I hope you are all being sensible about THE PETROL SHORTAGE!!

Featured Replies

I drove into Bath this morning it took about 12 minutes.

Coming home roads were blocked by cars queueing for

fuel out into the main roads! solis gridlock cars driving

on pavements and the wrong side of the roads to get

past queues.

What **** told them there was a fuel shortage, the BBC?

  • You can prove that, not only did Zoe charge from renewables, but that said use of them did not result in someone else using fossils to heat and/or light their home, or cook, or make something?

There is no shortage of fuel! I had to get fuel this morning. Couldn't get near local Tesco's due to queueing, both for fuel and access to the shop, but I did get fuel at our local station which includes a conveniemnce store. So the issue there is that people queue for fuel, then when you get to the second pump behind another car you have to wait for ages due to the driver in front doing their shopping and getting Costa coffee.

Grant Shaaps who drives a TESLA & Boris that gets driven or drives friends old cars are not being sensible.

It is Friday and end of the month pay time for many going places this weekend.

So New HGV drivers will not be New Road Fuel Tankers any time soon.

So this rubbish about more simple tests getting done sooner is a nonsense while people can not even get licenses renewed who are qualified already.

Or there are not enough trainers or drivers to buddy up with to get experience.

Sure the Military can aid training and experience and even driving, but they are getting leave to be ready for Cop 26 in less than 40 days to protect the area outside that which is becoming United Nations Land in Glasgow.

There is a Road Fuel Tanker Delivery Driver Shortage and saying do not panic buy has people panic buying, and queues have people joining them.

.......................................

As it is 'if' E10 is giving lower MPG / Fuel Efficiency people need fuel more often and tankers need to do more driving to deliver more fuel than pre September.

That is if people drive the same as they did when they used E5.

Hopefully those queuing at filling stations are using Stop/Start.

.......................................................................................

Grant Shapps / aka Michael Green is not a pleb.

Its the same old basic - Stupid people being stupid.  It certainly doesn't help that the media a pumping out shock headlines.  From what I gather, there is only a very few stations that have not had their delivery, no shortage, no panic buying required, but people being people...

It’s crazy, no doubt someone somewhere has posted on social media that petrol/ diesel  is going to run out, next thing every fuel station queued out this morning, our local Tescos certainly was.

Next thing the fuel station tanks will be empty, and with the driver shortages will take i while to get refilled.

Why can’t people just go about there business as usual and realise that it’s panic buying that’s a big part of the problems we’re having.

Well, Grant Shapps actually. Specifically GS appearing on the BBC and denying that there is a fuel shortage (where the fuel needs to be) "because it only takes 10 week to get an LGV test (well, he actually said "HGV" but that's wrong). I can think of 3 specific issues with this:-

  1. You don't just need an LGV licence to drive fuel tankers, you need a trailer licence as well, which is a second test.
  2. You need a Driver CPC, and that applies to anything over 7.5T GVW, not just tankers and/or trailers, which is another week.
  3. You need a Petrol Regulations certificate to drive fuel tankers. You need an LGV licence to even do your PetRegs course.

Now, unless you can get in the queues for all of these in consecutive weeks, I make that more like 22 weeks. And yes, I would have expected the Minister for Transport to know this before being interviewed about "the driver shortage". Actually, I would also have expected a journalist who was interviewing him to know this.

Yeah but true facts don't make for sensationalist headlines do they???

Well I suppose, but failing to know them causes sensationalist headlines, and makes both interviewer and interviewee look like incompetent Rossets (anagram) in the eyes of viewers who do!

I don't think the difference in mpg, if there is a difference, is significant enough to cause extra visits to a petrol station.

Well if it was 1.5% as some are saying, as RAC / AA sites even mention, then yes that would require buying 1.5% more fuel,

or pumping up your tyres, slowing down a bit, or driving less.

Even putting the car on a diet and the passengers.

Humans are generally not sensible about anything, so expect short-term chaos.

Fortunately, people don't have much storage for petrol other than their fuel tanks, so it should fizzle out rather quickly.

I question the format of the thread title if being sensible is what the OP really wants, even if intended to be ironic.

I don't think carnal is the word you were looking for, but the general thrust is in the right direction.

But everyone knows toilet paper stops covid, it’s been on Facebook  :)

Absolute prats queueing.  I'd read somewhere it was about six BP stations and a few Esso stations down south that were affected...   That's all but eejits will be eejits...

There are those that needed their Salary / Benefits paid and have their Airbnb, Glamping, Festival, Protest, Holiday. work plans already and need fuel.

Very soon Grant Shapps or another Minister will make their announcement on the supply of fuel to Emergency Workers / Vehicles, Prescribed, Essential /Priority Workers getting fuel.

The Stations used for supplying their fuel will need to hold on to stock.

Boris might as well call off his trip to the country retreat this weekend.

eg,

Contingency plan for Fuel Shortages, but there is no fuel shortage, just panic buying.

Shy - remember him!

He's probably still using his initial stockpile.

I dont think this news has got to the West Midlands lol, yet to experience overly long queues at any of the local pettys by me.

Thankfully however, 95% of people will be putting the cheapo stuff in anyway, no need to worry about the higher octane stuff being unavailable...

I am a semi retired Fleet Driver Trainer, working 3 days a week now. But I used to drive fuel tankers for a living all through the 80s. I handed in my LGV licence when I reached 65years old, due to the rules stating I need to get a full medical every 12months. As though when you get to 65  they think we are all frail and incapable and need £100 medicals every year. Anyway, it certainly is tempting to get the licence back, do all those courses again and get on the road fuel delivering once more with the wages they are now earning. Thought about it for 5 seconds and then said to myself, far too much trouble I will stay as I am thanks. By the way, I did fill up early this morning, but I was down to a quarter of a tank at the time.

Although ethanol may be 33% enery in ethanol, if you do the sums, the extra 5% ethano will give a reduction of about 1.6% to the energy value of the fuel. If a car does 50 mpg on E5, that translates into a drop of ~0.8 mpg. Probably a bit simplistic though.

@Routemaster1461

Do not take me seriously.

In the threads where people are saying they are noticing a change i will be posting that i did at the weekend as well.

My 10 year old Suzuki 1.6 N/A is loving more ethanol in the E10 95 ron just like my 1.4 TSI Twinchargers did with 99/ + Super Unleaded when there was any, bring it on.

I want Greenergy to deliver E5 Tesco Momentum 99 or Esso Synergy 99 they distribute with the up to 5% ethanol.

As it is most often it has where i buy it.

Well, there wasn't.

There probably is now that everyone has decided they needed to buy fuel today 🤪

Had a bit of a chuckle while I was in town this morning.  Lots of vehicles queuing at the Shell station, with at one set/lane of pumps, the first car had paid and gone, but the 4x4 behind was still filling up.  So the driver of a German car, with 3 points on his star if not on his licence, dives in from the road via the ‘out’ lane, jumping the queue, and starts filling up at the vacant pump.

He was maybe showing initiative, but then he takes ages to fill, and holds everyone else up, then has to negotiate reversing out onto the road, into all the traffic that is either queuing, or trying to get past.

Senior Ministers are meeting this afternoon about no fuel shortages, from Cabinet Office, the Transport and Environment department heads etc.

They might have to discuss was BP at it with a little ploy that CF Industries pulled that ended up with the Government gifting millions for them to fire up the Ammonia Plant, and then being able to bring in the product that was supposedly in short supply from the USA.

The Senior Ministers and Department heads drivers were told to keep the engine ticking over while waiting as the UK had a C02 shortage or were kidded into thinking there could be so that the price could rise.

GOOD NEWS.

There are extremely good prices offered on going out of date Meal Deals so Sandwiches, Crisps & Softdrinks,   also Yorkies.

Sadly there is a Water shortage currently since it has been such a scorcher of a year due to Climate Change.
