I hope you are all being sensible about THE PETROL SHORTAGE!!

remember the toilet paper rush during 1st round of covid....people just react, with a carnal sense of self preservation

Saw an elderly person today (who lives on her own) trundling her shopper down the pavement with a 24 pack of toilet rolls perched on top - so toilet paper panic buying has already started.

BP spokesperson said yesterday they will be delivering 80% of the normal fuel to 90% of their outlets, so that's still 72% of their normal - not really a shortage (certainly not on the same scale as the 2000 tanker drivers strike).

  • You can prove that, not only did Zoe charge from renewables, but that said use of them did not result in someone else using fossils to heat and/or light their home, or cook, or make something?

  • EV smuggists should learn to focus their arguments on urban air quality, where they do have 'clear' advantages.

I'm so sensible I filled up last week. :D

Same here. Mine just shifted off of the full tank mark so I should be all good until this all blows over. :)

Had to fill the Octavia up yesterday morning ready for my week ofnight shifts as was below quarter of a tank. The owner of a Mazda 6 in front of me at pumps put in no more than a tenner of E10 having queued for about 10 minutes. I put in 43 litres of diesel. We seem to lurching from one crisis to the next.

Idiots will be idiots

Well, some people aren't being sensible...

not wooried about the fuel shortage either given his and his wife's cars are the most economic in the world and barely sniff fuel on his way to work.. hell gave to worry about the fuel "going off" in the tanks :D

Well the little orange low fuel light came on in the swift today with just 20 miles left in the tank.

Left it till his evening and nipped out to the local petrol station and filled up no problem, although apparently the panic buying has affected the big Tescos and Sainsburys down the road...

Daughter is happy though as it means I can slap the 'L' plates on and take her out for a driving session tomorrow

I don't know if it's happening in other stations, but my local Shell was apparently showing these notices today.

I cannot see these attached images for some reason.

There is (was?) apparently about a billion litres of space in cars fuel tanks, wonder how much there is in vans, trucks etc even motorcycles.

I will try and get some diesel tonight when the super market closes but their fuel station stays open.

Will charge the Zoe tonight at home on the cheap electricity and may have to use it more than I anticipated if fuel shortages continue.

Excise Tax on a billion litres would be £580 million pounds plus the VAT of around £225 million.  Be interesting to see if the refineries step up to replace their on hand stock.

Unreal.

Muppets that not only need moved to let tankers in but then have not the sense to keep clear to let the tankers out or those going about their business like panic shopping for their meal replacement drinks, instant potatoes &  UHT milk.

EDIT, @mac11irlthat is my shopping by the way.

Do not panic Captain Mannering,

Grant Shapps will be telling the Billionaire owners to fess up the readies or do their worst and GTF.  The UK has taken back control.

The UK Government  will pay with Tax / Duty / Revenue payers money to an overseas provider or even INEOS Billions to take up the slack.

When a BP former Executive is taken on you can expect a failure maybe, as they will have been working next to the morons that can not arrange delivery of their products properly.

Run and supply filling stations with your own product and the important thing is to have the means of doing it, your own or contracted vehicles and drivers paid the proper wages and then the product priced so that you are making a profit, so charging the market price.

But the government allows a free market where Super Market owners can afford to sell cheap and keep the public happy, for a while anyway.

Once the price of food and goods has to rise the castle built on sand is not really such a smart idea.

After a fruitless search last night for diesel and 5 Worcester garages good to see local Tesco garage open and whilst busy I managed to get £48 in the diesel Fabia so that should be good for 600 miles driving.

Daughters coming back from London last night had to fuel up at Chiverly motorway service who were rationing to £45, thankfully that is not far short of a 3/4 a tankful in a Fabia and she could drop off one daughter in Bristol and return to London to start at 0600.  Mad times.  Some were cheating taking £45 at one pump whilst the passenger filled to 20 litre Jerry cans at the other pump and paid for them separately.

Zoe did Worcester to Bristol and back with no carbon molecules being harmed in the process.

Our local shell ran out last week, Filled up both mine and my wife's car when they were back in stock after speaking with the owner and finding out about the delivery delays.

Mine was under a quarter and wife's was on red and beeping angrily at her. Anyway.... we're good for another 2 - 3 weeks.

Mum's car was written off with a full tank of fuel, new car had none so much fun was had trying to siphon. End result was a shorted relay and a pipe out the fuel filter to empty out 3/4 of the tank into her new car.

Was away in Cornwall. No internet really.

drove to local Sainsbury’s to drop off recycling found a queue at the wadi round the block. Penzance.

popped 13l of unleaded in at the next stop for insurance.

drove 90miles to another stop, with a queue. Decided to drive around the queue, reversed in and filled up.

another stint saw us up in the midlands. Closed forecourt but shop open. Popped in had a dry sandwich and asked if it was ok to fill up. Apart from no diesel, we filled the tank.

drove the rest of the way back on that fill.

I have to say that, there were some quite confused faces seeing my mates van filling it’s tank quite happily. Us with a slight grin.

teo sided really, wed of been more than happy to be stranded in Cornwall till this all passed.

as it was we had no excuse and no problem getting fuel.

something to be said for a LPG conversion after all then. All the way to and back from Lincoln to Cornwall on gas :) and it’s only 79p a litre. And no queues at the pump.

that said, it does look and feel like panic.

the last one was the same. Eventually it will settle. I just feel sorry for the sensible non panic users who will suffer.

still feel a key workers scheme should be set up to avoid this. Imagine, sorry your op is cancelled, seemed someone brimmed there car this am and the nurse behind could not come in… and that someone was you.

EV smuggists should learn to focus their arguments on urban air quality, where they do have 'clear' advantages.

I had to try several stations on Friday night to get diesel, most still had petrol available.

The bloke in front of me managed to squeeze a whole £13 in his tank one click a time, then popped another 20L in a fuel can..... the guy works in the local Halfords and lives about 4 miles away.. so I guess he did a big ass journey Sunday!

Some of the EV,s which are big heavy cars are there taking up too much road space with just a driver while the Government / tax payer / public give them tax breaks.   Those days are limited though.  So saving on emissions while the electricity is from renewables, available pretty cheap still, but not where the increases price of gas had Coal fired power stations on again producing electricity and Gas Powered generation like Peterhead is the 2nd highest polluter after Grangemouth Refinery which burns oil and gas to produce electricity to produce petrochemicals including Road fuels and others for Marine and Aircraft.   As there are nice new EV charging hubs being built so should there be nice Truck Stops nationwide to provide the sort of conditions drivers deserve are fair prices.    Cold and wet today and my home heating is off. So going to have a drive in my EV. Heating on, heated seat.  Cruise past filling station Queues, then go charge later for free, or at tax payers expense.  Hopefully the wind farms are generating in Scotland and the grid needs balancing.

Would it help if people stood on their doorsteps on Thursdays at 8pm and clapped for petrol?

Dacia are still going great guns with B-Fuel LPG/Petrol but it is not ease to know where to get LPG as it does not seem to be well advertised.

When the Clio comes up for renewal then a Bi-Fuel Sandero or other Dacia will be top of the list.

Well I am with Octopus Energy which is supposed to be drawn from 100% renewable.

As to carbon molecules coming from brakes, tyres and even the carbon brushes on the electric motor, yes there could be a few.  I hard use brakes any more as I you regenerative "B" mode braking and am more concerned about the D head in the ICE behind me getting too close as he accelerates and then destroys all hist kenetic energy in his brake discs heating up as lost thermal energy.  Hopefully Renault, and the other EV manufacturers have got it right and our EV brake lights are coming on or even flashing as we harvest kinetic energy and put it back in the battery pack as does an F1 car.  I have seen the little Zoe putting up to 30 kW back in to battery on some occasions.

Still need my diesel and petrol cars and motorbike as back up, only charging the Zoe at 2 kWs until Friday when I get my wall charger.  Thanks to the Con government for the £350 bung as part of the OLEC grant for the wall charger making a total of £2,850 for them to change to electricity, wish I had done it in spring rather than autumn.

Nice to use the smart phone occasionally to check its charge status so I can holt the charging so I can cut it off to get the 4.5 hours of nearly free electricity on the night rate.

I hear crude has gone up 20% in the last 5 weeks so we should expect both more expensive fuel as well as shortages.  Government has the ability to tweak the excise duty to level up the level of tax as their is VAT on the cost of the oil and on the excise duty so they have the power to stop it going to over £1.40/£1.50 a litre.

I hope I haven't misunderstood . Whoever think they arestake charging their car, heating or lighting their homes because the get their electricity from a green provider is mistaken. The green energy company may purchase their energy from a third pary who uses solar/wind power but once it is put into the grid with all of the other sources, what comes out at the user end is just electricity. We are all just as green as everyone else. If you look at some of the power ads on TV you woill see that they will frequently have disclaimers stating that the power comes from the grid, probably because their earlier adverts were misleading consumers thinking that they were claiming something that was patently impossible.
