Infotainment System Restarting endlessly

Featured Replies

it's reassuring and at the same time scary to see all your feedback which reflects my daily driving experience, I drive in France (62). I went from 1810 to 1896 in December 2022 (with change of the 5F module). that was awesome! more speed of fluidity! I sometimes but rarely lost full sound but it came back 5 minutes after turning off the ignition of the car. So everything was fine until the OTA update of April since this OTA update I have the right to turn off the screen within 2 minutes of switching on the ignition sometimes after just 30 seconds without touching anything. I tried without usb key without bluetooth without E-sim always the same result... and since the last OTA of a few days ago it's sometimes several times on the same day after turning off and starting the car again then that before this last OTA it only happened the first time I turned on the car, even if I stopped shopping for 1h 2H or 5 min it didn't do it anymore for about 24h. But my question is " aren't all these reboots harmful for the 5F infotainment control module?"

  • I had so many spontaneous reboots this week with even 4 occurring on the same day that the infotainment system was practically unusable. That’s why I decided to go ahead and install 1941 yesterday.

Reboots don't cause any harm to the module - the only harm done is to the owners patience and Skoda's reputation.

Interesting addition @SkOmk4 seems they don't mind mixing SK with VW.

Which means in at least theory it could upgrade to 1941, though I wouldn't recommend trying this upgrade.

What have they done 😧

These are what I got from the system 20230608_121618.thumb.jpg.24759d1f597b957b258f97c401660472.jpg20230608_121445.thumb.jpg.37809d6ef5055216ca002d3dd13b3692.jpg20230608_121607.thumb.jpg.f08b6434d990c2b95913c25684c1f0c7.jpg

So who wants to try loading VW version 1941 🤪

Seems weird that this has happened, the change from SK in the software train to VW.

Short Update from my side:
1. I'm running the same VW train as  @SkOmk4 mentioned above!

2. With the master key (associated with the Primary User), a reboot just kicked in last night on a very very short trip when I've switch parking places with my neighbour.

3. Today, I've had an ideea to use the spare key  (associated with the Guest User) on a short trips for 10mins, each. No reboots, but I've been able to use the Infotainment only on the way back, because on the first trip the MIB3 got stuck in "Loading settings..."/"Please be patient..." 🙃

4. I'm planning to use the spare key for the next days.

From what I can read in the German forum, the guys found 2 temporary solutions: Factory reset OR Fuse removed for a couple of hours.

Cheers

This weekend I'll try the "no wireless" solution (if I'll remember to switch off BT&wifi when approaching the car). - the same test that @Combi_NX5 started...
I'm just curious if the reboots will "magically" disappear.

Well, yes, it works!

Yesterday I tried the WIFI connection and of course it restarted soon after the start of the trip.

Driving to work this morning, no restarts. 💁‍♂️

I suspect that the restart is more caused by the WIFI connection.

BT has been turned on for me even in a wired connection.

Yes, try to turn off WIFI on the car side, for example, if WIFI and BT are turned off on my phone, it pairs with multimedia and automatically turns on BT and WIFI on the phone side. So it is better to disable WIFI on the car side.

Thx @Combi_NX5 for this very useful information.

One more request if it's possible to share with us: How have you turned off WiFi on the car side? Using OBD11 dongle OR from the car menu (can you give some instructions for this?)?

Cheers

Latest update: I've just discussed with a guy from my country a couple of hours ago, his infotainment has restarted 4 times in a row, then for the rest of his journey the screen remains completely black 😞
Finger crossed our units will not end up in the same situation!!!.

Later EDIT on my above post:

I've just disabled the WiFi on the car Menu. @Combi_NX5, can you please confirm if you toggled off the same settings?Thx

Lately I have noticed that the system restarts when I try to pull out of a parking space when the parking sensors are active.

After the last update (a week ago) this happens more often. Maybe I should start bothering the service center, because it is annoying that the parking sensors cannot be used when you leave the parking space, because the system restarts.

So, mines been with the local Skoda dealer all day - they've allegedly been running diagnostics with the help of Skoda Technical Support. I was checking mySkoda thoughout the day and it's been unlocked on and off, so I don't doubt it. Unfortunately I didn't get to speak to the technicians only the service front of house staff.

Apparently Skoda TS believe the problem is to do with a fan "behind" the MIB3 (as nice as the front of house staff are... stuff gets lost in translation) - it seems odd there would be a seperate one behind it, and I can't see one in the unit itself (looking at pictures online). Maybe something is overheating under certain conditions, *shrug*.

They didn't get the authorisation to go ahead in time to actually do the work today - so they are going to come collect it for a couple of days and leave me with something. We'll see afterwards - the saga continues.

Here’s mine. Also running VW software. I guess it knows it’s in Skoda and only applies Skoda’s skin when it’s running.

Afternoon.

I may have solved my reboot problem, not exactly sure how, but having read about WiFi and Bluetooth off here, it is definitely something to do with the WiFi.

My AA stopped coming up on screen last week. And for the life of me I couldn't get it to work. So regular reboots phone and car, I decided to play with the settings.

Turning WiFi (hotspot) off on the car and then complete deletion of Skoda off phone and rebooted Info screen.

Started all back up and it prompted me for bt/WiFi added both and it asked me to turn car WiFi on, which I duly did. Car worked perfectly and has not reset once in 9 days now.

Problem i now have is I get this message on my screen even after I clear it, it won't go away.

Everything works fine AA Spotify etc.

So not sure if it's another glitch, which I am more than happy to live with. Or a solve/workaround.

Indeed. Yesterday, I went to the settings menu and the moment I touched the WiFi menu, it registered the touch, the WiFi bar turned green and the whole system froze then rebooted.

The test continues today but there is a problem, unfortunately the reboot also happens with WIFI off and AA connected to USB with wire.

Another observation, when AA is connected to WIFI, WAZE will freeze very often. A message to EXIT or WAIT appears in the waze window. Spotify continues to work without problems.

I will check if there is an AA update for the phone.

Tomorrow I will try to delete the phone from the multimedia memory and connect it again. And test test test 💁🏻‍♂️

That's unfortunate. I thought with a cable it had gone away completely. 😞

So frustrating, Skoda don't care or are unwilling to acknowledge the existence of this. It can't just be a random few cars.

I only have 2 gremlins left. This one and I have an issue with the locking and unlocking and starting of the car, random won't unlock, won't lock, won't start, locks car with keys inside 😂😂

Technology........ 😂😂😂😂

I am at the point of getting rid, love the car when it works, but you just cannot rely on it. 😞

Any suggestions on what to get next 😂

I have a couple of niggles remaining too. Love the car; arguably the best I’ve had in 40+ years of motoring, yet also arguably the worst! I find these repeated reboots are surprisingly frustrating!

I keep toying with the idea getting rid too. I’ve hung on since March ‘21 with mine. Been at the [very good] dealers at Škoda’s behest for at least 6 months over that time. When is enough, enough? Is the question I keep asking myself.

I can’t work out what to get instead either! Should be the subject of another thread I guess rather than derail this one.

I think you should try. 😆

WOW that's something!😲

I reconnected the phone to multimedia and within two trips no reboot. (I deleted all devices from the list)

I have looked this week.

My list Included

BMW M135i - amazing but uncomfortable accelerator and seating.

Alpha Giulia veloce - very quick and comfortable but lacked big time on the Interior.

Golf R and Club sport. - all very good. Clubsport felt better, bit I am afraid of the horror stories about car jacking in these cars.

Merc c class estate 330e and 300de - both capable cars, but something missing.

All.of the above I am putting 10k towards.

And if I am honest don't offer anything significant over what I have.

I am totally at a loss as what to do. A car shouldnt be this temperamental. It really is a love hate relationship. 😂

Fingers crossed it works for you. Day 10 for me 😂 we shouldnt be having these conversations about a cars WiFi should we....

It's more than unacceptable 😞

Goes from bad to worse.

Start stop failure last week which hasn't resolved. Maybe connected but car has trouble starting now and takes a couple of attempts before it starts. Car is booked in for this next month along with the infotainment rebooting that wasn't fixed despite Skoda telling me it was last time the car was in and they did a 'Software update'.

Trim throughout car falling off or detaching. 3rd piece happened this week.

Yesterday, car went into Limp Mode with 'Error: Drive System - Please visit workshop' whilst driving home from shopping.

Drove it at 10mph for last mile of that journey home.

Drive it today and limp mode gone and no drive system error.

I'm driving to France next month and can't trust this car to make it whatsoever.

This car throws up so many errors that disappear after a restart that I never know which one is real.

I just want these issues fixed or I want rid. Only had the car for 8 months but it's had various faults and issues that entire time.
