  2. I carried out several online searches about this, relating to Skoda Fabia Mk4s and to the equivalent-age VW Polos, but the results were inconclusive with it being suggested that a pad-wear warning system might not be fitted to lower-spec or lower-powered cars, but could be fitted to higher-spec or more powerful models. My own Fabia Mk4 was built in late-2023 and UK-registered in April 2024. It's an SE L model, has the 999cc 3-cylinder TSI motor with a maximum power-output of 81kW/110PS/108bhp and has a DSG transmission. Braking is the UK-specification front discs and rear drums system used on Mk4 models that have the 999cc motor. I put my car on full right lock and drove the right front wheel up on to a 3-inch wooden block. Lying on my back, I was then able to get my head fully behind the front wheel, shine a powerful torch on to the brake disc and caliper and also feel around the caliper and the area near to it. There was no sensor-cabling and, consequently, no means to warn (via a dashboard warning light) if the brake-pad thickness seriously reduced. Just in case, I then did the same for the left front wheel and there was no sensor-cabling there either. As my (fairly powerful, fairly high-spec) Fabia Mk4 with 999cc motor does not have front-brake sensor cabling and @Breezy_Pete has said that his wiring diagram for a Mk4 does not mention a pad-wear sender, it now seems that (despite the brake pads-related references in the Fabia Mk4 Owner's Manuals) at least Fabia Mk4s with the disc/drum braking system probably do not have a worn brake-pads warning system that would cause a dashboard light to illuminate. I don't think Lar has ever said which motor his Mk4 has, so if it has the 1.5litre 4-cylinder power-plant and disc/disc braking system, it's possible it might have a worn-brake-pads warning system. Not too difficult check as suggested earlier, or a Skoda dealership should be able to advise.

  5. The advantage of this would be that, for instance, you could virtually mount the user partition in Linux and extract the `system.ifs` file from it. This means you could theoretically patch the system directly; no discrepancy would be detected, and the system would boot up and function perfectly.
  6. Even the component protection is implemented quite effectively. It is linked to the CPU Key ID, the eMMC Key ID, and the EEPROM, and is further encrypted using a cryptographic key stored on the VW server. If you were to clone the data via the EEPROM, the system would immediately detect that the cryptographic signature is invalid because the new unit—where the EEPROM data was loaded—has different Key IDs for the CPU and eMMC. In other words, the software instantly recognizes the tampering. I spent hours, days, and weeks trying to bypass this on the MIB2; I succeeded, but the problem is that the solution isn't firmware-stable—a single update wipes everything out. Plus, you need the dump from the unit that was officially paired with the vehicle. The effort involved just isn't worth it for the MIB2. With the MIB3, I am currently in the process of creating a full system backup—meaning the eMMC, including Boot 1, Boot 2, User, and Config partitions. The EEPROM part is simple enough, but the eMMC in the Preh MIB3 unit has 64GB of flash storage. Since I don't use a "chip-off" method, performing a 1-bit ISP backup takes anywhere from 5 to 24 hours, depending on the clock frequency and the bench setup.

  9. Every control unit has a unique identifier known as the VCRN. At the factory, this is paired with the EEPROM, the eMMC Key ID, the CPU Key ID, and the VIN. As soon as the unit is installed in a different vehicle, the software detects a discrepancy and—as shown in your picture—marks all FECs as "temporarily rejected." When you then perform the function activation, the FECs that were valid from the factory (or officially purchased later) are activated; essentially, the routine performs a fresh reconciliation and re-signs the eMMC and EEPROM. In principle, the patch does the same thing as the MIB2 Toolbox—it bypasses the verification check—but with MIB3, the trade-off is that online services no longer work; unlike the MIB2, the software immediately detects the discrepancy in the EEPROM and switches to a "tamper mode." The FeCs appear as rejected in the software, yet they still function despite the tampering.
  10. Tres bien. Merci beaucoup Lee. Love Bloomberg and like to monitor France 24 and many other non British outlets who many have English Channels as well as native. Longue vie et prosperite (trouble doing the accents on the e's)
  11. Once again, FECs cannot be transferred from the old unit to the new one. The FECs must be activated online via ODIS using a function activation procedure.
  12. All over French news outlets and some other European mainland ones. Apparently Macron asking for more releases of strategic reserves..... Please no panic buying as important community services rely on buying fuel, particularly diesel, from public fuel stations as not all having their own storage tanks like truck firms tend to have...... energynews.proFrench Government Rules Out Shortage Despite Fuel Price S...France's government rules out a fuel shortage despite record prices and rising outages at TotalEnergies stations.Minister Maud Bregeon says 90% of French filling stations remain supplied, as diesel prices near record highs and TotalEnergies faces higher shortage rates. France's junior minister for Energy, Maud Bregeon, said Tuesday, September 15, on France 2 that fuel supply remained broadly under control nationwide, despite a surge in pump prices. According to her, 90% of filling stations reported no supply difficulty, while 10% signaled the absence of at least one fuel. A strained network still largely supplied. The government's availability tracking website recorded 13% of filling stations experiencing shortages on Monday, September 14, up from 8% on September 12. This tracking covers diesel or gasoline outages declared by station operators, excluding stations temporarily closed for other reasons. TotalEnergies-branded stations appear particularly exposed: based on data available Tuesday, 86% of them were out of at least one fuel, a situation attributed to the price cap applied by the group. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/aramco-halts-october-crude-deliveries-some-european-refiners-after-pipeline-2026-09-18/ "Saudi Arabia earlier informed European customers that some crude cargoes would be cancelled after drone attacks forced the shutdown of its East-West pipeline, damaging three pumping stations and disrupting oil loadings at the Red Sea port of Yanbu. The disruption has prompted customers including Poland's ‌Orlen (PKN.WA), opens new tab to seek alternative crude supplies, with traders saying the refiner bought North Sea grades to replace disrupted Saudi imports."
  13. Something has definitely happened in the last couple of days, apart from my above mention of the warning bongs/screen, all my personal settings have been reset, the two I noticed this a.m., the radio doesn't shut off when reversing and the rear wipe now does its thing every minute or so when the front ones are on - I'll have to go through the settings when I get a spare half hour.....?
  14. Talking with a friend of mine, who know coding quite well, we realized mechanic just replaced the unit a screen without doing the replacement procedure first! That’s why the licenses/FEXs were NOT transferred from old unit to the new one
  15. Per Bloomberg which is a pretty main news channel... https://archive.ph/vMUqP French TV. If it's worked then the subs should be in English. If not you can do it yourself in the settings. https://archive.ph/QUqT4
  16. No mention of this on any of the main news channels, or at least not that I can find. If that happens, then it just shows the folly of the UK energy strategy: no more drilling in the North Sea, refiners closing/closed down, and reduced stocks of both oil and gas. What for? So that the politicians can stick their chests out and brag to their counterparts that the UK has more to reduce emissions than anyone else. Have we? In reality, haven't we just shipped all of our emissions overseas and made theirs worse as a result of that mentality? UK manufacturing moved overseas, and jobs were lost, sitting on vast fields of oil and gas that we can't touch because we lacked the forward critical thinking required to think it through before committing to such a dangerous path as Net Zero. This is authority-led decisions stacked up against each other to further compound the situation. Wondering what the hell I am talking about? Just subscribe to the YouTube channel "Fine Print", and you'll find the answers to how the UK has reached such a low point in its long and rich history.

  20. European fuel stations running out of fuel as over 10% of them in France run out. Also Saudi, worlds larfest exporter of crude, has told Europe it will get no crude deliveries in October ! Should boost EV new and old sales which are already at record levels and cars moving off car lots faster than ice cars.

  23. Car is 2016 Octy vRS diesel CUNA code engine, 150,000 miles. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to find out if the ECU has been chipped? Bought the car as the fourth owner and it came with 2cm wide wheel spacers all round which indicates that at least one of the past owners "pressed on" somewhat. In my ownership it's had the spacers removed (!!!), new DPF, new Bosch pressure & EGT sensors and repairs to a previously bodged turbo change; all done by a specialist VAG workshop I have been with for over 30 years with various Audi, Skoda and SEAT cars. Since the DPF and EGT sensor change, it persistently throws error code P2084 usually after a bit of gentle acceleration, which the workshop says is nothing to worry about. There is no loss of performance and it clears with a basic code reader. The workshop believe it to have been chipped at some stage which is why it keeps throwing the code; is this feasible and is there any easy way to check?

  25. The difficulty with the online searches is the number of owners who report DSG problems is greater than I’m on those who have no problems. Clutch packs can wear same as a traditional manual so no different really except perhaps in cost. Mechatronic unit is the other failure item but never really find out why they fail. I saw a comment recently that the DSG failure rate DSG with the 1.5 TSI engine is the best combination. There is a dry clutch DSG 2013 VW pool car at work, it’s just had a mechatronic unit replaced at 75k miles, cost £1800, it’s driven by many people with varying levels of skill and mechanical sympathy, so I’m not surprised. We’ve got a dry clutch 2015 Fabia no issues with the DSG, I had a wet clutch DSG 2013 VW no issues with in 108,000 miles and I towed a twin axle car trailer with it as well. This might be of interest https://www.team-bhp.com/news/understanding-vw-skoda-dsg-dq200-failures-detail?amp
  26. Your battery is an 096 EFB 70 Ah. Any reputable brand meeting this spec will be OK. If you change battery spec (to AGM or a different Ah capacity) then it MUST be coded. I have used batteries from VARTA an YUASA, supplied by TAYNA in the UK. It WILL WORK if fitted without coding but as PetrolDave said it SHOULD be coded in order to ensure correct operation of charging by the cars Battery Management System. I cannot say whether this is the only problem, but if there are other problems they cannot be dealt with until the battery is performing properly. If all is well when new battery is fitted you will probably get all sorts of alarm warnings and fault codes but these should clear themselves in just a few minutes when the car is started and driven.
  27. After previous good experience with an Aygo I'm switching to Toyota after reading of (and helping tackle) the numerous software problems on Skoda's newer than my 2016 Octavia 3. VAG software outsourcing has been IMHO an unmitigated disaster which they have simply taken far too long to solve after making owners into effectively beta (or even alpha) testers - Skoda is a victim of that strategy.
  28. If it is the original battery then 9 years life on a car with start/stop is pretty amazing. You SHOULD code a new battery so the Battery Management System knows straight away the capacity and can assume it's fully charged.

  31. Hi, Buying a new 27 plate Skoda Karoq 1.5 with DSG gearbox. Interested to know what mileage you have on your Karoq with the 1.5 DSG and any issues you have encountered. Online searches seem to imply they blow up at 30k or go on for ever. Interested in real world driving. I do a 50/50 mix of country urban and motorway. Thank you.
  32. I've probably said this before but Skoda have effectively been screwed over in recent years by VW Group taking thier software tech in-house and making a complete hash of it and by forcing their dealers 'upmarket' into fancy glass showrooms. They were better when neither were in place. I'd consider another Skoda in a few years when they've proved they've sorted software issues out but at present I'm happy with our 2018 Kodiaq and 2017 Citigo. If they don't get things sorted I'll be back looking at bigger Dacias or Kia / Hyundai or similar. Even a Chinese brand like Jaecoo might be on the list...
  33. Check there is a cable from car to pads. If its there there should be a wear indicator built in to pads and be connected. On my Octavia it doesnt have one but some did so you can get pads with or without indicator. If the pads fitted dont have the indicator built in and theres a cable there for it but not connected the system wont work. From memory when pads wear it makes contact with disk and turns light on. 35. Sorry you’ve got the same problem as us. We’ve had two steering racks fitted which each time give a brief interlude from noise. I was thinking it was shock absorber but maybe not what with your experience. My car to go back to garage next week for More investigations. Let’s keep this thread active to pull resources/info and maybe eventually combined action against Skoda!!! Good luck
  36. Personally, I would update to 0330 and then apply the patch; that way, you have 332 as a backup.
