the truth about electric cars
I absolutely fail to fathom just how so many people get so excited and crow about how registrations are continually on the increase when all that means is that more cars than before have been registered with the DVLA and have been given taxed status. How many times does it need to be explained that it does not mean actually sold to new owners as everyday drivers, unlike your Renault 5. Many of those cars are "registered", as they are counted by the DVLA (in other words, the UK government) as another car towards their annual target and save the motor trade from the punitive £15k fine for each car that is below their annually increasing targets. This figure is just going to continue to grow year on year until these targets are scrapped and the sales left to market forces, at which time the market will show the true sales of each type of car.

Hello... soon to be a Yeti owner
Hi All I'll be picking up a 2014 Yeti 2ltr diesel next week, current owner MOTd the car today. Failed on what I'm guessing is front drop links, but they are sorting on Tuesday. The Yeti seems practical for my needs, family, space and the ability to tow our caravan. I've been around various forums for many years (Renault, Ford etc but never Skoda). I used to do all my own servicing, repairs etc but my will is reducing the older I get. Always found the forums to be a great source of info and help. Just hope over time I'm able to contribute something useful !

the truth about electric cars
Let's expect and hope their is something in thd budget in 27 days time. Current government wants UK household to get off fossil fuels usage in cars, homes, trucks etc and lots of financial incentives to do but needs more agents out there making it happen.

Lol at you and home balcony solar. Let's see how long or cold this winter gets. Tough on those with oil heating systems or bottled gas. Tough on those with really not enough to get by on while the haves are doing along very nicely.

All Season tyres - a new recommendation (225/50/17)
I have had 3 different crossclimates on different vehicles, originals then + and SUV on my Shogun. The SUV,s were ****e on snow and that was coming down from 285,s to 265,s. Different snows. Being a Location location location thing.

... The Cross Climates are good in the snow. I've had them on 5 cars. Will see how the Vredesteins are on my 4x4 Yeti.😀

the truth about electric cars
How i wonder when electricity generation from gas is down to about a third of the energy mix and falling rapidly. Even their role as peaker plants for the 1600 to 1900 peak is diminishing as more grid and home batteries are installed plus home / balcony solar. Add to that Hinkley and Sizewell the use of gas for main stream power generation in the uk has a short future. Like to see it held back for emergency use and ships.

Badge/Emblem placement
Hi everyone so pictured is the rear of my recently purchased mk2 call me stupid but are all of the emblem/badge placements correct as per the manufacturers spec? How do people normally go about upgrading moving them around as I’m going to try and pick up some of the newer style original badges and maybe spray them all black barring the insert of the front and rear badges which would be race blue. I don’t want to risk using those crappy cheap copies from eBay as I have a friend that said they lasted no more than a month on his car 😬

Brake pedal soft but brakes fine. Doesn't pump up, no fluid leak - air in system or master cylinder problem?
OK, that's handy to know. I suppose with the pressure bleeder, activating the bleeder for a few seconds is equivalent to a pedal press? I haven't finished watching the video yet. It is probably explained there. Yes. It is OK to drive as I've been driving it like this for a while now and I've had to brake fairly hard once or twice and it can do it. I think you've summed up my next steps. Try bleeding it properly instead of trying to dodge it and then see if the pedal still creeps down. Come to think of it I don't think we did that great a job keeping air out of the unions. We covered the pipes but I don't think we filled the ports at all before putting the pipes in. But yes, in any case, best to just do it properly and surely regardless of what has happened before. Thanks all for the advice. I will see if I can find any alternatives to registered VCDS lite that is able to do the electronic bleed, and if I can't, I will contact people from the map and see who is closest to me who is willing to help, when I'm back from my holiday next week. The HEVS, are very much still requiring Petrol or Diesel and many of the PHEV,s will be using petrol. The BEV,s might yet feel the affect of global gas prices.

Facelift steering wheel
I ordered my S2 in 2011 with the paddles. I like them, but I mostly use them while driving with a trailer or to improve engine braking during descends. So flappy paddles definitely were an option around 2011.

the truth about electric cars
Truly outstanding figures. Firstly good to see overall car regisrrations up over 12% ! Good sign for economy and moving forward. Full electric sales last month nearly one hundred thousand cars. Plug in hybrids nearly sixty thousand and 46k HEVs. Good to know an ever increasing stock of cars not at the mercy of foreign oil prices.

Advice on/Experience with engine replacement 2.0 TDi
Yes... Been there, done that, in the real capital. 2020 engine, searched the European parts dealers using my engine code. ( nothing here available at the time) . Picked up an exact engine with less than 1000km , everything was identical except one sensor on the dpf. Swapped the loom over before install. Went like clockwork. Did the timing belt while it was out too.

Brake pedal soft but brakes fine. Doesn't pump up, no fluid leak - air in system or master cylinder problem?
If its past its MOT then the brakes are working as they should or at least a level that past MOT so should be ok to drive. Maybe someone on here that has vcds etc that could give you a hand bleeding it. If it doesnt improve with a proper vcds bleed or similar then I might look at a new master cylinder. If the ABS unit is second hand it may well have air in it as there would be air in system when it was reconnected at unions and I assume if operated would suck it in. Reckon to rule out air in system a proper VCDS bleed etc is in order. Alasdair

On my old 2007 Roomster bleeding from the ABS ports didn't help. Been there, tried that. You need to do the ABS Bleed Procedure with a suitable OBD Scan Tool. An OBD scan tool that does that ABS bleed function, as you know VCDS does too. I did my 2007 Roomster with VCDS. I had to have all 4 wheels off as the procedure on that asks for rear bleed screws to be open too. My newer 2016 Yeti only asks for the fronts. I had a pressure bleeder hooked up as I did the VCDS procedure. The procedure runs asks for bleed nipples to be opened, runs the ABS Pump, asks for 10 pedal presses and repeats that a few times. At each step it waits for you to click to confirm you've done your bit. Finally saying Done. There are some videos on YouTube if you look.

Trav's 2021 Superb 280 L&K
Work done. Oil service and DSG service. Tried to change the front ARB but no go. Skoda have changed the bush clamps to sealed units with rivet nut so the H&R bushes can’t be clamped in. The OE unit comes as one - bar and bushes in clamps. H&R haven’t caught up with the design change. Top mounts changed and now all quiet. 4wa done and all the errors have disappeared. Car runs nice and smooth. Just needs a clean now!

Brake pedal soft but brakes fine. Doesn't pump up, no fluid leak - air in system or master cylinder problem?
We haven't yet. That is worth a try. My dad also suggested bleeding it from the ABS pump ports as that is the highest point in the system physically so is where bubbles should gravitate to. I don't know if that makes much difference. I suppose maybe that with a pressure bleed might help. Does a VCDS bleed use pressure from the pedal or does it use the return pump to push it through? We thought of doing the harsh braking on gravel thing (we did a bit of that to check the ABS worked) but I don't think we tried it as we thought it would all settle by the time we got it back home from the allotment (about 5 minutes) and jacked up with the wheels off to bleed it. It did pass it's MOT today thankfully, so the pedal can't be as bad as I thought, and I have some more time to figure this out properly. I am starting to think from this thread that maybe air is the problem, even if it doesn't obviously pump up. Does the engine being on or off make a difference? Surely the extra bits only come in circuit when the ABS is triggered? The ABS pump is a second hand unit so it may or may not have had air sealed in it when we got it. Of course we might have put air in it by activating it without being bled properly beforehand, I don't know.

Which winter wheels?
DOT manufacturing date is July 2026 for my order that has just been delivered. Week and year, shown to the right of the photo. Perfect. Pretty well fresh out of the box!

Which winter wheels?
Michelin Own ATS Euromaster & BlackCircles & various Tyre Brands. Online Ordering can be cheaper than at a ATS Euromaste Center, not always though. Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 is a good choice. But best get on sooner in your chosen size rather than later, so getting them while prices are as they are. Very likely to be increasing. I had Alpin 6,s on my Corsa electric but wrecked sidewalls on 2 on potholes on the A93. I put on Riken Snow tyres. A brand Michelin own. This winter CrossClimate 3 on my MG EV and BF Goodrich KM3 AT,s on my pickup. I get Michelin discounts. There are good BF Goodrich Snow Tyres for cars..EG g-Force Winter 2,s. Plenty winter or AS threads in thd tyre section. (I had TIGAR Snow tyres on my Volvo S60, another brand Michelin Own). Maxxis AP2,s on my Fabia vRS & Maxxis AP3,s on my MINI Cooper S ev replacing the Vredestein Quatrac Pro + that were hopeless on the snow.
