  1. Well, after the various delays our Karoq has finally arrived. It's an Edition 1.5 TSI in Quartz Grey and I have to say I have been impressed with it. My dear lady likes it too which is more important as it is her car. Not really sat down and gone through all the little menus and sub-menus yet, but generally speaking impressed with the equipment and quality of the car. Certainly different to drive than my TT and I found myself when I was allowed to have a go driving in a much more relaxed manner. The ACC is fantastic, I genuinely found that an absolute dream on the motorway over the weekend. Surprised with the level of pull from the engine. While not being dramatic, it does the job and definitely an improvement on the outgoing Yaris. Long way to go, but it's made a good first impression. Glad the hassle of the delivery problems is over and come just move on and enjoy the car.

  3. Witnesses who stayed with me until Emergency Services arrived were both aghast at the speed she was travelling. One, an off-duty PC said he was in the process of calling it in to the police before i was hit. So, prosecution , hopefully.

  7. 1,000 miles on and my Brooks Flyer is as comfortable as my 25 year old Brooks Conquest. I now have a new Brooks B17 on the way from Amazon for use on my Fat Bike where there is no need for springs. £57.75, so much cheapness. Happy with the new B17 in 'Honey', never had one in the Box with the spanner and proofide before, just in a polly bag. £57.46 and 4 days to delivered.

  9. Just to let you know about this, a member on here had a bad crash in his Superb last week and all airbags triggered and all. The SOS system automatically rang the control centre and my mate could only mutter 'ambulance' and they called it and had the GPS location from the system (No sat nav fitted in car). I was well impressed . Also a very loud siren went off and a voice blaring 'Impact, Impact'. His car is written off and he only has bruising and swelling. Brilliant cars.

  10. It's not the only thing looking less than pristine! I feel very lucky and if I take anything away from this, it's the fact that I will spec the next car from the safety options list first before spending the remainder on trim/sound system etc. The metallic paint and l.e.d package did not save my life.

  11. Maybe comes up with a google, a great place beside Dyce Airport (Aberdeen), drop the car off in the morning, have a day out in Aberdeen pick the car up at tea time with refurbished wheels. If they still do that. http://thewheelspecialist.co.uk Edinburgh, South Gyle Crescent. PS There was a top quality Wheel Refurbisher Ayr / Prestwick area. Drop off the wheels, price was dependent on how quick you needed them back.

  13. Spent the weekend away with the Scouts. Things I have learnt: 280 superbs will tow a trailer at any speed you want so you have to be careful not to go too fast. fuel economy with a slab front trailer is 19.8mpg which is pretty much half of the unladen average from last week (38.0mpg) Scout centres down mile-long dusty rough roads leave you with a (yet to be tackled) big cleaning job white was probably not my best decision (although this level of filth would be bad on any colour other than 'filth brown' I suspect)

  14. Just to bring this thread to a conclusion. Nokian responded to the claim and offered a £160 refund. Given the wear on the tyres and the clear issues with my rear alignment I thought this was fair. A big thank you to Tyre Spot in Newcastle who processed the claim for me (I didn't buy the tyres from them, but will certainly be buying my next set from them as a result). Just goes to show a little persistence can sometimes be worth it.

  15. I had a CitiGo Colour Edition from the garage while my Fabia was in for a service. I was very impressed with the new radio system- very easy to pair my phone, very clear display, and the phone holder worked great once I'd worked out how to adjust it properly! I didn't use the Skoda app, I just used Android Auto running on my phone. For such a 'cheap' system it was great. TBH, it's all you need in a car like the CitiGo. TBH, the car was great all round.

  23. In case you were wondering about the structural integrity of the Superb... On Sunday I was doing 75-80 ouside lane of a dual carriageway. Saw in my mirror a BMW closing at ridiculous speed before rear-ending me. The Superb was lifted by the impact, did 2 barrel-rolls and then an end-over-end roll into the trees. I was cut out of the car and taken to the trauma centre. Result; a couple of bkoken ribs and lung puncture. Medics and fire crew said they expected life-changing injuries from the forces and mechanism involved, but I am home with just pain-killers. One said, the car did a great job. Will be ordering a replacement L&K asap.

  24. Wow, so glad you came out of that 'relatively' unscathed, i've seen people end up with a lot worse from a lot less. I would agree with flying pig, very strong chance of a prosecution coming from this, and rightly so. Wishing you all the best in your recovery

  25. I'm with you on the torque converter gearbox. One of the reasons I bought a CR-V as they were one of the few petrol autos to use these gearboxes. I say "were" because even Honda appear to have moved away from them, meaning I will be keeping mine for some time. No doubt we will get the usual chorus of "they sap power", "they push up petrol consumption, etc. etc., however I couldn't give a t*ss about that. What I do like about them is they are extremely easy to use with no hidden peculiar characteristics, i.e. Put it into drive until destination reached, put it in park, having been around since the 30's, they are pretty much fault free if not abused and they are totally predictable in operation. Standing by for the flack.

  27. Or a black touch up pen. My mate’s got a £600 set of alloys on his micra, two colours on his alloy and scuffed his a beauty the other week, I told him to use a touch up pen, he was like I am away for a refurb. He is not finding many places in Edinburgh willing to refurb due to two different colours! Davy

  28. I low-sided off a bike in a damp, 60 mph curve, and as I was barrel-rolling back across oncoming traffic, I remember thinking, "Thank God for this helmet". I went out the next day and bought a full-face one. It's not the speed that kills, it's the sudden stop. It's also interesting how you can suddenly find God where there was only god before.

  29. Believe me - you do get 'perks' in Govt compared to the private sector - but that's for a different thread. ;-) However - re the Kia Picanto - it may be a five seater but only if you have no legs... my 10 year old's knees were brushing the back of the seat on the new one (without her in a child seat - so it'd be significantly worse otherwise).

  34. Hi - as for the trim level its not quite the standard "Sport". Changes from the stock "Sport": - Before delivery i had them swap the 18" Black with 18" Silver alloys (just personal preference) - Sport normally comes with silver grille surround not black - Roof cross rails are after market - Yes the badge is the "Sport Line" (from superskoda). Tacky maybe :), in my defence the "Sport" came with no badging at all, so I added these. - I also replaced the 8" Bolero entertainment system with a 10" Dasaita Android 8 unit - plug and play and a very worthy upgrade if anyone is considering it for about $400US.

  36. That will cause the EGR valve to be permanently closed. No exhaust will be recirculated into the intake. Usually causes a fault light, but you don't mention one. Valve itself, and inlet manifold will not clog up further with oily soot, but NOx emissions will be much worse. Living in the Highlands this probably won't cause anyone much harm.

  37. don't get the carbon fibre bits, get them all together and get them dipped its much cheaper. i'm going over most of mine as this finish is in a different league to the cheap fake looking carbon pattern on the skirts. £180 for all three skirts and the splitter if you do them all together, something to do with the minimum cut lengths for the wet dip material. If you want a more minimal look the maxton is the one to go for, its stuck from the top. This one is thicker and comes down over the back of the original spoiler, i just liked the way the lines follow around from both sides.

  41. Car back together long enough to go to Stoneleigh kit car show. Stayed in economy mode to gauge the range fir the upcoming French blat. Didnt last long.. met up with the rest of the gang at Regs Cafe in Banbury, brilliant breakie btw.. Then a cross country blat chasing an ultima. Which basically monstered me on tickover.. Had a bit more fun with Paul and the Ultima with a few extremely hard pulls on the M40.. up to 70mph of course.. pmsl. Popp ed along to the 1066 cafe today and was met with a wall of bikers out on a Hastings run. Got home and removed the awful MDF boot cover and started making a pattern for a new tonneau cover

  45. Even though it's not getting driven at the moment, doesn't mean I can't spend the majority of the afternoon and evening; washing, drying, claying, compounding, polishing and then waxing and sealing the bodywork................. Got to look after your prize purchase. I do give a wash whenever I've a chance anyway, but it's looking good now. And vacuuming, and window cleaning, and leather conditioning, and dusting the interior............ The only thing I've not done proper are the wheels. When turning the car around to change the bit of the tyre it's sitting on, even with limited braking, the rust dust gets here, there and everywhere on the wheel and tyre. Not much point putting tyre sealant on. 5 hours.................of hell later and we have one cleaned car. Even though it wasn't in direct sunlight and even after the bodywork was cooled down with the washing, the compound and the polish was a PAIN to get off. Using fingers rather than palm for wiping it off. I know it's not had a thorough clean in a while, but jeeeeeeez loiuse!!!! The low light doesn't really do it justice to be fair. Just waiting for a passing pigeon to do it's business on it
