  1. Look at all the Didldydaldi stuff in the background, not sure if he staged the photo or not but he wasn't kidding. I have things yet to be used that I have bought 2 or 3 times over from didldydaldi 🙁 When I realise my mistake I tell myself that it was an additional one for the UK or France, the 3rd ones are just in case. Never can find any of them when I need them or even be sure that I had bought them, thats when the duplicates get bought.
  2. Scores on the doors for this tank of fuel. 624 miles on 44.93L of petrol - works out at 63.14mpg Not a million miles off the 63.9mpg reported by the on board computer - around 1.2% out
  3. 22 and 7 kW chargers are different kettle of fish though. They need to be spread to every corner so everyone can be within walking distance of a couple dotted around the neighbourhood. They are like parking spots, if ones on your road is in-use, try around the corner. Rapid chargers, on the other hand, is like motorway petrol stations. They are expensive to use and you rarely use them, but when you do, they MUST be reliable and numerous, should be manned and you would never want to queue 30min mid-journey.
  4. I’ve owned my Superb Estate (called BOF) for 16 months now, and have put together a YouTube review of what I really think of the car after owning it/using it over that period. if you’re interested then please feel free to click the link below. It’s not a monetised channel, it’s just something I do for a bit of fun..
  5. I bought a cheap spare alternator for our Fabia on ebay once. Despite having already acquired a cheap spare alternator for our Fabia from ebay some time before...and I knew that I had done so! Still to use either.
  6. Er.............funny you mention that Bought in 2016 IIRC. Used it to polish my front and rear screens. Twice
  7. That will need a fair bit of effort to buff out, 🤣 You might need an electric buffer though, but I'm sure @Lee01 will have an unused one for you in his garage......and some Spak
  8. Another one from Knowlton Church a couple of days ago as storm clouds formed in the distance
  9. Well I've finished dithering and decided to buy one. Had a bit of a CARWOW scramble for the order, but ended up going with Merlinman's recommendation (as they were the cheapest and the easiest to deal with). So that'll be Rainworth Skoda then. My local dealer couldn't get close. Just 12 weeks to wait. Which would be fine had BMW not decided they'd REALLY like to buy my 5 series next week....
  10. Wanted to add my building/retrofit/cool-stuff experiences. Always hard to find detail and pictures in the wild so hoping this helps others. Badge and Emblem Replacement - Major Reason - I think the Black looks much better on the Steel Grey body paint than the factory chrome. Tips/Tricks/How-To 1) Give yourself plenty of time and make sure its not going to rain......the warmer the better as it makes removal easier. 2) Hair dryer on a low-setting will help to "loosen" the glue. Well its not glue its more like double-sided sticky-pad material. My car is only a month old so it may be harder on older cars as the adhesive will have set and the padding may come off in little pieces instead. 3) I used dental floss to "saw" through the glue holding the badges and emblems in place. You can use minty-fresh or plain dental floss :-) The front and rear badge have A LOT of the sticky-padding so keep working away at it. I found using an old ATM Card allows you to pry it off and doesn't scratch the paint. There are also 3 protruding plastic notches on the rear of the badge so it won't come off as easy as the emblems. Be warned it is near impossible to get the badges off without snapping them. The joy of the black protruding notches is that it will only line up and fit one way......and that's perfectly straight. 4) I used blue masking tape (painters-tape) to line up the original emblems as once you remove the sticky-pad and the residual adhesive you WON'T see the outline of the old emblems. After the work and cost you don't want to screw it up and have the emblem not straight........it'll **** you off every time you admire your work!! 5) Cleaning off the residual adhesive I used rubbing-alcohol and a CLEAN buffing cloth. Its easier if you can grab a little piece of the pad and SLOWLY pull it off as it comes off in one nice movement without the need to scrape off the adhesive with a fingernail. 6) Shine a light and look for any imperfections, you want the surface to be spotless, clean and dry before fitting the replacements. The joy of rubbing-alcohol is that it dries quick and leaves no residue. They're pretty much the factory-part so remove the rear protective strip and then line it up and press hard on the individual letters. I also used a paint-roller to roll over the emblem before removing the protective clear plastic just to be sure it was stuck on nice and flat. 7) Link for the badges and emblems. You can buy individual or a "pack". I opted for the body-paint coloured front and rear badges and the 3-pack for the emblems. http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-III/Octavia-III-original-Skoda-emblem-INT-version http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-III/Octavia-III-original-Skoda-MONTE-CARLO-black-emblem-set-´SKODA´--´OCTAVIA´--´RS-245´
  11. Picked up my new Kamiq 1.5tsi dsg four days ago. love it already, so far, so much lighter and more responsive than the Karoq, loads of space, quiet , very smooth and already 47mpg. My twelfth Skoda and hope it will be equal to the others ( octavia, vrs, superb/ estate karoq etc)
  12. Was race blue ever offered as a factory colour on a non-vRS mk2? I know it is on the mk3, but I didn't think that it was on the mk2. Browsing as you do, this ex taxi caught my eye on Gumtree. I can't say I've ever seen any other mk2 in race blue that isn't a vRS. https://www.gumtree.com/p/skoda/skoda-octavia-1.9-tdi-2010-high-miles-on-clock-but-had-new-engine-with-less-miles-no-offers-/1381417908
  13. Fantastic big wagons to do miles, in pure comfort. Also one of the only vehicles I’ve seen getting a new engine during a PDI 😄. workshop still averages 3 engines a week under warranty. my last Mercedes was more or less just as bad. 10k in parts in last 5yrs. my stress levels have probably dropped by about 75% since I bought the Superb. And long may it last.
  14. Weld in a 4x4 drive system from an audi tt i was suggested
  15. Because I already have them!!
  16. Now worked it out, new car sounds very interesting Martin, look forward to seeing it sometime.
  17. Hope your all keeping well Martin. whats the replacement? Model3?
  18. 😂 Yes it’s not easy to admit to such an expensive mistake.. the first 700 miles were fantastic, thereafter a nightmare. 9 trips in 3 months to have various fixes (or not fixes) led to the first ever vehicle I had to reject... I think if you get a good one, they are great. But a troublesome one will never be right. Certainly seems to be the case on the RR forum I used to frequent.
  19. Lee i have most of what you mention and loads more that I have forgotten. Re the corocodile clips I too bought 2 boxes, one for here and one for the UK and I have no use for them at all, in a previous life yes, but as you say they will come in usefull one day.
  20. @bonelorry I'm glad someone else agrees with me! Obviously the Golf R is much quicker to 60, but when talking about pure handling feel and driving pleasure, the FWD platform really is very very sweet indeed 👌
  21. Ah, but seeing as Range Rover owners don’t like to admit just how horrendously bad their vehicles are, they now claim that failed or broken components are actually a characteristic. Lol. Glad your enjoying your superb.
  22. Feels like a let down to the race blue vRS owners lol. I do like the colour being available on the mk3 though to the non vRS models.
  23. Thank you for the reply! All servicing has been done on the yearly schedule by a skoda dealer. The most recent service included the air filter, and I've definitely tried the Italian tune up method I'm not sure it'll be the fuel filter as it's flowing fine at high RPM but I'll see when that was last done, and obviously the oil filter was just changed. The plugs would have been done in line with the yearly service interval on that car, so at the 4th year or 40,000 miles I believe. Again, these will have been done by skoda. Interesting theory, I'll follow it up! See above Thanks again all Just to be clear, it's not a missfire and I'm not sure the average driver would notice the flat spot, but it's definitely there and worse when warm.
  24. If you give it a gentle tap on the leading edge of the bonnet on the driver's side with a sledge hammer you will have a matching pair of bonnet power bulges like a Ford Mustang and it may improve the aerodynamic efficiency as a bonus.
  25. Presence of auxiliary belt confirmed?
  26. One careful owner looks a real beauty.
  27. Doesn't that engine have a dual injection system, direct and port injection? I'm happy to be corrected but I thought the direct injection operates during low revs and idle and the port injection contributes during larger throttle and higher revs. Maybe the port injection has got a bit blocked through lack of use?
  28. Welcome to the forum. Has it been in an accident. Has it been a write off? Does the seller know of any issues or faults with the vehicle and how long have they had it. ? Are they the 'Registered Keeper', or is the car 'In Trade'. 2 former keepers means Registered Keepers, various traders could have had the car. ? Do you really need a diesel car? What age is this car and how many miles? It might have had the Emissions Fix, so you need to know what that can mean. If Skoda Serviced or sold by a Skoda dealer as used last time or this it very likely has had it done. In the MK2 section you will see why this can be an issue. http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-actions So, ? What does the Full Service History actually show as the Servicing done. Was it oil and filter each year and not much else? When was the Air Filter, Fuel Filter and Pollen Filter last changed, when was the Brake Fluid changed last if ever? Check for Invoices, Receipts for the 'Full Service History'. Check the past MOT's for Advisories and any past Fails so work required.
  29. You stated that the car had been serviced. Was this done by an official Skoda dealer? Did you last have a major or minor service? Poor performance or flatspots could be caused by a number of things, but if the car is not showing any errors on VCDS, then I would be looking at personally inspecting all of the filters at this point. Especially the air-filter. Is the car smoking under heavy acceleration? The other thing that you mentioned which is that the car has been driven very carefully in your time whilst you had it. As much as it might pain you, you will need to give the car a good long, fast run occasionally - keep the car in a lower gear / higher revs. The car should also be running on decent branded fuel with fuel adatives (no supermarket fuels) - you might want to consider a tank of super-unleaded. So - check the following: 1) Fuel filter 2) Air Filter 3) Spark plugs (they should be decent iridiums - and if not change them to decent iridiums) - check the colour of the plug. If it is black and sooty, the car is running rich, if it is ice-white, your car is running too lean. Check the gap.
  30. @wyx087 750 miles done since Monday. Car if filthy and away to get a wash. Also 'Wind Deflectors' for the front windows as essential if sitting in the car when charging, or just when it is pouring down, or roasting hot, and even both at the same time. (Heko only delivering to the EU, so that excludes the UK.) Given up on the ECO mode and AC off in the roasting weather and motorway miles covered. Most interesting 'hypermiling' was leaving a Charger in Ayrshire with 98% indicated and 180 miles. Drove the average speed area for 20 miles to Ayr and had 178 miles range showing, then took 20 mile coastal route back to the charger and i had 160 mile range left when i put on the charger and i put it to 100% and had 210 mile range available. *Driving the same roads in the same directions at much the same speed in the 10 year old 1.6 Auto Suzuki gives a pretty accurate 46mpg & i got 48 mpg doing that from cold starts in the 2.0TDI DSG Alhambra and that was using 'Coasting Mode'.* That is as much as i can be bothered seeing what is possible on those roads and now the tyres are scrubbed in and the pressures as i like i will just get more genned on alternatives for charging when on trips and enjoy the car. Done some draggy times, and Max speed and once replicated a few times i will print them out. https://networks.online/technology-operations/scottish-government-investing-in-ev-infrastructure https://www.scotsman.com/news/transport/scotland-spending-twice-much-rest-uk-electric-vehicle-chargers-1403534 Public / Tax Payers money in Scotland is going someplace if it leaves the Government Account as the Government has been spinning that the money is going to be spent. Perth & Kinross & Tayside generally has a pretty good spread of chargers. This morning i charged again outside Angus Council Head Quarters and used the 'Guests' WiFi as well. Pity that there are chargers sitting faulty as they have been for a while, and then the many EV's from various manufacturers sitting going no place as unused. Last night in Auchterarder a gent in a TESLA finished his charge early to let me get wired in. But my ChargePlace Scotland card would not start the charger so a 5 minute holding on got the Call Handler and she fired it up. This morning at 6.30am i finished charging earlier to let a gent with a e-Tron get charged. Both of these drivers shared info on where i can find proper RAPID chargers. These are ones that i had not found on Zap Map or Plug Share and will be happy to pay some cash money to use if and when required. So far i have paid £2.06 & £9.30 to InstaVolt.
  31. The JB cold weld is probably worth a try - pretty good stuff if I recall correctly.
  32. Perhaps the FIA should give the 2021 tyre contract to Michelin and request a tyre that can last more than 10 laps (35 miles)?
  33. FIA attempting to slow down Mercedes on all fronts. Party mode for qualifying banned after this weekend. Whose idea was that? Ferrari or RedBull? Also the money saving 2020/21 carry over rules are now being amended to reduce car downforce ( because Pirelli can't make a tyre for Silverstone ). Ludicrous - millions of pounds will now be wasted redesigning the cars that were supposed to do 2 seasons unchanged. Why not make Pirelli spend some money instead of the teams?
  34. Thanks for the replies. Good to know it is a standard feature so my car has not been tweaked. Gav: yes, later VW cars fold their mirrors on locking, if my Golf is any example. It's a feature I like as it's an instant check that the car is locked.
  35. Stainless steel lockwire is my bodging tool of choice for all jobs like this, only tiny holes need be drilled and you can also plastic weld the join as well with a big soldering iron using a tywrap as a filler rod (a top tip passed on to me) the plastic welding on its own would not be enough the next time a muppet does not know how many fixings to remove or his own strength.
  36. Possible to drill a couple of holes and secure with decent cables ties? I had radiator mounts give way on a previous car that were similar. I'd lost one side, but drilled and tapped a hole on one side, put in a bolt, that I left proud and then rounded with an angle grinder. The other side I drilled both parts filled both new cavities with JB cold weld and glued it. Both lasted the life of the car. Warrior's options sound more sensible than my suggestions though. Gaz
  37. I’ve just picked the car up from the garage running great now with no smoke, the head gasket was blown so with a new gasket, head skim, new head set and bolts, water pump, cam belt, oil cooler and new glow plugs it’s all sorted for just under 1k
  38. Yeah I think it runs rich, and the exhaust valves open longer or something to heat up the cat. It doesn't bother me too much. As once it's hiccuped once it's smooth as butter and never hesitates even at full throttle.
  39. We continue to install new 22 and 7 kWh chargers, many double output ones. They are not easy to install, particularly the 22 kWh as they need to tap the 3 phase supply. https://www.sourcelondon.net/new-ev-charge-points-installed-5-london-boroughs We now have over 1300 in London. Whilst London is very supportive of the change to EV it is still a 44 Borough authorities rather than the Unitary authority that Paris is for that roll out. UK government cut the EV subsidy by 20% rather than keeping it up with inflation is not helping the rolls out but EVs now are a substantial percentage of overall sales. Tesla banks at service stations seem to often have 16 chargers in their bank, shame the bigger battery non-Tesla EVs cannot use their chargers even for a price. Model 3 LR, Ford Mustang-e or Zoe seem the optimum choices. Who really knows how much we will need to travel by road over the next few months/years ?
  40. There should be that protection film on both sides.
  41. It was around £220 then about her £20 for the wiring loom for the boot lid (hatchback). So around £350 all in parts and coding/calibration. Fitting took quite a while, but I’d do it in half the time if I had to do it again as I know how to get round all the problems now.
  42. Have a read of this for starters!
  43. Tonight's sunset from Sandbanks in Poole, I'd missed yesterday's so I was glad it was just as good as yesterday's sunset
  44. Hope all is well with you and the family Martin, a great car for someone, well looked after as always.
  45. My passenger door lock wouldn't work at all, a new one from eBay cost £13.75 delivered. A silly price and, yes, it does work. 3 hours left on the offer.
  46. Reminds me of my issue with door lock which needed cleaning of the electromotor within the lock. Also you could have damaged insulation of wires within the door gaiter
  47. Personally, I don't think Dash Cams are an area to particularly "shop by price". I'm sure there are some really good budget systems out there. However, like with CCTV, the proof is in the pudding and I'd say there is nothing worse than spending any amount of money and then once you need them to do their job - the end result is useless. That being said, I didn't spend silly money on my Thinkware F770 (Front & Rear). Hardwired in with battery monitoring, so everything cable wise is extremely well hidden and they won't drain my battery when I'm parked up. I'm sure the model I have has been superseded now, but don't know by what.
  48. Try https://www.online-teile.com/en/ You can search by VIN
