  2. Had a courtesy car while mine (SEL TSi) is in at the dealer today and thought I'd go compare so to speak. Just spec and engine as the car is the same other than that. Spec I would say that as with most cars, SE is the best model in the range. One up from basic spec and whilst it does not have some of the toys of the higher spec models, it has everything you really need and is the best all-rounder. There a few extra's on the SEL that are obviously missing and off the top of my head they were: Larger alloys Power folding mirrors Auto dimming rear view mirror Auto headlights Auto main beam Auto wipers LED headlights Sat nav Part leather/alcantara seats 2 level boot floor There could be some more I have missed but I only purchased the SEL because it was in stock (used car) and everything just fell nicely price wise for me. I would say the seats are definitely more comfortable in my SEL. I find the SE seats a bit tight on the side bolsters which gives a sporty feel and I'd expect bolstering on the VRS but not on a car designed for comfort. I also prefer the dark wood effect in the SEL over the brushed silver finish to the trim in the SE. Wind the clock back 10 years and I would have thought differently. 😂 Sat nav I can live without as it barely gets used and isn't as good as Google maps via the android auto or Apple car play anyway. I would miss the auto dimming mirror I think but most of all the LED headlights which quite frankly are a revelation on the SEL and upwards. Engine/performance I have owned several diesel cars over the years and must say this is a good one. Plenty punchy enough for the real world and quiet at cruise. Inevitable diesel rumble under acceleration which makes me appreciate the smooth and quiet TSi engine even more but if I was covering enough miles to justify a diesel, I would certainly be pleased with this. Diesels always win for economy and mid range punch no doubt about it but all things considered in terms of performance, this engine is more sluggish than my TSi and the TSi would be better compared with the 2.0 TDi 150 in those terms. Off the line I found that it bogged down in 1st gear in a manner similar to my car if I put the gearbox in S. Definitely a much better launch off the line in D in my car. Of course, I don't spend all day launching like Lewis Hamilton off the line but I just wanted to see how it was in that situation. Overall I do much prefer the 1.4 TSi and it seems to suit the DSG better than the diesel. I didn't notice a difference in terms of comfort or road noise with having smaller alloys on the SE but that might come down to the Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen 2 that I have got on my car which are very quiet. All in all a very nice car 🙂

Indeed. I live round the corner from the owner of a Mercedes C180 Brabus Type-R Sport AMG. Hero.
  4. Just be aware if you go with Mountune, they've just engaged KPMG to try and find a buyer - not entirely clear what their fate will be if nobody does buy it out, but worth going in with eyes open before spanking £400 on an intake. Their accounts are showing as nearly a year overdue on Companies House along with the founders resignation in July. Doesn't look like a great situation at the moment, which is a shame because they built a great reputation with their warrantied Ford tuning.
  5. That's peeps, just wanted to check first, I have it booked in for tomorrow 🙂

  7. Yes, they appear to have different springs.
  8. In the end you know you are going to have to take it into the Skoda dealer - don’t you?
  9. Thought I should update the post in case others suffer the same issue. I got back to skoda saying I wasn't happy with their offer of 10% and they said they'd see if they could do any better. After almost 4 weeks of weekly updates from them saying they were having discussions between themselves they finally got back to me and RESULT - they're covering 100% of the costs! THANK YOU WINO for your help. Also this result has partially restored my faith in Skoda. It finally went to the dealership yesterday, they said it could take 4 days. I'll update the post again if there is more to add, but hopefully this is the end of it! Thanks again WINO, you saved me £1400 there.

Is there any visual way of telling if a Superb is 4WD or not? I've been been on the phone pricing a DSG service, one dealer told me that my car was 4WD when he checked the details which left me a bit puzzled so I phoned another dealer to check and he said it was a 2WD model.

FWIW, 'Which' have just published their latest assessments on the web. ## The top 8 were all far Eastern, with the top 5 being Japanese, headed by Lexus - pity the Lexus looksso ordinary, to my eyes at least. ## Then it's Porsche, Mini, Peugeot, Ford and Skoda in 13th. Maybe Karoq pulled down latter with early 1500TSI/manual woes + wipers issue etc. ## Then BMW, Citroen, Mercedes, Nissan & Jaguar. Vauxhall & Fiat better than VW @ 21, then Volvo (XC90 troublesome) Renault, Audi, Alfa & Smart. ## Subaru @ 27 rather spoiled the Japanese picture & next down SEAT didn't do VAG any favours (but neither did Audi). ## TESLA (mainly bodywork issues & Land-Rover (digital gremlins & mainly diesels) last of all, both get the wooden spoon Hybrids were found to be most reliable, mainly because many by Lexus/Toyota, who've been making them a long time. Petrols next. Diesels are less reliable & rechargeable hybrids (maybe not dominated by Lexus/Toyota) & EVs worst (that maybe skewed by TESLA bodywork issues), but BMW & Renault EVs don't do well.
  12. I've had enough of the rear washer blocking on my hatchback so i have come up with a solution. I drilled the holes out slightly larger in the brass to allow more water through and to hopefully stop it blocking so easily. Much better now and i have the added bonus of soaking cyclists when i go past.

brilliant. very informative write up codling99
  14. Thanks, didn’t know about that issue. is there a way to see if a VIN or reg has had the emission recall done, or is there a way to roll back the software if it has been done?
  15. 1 point
Yes, Which said as much. Luxury cars as a rule aren't reliable - except Lexus and Porsche was the most reliable European & VAG range.
  16. Thanks all for the helpful replies. Pessimal - the YouTube links are very useful. I have decided to endure the tyre noise until it is time to change my tyres then look for a quieter tyre. In the meantime, I will have to turn the radio up louder.

So in conclusion the more you spend on your car the more disappointed you are likely to be as Land Rovers and Tesla's are not cheap brands.
  18. Too much info is just enough! Again, thank you all so far. In this wet weather I'll find a quiet spot and abuse the start to see if I have 2 WD and not 4x4. Decided it's best to keep this car rather than find20K to replace it with another or similar. The prop damper disc is cracking up also so may as well get the pump, that filter, and the disc all done. I don't have a ramp and don't have the 'youth' anymore to clamber under the car only as high as my axle stands go (about 15") Will need a set of tyres before long for the winter, so in for a penny, in for about £1000!
  19. I've been using the VW maps in my Octavia for the past 3 years - why? Because they are available much sooner on the VW website that on the Skoda portal.
  20. Thanks for posting up your thoughts. I've just bought a 209 1.6 TDi SE Technology DSG hatch, coming from a 2018 Audi A3 1.5 TSi DSG (wanted to avoid the crippling balloon payment in 2 years time). Had it just over two weeks now, and agree with your observations. I will definitely miss the LED headlights, but the SE Technology has everything else that my A3 had that is important to me - dual zone climate, Android Auto, DSG. I have gone through the mourning process of selling the A3 and am now finding things on the Octavia that I didn't have in the Audi, little practical touches so Ch as the sunglasses compartment in the roof, the hooks in the boot for shopping bags and the active cruise control which is magic. All in all, I think it's a car which I will grow to value more over time - which is a good job as I'm in it for the next 4 years at least!
  21. That's what the forum is all about.
  22. Matt at haldex repairs is full of knowledge. He's happy to help over the phone aswell for tech queries
  23. I'd like a 360° camera system.
  24. Your situation would mean on-street charging or only use rapid charging. Latter is a hassle and cancel out all financial benefits of EV. Usually takes 30-45min to charge to 80%. For slower on-street charging, it will always take hours so it's best to do it overnight, hence it doesn't matter how long it takes. A very reasonable requirement, 10 years is typical amount of time to run a car. Considering all car manufacturers give 8 years warranty on their batteries these days, I think having the battery powering the car for 15 years is zero problem. Remember, most car manufacturer only gives 3 years warranty on the engine, we still run the car far beyond that period. For battery health, my car is only a single story to tell. I implore you to research EV battery warranties to see current state of batteries. You won't find many older cars than 2014. 2014 is still considered very early for EV's. It has first generation EV battery and currently it retains ~85% of its original range. So yes, they degrade, but considering the money saved from not needing to service the powertrain, fuel cost saved over 6 years, the slight degradation is acceptable. No, I don't need to charge it more frequently because I didn't run it down to last 20% previously, now just dips below 20% sometime. But when choosing EV, I'd buy 150% of your daily range. Use EPA rating as European WLTP rating is not very useful. NEDC is totally useless.
  25. Indeed this is exactly what most of us have been chasing. Tyre roar and its a problem. Its heavily dependent on road surface. If reviewers have not driven on coarse chip bitumen, then they would never know. It is my opinion the problem with the Superb comes back to transmitted vibrations through the cassis. And so its down to a lack of isolation with bushings. It's not really air-transmitted noise. Its through the body and re-radiated.
  26. With more use, I agree that the engine as impressive as it may seem satisfies less the more its driven. It flatters to decieve, when you need it to get up and go, you find its already got up and gone... It's a 1 litre, what else do you expect 😂😂😂😂
  27. Make sure if you do the job yourself it's definitely the haldex drain and fill plugs you are working. Several instances where people have drained the diff and topped the haldex up leaving the diff dry with the inevitable outcome.
  28. lights will work without coding. coding needed for additional features
  29. In reality it’s a non issue, most people will need a comfort break before the car needs charging, when we got the Leaf 2 years ago (which has half the range of a Polestar) every motorway service station bar one in the UK has EV chargers. Apart from LED’s inside the car and a pair of dashcams it will probably stay standard 😂 (I don’t believe that either!!)
  30. Very nice Gizmo, I saw some reviews of the Polestar and it seems like an excellent choice in the current world of EV's. (pun not intended) I would love to upgrade the Octy to a quick EV one day. Any plans for the 335i?

"At least the Kamiq has a low fuel warning light which the Citigo doesn't" err my Citigo does, and it dings too!
  32. Yep, it's a permanent live, thanks again. Car seems fine - no errors in the Maxidot at least. In the morning I'll test it as far as I can (I can't code for towing just yet as the new 'nextgen' OBDEleven device was DOA, and has to be sent back to Lithuania).
  33. This weekends highlights MotoGP and BTCC on 22Aug. Also NASCAR, Australian V8 Supercars, and Japan Super GT.
  34. There seems to be a much larger wheel arch gap on the 2.0TDi 4x4 compared to the 1.2TSi 2wd. Does the 4x4 have more travel?
  35. Yep that will be it. Just check it's a permanent live mind.
  36. In the style of Jim from Friday Night Dinner.... "Hello All....." It's been a while, nearly 12 months in fact since I gave a proper update, it's been a busy old year. We moved house mid November 2019, not far, less than 2 miles in fact but we have gone from renting to owning again after a few years. Needless to say, the house that was pretty much perfect, move straight in etc has occupied every single hour of spare time and money and the poor car has sat under cover in the new garage. Good news is the house is pretty much finished and the enforced COVID-19 lockdown period has allowed me to finish 5 years worth of house DIY in 6 months! Some of you may remember the slightly bigger garage at the new house, in fact it's a usable large tandem garage that has been significantly enhanced in the period we have been here. I have insulated the roof, plasterboarded, 7x new 6' Twin LED lights, cut and installed a large double glazed window where there was a plain wall, new composite door to the patio as well as grinding the whole concrete floor by hand before laying a screed of Ardex K301 concrete floor compound. Oh yeah and a new electric roller door. The plan was to build a lovely space to keep the car / cars and have a well lit, warm and dry place to do detailing & maintenance, so I have fitted the end of the garage out with units and worktop/tiles to finish it off. Here is how the garage looked to start with.. Fast forward many months of graft, DIY injuries, late nights, early mornings and we're nearly finished now... Coupled with the internals, we have had the front of the house changed, new driveway, fences, as well as rear decking - and I though cars could absorb money.... Upshot is, if anyone's still reading, is that i'll be back on the car soon, getting some more part from TPS the weekend so I've no excuse now to get stuck into it. Just need to Epoxy resin coat the garage floor first.... Thanks for reading! Matt
  37. Great news Matt, and you're very welcome. Feel free to buy me a cheap bottle of red if you like. 😀 Strangely enough, since you started this thread, I found a fault in the A/C system of my 2005 Polo (rescued from a one-way trip to the scrapyard earlier this year). Not in or associated with the evaporator, but actually a connection to the condenser that had clearly been leaking (wasn't clear to me until disassembled and seeing the 'mucked up' state of the o-ring). Funny thing was, it was the original condenser, date-code consistent with factory fit, and the car's history suggested that a condenser leak was noted six or seven years back, exact location not noted, and not fixed. I reckon that o-ring probably leaked gently from day one of factory installation. Just hoping that I haven't done the same thing to this o-ring when I reassembled with new condenser (probably unneeded) and supplied o-ring. Must get round to organising a re-fill.
  38. Out with the old in with the new. Had a mk1 vRS for 9 years from 120k to 206k and she been a brilliant car. Previous owner modified with 226 horses courtesy of jabbasport and Koni adjustable dampers. Always said we'd go beyond 200k miles and she did nee bother. Towbar for pulling my track slag to the track. What can we replace it with was the question. Wanted something smaller but nowt fit the bill until an irresistible deal on a mk2 limited edition. Remapped the day after. LE means she got the EA888 motor so nice and tuneable. Plenty of area under the nice smooth curve. Bloody hell she don't half shift now, pulls like a train. Wolf in sheep's clothing or what?
  39. The tailgate is the same except for the number plate recess,
  40. Close window, release switch then hold it up again for about 5 seconds.
  41. I can safely say that the Granville green metal paint is a completely different shade to Skoda green! Luckily for me I stumbled across an old tin of hammerite green in my shed which is an exact match. I best keep that somewhere safe....
  42. 1 point
It`s not. Offroad mode not only activates hill descent assist if neccessary but it turns also all direct driving assists (ABS, ESC, ASR, EDS and I believe also Haldex) into off road mode.
  43. This is a common one. There is a reset procedure that should fix this. From memory you roll the window all the way down, then roll it up and keep the switch held up for 5-10s after the window has closed.
  44. For some fresh air during the weekend
  45. The TDI-190 engine is harder to find and from reading the Skoda Media Room outlets info, it seems that Skoda struggled to make the TDI190 engine Euro 6b compliant, so it got canned. Ive owned a 150 and a two lots of 190 engine beasts. The 190 is a far better engine - and if you can find a manual - offers the same MPG as the 150 engine (depends on your right foot). The TDI150 engine can seem unrefined; the latest generation of the TDI150 - is better (they revised the pistons to make it a lot more revvy and more spirited); but like most diesels (unless you have a VRS-TDI190), they are not that keen to rev. If get-up-and-go is really your thing, I would go and look at a 2.0TSI petrol engined beast instead.

Hi everyone, I'm Tuna from Turkey. I had a 2016 1.4TSI Dsg Superb. Have a nice forums. Thank u.
  47. Sad to see you go, but inevitably our numbers are going to fall as time goes by and members leave for pastures new. In over 55 years of motoring the Yeti is the only car I bought to replace a Yeti and I must admit it has earned a place in my affections like no other car. And boy have I had some cars, starting with a split screen Morris Minor convertible - didn't attract the ladies like my mates bug eyed Sprite but it had a big back seat....,.. Enjoy your Karoq and let us all know what you think of it.
  48. Garage did my window regulator recently, inner door skin off, etc. I'm 99% sure they didn't take the lock barrel out, for what that's worth...
  49. It took me quite a few years to understand that driving everywhere at shall we say "top speed" was a really dumb, costly and pointless thing to do. I think I finally became "mature" when I got to the age of around 55.
