  1. Engine was stripped down and the head and blocks found to be warped. Looks like a new engine is on its way.
  2. Typical car forum responses above - totally ignoring the 'dapper' element of the question! Anyway, here's some items I spotted a couple of days ago that may suit a gent of your standing!
  3. There is an electronic inclinometer fitted, that works a couple of systems, including the HDC. It doesn't matter whether you are in forward or reverse gear. And the regulation of the braking occurs in the central ABS unit not at the wheel cylinders. Sometimes you can hear the valves chattering as they move the braking around to different wheels. And a bit of advice; never use the HDC in neutral. Although it does work then, it means that you don't have the ability to use a bit of power to get you out of a dodgy situation.
  4. Lol I sent him here from SeatCupra. That said Carista is free to download and trial, if you have a compatible OBDII reader of course. I just Googled "Skoda Rapid service indicator reset" and there are YouTube video guides popping up. It's the same car built in the same factory so...
  5. Car arrived tonight. Too dark to take any worthwhile pics but I'll get some up tomorrow. Absolutely stunning in the flesh, pics do not do these cars justice. Had an amazing drive home, if my first 20KM is any guide I will be one very happy owner for a long time. Virtual Cockpit, ACC, Lane dep, Blind Spot Monitoring, Traffic Sign Rec, Sunroof, DCC, Sat Nav, Columbus, 4X4, Canton, Virtual Pedal, Heated WS, Electric Seats, Heated Seats, - Don't think theres an option that wasn't ticked for it. One very happy camper right now. One downside to buying an 11 month old Demo Model is that it gets washed at a garage weekly. I already kew there would be swirls in the paint and there is, so it'll be booked in for a good polish, wax and nano coating soon. But I had already resigned myself for that and set aside the money to get it corrected. So it will not take the big smile off my face.
  6. Good price. I bought mine from TPS, fitted it myself, and got Skoda to code and calibrate. Cost me about £350 all in. Plus the best part of a day of agro for me and a mate! (Having not done it before it took a lot longer than it should have. Learning how to to overcome problems etc). You definitely made the right decision. £30 for no agro!
  7. I think the Kamiq looks a lot like a C4 Cactus!!!!
  8. Yes you can change under car/ lights menu if I remember correctly.
  9. There is an option to have the lights turn on earlier or later. Don’t forget the headlights are not just for you to see but for others to see you, just let them do their thing and be safe.

I have a form of high functioning autism that doesn't quite fit in a specific box. I do however have an natural inclination to want to solve problems and repair things. Limited experience in the field. Only started working on cars 5 years ago. First out of necessity. Then as a hobby. Currently enlisted in a work learn program as i combine school and work together to become a automotive technician. I gave up a well paying job as an electromechanical engineer to do so. Now 1 year of experience in an actual shop and i love it. Before all of that i used to work in IT as a programmer. And i the future ill most likely end up combining all of the above and end up working on electric vehicles.

Most of the dealerships I have worked at have always been very conscious of a new sump plug and torque to 30 Nm, then mark to show torqued (and rightly so). On one of my less than co operative days I had a 19 mm spanner in my hand and thought that will do. My apprentice quite rightly pointed out that I was not doing it correctly. I assured him I had an age old fracture in my right forearm that opened up at 30 Nm, so when I could feel a sharp pain in my arm, then I knew it was tight. He was amazed and commented how handy that was.
  12. I'd certainly follow up widdershins post above this. I had something similar although I must admit it was sort of opposite as it came on when I applied power and went away when I backed off. It was discovered when it went for its MOT by the excellent old school mechanic at the garage I use. They are a poor components he said and fail on lots of VAG cars with four wheel drive. Expensive part for what it is - nearly £200 as I recall. Certainly worth a look. Looks like this.
  13. I beg to differ. IMO these are increasingly common problems having had both issues on our EA111 1.2 tsi engined cars. Many reports of both of these failures on Briskoda, try a search. The PCV valve on 1st gen 1.2tsi (-2011) is simply poor quality plastic too thin at the point it goes into the camcover. Redesigned for post 2011 engines looking at ours. The electric turbo actuator appears to be becoming a problem on Tsi engines. The one on the 2011 Octavia is still soldiering on at 145,000 miles, the later 2013 Fabia failed at almost exactly 100,000 miles/ just over 5 years and cost around £1500 to repair. This trend imo is in line with a general drift down in quality with some of Skodas suppliers in recent years. Thinking about factory fitted rear brake discs and pads which seem to be made out of cheese lately particular on flagship Superbs...... Note some versions of the EA111/EA211 turbos fitted can't have the actuator replaced as a seperate part so a £1500 turbo replacement is required instead of £250 for the actuator alone. And I don't expect any LED should fail, ever, no matter how old, unless its a cheap and nasty part or built into a poor quality PCB. They are designed not to be replaced easily if at all. Lets hope the LED headlights on modern Skodas last the distance, I dread to think the cost involved in fixing one of those.

2020 Karoq Sportline 190PS 2.0TSI in Race Blue
  15. Most likely its the clock spring behind the steering wheel.
  16. Yes - the ODI algorithm takes lots of factors into account and should adjust accordingly.
  17. Looks good bro what turbo is that it looks BIG
  18. Yes. The noise was sorted. It was some sort of brace that had failed within the dashboard. The garage took it back in to look and they stripped the top of the dash off and that is what they found. It's been fine ever since thankfully and they didn't charge me anything which was very good of them.
  19. Would a caravan suit at all? The advantages being more space, no separate MOT, tax, insurance etc, you get to drive your car rather than a van, fuel economy is often better than a big van and you have your car with you once you're parked up.
  20. Ok, I got the multimeter on it and the numbers have improved even more! 12.59 volts with the engine off, with the negative lead on the battery and the same with it on the end of the lead to the earth bolt on the suspension tower. Voltage settled at 14.23 with the engine running, but with high beams on it went down to 14.12. Other good news is that the auto window up and down (the second click on the button) is working all of a sudden, no return of any weird bugs, engine light not reappeared, and it's also stopped vibrating at idle! (Maybe down to a fast run on the motorway)

Think I got one of the last Digital Editions on Amazon this morning. Work colleague came down and boasted about ordering one on Amazon (I'd assumed I'd been too late as when I looked when I got to work they had none available), I checked again and they had the Digital Edition in stock, so clicked a few times and spent a load of money. Went back to the page about 10 minutes after a friend was talking about being unable to find any and they were out of stock again. Pretty much everywhere is out now though. Argos is going to get hammered tomorrow morning when they release their stock!
  22. Just down the M42 junction 2 in Redditch : https://www.vw-retrofit.co.uk/ cost me £380 inc
  23. Its not notable different https://www.fuelly.com/car/skoda/octavia/2017/themanwithnoaim/656953 Check for yourself remap was done end of Feb2000
  24. That would be my threshold point as well Graham. Its nice to actually be able to watch the oil temp during times of high load, never been able to do that on previous Skodas. I would think that the oil-water intercooler would keep it below the threshold & that the cooling system would generate an alarm before the oil was at risk of degrading. Assuming the sump level was not too low that is.
  25. you mean Citroen perhaps. I don't agree
  26. You asked for suggestions. How about trying the shooting for a while before spending thousands on all the gear and especially changing your vehicle, I'm sure people will give you a lift across the rough terrain initially and that will be the opportunity to view their choice of vehicle and if it suits. How do you even know that you are going to enjoy the sport or the company? Or is it a business networking/falling in with the boss thing?

And if you'd prefer to have the fixed servicing because you drive less than 10,000 miles a year, then you can ask for it to be set up that way before you pick the car up.
  28. Warranty, the tuningbox went on a 1 month old car, the revo remap went on the same car at 3 years old Its not rocket salad😁

  30. It's a generic ELM 327 device and won't work with VCDS software The website suggests either OBD Auto Doctor or MUltiECU but I've never heard of either. To be honest, I'd probably send it back given you also need to buy the software... If you want to use VCDS, this is a brand new, genuine HEX-V2 (3-VIN) from an authorised Australian distributor: https://www.autoequipment.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=24_61&product_id=165 At least in the UK, the 10-VIN edition tends to be better value but you'd need to check based on local pricing.

the only tools you need for the DSG oil change that are not generic are- 1 filling tube to get the new oil in though some people have filled through the filter housing without it. 2 vcds or similar to check the oil temp. again some people have estimated. the cost of a pressurised oil filler will be recouped by not paying the dealers price and you have it for future changes. i was going to buy the cam belt timing tool but my mechanic insisted he didnt need it and he was right. ( I dont know his method sorry) I have seen a diy method that is interesting where you cut the old belt in half along its length, remove the outer half and slide the new one half on. then cut the second half of the old and fully engage the new.
  32. Your standard engine was very similar to my figures of 283bhp and 369nm.
  33. He knows exactly why the DTUK box doesn't work & yes I've seen the entire email trail showing DSD switched the test vehicle but, its great TV Really gotta be careful posting Secondary information without checking its full validity. Not a diesel but, my dtuk tuningbox ran my vRS at 291bhp, since having a Revo Stage 1 remap it runs 302bhp. An improvement but, not as much as I'd hoped for 50% more than the cost of the tuningbox, true the AFR was considerable different but, the car sailed through its pre-map installation tests.
  34. You must be joking! I know I've seen 120 degrees when towing with NO problems.
  35. Not a fan of tuning boxes as per below video from darkside develolments If you watch the other video he did aftee tuning a Golf GTD, it shows what works and what doesnt. Makes for a good watch and should save you some money in the long run. https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/Blog/mqb-platform-ea288-engine-tuning-184-cuna-cupa/
  36. When people are considering a new car, in their world its not a binary decision Octavia/Mondeo/Golf/whatever vs a VRS245.
  37. I have no idea how similar the BMW engine will be to a Skoda one. I believe your Yeti has a EA288 engine so the G266 sensor is in the sump and the oil circuit looks a bit like this: The oil level/temperature sensor works a bit like this: You should probably try and find something similar to the VAG/Skoda SSP documents for the BMW engine if you want to compare...
  38. I fail to see how it made your drive less safe? If you don’t like them turn them off or just pay more attention to what’s going on in front rather than what the lights are doing? just because your ok in sunglasses under the trees, an approaching car may be unable to see you and the auto lights actually assisted them? just my opinion 👍

When you say major service, what do you have in mind? DSG fluid change requires a special tool. Cambelt also requires special tools to set the timing. I'd suggest you sign up on https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do and buy a 24 hour sub to download the service and repair manuals before you get stuck in.
  40. Yes the head unit is a new model styled after the original 80s Bremen unit. It has Bluetooth, radio, pre-out for amps, aux, usb, SD slot and DAB And 4096 lighting colour choices. https://www.blaupunkt.com/en/nc/products/car-multimedia/car-radio/products/single/19059/ DAB isn't a thing here but the rest is just what I needed.
  41. Go ask your MOT centre for a second opinion. They have nothing to gain from lying. Like I said I got an advisory that they were a pass but I needed to monitor them, so I would have expected you to if they were that close. And mine were so close I had them booked in to be done anyway. If I had to guess I would say the “garage” is trying to generate some extra business. I will add however at that mileage they could realistically be worn if lots of stop start driving had been done. Should the MOT centre says they’re fine, then you know not to trust the garage. I’d take a manual wire brush to the edge of the disk just to remove any loose rust, which will make it easier to monitor in future.
  42. Lots of pics in this Italian thread showing what the difference in the two kits are.
  43. Afaik the newer kit can be fitted to earlier engines provided the top and bottom sprockets are changed as the chain link design is different, the sprockets are included in the kit. Here is a list of parts used when the timing chain was changed on my Nov 2011 build Octavia with cbzb 1.2tsi engine. (Skoda/dealer repeatedly refused warranty over previous complaints between early 2013-2015 claiming start up rattles were normal, then on the tensioner length which came in a couple of mm under the limit on the then TPI) Ignore the BEARING$ entry on the parts list as that was for a supposedly faulty wheel bearing failed by the MOT tester, in reality, when I checked it out, it seemed perfectly ok. Original Top cover was used as that TPI no longer applied. Oil leaking from the badly resealed sump and/or covers were free of charge. P.S. I might add that the engine referred to above must be one of the ones before the block design change as its sump oil capacity is only 3.6 litres, a later 2013 fabia we had (1.2tsi cbza engine) had the revised design block with 3.9 litre sump oil capacity. Also it had the unprotected plug leads which failed and killed the coilpak as many others do but best Skoda would do is a parts contribution.
  44. The issues were known when the vehicles were less than 2 years old. The Timing Chain Tensioner issue from the date before VW got an upgrade is just that, an early production fault. The Acctuator faults were part of Service Campaigns and TPI's and early on had replacement Turbos & Actuators being done under warranty, and out of warranty owners were often told they could not just get an accuator and needed the Turbo replaced. People were being told that just in the past weeks. So they were Design or Manufacturing failings and have been addresses eventually or not as the case is.
  45. Someone will have said the DSG did not need an oil change because it is a DQ200 with no service schedule / guidelines for changing the oil. The best oil is the correct one for the car from whoever. So VW504 / 507 for Fixed or Variable Service Intervals. 5w 30 FS III (that is long life) or for Fixed Service Intervals you could go to VW502, so 5w 40 FS. Pollen filter needs looked at and cleaned (vacuumed) or Replaced. Same with the Air Filter. Needs checked for condition and maybe replaced. 6 years is too long to leave depending on locations locations locations driven. Spark Plugs changed could be 'Simply Clever' @ 4 years. That was the scheduled replace time when it was Minor Major Service time about.
  46. You'll need VCDS or similar to adjust the coding within the ABS module of the car. I did it as per this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lUtH012kec as the controller is the same. But you must check for your car, before adjusting anything! :)
  47. Finally got the floor finished, I used the garage floor epoxy resin from Resincoat, two thick coats has seen it transformed. So, no excuses to get back on with the yellow one..... he says hopefully. In other news the Black daily vRS Fabia is moving onto pastures new, i'll update that thread accordingly. Cheers Matt
