  1. All, TL;DR Black friday discounts code at bottom. A little over 18years ago an idea formed and so it began. Now 18years is quite a good run... For anyone in the dark, briskoda, turned 18years this year Over the years we seen thousands of members post, read, learn, share. Over all models in the range, united by a common theme, if not always in agreement. Each month now we see millions of visitors, reading the rich trove of knowledge we have here. The community has grown, shunk, grown, and will always eb and flow, much like a river as it finds it's way through the countryside. The rise of social media was, and remains a concern. Many of us believe the forum approach offers more than the immediate here today, gone tomorrow of social media. But we do need you're help to keep it thriving. Post, share, spread the word, every action helps. Talking of action, climate action. Earlier this year I set about covering our ongoing carbon impact. The internet is a huge contributor to the problem, more so than driving this year We've been cabron neutral/negative for the services we host upon and consume for a few months now. I wanted to do more, carbon negative overall? This milestone seemed like a good point to do it. Looking back, it's almost impossible to say how much we've used to provide the community; we don't have a totally accurate record of trips to data centre x or y, so it's the best of british fag packet maths... I've taken what we use today, <1/2 tonne per month, still quite a bit eh? Then multiplied it back over time, then added a bit on; quite a bit on, because all those odd days here there, older it equipment was more power hungry and so on adds up... In numbers we might comprehend, it's around 250'000 miles. To that end I've offset an addititional 180tonnes of CO2 to cover our earlier years, that's 10tonnes per year, and includes some slack for driving to x and y, my laptop being on doing updates to the site at 3 or 4am the odd night... Going forward we'll be covering our continued use, so continuing to be negative, along with the tree planting programme. You can find out more about all this here: I'd like to thank the current team of admins, mods for doing what they do. I'd liek to thank former members of the volunteer force over the last 18years for doing there bit to bring us to where we are today. Thank you to all t hose who through freedom part with your own hard earned cash to support what we do here. Of course all that we do, would be for nothing without you, the community member. I thank you too, for your time, the dedication by many to sharing info and the helping others. Thank you all for being a part of, and in making this community. It's yours, you made it, each post, thread added a leaf to briskoda's tree of life. To think we've seen marriages, babies, life altering advice and support, and so much more, all from connections, people, through these few pages. Quite humbling, thank you. So it's 18years, time for a party? Heck yes. One small pandemic problem in the way. I'm begining to come up with a few ideas for next year, shows, trackday etc where we can get together in one way or another. We've all got many bridges and challenges to cross before then, so stay safe and keep in touch. In lieu of a party, I decided to make some space in the storage. So a 50% off stickers voucher code, and other stuff to clear from the shop. I guess you could say it's a black friday event... https://www.briskoda.net/forums/store/category/3-merchandise/ Discount on stickers other merchandise of 50% - code: 18years Old models t-shirts discoverd in a box - £5 ea to clear. Freedom, great value as ever from £6 per year.

  3. Thanks for the advice to date. Thought I’d send update to tie this thread up. It was heater matrix that had gone. Gummed up with silica....... mechanic put in new water bottle (no silica bag!) as well flushing the system. Car now nice & warm......Expensive lesson to learn....... Cheers
  4. Mk2 Octavia, I thought! I think these two characters are to be found as the 7th and 8th in your VIN?
  5. 2016 1.2 TSI Petrol has R134A 475 g +/- 15 g with normal AC on sticker under bonnet. Thanks,AG Falco
  6. So the UK Government could help those that want to go Green or Low Emissions and not scrap the car just the ICE engine. Maybe as a start drop the VAT on the Conversion or the parts. Also help businesses get started doing conversions and get young and old trained up to be ready for the near future, like in the next decade and for 2030 on. Keep the Independent Garages and Mechanic / Technicians, Engineers, Designers etc working and do not just throw money the way of the Global Car Manufacturers / dealerships & the scrap merchants as there could be money to go around to those that are just getting by or not getting by.
  7. You can get the lifters out using one of those telescopic magnets, Halfrauds sell one in a set with an inspection mirror for a fiver, well worth having.
  8. As per the we're 18 topic, I've added 180 tonnes of co2 offset to the pot. This I believe makes the community provision, servers, backups, driving etc carbon negative over the 18years we've been running it... I beleive that and as per previous posts will continue to operate on an offset more than we use to keep the trend going. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjrXXjQ6UDM
  9. Happy Birthday, Briskoda and thank you Colin and the team, present, old and sadly departed.
  10. My car is now 5 years old, and while it has low mileage it was time to get the belt done. Unlike diesels they don't change the waterpump at the same time, as that resides on the other side of the engine, and is actually quite a complex and expensive unit so is only replaced if leaking. The upside is that it is a bit cheaper than a diesel, €500 from Skoda. The kits includes the belt and 2 pulleys and bolts, and was itemised as €300 on the bill. I asked for the used parts afterward and found that the belt looked like new, and both pulley bearings were butter smooth and play free. I'd say there was a LOT more life in them, but I'm holding onto the car for a while so was happy to get it done for peace of mind. The car also had an oil, pollen and air filter service, and they also removed the wishbone bushings and packed them with lithium grease to hopefully cure the dreaded suspension creak. They seemed well up to speed on the creak and did not charge for this. Free wipers also under special offer, €200 for the above was very fair. Happy customer.
  11. @CookieMonster87The adaptive option means it has a limited ability to learn your road position and use that as the datum. Its not a sensitivity adjustment.
  12. If I was you I’d probably go and spend my money at Darkside Developments.

I changed my seat mat myself. No special tools required. Remove seat, work your way around the cover then with 2 pairs of plyers, open the upholstery clips. Fit new mat, and put back together. 1 hour for the base mat start to finish. But I agree. Takes a fair time to get hot.
  14. Not to the right. Well not that I’ve noticed.
  15. If we lived closer I would help you.
  16. As far as I know, the VC only ever shows a 'normal' Octavia :(

No, only in the de minimis theoretical but not measurable sense and certainly would not be felt or affect the stability of the vehicle. You need a significant amount of force applied to the brake shoes to create any measurable retardation, even if there were a big difference in adjustment when the brake shoes touch on the first drum the fluid displacement goes to the other cylinder (and the discs are doing the same thing) only when there is no free play left anywhere in the brake circuit will the pressure rise and measurable retardation begin. Of course this all happens in a split second in an emergency stop situation. What does cause noticeable instability is a sticking front brake caliper under light braking, the vehicle will veer to the side that is free moving. I still carry a brake hose clamp that i made as an apprentice, it doesn't get used much these days but is there for when a brake cylinder seal leaks, more likely a caliper seal these days except its very unlikely. Many a time in the bad old days I have driven for a few days with one rear brake clamped off until I could attend to it at the weekend, under normal driving there was no instability whatsoever and another driver would never know, under a full emergency stop the trajectory would change slightly requiring a little correction, no more than if one rear wheel was off camber or in standing water.
  18. Our Bodie, our Border Terrorist.
  19. They are approved for towing 1500kg Got an update yesterday that the car is produced and is now just waiting for transport. Exciting
  20. That's definitely a tappet.
  21. Yeah, I would think you are correct there, new ones should adjust without the need to wait.
  22. Ha its really Hard, I really should just leave it, it'll be like saying goodbye to a child. The smallest thing ill have on it is a bike rack. Biggest is a Caravan. Old before my time 😂

You mean 1 new training shoe.
  24. our pool fleet is worse... any speeding fines are sent to the lease company as the registered owner, who then forward to our fleet management dept who eventually send them to the relevent department's regional manager whose name is listed against the vehicle, who then has to ask everyone with access to the vehicle who was driving at the time and location of the offence for the lease company to be informed, via our fleet manager, so they can get the issuing authority to redirect it to the offender...
  25. Sounds like an old black cab! How many miles has the car done? Hope you get it sorted mate. I was planning to crack on with mine today but hasn't stopped lagging it down all day. Supposed to not rain tomoz so hopefully can get the new wings installed and bumper back on. My lounge looks like a salvage yard 😁
  26. SSP doesn't add much to my understanding about what comes out of the sensor except that it claims to send angle as well as turn rate info, where I thought it was only the latter. It says this: The power steering sensor G250 is located at the top in the steering gear and surrounds the input shaft of the steering gear. It detects the steering wheel angle and computes the steering angle rate. It is not an absolute angle sensor (steering wheel angle proportional to steering wheel lock)! Later it shows a diagram of the capacitive sensor: I guess, looking at that it can tell angle by which of the 9 plates in the semi-circle on the left are covered by rotor, given an initial lock-to-lock calibration or something, Was any such calibration done by you after installation? TRW systems use the above capacitive sensing technology, Koyo systems use completely different hall effect technology. Was the pump brand new? (Where from?) Good to hear you're up and running anyway.
  27. The coding you've posted looks to be for a 3Q0 camera but I expect you'll have a 3QD or even 2Q0 camera. - If you have a 3QD camera, it'll be a different byte/bit - If you have a 2Q0 camera, it's not possible with VCDS/OBDeleven to enable TSR as it needs an extra FeC applying :(
  28. Clearly the battery had some power left as although the engine would not crank the door locks still worked. I will be careful not to fully flatten it in the future if the issue arises again. Thanks for the warning. As car is hardly being used during lockdown again I have it on charge this morning for safety.
  29. The TSR enablement should be pretty much identical for any MQB car. However, it's important to find instructions for the right age of car as the modules change depending on model year. More importantly, is the OP aware that TSR needs an Amundsen to Columbus to work properly? It uses the satnav data as a basis and uses the camera to supplement it when their are temporary limits, changes etc. It can be made to work if you also change: Address A5 channel IDE04733-Road sign detection fusion mode to Road Sign Detection But I think you'll have a warning on the cluster every time the car is started
  30. I like 'em. Just so long as they're not in my back yard G

Fitted the OSR brake shoes and cylinder this morning and so much easier to do the job after removing the hub - and yes i bought a new hub knut :-)
  32. Well yes, A happy Birthday from me too........ I guess this forum has also helped a good number of folk get through this pretty naff year with the (other) dreaded 'C' word...... Cheers everyone........ And three cheers to Colin, Hip Hip............... come on, everyone, Lol.
  33. First of all - don't shout. Then send model number of your unit - I expect this is VW Delphi MIB2 but need to be sure. All others check your PMs - if you don't have a link it means there is no update or at least I don;t have any newer firmware.
  34. From what was said in a thread a while ago, you might have to factor in a decoke at 80,000miles due to the direct injection engine. Don't know how much a de-coke costs, but I've been thinking, assuming I do 10,000miles p.a. (only 6,000 in year 1 though) maybe keeping my 1.0 SE tech for 7 years, what with the DSG wear issues and the complexity & questionable long term reliability of modern car tech electronics. As I get older I worry more about being stranded by a broken down car. I also admit to being irrestably drawn to taking on board ever more tech features like 360degree cameras, self parking, lane keeping, blind spot monitoring etc. etc. - maybe they'll all be working that much better by then. I don't think I'll be able to beat that 46mpg overall, best long distance motorway trip yet has been a freak 53mpg actual a few months ago and that time I unwittingly left the gear lever in Sport mode for 40--50miles on the M4.
  35. I would love a guide! The headliner is my next step. Just did the bottom part of the interior. WARNING: Nude Fabia is lewd Fabia. Added some dynamat just under the handbrake wires to prevent rattle, added some aluminium tape over it to prevent it from scratching and cluttering. And here are some examples of the dirt that accumulates in difficult to reach places: I decided to try CrisFix's youtube guide for interior cleaning, it did wonders! LINK: Is that clean enough?=)
  36. A faulty lifter can cause the tappet it controls to become noisy.
  37. Happy birthday everyone! And massive thanks to Colin for making it all possible.
  38. i had a rummage down the back of the couch too Happy legal drinking Birthday Brisky, I only missed the first decade
  39. Again, greatly appreciated, @varaderoguy. I'm an old fogey in the sense that I've been around what we once called "computer mediated communications" since the early 1980s, and I love the ethos that I see here on Briskoda! I've already ordered an OBDeleven (1st gen) device and a Pro license and have already found the Traffic Sign Recognition enablement information which will be my first tweak. If I manage that then the OBDeleven and Pro license will already have been a completely justified purchase. Next would be to hopefully reduce the aggressiveness of the Lane Assist (I also found some stuff about that, more on VW forums, remains to be seen if those tweaks are available on the Octavia MkIII Facelift). As for our journey to getting our Scout, it's a nearly perfect car for what we wanted, and getting it here in Spain Was Not Easy. We actually thought we were going to have to go to another country to get it, but somewhat miraculously (we think it was a special order for a client elsewhere in Spain, who in the end chose to not buy it) literally just one new Scout came up .. as a 2019 model year closeout, so we got it, new, at an €11K savings. Hard to beat that... We actually didn't like the MkIV Scout's less-buttons more-screen-taps user interface (and especially didn't like the idea of buying one in its first year (and even more especially for the €12K price premium it would have commanded over the super deal that we got (even assuming that Skoda would have eventually actually released it into the Spain market))). Our alternative, believe it or not, would have been a Seat Tarraco all-wheel-drive, but we found the Scout first. (Once in a while I'll miss those extra 3cm of ground clearance hehheh). @SashaGrace (evil genius, love it!) I've seen many of your posts (some relating, I believe, to the Lane Assist issue), and I very likely will be in touch. I don't think I'll be looking at upgrading the infotainment system to Columbus or Amundsen - lots of money, and I think the only feature I'd want from it is the telematics/ over-the-air updates. I won't be able to offer much back in the way of car hacks, but I've got decades of experience in Information Security and Data Protection, so if from time to time I can help in those areas... warm regards, -Jay Spain
  40. Rattled the piggy bank for you
  41. Turn it off is my answer. I have. I dont rely on these systems to keep me in lane as I have eyes to do that.
  42. Sorted.... the angle / access is a bitch.... But the key was working out what needed twisting.... There are some stand-up metal "hooks" - but these are fixed in place, and this is what the bulb holder twists into.... So, the trick was to grab and twist the black bulb holder... Twisting anti-clockwise... but remembering you are looking back on yourself.... so kind of upside down... Just to confirm, the mole grips comment above was tongue in cheek.... what I used was an old rag (t-shirt), and warm hands having just had a warming coffee... and knowing what to twist and in which direction is the key.... Gloves if available.... would have likely worked just as well... Having removed it, the bulb really didn't want to come out of the holder, so a flat bladed screwdriver to prise it out gently helped.... Replacing is the opposite of removal, but so much quicker.... Thanks for the support / encouragement... Malcolm
  43. We have a 1.5tsi SEL new in March 20, it’s always felt a little strange, abit jerky when cold, lacking abit of power till further up the revs. well about 6months in, we started to get the EPC light come on intermittently only on a cold start, turning off and back on it went out every time. Only once a week sometimes once every 2 weeks this happened. Called Skoda assist to it who said it had a fuel delivery code logged, the guy followed his guided diagnostic’s which pointed to a cam sensor fault, ordered and changed the sensor... car is like new! More responsive, no jerking and feels smoother. Result! ultimate test SWMBO drove it.... and I quote “ wow!..it feels so much nicer to drive”
  44. Yeah, that trim is part of the seal (I'll be gloss wrapping that).. I'm talking about the trim that runs along the midline of the doors Thanks for the warning though anyway.
  45. I've decided I like the 280 that much that mine's getting a black Friday stage 2 upgrade. Life's too short.
  46. I'm with you on the 280 becoming collectable. Well I would say that wouldn't I . 280's are in demand & don't hang around very long when they do come up for sale. For me it's the fact that it is a bit of "wolf in sheep's clothing" with no obvious go faster frippery adorning it. Even the exhausts are tucked away & muted. It is a very quick car, even more so now mine has a Stg 1 Revo remap. Overtaking is effortless & it will haul huge amounts of stuff. Ideal for my camping & fishing gear & with 4WD it can handle inclement weather with ease & a bit of mild off roading when needed. My 280 will probably be the last car I own. For the money I paid for it at just over 2 years old there is nothing out there that comes close. Electric cars are stupid money for what they are - £25-30k for a supermini size electric car is nuts. I might have a look at a used one for my wife when the prices drop but TBH she doesn't do enough mileage to warrant the running cost saving. No, I'm quite happy with what I've got & barring it being nicked or an insurance right off, my 280 will be with me for quite some time to come.
  47. Ok, I have my serious doubts about that "other tuner" based on all of what they've told you... a) I'm not being personally affiliated to Littco in any way, but since I trust owner's feedback above any tuner's own claims, the experiences from Littco owners in forums don't echo at all the claims about cheap chinese items or worse, a bad performance/reliability. b) Every log of stage 1 on the gen3 I've seen is hitting peak boost at around 1.6bar (1.55-1.65), that includes the big, proven tuners like REVO, Unitronic, APR among others, 1.4bar is simply a joke. I'm sorry but on that claim alone I would say forget about them and find someone who really knows this platform. c) There is ABSOLUTELY no reason to be drawn to a stage 3 setup and a cost 3-4K for a blown turbo if YOU don't want that power. Plenty of turbo rebuilders available to provide you with an upgraded IS38 making similar power to the OEM unit (or a bit more) but a much greater reliability. To me, apart from their unsubstantiated claims about other turbos and remaps, these guys seem like they're trying to up-sell you to a solution you were not interested in the first place just because it will mean more revenue for them, I would honestly look elsewhere.
  48. It's impossible to get the cam timing wrong (doesn't matter if it's been turned 360 degrees) as long as there are 12 chain pins between the dots on the sprockets as it shows here... https://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/fabia-mk1/drive_unit/1.0/37;_1.4/44;_1.4/50_kw_mpi_engine/engine_cylinder_head_valve_gear/repairing_valve_gear/removing_and_installing_camshaft/
