  1. Just one question if I may, why on earth would you expect a dealership to make a good will contribution to your repair costs?. You have stated you don’t use them for service. This is something that I see a lot working in a dealership and it baffles me why you would expect a dealership after sales department to assist in paying for repairs when you are not a customer of that department.

It is _just_ possible that SGS did not receive your initial email (emails do get sidetracked at times) so I suggest the following: 1) Write to them (recorded delivery) and politely explain your problem and what you expect them to do about it. Include the piccies. 2) Point out you have previously attempted to bring this to their attention (refer to the email and include a copy) but have so far received no response. 3) Give them 14 days to provide an acceptable response to your complaint and advise that should they fail to so do you will proceed to claim against them for your losses via the Small Claims procedure. 4) After 21 days (just in case) and no acceptable response raise a claim online and incluide your initial purchase costs (receipt), piccies of the problem and any other costs you have incurred in pursuing the matter. You can include preparation costs for a letter and mailing costs but be sensible. 5) Unless they can show evidence they have addressed your issues the claim will be established and you can apply for default judgement, which will include your claim and any related (including court) costs.

  10. After being pestered by my Daughter for the need to charge a phone in the back seats of the car. I thought I would go OEM and fit the rear USB sockets in the centre console as my model of car didn't have them. Parts needed; I ordered these from www.skoda-parts.com, it took 1 week to deliver the parts from Europe. The only thing I didn't order from Skoda was the actual USB unit, as it worked out too expensive, it was £45 for the usb and extra for the cable. I got this from aliexpress instead as it worked out around £20 with shipping. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000454430275.html?spm=a2g0o.search0302.0.0.48f2d710S9U8kD&algo_pvid=d763b097-fa97-4d9d-84fc-cabfb2587725&algo_expid=d763b097-fa97-4d9d-84fc-cabfb2587725-26&btsid=0b0a555a16212796060048113e0e8c&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_ These are the parts I ordered from Skoda parts. 5E0 863 284 D 9B9 Storage Compartment - Rear Škoda 1 × 21,84 EUR 5E0 863 229 9B9 Cover left Škoda 1 × 0,53 EUR 5E0 863 230 9B9 Cover Right Škoda 1 × 0,53 EUR 5E0 857 346 A 9B9 Cover Škoda 1 × 7,49 EUR 5E0 857 289 F 9B9 Center Tunnel Cover Škoda 1 × 11,09 EUR POST14.00 Shipping 1 × 16,80 EUR Total price incl. shipping and VAT 58,28 EUR The only tools i needed was a Torx tx20 bit and the ratchet to put it in. Small flat screwdriver to help remove the 12v cigarette lighter socket. A plastic trim remover might also help, but never needed one. A lighter socket removal tool would probably help too as I had to press the tabs in quite a bit, to get the socket out. So I first started off in the rear of the car moving the front seat forward to give me more room to work in, this is how it looked originally. First I removed the ashtray, just open it up, and give it a gentle pull towards you, it should unclip nice and easy. There is an area for an LED at the back of the ashtray which i'm guessing is used in some models but not in mine. Next up put your hands in the hole where the ashtray was up towards the rear vents, just give them a gentle push from behind and they will pop out, put these to one side. Next up remove the 4 torx screws shown in the following picture. Then again I just pulled the trim part towards me, you may use you trim removal tool there are two raised parts which clip in near the bottom shown in the picture. Next up round to the front seat, move the seat back as far as you can just to give you more room to work in. The next thing i did was to pull the bottom trim down this just need a gentle pull downwards and it pops out. again just to give a bit more space to work in. (be careful if left in place when sliding the chair forward as it can get caught up). Following that time to remove the cigarette socket, (It may be a good idea to remove the fuse or take the battery wire off as this socket stays live when the car is off and if you slip with the screwdriver may cause a short). There are two small black tabs near the top which need pressing in to allow the cigarette socket to out of the black housing. I had to press them in up to the point I thought I was going to break something I ended up bending the metal slightly but bent it back before I replaced the socket. So maybe the removal tool is the easier option. Next you want to unplug the socket from the wiring, and remove the black plastic ring. The loom you get with the USB plugs, just plug between the cigarette lighter plug and socket. so you can now plug in the loom to the car wiring and pull the red plug and wire down through the hole. and for now out of lower trim that was removed. The black plastic ring can go back over the new plug. And the cigarette socket can be plugged back in. I left it out of the trim for time being until i could test the usb. After this i fed the wire with the red plug for the USB unit back past the inside of the seat. Then moved into the back of the car, moving the seat forward to allow access. This bit was quite fiddly as my hands are quite large, I fed the wire up with my right hand and had my left hand in the hole where the ashtray was as far forward as it could go under the air vent pipe. it took a couple of tries but eventually felt the wire and managed to pull it through. out of the rear trim. You can see in the picture where it is going up into the trim (it looks like it is looped around the chair but it isn't I haven't pulled it taught yet). Then it was time to screw the new trim piece in put it back making sure it clicks in place then using the 4 torx screws that were removed screw them back in. Next up I clicked the USB unit into the small trim piece, it only goes one way and the aliexpress unit was a perfect fit, I could now plug the red plug into the unit and test it worked.! ....It does. So carrying on I routed the wire where I thought it should go, there was a small hook on the left hand side so used that. and clicked the second trim piece into place. the blanking pieces were next they were straight forward and only go in one way. And the vents were next make sure the vent pipe is seated right as it is loose in there and I had moved it when squeezing my hand in there. These just pushed straight back in make sure you hear them click in place. Also the new smaller Ashtray just clicks in the same as before. Following this i tucked the wire up inside the centre console, and clipped the front piece of trim back in place again it just clips in place nothing too awkward. and pushed the black clip and cigarette socket back into place. The last picture looks patchy its because i had just wiped my greasy fingerprints off of it.!! And Voila one happy Daughter can now charge her phone in the back of the car.
  11. Let me introduce you to my project, hopefully you find it interesting. It's a ex Leicestershire Police MK1 VRS, 160k miles and a total shed! (Don't be fooled by the photos of the outside, they make it look much better then it is). I've been looking on and off for the last 10 years for one of these, from the time the early ones first started to be retired from service. My plan was always to preserve one in its original police spec, and that's what I hope to do with this. My plans are to get this back to a decent useable car first, while researching it's police history. I'd like to be able to use it without fear of catching the plague from its disgusting interior. I need to strip this out to dry it out as it's got the usual soggy footwell. I'll try to keep this thread up-to-date but it will be a slow process as I don't get much free time to work on the car. Anyway, enough waffle, here's a few pics of the car in service and also what it looks like now. If anyone happens to have any pics of the car either in service or when it was retired or knows the car and can share any history on it that would be appreciated. Credit for the in service photos goes to their owners on Flickr and Facebook
  12. Hey all Perhaps restoration is a little bit of a grand title, as I am tidying up, looking after and improving my recently acquired MY52 vRS. I've always wanted one of these badboys in yellow, but also wanted one that gave me a chance to learn more about cars and gain the sense of satisfaction that will (hopefully!) come from fixing one up. A few weeks back, this beaut came on the market - unmodified - and I snapped it up. At just under £1k, it obviously had some issues, but the engine and transmission seemed pretty decent. There's very little history with it, so a thorough service, cam belt change, new water pump and new oil pick up pipe are all happening soon, before I add to the 124,000 miles it's already done. The plan is to keep it as original as possible, but acquire some factory options that were left off (no cruise control!!) and add those as and when money/time allow. My initial list of things to attend to looks like; Rear brake mooring/squealing Interior light (driver's side) won’t stay on Rust on wings (dirt behind arch cover) Bent sills Low front bumper kerb scuffs Rear bumper scratches from loading (just no respect, is there? ) Rusted wishbones (MOT advisory) Cam belt and water pump change Total service Chipped/cracked grill surround Starter motor piston shriek Boot dent Gearbox oil leak? Peeling window tint (most windows) Tailgate struts (evident leaks, crap performance) OSF window clunk/rattle Water ingress in boot (both sides) Windscreen chips Replace knackered aerial Clean interior & boot carpet (evidently had previous water issues) Replace worn/scuffed/knackered plastics I'll prioritise the bodywork and mechanical stuff (in bold) before shelling out on cosmetic upgrades. I look forward to sharing my progress with you all and learning from those far more accomplished than I when it comes to car mechanics/restoration. Cheers
  13. Why is my new Karoq telling me to "take the wheel"? The message is normally followed or preceded by a message too short lived to read properly along the lines of"drive in the centre!" Usually happens when driving on narrow lanes with no or poor road marking. I assume it is something to do with the lane keeping assist, but I don't understand why I'm being nagged by the car. It's bad enough having the wife moan about my speed. 😂

Good evening everyone. In regards to Skoda Connect, it all depends on a couple of things. First, you need to pay the 42ukp (about 50eur) for the Infortainment license for your Amundsen or Columbus system. This will give Traffic Info, Weather and News Services. You will need the SOS physical button to use Care Connect which gives you tracking and live system diagnosis to Skoda HQ in CZ (another £42). Next, you will need to either get a CarStick (a GSM/4G modem for the USB socket) or set up a tethering hotspot (via Menu->Settings->WiFi) to your phone. Then you will need to add your car to Skoda Connect. It will ask for your VIN number (scan it using the camera or manually enter it), and then Skoda Connect/MySkoda will ask for a 6 digit PIN number from the MIB system (Menu->Settings->Skoda Connect->Registration). Type this in and after 5 or so mins, the car and MIB will sync up. To get Skoda Connect to give you the necessary service, you must maintain a data connection via either the CarStick or via the mobile phone data tether. Data usage is typically less than 2G of data a month.

One small point, the Sale of Goods Act has been superseded with the Consumer Rights Act (2015), which AFAIK gives the consumer better legal rights. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Rights_Act_2015
  18. Hello, i have not posted because i have sold the car. The braces were very helpfull and most felt on turn in and in the bends.
  19. Think it was ex management. I’ll be ringing the guys I bought it from to get them to add the sales service they said they would do the the record. Hoping it’s just a dodgy fill up so I’ll run it down then brim it. I’ll check the air filter. Thanks roottoot.
  20. I do low mileage so was thinking next year the mileage on Mot would be less that that on the invoice I have so would look suspect if I sold the car further down the line..?? Would someone ever ask for an old invoice as well as the usual documents?
  21. You are as well to brim it and then see what the actual consumption is over the next 100 miles or so. A bit early for a Air Filter replacement but looking to see how clean it is is worth doing. Do you want to leave it on Variable / Flexible Servicing. ? Was it a Demonstrator / Ex Management car? Surely they must have done some servicing before the sale to you. Registered November 2019 means the first Variable Service is due November 2021 even if it was in a Showroom for months. If due May 2022 then the service indicator was reset May 2020.
  22. The mpg I’ve stated is from the onboard computer. I’ll be doing my own assessment next. Fuel is 95. It’s only ever had 95. Filled in a BP garage that we haven’t used before. Registered nov ‘19, owned since aug’20. 9500 miles (3500 by me) The service light has never come on but the garage said the electronic log indicates it hasn’t been serviced, says it is due in May ‘22!
  23. Maybe James May was interfering with Skoda software. If you were TG fan you will know what im talking about..😁
  24. That's more for the standard SD card based system which has a CID (hidden ID code). All VAG standard mib2 cars read any VAG SD cards so you can buy a 32gb card if you got a 16gb card or lost one. It's really for the SD card based VAG systems not the mib2 high which is this thread title. Don't need a specific VAG card for that. I just get a bit irritated when people ignore Vag guidance and go off pista on mib2 high updates. Suppose to be a 32gb card, fat32, they are cheap. Class 10.

  27. Ok so I have tackled this job today. Pretty straight forward, but those modern day jubilee clips (hose spring clip) are a pain in the behind! Car now warms up quicker and maintains temperature. I lost about 1/2 litre of coolant overall as I didn't have any pipe clamps. Defo I will keep my eye on it for a few days, and check the coolant level just to make sure. Overall, very pleased with myself. Thank you to everyone above who took the time to write some advice for me, its much appreciated. Special shout out to @Volor for his information. Next job EGR valve on Friday, but I am letting a professional do that! Hopefully after that job I will be back to trouble free motoring again.
  28. Top banana, there was a fair bit of dirt that came out when i drained it, ill pull the covers off all the doors and give them all a clean out to make sure then, thanks for the advice!

Your car is fitted with a particulate filter (GPFs were compulsory after June 2018 iirc), so your dealer may be using a totally unsuitable oil. Castrol pro 5w40 oils are 502.00 ACEA A3/B4 spec 1.5tsi with GPF calls for a 508.00 oil with low SAPS, 504.00 oils with a low SAPS may also be suitable (as a top up, not sure about service fill) I note that 502.00 is not listed as suitable in the owners manual (2019/11 build) https://digital-manual.skoda-auto.com/w/en_GB/ Even the castrol oil selector shows only their LL4 508.00 and LL3 504.00 oils are suitable. https://applications.castrol.com/oilselector/en_gb/c/recommendation?vehicleType=cars&manufacturer=skoda&model=karoq-nu7-(2017-)&modelType=karoq-1-5-tsi-(110-kw)-pf-(2018-)
  30. It's sad to think of the great sponsorship liveries like Martini, Rothmans and Gulf, will soon be replaced with the likes of Duracell, Varta and Exide (well perhaps )
  31. Apart from the more exotic machines one of the best handling bog standard cars out of the box was the MK1 Focus, Mk2 wasn't far behind, MK3 less so and not driven any since. Much better than the equivalent VAG cars of the day. I find the Octy pretty capable but a bit over-damped, under-sprung and weak on the rear ARB. I have driven Octys with both KW street comfort and V3 suspension and (for different uses) that does transform the handling. Mine does not get the use to justify it but I did change the RARB and some pads may find their way under the rear springs one day.
  32. spoke to dealer today 77p incl vat have to order them in tho for that price i've ordered 2 Cheers for the replys

  37. Reading on the forum about possibility to upgrade navigation maps using USB stick (somebody mentioned that cars in Russia without data package on the eSIM are using USB to update maps) I decided to try this procedure. My initial driver was that a large roundabout near me was reconstructed (a year ago) with a tunnel underneath and maps that came with the car showed old information that was used during roundabout reconstruction. First, I tried the online update. After I installed Skoda connect app, registered and declared my user as primary, infotainment updated navigational database from 20.3 to 21.3. But unfortunately that didn't solve my problem with the map, my roundabout stayed the same with old roads around him. After driving couple of days irritated how can a year old change still not be updated in the current navigation data, I tried the USB procedure: From the https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ I downloaded 25GB of ECE 2020/2021 maps As I didn't have 32GB USB stick I used old 2.5" HDD in external enclosure with USB-C cable. This proved very useful because this enclosure has activity LED so you can see if something is happening with the disk I used MiniTool Partition wizard under windows to format my 80GB HDD with FAT32 4k cluster size as per instruction on update portal I extracted the zip file on the the drive I started the ignition, waited for infotainment to boot and plugged the USB disk to the socket closer to the gear selector The LED on the HDD started blinking, you can defensively see when disk is mounted and than infotainment started reading and copying data from the disk. This lasted about 10-20min. It is hard to say exactly how long because i was mounting fire extinguisher under the driver seat. When LED stop blinking I unplugged the disk. After the procedure was done I powered down the infotainment by long pressing the power button. After the infotainment booted again I immediately checked the navigation databases version and to my surprise it showed the exact same number 21.3. Disappointed, I turned of the car and went home. The next morning on my way to work I noticed that roads around my roundabout were showing correctly with the new tunnel underneath. Now the navigation didn't go mad when I went through the tunnel. After arriving to work I checked the navigation database and it still showed the same old version number 21.3. Now I was confused. The maps definitely changed but the version under System Information remained the same. It remains mystery what information is pushed over the OTA update and what information was copied from the USB disk. If somebody also has some know road that is missing on the map you can try this procedure and check if this helps.
  38. At least you get to eat the culprit.
  39. Just found this and updated the POI as per @bigade1instructions for the latest update. Quick and easy to do, thanks very much!
  40. Plastic impellors have been around for a very long time, now many vehicles have plastic pump casings as well & that in itself is not a problem at all, VAG have problems with a solenoid operated impellor shroud that enables the vehicle to warm upmuch quicker and the system works remarkably well until the shroud sticks & then it becomes a chocolate teapot. I dont think the problem is due to the extensive use of plastics, more the inevitable complication and reliability issues in chasing emissions targets.
  41. To @Shaunieboy - This is mine.. Exact model can say our fellow @JORDITO
  42. I removed the plastic grommet from the bodywork with a small screwdriver. It's easy to get the rubber gator back on and push the plastic grommet back in place afterwards 👍
  43. I’ve ran both and find the 225/45 more planted to the road. And to be honest I’ve only ever bought 225/45. The 205/50’s have usually what come with the car when purchased. I also think they look better than the taller tyre. And yes, they will be cheaper as it’s a much more common size. Often you can find a set of RS5 or EagleF1 or Falken F510 (x4) for under £240.
  44. Pretty sure the 4x4 has the same dampers as vrs. Fitting vrs springs should offer an acceptable ride.
