  1. Automation is coming! According to the DVLA, 52% of the UK's Karoqs have DSGs as owners realise the benefits of automatic gearboxes. And if an inattentive driver is coming towards me I'd be very happy if the Lane Assist on his car prompted him to take his eyes off his phone and return to his lane! Now if we could only get automatic indicators for BMWs Chris
  2. Just fitted the koni fsd (special active) and wow what a difference.. no wallowing round corners no bouncing after bumps and no crashing though potholes and minor bumps.. really sure footed now.. I am also lowered on H&R with 12mm spacers. It’s properly spot on and very highly recommended mid for the price
  3. Koni special actives mate. Just fitted a set that I brought form a member on here and it’s absolutely lush
  4. 2 points
Spacers make a big difference mate. I run 12mm front and back.. H&R ones but I’m also lowered on H&R.
  5. I only did a short stretch of motorway so didn’t check the rpm. I noticed the speedo said about 75 while the sat nag said around 70. Didn’t seem noisy but plenty of torque still left. Tyre pressures were 30 front and 30 back when I picked it up. Changed to 32 front which seems perhaps a touch firmer. Bridgestone on the back and Nexxen on the front. Getting around 40-45mpg on the short journeys. There might be a knocking from the rear suspension so that is worth an investigation. The PID is proving a bit of a faff. I think I’ll be better with a phone mount but will use it for certain functions. My wife really likes it too - reminds her of her first car, a mk2 golf, in that you just get in and drive it without it beeping and shouting at you. Good result. The torque is quite surprising making it easy to drive around town and 2nd gear offers a lot of flexibility. I can see why people are happy with the 60bho version. However, I do like the way it pulls to the red line when joining fast roads, the extra power high up is a good thing. I don’t think most people use high revs in cars, so it’s a hidden feature, but it’s good to know it’s there to be used when needed. After a few days with it I still think it’s a great little machine.
  6. Today I was informed that they are working on a new 1805 version, but they encountered some problems, so it has been delayed. But for my old 1668 SW, still no further information. Daily faults of the park sensors and bluetooth not connecting. Will be the next owners problem, I'm switching to an Audi A3 in two weeks. The updates are "workshop only" updates, as it works with USB and online connection at the same time. Kind regards, Wes
  7. I took delivery of my MY19 Skoda Superb Sportline (206kw 4x4) in July last year with under 5,000km on the clock and with no evidence of any service history in its previous life as a Skoda corporate vehicle. This car is a long term keeper for me and I intend to look after and modify it to suit my wants and needs, so I had my preferred specialist perform an oil/filter change. I hit 15,000km last week and took it in for its first (and likely only) dealer service, so that I could establish a relationship in case of any warranty issues in the future. I asked which oil they use and the answer was Skoda oil... this didn't reassure me so after some discussion they agreed I could supply my choice of oil (Liqui Moly Top Tec 4200 Engine Oil 5W30) as long as it complied with their approval and specs, which it does. Now that I have the car back from the dealer I have replaced the OEM air filter with an aFE Magnum FLOW Pro 5R Air Filter and fitted the DTE Pedalbox that I got recently. The Pedalbox is great in immediately eliminating the throttle lag and improving pedal response, very happy with this and an easy fit thanks to the tips from others on here who have fitted one previously. Remaining on my to do list is deciding on: a front/rear dash cam setup, improving the air flow from airbox to turbo, a cat back exhaust upgrade and how long I can wait until I upgrade to a Stage 1 tune.
  8. You and I clearly are at opposite ends of the spectrum. You clearly think dealerships get a bad time from people like me I am making the assumption that you are a master technician with a Skoda dealership from your email address so you naturally take the side of the Skoda dealership, thats only natural. There are other ways to view this however. The staff at the dealership certainly didnt flinch or make the sign of the cross(!) etc when I bought the car from them and quite a few thousand pounds changed hands. I was certainly welcome then, I was certainly a customer then. When did I stop being a customer? The minute I started using an independent for servicing? I am sure the staff at the dealership are all decent people BUT they charge a lot more than my independent does to fit the same genuine Skoda parts which is why I do not use them for servicing. You are saying that I am not a customer therefore, ergo, I have no standing with them and thats why they wont pay for my repairs. You are not taking any account of the fact that my car is serviced with only Skoda genuine parts so its not inferior parts that are the issue here. Its purely, according to you, that I havent had the car serviced by the dealership that accounts for them not wanting to pay for my repairs . Its nothing to do with the car being serviced correctly with only genuine parts being used. Its a matter of finance only. neither my independent or the dealership will have specifically serviced either of the 2 parts in question. Essentially, you are saying that redress/support only comes into it if you have paid more to have your car serviced at a dealership even though the quality of the labour and parts is exactly the same as if an independent had done the service. I believe that your partisan approach has prevented you from giving my view a fair and objective assessment. For my part I can see where you are coming from. I reject completely your assertion that am being unreasonable with the dealership. You are saying that my car must be serviced by a dealership to get any chance of redress/support when parts fail . That used to be the case with new cars when manufacturers insisted their cars had to be servived at a relevant dealership but that changed. As you will know, as long as an independent garage is registered for VAT and only Skoda genuine parts are used the warranty remains valid. That change may well not suit the manufacturers or their franchised dealerships but it most certainly benefited the customer . I have not changed my view on this one bit and i dont suppose you have. Lets agree to disagree. OK with you?

  10. This review was posted in the Karoq section of Briskoda initially, but thought those who frequent the Performance and Tuning Section might also be interested. Recently had my Karoq Sportline 2.0TSI 190 TSI 4x4 tuned and wanted to share my experience. The ECU tune was provided by TVS Engineering who are based in the Netherlands. They have dealers/workshops throughout the UK (and the world) that can install the tune. I chose their Stage 2 ECU remap - this is their maximum performance tune available for a stock engine. They claim up to 280hp and 450Nm, compared to the stock 190hp and 320Nm. The engine installed in this car is an EA888 Gen 3B with a Bosch ECU. The tuning shop I took the car to needed it overnight to unlock the ECU, flash the base Stage 2 tune onto the ECU, and then do some performance runs and logging. They then send these logs/data to TVS in the Netherlands for assessment where the necessary tweaks are made to fine tune the file. This back and forth can occur several times until both TVS and the tuning shop are happy with the results, and the final tune is flashed to the car. So they effectively take a ‘base’ tuning file and fine tune it to your individual car. They can also do a custom tune – ie - you can specify the increase in power and torque (within limits of course). My car is stock except for the ECU tune - no hardware mods. I’ll probably add an aftermarket cold air intake in the future for some increased induction and turbo spool sound. The attached performance figures were recorded using a Dragy GPS Performance Meter. Using launch control the car ran consistent 0-60 MPH (0-96 KM/H) times of 5.2 to 5.3 seconds over several runs. From a standing start (no launch control) the car ran 6.1 to 6.3 seconds. Temperature was 18 degrees Celsius with high humidity at time of testing, on a dry track. This is in comparison to a stock 0-60 MPH time of 6.9 seconds using launch control. 1/4 mile time was recorded as 13.8 seconds. The Sport Information readout in the car’s infotainment screen now indicates maximum power of 248hp, but unsure of how accurate this is. However using an OBDEleven scanning tool ‘Nominal Torque’ is now rated at 470Nm, with a live data readout showing a peak of 480Nm. The car wasn’t put on a dyno, but rather data logging was completed on closed circuit roads. There was the option to dyno the car, however the tuning shop didn’t deem it necessary unless I wanted a readout of hp and torque gains. I was mildly curious to see what the car would pull on the dyno, but already had a good idea what the final figures would be based on previous tunes TVS had published on their Facebook page with customer's cars. Obviously the car feels significantly quicker than stock. It seems to accelerate just a quickly in third/forth gear as it does in first/second gear, leaving me wondering if torque/power is being limited in first/second gear. Third/forth gear acceleration seems especially rapid. The engine feels stronger in both Normal and Sport driving modes, with Sport mode feeling particularly more lively. There is still a small amount of low rpm lag until approx. 1800rpm, but this is followed by a rapid and smooth power delivery all the way to redline. The car is deceptively quick at times because of the linear way in which power is delivered. The car was also remapped with the TVS Stage 2+ DSG (TCU) tune to handle the extra torque and power that the engine now makes. It has improved gear shift times, stops the transmission upshifting too soon, and provides a smoother low speed driving experience compared to the jerky and frustrating stock DSG tune. Overall I’m happy with the gains and how the car is performing so far. Happy to answer questions. 0-60 MPH: 0-100 km/h: 1/4 Mile:
  11. Because it dries the air in high humidity by condensing the moisture out of it before blowing it at the windscreen, it does clear the screen quicker when the engine's still cold.
  12. Cheers mate, appreciate the reply, ill give it a go!
  13. So i went and ive bought this https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08BZNM568?ref_=pe_780071_41837251_dpLink - my thoughts where if it works, yeah great, if its ****e amazons return policy is wonderful. So ive got it, plugged it in, got a quadlock adapter into the unit itself, but doesnt power on, someone says they had to splice into the cables and run a direct 12v feed, but i have no clue on wiring, it hurts my brain.
  14. I think it's the second item 9 here: mounting parts for engine and transmission - Fabia(FAB) [EUROPA 2012 year] (7zap.com) 6Q0199555AT Unless your engine is CLMA code, which I've never heard of, in which case it's the first item 9.
  15. That doesn't even make sense sorry! I mean would the tent fit over the tailgate if it was up and be a good fit if that makes sense?!
  16. Decathlon do a perfect one for £99 but I cant recall the name. Yes I can, its this one, you need to look at the 9th picture (scroll down) to realise that it is made for the job. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/6-person-camping-living-area-arpenaz-base-m/_/R-p-157674
  17. The Skoda mug, it's ceramic with a rubber top, which is very awkward to but on
  18. Well, at a guess I'd call that "Rear bumper, lower support bracket, left-side" Try that description as a start for a part # search.
  19. I'm not adhering to the Skoda UK recommendation of a change every 5 years/50K miles but I don't recommend it if you are of a nervous disposition. I do think about it a lot when driving the car and do keep a close eye on the forums. Since I plan on keeping the car for the long term, I will probably change the belt after 7-8 years/70K miles since I will have to do one belt change anyway. If the water pump is the weak point, I will just keep a close eye on the coolant level. People claim they change it for "peace of mind" (oh, the cost is only the equivalent of only one costa coffee per week) but I regard it as a protection racket which I am going to try and not fall victim to. I don't think the Germans would recommend a 10 year/210km change/inspection unless they had solid data to back it up.
  20. Your speedo will be hopelessly inaccurate and the front tyres will foul the arch on full lock, also your acceleration will be much slower. They are the wrong size, @Alexandruis a wild man, best advice is NOT to fit them.
  21. Update on the wiper arm adjustment: I succeeded moving the arm a single spline from its original position - now it is no longer reaching the end of the windshield. The red line is my yesterday's adjustment that was way too close to the edge of the frame and the yellow line is the correction from today, which seems how the wiper arm should have been put together on the assembly line 😅
  22. 8y ago it was looking like this.
  23. I have served in the GR Army where some phrases were very common but the problem was that if you use them in every day conversation with a Civilian the result would be a disaster. You could expect from a slap or punch to a lawsuit and end up in a court with a huge fine or in jail. English are not my mother language and as an adult i don't like to use the modern ''internet slang'' as many teenagers do. Let's stick here to every day simple english with some technical terms since we are talking about cars otherwise we will end up talking like these: You are my Man.
  24. More SOS errors and Skoda appear to claim they do not know the actual reason. They still maintain that there are only a handful of incidents and the local dealer claimed to have had no idea about the recent newspaper feature Interestingly I have pinned it down to very specific areas where this happens. I have also read in other forums that users experience the issues in geographically similar areas in their region. Some years ago my car (not a Skoda at that time) used to disable the engine via the anti-theft system and I had to have the car towed 1/2 mile to a different location where it all worked again. THis was traced to radio transmissions in a local area (Police of Home Office) and a fix was found within a few weeks. I have mentioned this to Skoda. They wanted to know where my SOS failure happened so I gave then the same useless coordinates that their satnav uses so they could try and figure out where it was - but I also gave a 'real world' address and post code which is how most of us expect a satnav to work. (There is a parallel thread on satnav postcode vs lat/long and off road locations being displayed).
  25. I'd say it's very likely to be the battery at that age.
  26. AFAIK no. Apparently only dealers have option to download firmware directly to USB and initiate update. OTA upgrades can be related to the region also. Maybe you version is the latest version for Israel.
  27. Glad you enjoyed it
  28. So, as an update, I built this: Asus B550i Motherboard Ryzen 5 5600X CPU ID Cooling se224XT Tower Cooler Adata 1TB NVME Corsair SF600 PSU MSI GTX970 GPU (Second hand one from a friend as you can't buy anything newish right now) Cooler Master NR200P Case 2 x Arctic P12 fans There's my old SSD/HDDs in there too. They'll be replaced in time. I got the 5600X in the end, not for performance now as I'll never notice that but more than it'll just last longer and as there's no more AM4 generations I'd rather what I have last as long as possible. Pleased with it though. Under non gaming loads it's silent. When playing games it's still quiet. All stays cool, it's compact, does what I need it to. Shame I couldn't get a new GPU but I'm playing older stuff right now anyway and the 970 copes fine. Eventually I'll upgrade.
  29. Awesome Daz! Many thanks for the detail and expertise (which was pitched perfectly btw!). I'm anoob to most car things but as I'm not too fussed if it takes a while and a few clips break a long the way I'll be giving it a try at the weekend. Useful to know that it's normal for a few to snap. Cheers!
  30. You can't update the car on your own. Some minor updates (like maps, T&C, etc.) will come as OTA and they will be installed automatically. All other major updates need to be installed in the workshop.
  31. My 2001 1.9TDi I took up to 500000 kms, I would still be driving it now had I invested in VCDS sooner, trouble was it was so reliable I had no need of it before.
  32. with your car being a 2016 car, it should be due the 5 yearly cambelt change. I'd get the waterpump done at the same time. As said above as well, if your expansion tank as 'mit silikat' on it, it'll have one of the silica bags in it as well. I'd get that whipped out as well before you have the work done.
  33. More of a project than either of mine!
  34. Scroll the right wheel, and it gives you the option to hang up if you press it.
  35. nope, easy enough - this video shows the process well. I got the version that , as well as indicating, does some cool blue led animation when the puddle lights come on also https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001893801465.html
  36. @Golanl1978 I beleive the process should be explained in your car user manual. If you don;t find it then rather check with your local Skoda dealer as I am not into MIB3 infotainment systems at all.
  37. I don't understand your comment. The files are already attached to my post and available for download. As this is a Skoda forum I doubt very much if anyone has tested it in a Seat car. Saying that, Seat and Skoda are sister companies so it all depends on the make and model of your Infotainment system. My compilations are prepared for the Amundsen MIB2 which is the one that I own. They will also work on most MIB2 Columbus units as well. If your unit is the same make then they may work. You can try them yourself. It shouldn't cause any harm because if the files are not compatible then the unit will not recognise them.
  38. Some epic photos coming in from the Wookies event. I'm wearing my "I'm driving a quattro on a volcano" grin.
  39. Yep, and that is still less confusing than asking VW themselves Many have asked the question and the answer seems to be that UK only is 5 years, the rest of Europe is 10 years inspection, replace if necessary! For me, the car is out of warranty so it will be my gamble when the time comes in 8 months. I'll probably be near to 80,000 miles then so will get it done.
  40. Thanks all. Picked up my first Citigo today. Drove the 2 year old 1.5tsi dsg Seat Ateca 80 miles as a part exchange. The new Citigo is a 65 plate greentech SE-L so a bit of a downgrade on paper. I haven’t driven a Citigo before so it was a bit of an unknown but the Seat was too much car for us and we needed a small one for short journeys. So, what were my first impressions driving it back on A and B roads through Kent and Surrey? I was expecting an underpowered tin box that did the job is was meant to, I wasn’t expecting something that was quite so much fun. There were a lot of national speed limit B roads and, by ‘eck, I’ve haven’t driven such a fun car in years! Keep it in fourth for the most part and third for the slower corners and it comes alive and laps up the road. Brilliant brakes, superb body control over bumpy roads, decent enough steering (though posssibly a bit light although not a problem), good gearbox if I remember the correct hand position from second to third, and all within reasonable speeds. I overtook a few vehicles without issue but have to say I’m glad of the 75bhp. Keeping the foot in when in second gear up to 5500rpm brings on a nice reserve of top end power up to around 50 I think. I did try to keep it in third on the 60mph twisty roads but it was better in fourth using the torque band, unless it was a sharper corner. Quite a spread of useable revs in a given gear which is really refreshing coming from the narrow power band of diesel turbos. Coming onto the motorway I held it in third up to the top end of the range and it got up to speed well, but fourth would have been fine. It understeered a bit on some tight bumpy corners but was predictable. I didn’t really push it too hard to see if it would bring the back end in, but it doesn’t seem like that sort of car - it’s fun enough without having to slide around. The motorway was fine, if noisier than the Ateca, but the engine sounds quite good and can still pick up speed. Some vibration at idle but minimal, more of a thrum. Might be because it’s got 35000 miles on it. Doesn’t rattle and feels really solid. 51mpg average for that journey and that reflects the style of driving. Seems easy around town, not the fastest off the line but perfectly adequate. So, there you go, it appears I quite like it.
  41. Found a new spot for watching the sunset last night (also spotted some excellent Rainbows)

  43. Hi Stewartv. Dont know about you but 'Ok Laura' seems a waste of time. I now manually input the destination. However to test I always enter areas in my familiar territory to check out the accuracy of the route. I regularly have to ignore and revert to my own local knowledge to avoid entering motorways in the wrong direction etc. I have checked and quadruple checked Navigation settings to eliminate user error but the only error is software or signal or both. Satnav announcement are drowned out by radio volume. Some times adjusting the Nav settings work, other times, not. I can not select miles over km so approaching turnoffs are displayed/announced in meters. I need to 'forget' then reconnect to bluetooth to use my phone all too often. If my phone IS available on the display I have to manually select it, often while driving. All told it is much easier to use Smartlink and Apple-play to use my phone. Siri is a blessed hands-free release from Laura. Following your theme, can it really be that Skoda is abandoning large numbers of buyers, who then tarnish the Skoda reputation of Skoda come car-sales upturn for the sake of a software upgrade? Might the answer lie alongside the attitude of holiday firms and airlines deferring refunds During Lockdown as a means of protecting their company from a downturn in operating revenue? As regards my mechanical woes - noisy clattery transmission - Owing to Lockdown can not get a technician to sit in with me to point out the obvious and they always report their own (brief) test drives as flawless. It IS a lovely car to drive, but will my not insurmountable issues ever be addressed within warranty? 🤔
  44. If you look at https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/current.php even though it says 20.12.0, the download link is for https://dltemp.ross-tech.com/VCDS/download/M38fad/VCDS-Release-20.12.0.1-Installer.exe
