  1. I serviced my wife's Citigo today, very satisfying because the dealers wanted £300 and it ended u costing around £65.00 in total. I did a mechanical apprenticeship many years ago but I'm a bit ring rusty working on cars, having had other priorities until very recently. I'm not used to working on modern cars so did a bit of research and asked a few questions on this forum, a couple of which were answered. I used Mann filters, having got the codes from the Mann Europe catalogue, as they seem to be well regarded. They looked identical to the VW filters I removed. The pollen filter was black through, the air filter looked pretty good, but all were replaced. The oil change and filters were easy, although for a few seconds I thought the oil filter was going to fight to the death before being removed. A chain wrench and a ring spanner for leverage got it moving. This was a relief because I've used the screwdriver and hammer method of removal before, but it creates some wicked sharp edges. My biggest worry was the spark plugs, and if I'm right the replacement intervals are 4 years. This is a 2017 car so I expected problems, based on the experiences of some others on this forum. However, they came out very easily. The coil packs came out by hand, no need for even tie wraps. There were traces of grease on the ceramic part of the plugs so that clearly works wonders for ease of removal. The plugs themselves were in a bit of a state and definitely ready for changing. The spark plugs are quite deep and I did not have a magnetic 16mm plug socket, but I do have a magnetic rod with a light on the end, bought for a couple of pounds from Ebay, which I think is even better, for removal and replacement of the plugs. the magnetic tip is just strong enough to allow the plugs to be tightened a few threads with the lightest of touch, which is necessary to avoid stripping the threads. If anyone is reluctant to service their cars because of the issues some people have had, i would say go for it. A charge of £300 for what I did today is ridiculous. ( I do have an inspection pit, which made a big difference , especially with changing the oil filter though. If you do your own, I would recommend some latex gloves, because used engine oil is a known carcinogen.
  2. Maybe because the added height makes access easier?
  3. My general thoughts on the subject of servicing my Skoda superb 2011 till 2019 as a taxi driver i bought this car brand new, serviced it as follows: every 10,000 miles air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, pollen filter and oil.. evry 85,000 miles cam shaft belt replaced, water pump every second camshaft belt, the results speak for themselves, car at 0 miles total mileage on car when i replaced it, it was at 433,000 miles with the same engine ,gearbox, Turbo, exhaust, glow plugs since the day i drove it out the dealers, due to the regional council the taxi cant be more than ten years old, hence the reason for replacement, new car is Skoda Super 3 , happy motoring.
  4. It was the sunset that kept on giving this evening........
  5. yipeeeeee Just drove it. Fab. Was getting 40-44 mpg without the turbo working for the past 9 months Now is getting 61mpg on the straight B roads and 52mpg going up scottish hils and windy roads and 30mph villages
  6. The 220 comes with a 16" spare from factory, wearing a 205/55R16, like this.... Mine normally wears factory 19s. I've recently put a full sized 19" as a spare.
  7. So had a look into why the speeds were down at Crail last time and it came down to a sticking calliper. Although i guess the fact that there was smoke coming from the drivers front brake after following a friends 415whp Starlet back home gave it away i guess it's expected though considering it's done 113k now. Had to paint it yellow to match the rest One of my friend's decide she was going up to practice drifting to Crail yesterday so decided to mix up some meth and have a trip up Managed to get a 0-60 in 5.82 seconds as well which is the 2nd fastest it's done. Best was a 13.856, with 3 runs in the 13's so becoming more consistant Vs a 595 vs 530D vs Golf GTi He stalled it on his first run though vs M235i
  8. Cascade of lights from (usually) failed rear ABS Sensor. Happened to me. Quite a lot here and on YOC from others who have had same experience. Problem occurs in other VAG models. AA checked fault codes at Mway Services, said brakes OK to drive until fixed - just no ABS. (phonecall to dealer confirmed safety issue). Worth reviewing your own fault codes first though, just to confirm. You may find that lights go out, only to come back on subsequently but then go out again on the way to the dealer to fix!
  9. As everyone else has a picture thread for each model, I thought we could have our own on here too. Photos to inspire, and share with other. Would like to see everyones Super B's (Superb for Gizmo) on here too! I'll start with my v6 4x4 Twindoor in Mocca Brown, with Ivory interior Standard so far, not quite sure what the plan is... I've owned it for about 8 weeks now, and I love it!
  10. I have been after a Dragon Skin Green Superb Sportline 280 hatch for some time and found 'the one' in deepest southernist England, then COVID happened and I had to wait and finally missed it. 11. Hello Fellow Briskodians hope you are all well! For those that don't know I had a little Suzuki Swift Sport as my Daily for the past 7 Months and before the Swift I had a MK1 Fabia VRS TDI for 3 Years which was a cracking Car, As time has gone on with the Swift I have never really got on with the 1.6 Revvy N/A Motor and have missed that effortless Driving Style that a Turbo Diesel offers. I have looked for something to replace the Swift with on and off for a few Months but was not 100% Sure what I really wanted, I have owned 2 x MK6 Golf R's in the past and really liked the MK6 Golf as a Car so began looking at the Market. As you can imagine there are a lot of MK6 Golf TDI's about however finding an example that would tick all my boxes proved a little difficult. I wanted... 2011/2012 Reg 2.0 TDI with the CR140 Engine 5 Doors Manual Gearbox Less than 80K Miles Full Service History (Not longlife) Well Looked after Cosmetically Grey or Red Colour With a few Toys fitted if possible I didn't want a GTD as I am going to be getting a Second Car as a Toy so my Daily doesn't really need to be anything too special but I still wanted a nice Car and didn't want a shed. I decided on either Match or GT Spec and depending on what came up first I would go for. I viewed 2 x Cars a couple of Weeks ago and neither were up-to my standards so I walked away. Then I spotted what looked like a nice example on Autotrader at a Small Independent Dealership in Tamworth, I sent a few Emails and asked all my usual questions and decided that it worth going to view so I had a Drive down in the Swift. First impressions were spot on, The Golf was well presented and had clearly been well looked after, I went for a little Test Drive and when I got back to the Dealer we discussed some figures and I did a Deal. The Golf was up at strong Money but I did feel it was worth it based on its Condition, Low Mileage, Full Service History & Spec. They took a real interest in the Suzuki too and made me such a good offer I ended up trading the Swift Sport in and basically it was a straight swap! Happy Days. The Car... MK6 Golf TDI in Match Spec 2.0 CR 140BHP Engine 2011/61 Plate 1 Previous Owner 50600 Miles Full Service History, 9 Stamps in the Book done every 12 Months Manual Gearbox United/Steel Grey The Car is also pretty well specced and has Full Leather with Heated Fronts, Cruise Control, RCD 510 DAB Head Unit with Bluetooth, Dual Zone Climate Control, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, Front Fogs, Folding Mirrors, Genuine Mudflaps, Genuine Boot Liner, 2 x Sets of Genuine Floor Mats Carpet & Rubber. The Dealership also put a fresh MOT on the Golf and also had an Oil & Filter Service Carried out with a Brake Fluid change too. I collected the Golf Yesterday Morning and drove it back to Sheffield from Tamworth, Within 10 Miles I instantly knew I had made the right decision and the Golf will be absolutely perfect for my needs as a Daily. I have cracked on an given the Golf its first Detail, Spent 3 Hours on it Yesterday after the Car had cooled Down and another 6 Hours Today so around 9 Hours in Total. Happy with how the Car has come out to be honest, Its not a Show Car but for a 9 Year old Golf its not bad. Still have a few Jobs left to do including Brake Caliper Paint, Replace the Centre Caps & Wheel Nut Covers on the Alloys as they are discoloured but that can wait until Next Week. What I did... 12. Hi, just joined this forum. I have a question about the front wings on my 2017 facelift Skoda Octavia. Does anyone know if the pre facelift front wings are the same? I am struggling to find a replacement for my car, and don't want to buy a pre facelift wing and find it doesn't fit. Any help would be appreciated.

Once the tracking is straight there really isn't anything else to be done, inner edge wear doesn't matter because it doesn't affect anything, as someone pointed out ALL models do it so don't feed the OCD trying to eliminate it.

No motorways in North Dorset. Toe out which will wear the inside edges faster. The original tyres were Nexen. I now have two Continentals as well. Thanks, AG Falco

You must be a competent mechanic to drop an engine in, so apart from the obvious, thermostat not opening, blocked radiator or airlock in the system, no.

Leave it as is if its your old dears car, If it was yours I'd strongly advise a RTMG ecu & tcu remap.
  19. we progressed from a Fabia estate to an Octy Estate and now a 5 seat Kodiaq... and still managed to fill the boot in the latter for a week's trip visit family in Belfast though (even with teenage kids so no small child paraphernalia!)
  20. Started to clean the engine bay of general custard today...it was absolutely filthy! I just used Screwfix's No nonsense degreaser from a spray bottle, applying to a microfibre towel rather than the bonnet directly. I also used a hog's hair detailing brush to work the degreaser into more awkward areas. Beginning of the clean; Half way through; The end (for now!); Sorry about the blurry final pic!
  21. My kids are 10 and 13, and its sometimes a struggle with a Superb estate! had to resort to a box trailer for holidays.
  22. I don't know about anyone else, but it's been really annoying here with dusty rain! We've not had much rain here recently, but any there has been seems to have picked up some of the Sahara! So both the Tig and Eunos washed - let's see how long they stay dust free.....
  23. Years ago a lady in a 3 series BMW coupe overtook me, stopped and threw her door open to get out. I smashed into it, writing off my frame and forks and smashing my helmet to pieces. Got pretty banged up in all honesty. Luckily she was reasonable and settled all my expenses and replaced the broken bike. She did claim she 'didn't see me' despite me being 6' and wearing a bright pink jersey. Funniest bit of it all is while I was sat with the ambulance people getting patched up, I watched her try to get her door back in the hole it came from, with little success :-)
  24. To add insult to injury the lobbyists in my country got implemented into law and have sucessfully resisted the repeal of legislation that makes it illegal to sell pattern parts for any safety related parts, only the manufacturers OE parts can be legaly sold and this is a god fearing country. Sounds reasonable until you find that they allow the sale of Chinese brake pads & discs but any bodywork including mirrors, indicators, bumpers, door handles etc have to be manufacturers parts Add on the stupid labour and body shop charges and its cheaper to drive the length of France into Belgium to have a ready painted wing, bumper or door mirror fitted than to buy a plain unpainted one from Ford or VAG to fit yourself, not just cheaper but less than half the price including painting and fitting.
  25. Make a priority of tracing and fixing the water leak before replacing the module!
  26. just thought i'd update this thread after so much messing around and going through this forum day and night reading random stuff, it turned out to be the can bus gateway it was wet cleaned it up, sealed it connected back up and boom fired instantly im looking for a new one now so this was defo the problem thanks

  29. Auto dimming. The mirror glass contains an electrolyte liquid so when current is applied it dims - controlled by the interior rvm's sensor. That's why it's so expensive, and there is no cheap alternative unless you fit plain heated mirror glass and lose the auto dimming. Still if you got the other guy's details / numberplate then tell your insurer and submit a claim against them. I learnt the hard way that 'door mirror jousting' isn't something to take lightly - all to easy to agree with other driver that it's just a bit of glass and a cheap/quick fix so no need for insurance claims. Then you get left with an £800 odd bill.
  30. DSG is short for Direktschaltgetriebe or Direct Shift Gearbox. VW's name for it's dual clutch automatic gearbox. Some variants of this require an oil change every 40k miles. If yours is a manual you don't need it.
  31. Given you would only need one slab sure. It looks to be even higher density full of glue and a mix of chopped up foams
  32. You can get pit liners. I’ve seen them with connections built into the side walls for power sockets and you can spec them with a rolling lift beam built in. The only thing is, for similar money you could just buy a scissor lift and have the use of the pit and the capability of lifting the entire car to remove wheels etc.
  33. Thanks Stevie. Unfortunately my tyres are pretty fresh so I am stuck with them for at least a year after which I will try to swap my alloys for a smaller diameter. I already did the boot, the B pillars and the two front doors over the weekend. I put Noico on the resonant panels and in the cavities I stuffed rolled carpet underlay with bags of rolled mineral cotton. The B Pillars are very easy and a very low hanging fruit. For the boot I uncovered the trim up to the rear wheel arches so it was a fair amount of work learning how to take everything out, a lot of surface to cover with butyl and to put it all back. There is really a lot to cover behind the trim, many flat thin metal panels. The doors are on the harder side for a first timer with all the clips and connector. After all this work I do hear a difference, the car isn't annoyingly loud anymore and I can much less hear the noise from the side, like the passing cars. Also conversation is now much easier. On a coarse stretch of an Irish Motorway I register around 73-74 decibel when driving 120km / h. Still too much for my liking. It's also clear that now nearly all the noise is coming from the floor and the wheel arches. Hopefully tomorrow I will have all materials to do the rear wheel arches from the outside and once this is done will be able to report on the improvement in decibels. I also managed to order the MLV and it should be with me in a week or two.
  34. The Columbus maps show traffic congestion and Laura even comes on to say traffic heavy ahead. I like it
  35. On my version page I only have what you have on your 4th line down - nothing else on the page. I've no idea what year sat nav I'm running so will have to make do!

  37. Hi, in Sweden maps are ok (though Google is better) but I love to have the Map on the virtual dashboard. I also have sign recognintion and together with HUD it works like a charm.
  38. presumably like this?
  39. Really important to fill the voids where the B pillar meets the cill with closed cell foam. We have two Superbs in the family and my wife's has the noticeably more noise at ear level than mine after sound proofing.
  40. Hi yeti99 I think we need to know a bit more about your car. "My skoda" isn't much to go on.
  41. @sQasim if I were in your position I would be looking at the forums of similar models (superb and octavia 2) to see if others have had the same problems. From memory I believe Eddie-NL (?) has suggested that Octavia 3 buttons don't work on Yetis ... don't quote me! The info is out there, Google is your friend
  42. The Golf is still going well, Now on 55600 Miles so I have only actually done 5000 Miles Since buying the Car in August 2020. I have had a few issues with the Alloy Wheels after having them Refurbished which I made a thread on for those that have not seen it... https://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=426460 They are getting Re-Done Tomorrow for the 3rd time using a different Batch of Powdercoat and Lacquer so that should sort it. My Activity on here and my input to both the Car and Motorbike Ownership Threads might not be as frequent going forward, We are expecting a Baby at the end of this Month and I don't think I will have the spare time between working Shifts to keep making a Blog and documenting everything I do. I intend to carry on looking after my Cars/Bikes to the same standard though! I am also thinking about selling the Golf for something a little Bigger and a bit Newer, A 2013-2016 Skoda Octavia is ticking all the right boxes and I have been looking for a good one now for a few Weeks. Would love a VRS Estate and in TSI/Petrol form too but we shall see. I will keep you all posted.
  43. if the oil meets the spec required, the brand plays a part only on the price really.
  44. if you press the right rotary switch on the steering wheel it changes "from start"- "long term"-"from last refueling"
  45. Job done. For future reference the bolt securing the check strap to the car is an M8 spline. The “hinge” swap was straightforward following the advice given earlier in this thread - a 13mm spanner/socket to undo both bolts and the door lifts up and off …anyone familiar with the pintles o.n the rudder of a sailing dingy should recognize the concept. I got a complete door, so did not have to swap the glass across, but with the harness cut at the hinge so I elected to unthread the harness out of the old door, which was not too difficult with the door card removed. Overall the biggest challenge was finding a door that vaguely matched…. thanks again to all who took the time to post
  46. To be fair mine had different error codes but very similar problems.
  47. Blimey, what a roller coaster ride I've been on since making my last post! After signing up to swap my L&K for a new Sportline I sat and waited for the dealer to come back to me to complete formalities. After a few days I'd heard nowt so contacted them by phone, left message for salesperson. Got an email back saying good news and bad news. Bad news is we can't get the car we'd sold you, good news is we've found another very similar spec but it'll cost you £50 per month more. You can imagine my reaction. Expressions of anger etc to dealer and complaint to Skoda UK got me nowhere so took my business elsewhere. Every dealer I rang said same thing, no new 280 sportlines to be had. However, the dealer nearest to me found one somewhere down south and thought they'd be able to do a swap, After biting my nails for the past 10 days I've today got confirmation its on its way and I will get the keys on Thursday! Its in Race Blue which wiill be a lovely change from the L&K. Keep watching the youtube video of the guy taking a a near identical one down the autobahn at night! It's been a tortuous couple of weeks and has stressed me out something rotten but thankfully it's come good at the end!
  48. I had similar problems and it turned out to be one of two things. One was joint cracks on the solder of the dash clocks and the other was the ignition switch, sorry can’t remember which one solved it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/febi-bilstein-38638-ignition-switch/dp/B00DZM7C9W/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=38638&qid=1621854578&sr=8-4
