  1. I think the issue is it's not just the cost of the petrol/diesel, otherwise I might not bother either. You have the fuel, which is 30-50% more vs public charging and massively more vs home charging. You have the road tax, and a painful first year tax, plus another tax for anything over 40k. Then you have congestion charges, which don't always apply to EV. Then you have pollution taxes (ULEZ), which don't apply to EV Then you have some cities which ban diesels from the city centre all together. Yes EV charging away from home isn't simple... but neither is going into a lot of towns our way any more either.
  2. Mine finally here! Had to compromise due to parts shortage
  3. I haven't been too active during the last months as things have been pretty busy both at work and at home on several levels, but I felt an update was long due and so here comes a last, much deserved write-up... PART 1 - ROAD TRIP After a few failed attempts, lot of hesitation and procrastination, during summer I finally managed to do the road-trip that I was longing for since I got the car and (as it turned out) the one every Superb is built for: nearly 5000km across Europe, all the way from southern Sweden to Greece and back What a trip that was. Blasting down Autobahn and other European highways with all comforts turned on, car staying planted and smooth even way over 200km/h that kilometers were disappearing so easily behind us in hundreds. First thing I realized driving a modern and gadget loaded car for such a long distance was that while I didn't actually lower my attention and focus on the road, that thought that IF something unexpected was to happen, the lane assist, the adaptive cruise, the emergency brake etc. would provide an extra safety net (as it happened once) took some of the mental stress off and allowed me and my co-pilot to do 1500km in just the first day and still get out of those wonderful SportLine seats around 23:00 without feeling exhausted or unable to continue by any means. I was truly blown away by the comfort at which we had travelled despite the fact we were keeping as high a pace as realistically possible. Originally the plan was to judge how the trip developed and plan the night's stop on the way but at 1000km we were both feeling quite fresh still, 1200km the same and so we continued to the next big city on our way clocking a nice and round 1500km on the trip odo in just 14:40hr of drive, around 3hr of which were stops and customs/borders controls. After that, the remaining 1000km seemed like a piece of cake the second day and so it proved to be. Another point worth mentioning: the car was tuned with REVO stage 2 map, loaded down to the last cubic cm in the boot (first time ever that I managed that), not running the recommended intercooler upgrade for stage 2, and was continuously accelerating to higher speeds when road conditions allowed (including a few top speed runs at the Autobahn) for 14 hrs and yet, it didn't miss a beat / ever go over 105 C / or act unusual in any way, what a testament to both the gen EA888 TSI and the optimization of the tune that REVO has accomplished 👏 As people who have been following my past threads know I was already a big fan of the car but upon completion of the trip, I realized I was really missing out a very important and impressive aspect of this car until that point, which was the way it can cover miles at such an astonishing (especially when price is taken into account) pace and comfort that one (myself included) would think is only appropriate of premium German sports saloons. In the end I was so thankful I went ahead with this plan for our vacation this year or I wouldn't have got to fully know my own car. Boot packed (literally) and ready to set off, there was stuff even in the spare wheel compartment... I s "Necessary" top speed limiter removal confirmation at some long and relatively empty Autobahn bit. The picture is so clear and steady it feels almost fake but it echoes what I mentioned about smoothness and high speed stability. I let off gas at that point but I swear it had some more yet to give, crazy all things considered... First night's stop. Consumption was closer to 9 - 9.2lt/100km before hitting some huge borders cues, which for our pace / power / weight I believe was incredibly good. Just stuff you can't do with an estate 😄 Part2 to follow...
  4. Thanks to you all. Freedie. Unfortunately the newer (mine's a 2017) don't have that reset option as you describe. Only INFO and BACK. I don't know anybody round here with VCDS but I'm still looking for ways to remove this service warning which is more of a nuisance than anything else as I physically document all my servicing, and have no intention of selling the vehicle anyway. So thank you all you guys for your help. If I DO come up with an answer to it, I'll post to help others. And finally JR... You know, for a retired 75 year old guy with the usual number of nasty life related injuries, both mental and physical, and a great interest in my servicing, I don't think I do so bad. So your life history is not relevant to me. Not in any way. It was just a personal attack. And all I asked, was a question........So please don't respond to me again. Thanks but I won't reply to you again. You'll understand one day. Be kind. Not confrontational.
  5. Interesting clouds this morning
  6. Do you think 7 years old is an age where batteries need replacing for first generation Nissan Leaf? It's about half the expected lifespan of a regular car, 15 years. I have a 2014 first-gen Leaf, it's still giving me more than 80% of its charging capacity. As long as the range is more than my wife's daily needs, I don't see any reason why it need to be replaced. Value of first generation EV will always be higher than similar age comparable cars for they rarer whilst tax and regulations close in on the more polluting ones. "The batteries will out last the car." is the general coconscious from those with more knowledge than me. https://www.nationalgrid.com/stories/journey-to-net-zero-stories/what-happens-old-electric-car-batteries
  7. True, but as there are now many Tesla and Nissan Leafs running around with 200K+ miles on them with still a useful range I don't think its a major issue. These real world examples show degradation is not steep nor renders the car an uneconomically short life. I believe the issue of batteries wearing out are no different to an engine (and gearbox) wearing out in a fossil car. After hundreds of thousands of miles, most cars are worthless and in need of expensive major component replacement.
  8. Any interest in me doing a build thread on here for my conversion of a citigo to up gti running gear? I know there’s not a lot of traffic in here anymore. But if a few people are genuinely interested I will start one. I know a lot of people ask about it but generally don’t go any further, I only know of one other running a gti engine but with original box, and no citigos as far as I’m aware, obviously with the exception of a few bigger engines going in them
  9. I'm a bit puzzled as to why a lack of paintcode would delay an estimate? And to be honest any paintshop who takes a paintcode from someone written on the back of a fag packet needs shot. And I'm not sure what this "I use local dealer" business is all about - are we talking about the local Skoda dealer? Dealerships don't paint cars, they put them out to the same 3rd party repair shops that everyone uses, the only difference being the dealership will add a % on to the bill for doing so. Professional paint shops won't need a colour code as they make the colour themselves. Think about it, if you take two extremes, the colour of a 1 month old Velvet Red car will be very different to the colour of a well weathered 15yr old Velvet Red car, but a professional paintshop will match each colour exactly. These days a special camera will take an image of the paint and the computer will select the correct amount of colour to mix. The pigment they used at the factory may well be different from the pigment they use at the bodyshop so it's never going to be an exact match. Skilled professionals will get as near as damned to that colour using little more than their eye, what marks out a highly skilled professional is their ability to blend the new colour to the colour already on the car. My father was a bodyshop painter for 37years and it's quite incredible what they can see with the naked eye. No need for paint depth measurement tools or anything like that when looking for accident damage, he can tell straight away where a car has been re-painted. Ps - As for touch-up paints... wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. It's impossible for the colour to be an exact match, more than often it's nowhere near the same colour. Only advantage of a touch-up is to prevent the metal rusting. And as for companies like Chipsaway - it really comes down to the skill of the person, some good reviews, some awful reviews, but honestly... they paint the car in the open air with dust particles and everything else to contaminate the work? If folk are happy with it then great - it's a quick solution, but come on - it's a bit tacky compared to having the work done in a proper paintshop.
  10. @TrevorB33 your build threads ae always s good read so yes... Interested!
  11. Our mileage on both cars has plummeted significantly since March 2020. Kodiaq down 40% on annual basis. Polo down almost 50%. Changes in family circumstances. Lockdown preventing travel. Various reasons. I’ve read most of the above with interest and agree that an EV car could replace car No.2 as I know it rarely travels more than 100 in a day. Actually it’s only exceeded 100 miles on 2 days. Doesn’t mean it’s back tucked up at home. But home charging could work for a second car. But car No.1 has to be able to go anywhere anytime. It’s not Range Anxiety. It’s “refuelling anxiety” as mentioned above. And I think the “free charging”. Free this. Free that is all smoke and mirrors. As for “all so green in the garden”. Are we remembering how batteries are made? And disposed of. Hybrid will be a no-no for me. Lugging 1/4 ton (ish) of extra baggage with a puny little pony engine ain’t happening.
  12. Tying in with this. My mother's Dacia Duster was in the region 11 grand (pre-reg 1.0 turbo Comfort) in September 2020 and was the upper limit of what she could afford, even on hire purchase as our Toyota Auris had too many things wrong with it for us to want to pour money into it. My car was £1,400 in March of this year (56 plate Ambiente 1200), being as much as I could afford. I'm in a single parent household and I have one sibling. These are the best we could get for whatever money we had. Now, I don't know if I'm "most households", but I'm still a statistic somewhere, no doubt about that. Now anyway, it's just my experience. You (the reader, not the person I'm replying to) may have a different experience, and that's alright. I just thought I'd share my two pence etc. Side note: if you can read that, then good, I've had a busy day so stringing sentences together is involving a lot of effort.
  13. So you're expecting someone to trawl through the different suppliers sites and then tell you what to buy ??
  14. The stewards IMHO seem to have a 'blind spot' regarding Verstappen but have 20:20 vision regarding Hamilton. I'm increasing seeing Verstappen in the same vein as Michael Schumacher - a brilliant driver who feels the need to cheat - which saddens me as anyone that doesn't win the title World Champion in a fair fight isn't worthy of that title IMHO.
  15. Pete's service is highly recommended! Our 2007 Roomster suffered from intermittent windows for approx. 2 years. Dealers could not find the problem. It's not easy to diagnose the faulty Drivers side motor as defective door-looms and switches may show similar symptoms. Problem was, the 'dead' windows would work if both sides are disconnected, left a while and re-connected. Then they work until the ignition is switched off for a period of time. After that, they are 'dead' again. If window-switches and door-looms are confirmed OK (and they are cheap + easy to change) then the drivers side motorcontrol-module almost certainly needs repair. As Pete says, other VW group vehicles from this period, e.g. Polo, Transporter use the same motors and are similarly affected. I sent the suspect motor to Pete who immediately confirmed it was defective, did the repair work and put it on test. Within days I had the repaired motor back in place, both window functions restored immediately (just needing to reset the 'one-touch' function). Congratulations to Pete who persevered to research and resolve this common fault, making a repair economically effective (other option is a replacement motor, around the eyewatering £200, only from Skoda / VAG dealers). The great bonus is that a perfectly good motor unit does not need to be thrown away because of a repairable module fault. Well done Pete. Highly recommended, and a very knowledgeable and valuable member of the Skoda community.
  16. I'd be interested for sure. I let my Citigo sport go in 2016, but have just bought a 17 plate Monte Carlo for my niece and forgotten just how much fun it was to drive. Would definitely read your thread.
  17. Depends on your perspective whether that's a good or a bad thing. For a lot of people today, purchase price is a significant barrier to EV ownership, and in some of those cases (like mine) range is almost irrelevant; my daily commute is only 5 miles each way. I can/will slow charge at home without any cost other than the leccy. I'll never spend tens of thousands on a new car of any type, but I will buy 'end of life' cars that I know I can maintain cheaply myself. Just depends where your financial priorities lie. Horses for courses.
  18. Huge wheels with rubber bands,a victory for style over substance.
  19. Correct. If you doubt my logic, then, in moderate weather, do these things:- Start the engine, drive off, and keep a note of how long the engine takes to reach normal operating temperature. Start the engine and leave idling until it reaches normal operating temperature. See how much faster (1) was?
  20. Mine seems set to variable servicing, as it's four months old yet the car tells me it is not due to be serviced for another 540 days or something, sounds like yours is the same. My local dealership when I purchased a two-year service plan, told me nah just bring it in after twelve months as standard, again sounds like yours! My car came from elsewhere in the country incidentally. There seem to be so many differing opinions on service schedules that I do basically intend ringing them at the 12 month point to book it in, and if they raise a query re the service schedule I'll deal with it then. I would have any car serviced every 12 months anyway. The manual for my model for the service schedule states only: If the vehicle detects that a service visit is necessary, it will automatically send this information to the service partner of your choice. The service partner will then contact you and schedule the service visit with you. Hence why I will ring them at the 12 month stage, will mention the days remaining to service as quoted by the car at that point, and take it from there. As with many things from the Skoda manuals, this is another area that is as clear as mud.
  21. another thing that people dont realise with ev and you dont hear mentioned, is the batteries degrading all batteries degrade, my laptop battery, my golf trolley battery , my power tool batteries all dont last as long as they did when new. so if a new ev battery gives 200 mile range when new, after a few years that's going to drop and along with the drop in cold weather, you might be getting less than half the range of new when ev's get to an age where expensive batteries are neeeding replaced, there valve will drop like a stone
  22. Indeed - that is probably the 'best' looking BMW at the moment (bearing in mind it's still not what I'd call elegant but is at least not as horrendously ugly as the rest of the range). I guess the designers laid off the wacky baccy when they did the 2 series...
  23. Find a forum member nearby that can use their VCDS on your car for a beer token or two? https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=209732397261666218585.0004c66cecde3f435ecb4&msa=0
  24. At least the grilles look to be of a better size IMO. The thought of the massive grilles remind me of this... Anyway...
  25. Yeah going to go have another look at it I think. Been looking at a few videos and it sounds like most of the engines sound a bit like a sewing machine!
  26. It helps more than a wee bit. Thankyou 😃
  27. Ah okay I get you, i know I probably would and that briskey is not like it used to be, but I do like it here Great cheers, I just miss half my stuff I do on there haha
  28. Oh that is some good news, guess the manufacturing of chips went 100% in Malasia so it looks to be giving it a boost. I have not heard anything atm from my dealer so i hope a lot you are right and i will receive it still this year.
  29. ev cars are still too expensive to buy /lease for most households though, even with the so called incentives , and what about the small matter of government fuel duty loses. the official figure is 58% plus vat, personally i think they will already have plans in place to re-coup this loss one things for sure, you aint getting away with it 😂
  30. Okay, I don't have a Mk2, but I have a Mk1 and I can have a stab at answering your questions... The "1" is the base specification model. "2" being midrange and "3" being the highest of the pre-FL Mk2 Fabias. Aye that'd be a reasonable car for yourself, partner, and child. Mine can hold 4 adults and their paraphernalia easily. I can't vouch for these engines but I reckon it'll be nippier than my 64hp 1.2. MPG should be reasonable IMO. Solid little things. Haven't had much issues with crosswinds in mine to be honest, and as yours would have a heavier engine etc. That's a bit expensive IMHO given the lack of recent service (MOT doesn't equal a service), mileage, and the driver's window problem. I'd look elsewhere in that regard. Auxiliary cable area should be down by handbrake IIRC. I don't know what this engine is meant to sound like, an owner may be able to provide more insight. I highly doubt it, especially if it's a Fabia "1". You'd probably need a Mk3 Fabia with the correct options for that. Hope that helps a wee bit.
  31. Do it. You'll probably pull some traffic in here (like me, funnily enough).

Well a cheapo FM/Bluetooth device arrived today from eBay and it works a dream.
  33. Well, i have had my webasto cut out short of the 30mins its set to, due to battery management, so nothing to worry about, the car will manage itself!
  34. Great idea, but you'll get far more ideas from the Up! owners forum. And don't forget GTI's have bigger front disks. An alternative is to get the TSi engine and change the map.

About 1% extra with a pipercross panel filter, 245 made 298bhp with superchips map and 302bhp with map and filter. Hardly earth shattering but as I keep cars a few years I think a cleanable filter is a good option anyway. I was pleased to scrape over the 300 mark, but to be honest it's difficult getting the power down until 3rd gear anyway. I've kept the original paper filter to stick it in if I need to while the panel filter dries after a clean, but on my last 2 cars I've just cleaned them on a hot day and they dry in the sun pretty fast anyway. It did make me wonder how a 1% gain in a 60bhp Corsa or something would feel.

Hi, I will post afternoon. Regarding power, torque, car lock - simple, only change off to on, but vrs cluster need to change more parameters
  37. 1 point
so many posts on this one and has been covered many times - have a look through some of the old posts. Not even engine or car specific - aftermarket air filters and their pros / cons - must have been discussed on every car forum ive been on.
  38. When the camera is on, at the upper right there's a settings button. Set brightness to the max and contrast to the minimum. It will get much much better at low light.
  39. I'm pretty sure the pump noise is an electric coolant pump to keep it circulating for a bit after the engines stopped. . . With ambient temperatures on the way down at this time of year, maby its not needed? I'm sure mine has not made the pump noise a few times when I've switched off, I've just never really thought anymore about it.
  40. I think you might be overthinking things; light throttle, no labouring, it will depend on the terrain and your desired acceleration.
  41. The best way to warm an engine is to drive the car. Idling slows warm-up, and potentially washes the bores with petrol.
  42. Well, I've been busy... New windscreen: A trip to the tip with some things: And a milestone: Finally, just a photograph of the car: This will probably be the last update for a wee while (probably a lie, but okay), or at least until I've got some more bits to fit...
  43. For those of you who are interested in Advanced package. Here You go, enjoy! I think this is a big step up when it comes to standard equipment. When You think of the previous very social Active package.
  44. Try East Yorkshire retro fit solutions, I've red nothing but REALLY good things. Mine is booked in next month for the reversing camera. I believe just about all their work is exactly as it would have been if installed at the factory.
  45. Payback time. Months after RBs retrospective protest at the Silverstone incident steward's decision, Mercedes have done the same over the Brazil turn 4 incident, aiming to get a penalty for Verstappen.
  46. An older video and another one compared with a Scan gauge.

Only on certain roads where it is indicated, whilst the legislation does list 48 departements where it could be applied to individual roads many of them have not implemented it anywhere.
  48. Having attained the notable three score years and ten I decided to treat myself and move to the dark side (Beemer, since you ask!) so time to sign off from this forum. I've not been a prolific poster as I was new to Skoda and joined to learn but have been an avid reader over the past couple of years There are so many knowledgeable posters that every day has been a school day and compared to some forums very little "willy waving" or needless arguments. Whenever I've raised any queries the replies have always been helpful and friendly even though sometimes the questions have perhaps been a bit dumb! So can I wish you all the very best for the future and thank those who've offered help, like SachaGrace with coding, I'm sure this forum will continue to go from strength to strength. As for the Skoda Superb, good name because it really is a hell of a lot of car for the money. Why anyone would buy a VW instead of Skoda puzzles me? I tested an Audi A6 Avant Quattro before deciding on the 5 series touring and the layout was so similar I thought it was really just a more upmarket Superb, quite a bit upmarket but too similar to tempt me (although it did go like **** off a wet shovel compared to the 1.5 petrol!!). Overall the Superb is a very relaxing car to drive with a hell of a lot to commend it and very little to condemn it. Little touches like the hooks in the boot (they must cost about thre'pence each!) that stop your shopping being all over floor when you get home are helpful things other makers would do well to copy. Only real PITA was that if you set up an individual driving style you have to switch to it every start up, particularly on a multi stop journey. Real first world problem that, so really enjoyed my time with Skoda and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Off to find a beemer forum that I only hope is as knowledgeable and helpful as this one. 👋 Cheerio.
  49. Here is a little preview for you in 4K. Unfortunately didn’t have the key for the car, but infotainment doesn’t have any real changes so not a big lose there. I love the new Facelift! But they cheapen out on the materials in the rear, damn VAG politics. Enjoy!
  50. May also be the motor inside the passenger side lock unit. When you unlock the car with the key in that door, it doesn't need to do anything. When you unlock from the other side it does need to work. It's not very easy to get into, but on a Polo of mine, cleaning the commutator brought this one back to working properly.
