  2. Adding this info to the thread as this thread comes fairly well up the google results when searching 6Y2959802: Some part numbering info that I have recently, I think, understood. There is much more info on this label than just in the 9-digit VW group part number at the top of the label. The key thing to note about that 6Yx95980x number is that on passenger side modules, the 3rd and 9th digit are always different, on driver's side modules they are always the same. You need a driver's side module on the driver's side! It's the master in the system. Suffix A (on this 6Y... series) after the 9th digit indicates a module made for a car with all four windows electric With reference to this photo, and the colour coding I've added to the bottom line, here is my best understanding so far of what this info means, and most or all of the variants you may see. The green box identifies the brand the module was made/programmed for. Always either SK for Skoda, or VW for Volkswagen. The three-numeral section underlined in orange is model identification. 240 for VW Polo and Skoda Fabia Mk1; 250 for Skoda Fabia Mk2, 258 for Skoda Roomster, and 750 for VW Transporter. The two letters underlined in blue are always either DD or PD. As far as I can see this always means Driver's Door and Passenger Door respectively. There may be a numeral 2 or 4 in between these two letters, 4 meaning all four windows are electric. Not sure what 2 indicates, it's often omitted as in the above photo. Might only appear on early examples. The last two characters underlined in red (RS or LS) indicate whether the module was made for a Right-Hand Drive car or Left-Hand Drive. "Right Steering" or "Left Steering" Hope this proves useful, comments welcome. Cheers, Pete
  3. Quite a noisy photo, but I like it all the same.
  4. I would never recommend that someone NOT change their brake and clutch fluid because it makes such a difference to the efficiency of the system.
  5. As you can see, the last bodge (I hope) is finally sorted, wires wrapped together, wrong colour twisted together... Messy New loom, new rad, new sensors, new parking loom, new plumbing for washer jets... New bumper, new front end practically... But now. Looking like we're fixed!
  6. Thanks Lee. I suppose a missing 'executive summary' is that if you want one for a RHD mk1 Fabia, where the existing unit will have SK240DDRS as that bottom line of the label, get one that says exactly the same there, as well as the main 6Y2959802 part number. For LHD mk1 Fabia you'll want a 6Y1959801 instead, with SK240DDLS as that line. In both cases this only applies to later cars from approx July 2004 onwards, earlier cars will have parts with numbers starting 6Q, which have connector/wiring/functional/comms protocol differences that make them non-interchangeable.

It's a space saver, inflation pressure is moulded into the sidewall.
  8. 2 points
From memory, I think you may find an inflation pressure moulded into the sidewall. Is there anything on the pressure chart in the fuel filler cover.
  9. A few from the museum of flight. Current events certainly make you look at the exhibits in a different light.
  10. The non remote key will still need the immob chip programming to match the cars immob unit, Timpsons say they can do this for most cars, I enquired about 5 years ago and it was going to be around £50 still a lot cheaper than the main stealership but in the end I got a key cut from an eBay seller £10 and a virgin chip £5 then with VagTacho pulled the PIN code from the immob and with VCDS programmed the chip myself
  11. This is normal as when you jack the bodywork up the suspension just hangs down and the spring has expanded, when you put the car onto the ground the wkole weight pushes the spring and slightly compresses the spring and the top rubber mount allowing the strut rod to go a little higher, if it was moving 10mm or more then i would worry but this is fine , you can check the top mount buy jacking up the car and supporting the weight of the car then put the jack under the suspension arm near the bottom ball joint and slightly jack up the strut just enough to take the weight of the strut and then you can push/pull the strut end from the top and see if you have any movement in the bush, these can be replaced if needed, on some cars you needed to clamp the coil spring before jackinng upthe car by the bodywork i would not worry about this seems normal to me just perhaps uou have not noticed it before

Update: we were given a courtesy car last Monday and my wife contacted Skoda U.K. customer service. Today we have found out that Skoda are covering the full cost of replacement. My wife is a badass money saving expert lol.
  13. I don't know if I've posted this one before, but here's one from a few years back.

If you have a space saver spare then the pressure should be very high about 65 psi.
  15. Astromode on a Pixel 3a. It autodetected the tripod and did a 56 second exposure!
  16. Who cares how old the tyre is, it's been sitting in the boot in the pitch black its entire life, it'll be like new.
  17. No need to book car into garage just check the brake fluid level with the car on the flat, there's a higher and lower level marker to guide you, DOT 4 brake fluid to top up if needed,, if level is ok the cap with the 2 wires on might be faulty or need cleaningor even be loose check these and give them a clean a dab of silcone grease on the spades helps keep them free from corrosion also check wheels as a friend who had his brakes changed at a garage was loosing fluid from 2 bleed nipples that had been undone when brakes were changed but not tightened up enough when finished
  18. The bolt on the top of the strut changes height depending on if the car is on the ground or lifted of the wheels. Car on jacks: Car on the ground: The bolt protrudes approximately 1mm further up if the car is supporting itself. I even took the strut out and rebuilt it and checked all torqued bolts, all is as it should be as far as i can tell.
  19. Highly doubt an 08 Mk2 Fabia will have TPMS on it.
  20. I think you're right.
  21. May be worth getting it scanned with a VAG compatible OBD2 scanner to have a clean bill of health as a starting point of new ownership given the thorough service.
  22. You are forgetting something, the price Skoda charge the dealer is only held for a certain time. So as example (using round numbers for example, not real prices). Suppose a car has list price of £33k but you got discount and were paying £30k. And Skoda charging dealer £29k. So dealer would have made £1k profit. Now let’s assume in 2022 Skoda now want £31k (a price rise of £2k), so now dealer won’t be very keen on selling to you at £30k as now losing on deal, but as prices have risen (and discounts fallen), might be able to sell it to someone else for nearer £33-34k. (As £2k price rise means list price is now £35k) The manufacturer, Skoda, has little incentive to supply a car to a dealer and get paid £29k, when they could build a later one and get paid £31k You will see it is in everyone’s interest (except final customer) to sell to those paying more, because price has gone up, and leave others with old lower price waiting, hoping they eventually cancel. Just in case you were thinking doesn’t sound very moral or ethical to dump those waiting ages, they are probably already upset, so why upset a newer customer and have two upset customers instead of one. So seems to me if you are in the unfortunate group with old lower price, and no sign of building the car, then could still be in same position in few months time. If can’t fulfill current orders then what incentive is there to clear the old backlog when over time many will be cancelled eventually.
  23. forgot to respond, thanks all the advice worked 👍
  24. Looks rather nice in that guise. Makes me want one.
  25. Agree with @DB72 regarding the lack of bolster support. They also seem higher in the L&K, even at the lowest setting. In saying that, I was in the same position only with an iV. I choose the L&K - I only regret it when I see a dragon green sportline. Incidentally the L&K also gets the Sportline front bumper
  26. Nice detective work, Pete. Very handy info 👍
  27. It's not that critical, just pump it up until it doesn't look 'soft' and squidged at the bottom. How long do you plan to drive around on it? Surely only 'til the normal tyre is repaired or replaced? A day or two?
  28. If you currently have an Octavia VRS and were planning to get a Superb Sportline, I would recommend making absolutely sure you are happy with the amount of side bolstering you'd get from the seat back of the L&K versus the Sportline. I find myself too narrow to get much lateral restraint from the leather seat backs and wish I'd got a Sportline because the seats hug you better in those.
  29. The procedure is shown in this http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer Gen 2 Immob http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer_II_Key_Matching_(Cluster) You will need VagTacho or VagCommander to get the 4 digit PIN to be able to use the shown method
  30. Yes, the multi point is a 12 point so a 6 cornered allen key may just drop part way in but not engage fully/correctly to transmit sufficient torque.
  31. This is true, prior to them having their tongues cut out Skoda chat confirmed that the order had been switched over to a facelift model.
  32. Hello Don I did similar with my V6 Superb, which started to get signs of starting issues. Reckoned to most likely be the glowplugs, so I bought a set of six and put them in the glove box. It seemed the threat was enough to resolve the starting problems. Gaz
  33. Hello HMT Nice looking Mk2 FL Gaz
  34. @froggy8 what size is the spare, something like 185/60 r 15? Store in the car over inflated and when fitted drop to maybe 40 ps. Still reduce your speed when fitted even if no sticker on the wheel telling you to.
  35. I would also recommend updating to an Android unit for which you do not need to spend a large amount on top of a 2nd hand Dance - typ below - which will allow additional functions such as Sat Nav, storing music onboard instead of using CD's, DAB with units that can be connected via USB, Bluetooth for hands free, and even reversing camera's. Be aware that there are units with Windows CE as the operating system which appear to not offer the same options so possibly steer clear of these but not always easy to identify in advert spec. A facia may be required and addition wiring converter cable. Double DIN 7" Android 10.1 Car Stereo GPS Navi MP5 Radio Player 2+16GB UK- | eBay The one below does not mention operating system, but I would think Windows CE even while mentioning Android in the title - probably only Android phone connection. 1x 7" Double Din Car Stereo with Carplay Android Auto MP5 Player Radio+Camera | eBay
  36. Why do you think the pressure should be lower just because the wheel is smaller? It doesn't seem logical to me though I don't know for sure. With tyre inflation I would err on the side of over rather than under inflation, so would agree with Sepulchrave who replied just now while I was typing. Probably a good idea to get a proper wheel and tyre fitted a.s.a.p.
  37. @lol-lolBetter efficiency on 60 mph coastal roads in windy conditions but the temp getting towards the teens. Still with a hot battery it takes 80 minutes to get in near 32 kWh to take the battery to 99%.
  38. As Wino states, we either need a photo of the plug or confirmation from below regarding the type of plug fitted as I an quite sure that a hexagon will fit into the star type, but the security feature requires a hollow in the tool to allow full engagement - a hex would have minimal engagement due to the pip in the bottom of the plug. Regarding torque values (believe text is wrong and one should be with serrations, one without) this will be based on either the type of drive fitted as the star type will transmit more torque so possibly the hexagon type cannot fully transmit the full torque required but the amount possible is suitable, the actual thread size may differ, or there could be a different seating. VW engineer products so would not change things without good reason.
  39. Are you sure the problem isn't to do with the magnetic pick up rings on the back of the bearings? They could be caked in crap? Though it will mean taking the rear hubs off to have a look.

One of my favorite phrases is people see what they want to see, believe what they want to believe and never let facts get in the way. Another one is the grass is always greener on the other side of the hill. All manufacturers are in the same boat, ( hopefully not the car transporter boat that caught fire off Portugal ! ) If you go over to Toyota Owners Club, you will see customers conversing with Toyota UK - just like we do with Skoda Customer services, the only difference is their conversation is open for everyone to see. Owners are waiting exactly the same as other manufacturers - depends on what car / spec you order as to how long you have to wait. To quote the very last convesation ( to date ) as a typical example: William - 21st Feb 2022: Wished I had read this before ordering toyota yaris excel hybrid. I ordered Jan 14, 2022. From what I was told, June or July at the latest. Steve just said November it should arrive. I don’t want to wait that long. How do I cancel my order and get my deposit back? This week, the UK is ending its covid restrictions. Will toyota’s be built faster? Toyota UK - 22nd Feb 2022: Hi William,Thanks for your comment. Like many other businesses, the extended delivery times are due to delays in our global supply chain, not just the UK. Please be assured we are doing everything we can to deliver our vehicles as quickly as possible. However, we would recommend discussing the available options with your Toyota Centre. Thanks. So with all due respect, comments such as "the turn around on Toyotas is less than 4 months" is just fake news. Everyone is having problems.
  41. This mornings singer
  42. Probably damaged wiring between the driver's door and the A-pillar, a pretty common problem. The driver's door has the master controller for central locking, electric windows and wing mirrors, so damage to the wiring there has wide ranging behaviour.
  43. Read down from this post. Known issue with 7zip on the Skoda site. You can use the built in unzipped in Windows Filemanager or use the VW download with 7zip. Skoda changed their compression software so it throws up errors on 7zip since they use variable levels of compression. The built in Windows tool is more accepting. MartiniB uses another tool as he says. It then comes up latter in the thread with naysayers checked it again and posted up the analysis. Probably best to still to the VW download that MartiniB posted at the top of the thread with 7zip or use the Filemanager build in one. See also this link. Two images. If you use the Skoda file, open as that example that uses the built in Windows unzipped, right click. Second image if VW file, open with 7zip. Zip files, sit on it. Right click, Click Windows Explorer... that's the built in one which comes free with Windows, it does the job. Drag and drop to a directory you created for it. Then copy all of that onto a blank SD card, fat32, 32gb. No issues. Posted that up before when people got confused. Basically Skoda are zipping the files in a way that 7zip throws up errors but we knew that at the start of the thread. So we don't use 7zip on them but use the Windows built in method. No issues or in MartiniB's case his favourite unzipping software 😉.
  44. Good luck. If I were you, I would reason with the dealer along the lines of: This car was sold twice by you & only ever serviced by you Timing chain problems are a very well-known issue on this engine You complained about a "noisy startup" to them in the past, which you have now learned is a key symptom of timing chain issues Timing chains don't suddenly go bad overnight, usually the symptoms develop over time and you had been mentioning the noisy startups to them since 2017! They had several service opportunities during which they could have picked it up but didn't You expect better more pro-active service experience from them given they are a main-deleter and supposed to be the experts Probably unlikely they are going to cover the entire bill for a car of this age/mileage - but they should make a significant contribution

Is this 4 months by experience or dealer talk? Also Toyota doesn't offer much wanted cars at the moment IMO. Not much PHEV's for everyday use (Prius is small) and first EV is still coming. Also this ordering process varies much per dealer. Looks like there is alot of difference in Skoda dealers. Some of you have no information about the car, and some have. There's alot of Skoda's ordered. I bet that with larger dealers the order book is quite big, and reporting everything to customers would definetely require more workers to keep track of them all.
  46. Fixed my charging. Used new, extra 170A cable. One side fixed to frame where a rubber bush for the plastic lid is (see picture) and another end straight to battery. Charging from 13.2v jumped to 14.5v. With full load 14.1v. Brilliant. Love you guys.
  47. I got a full set of (arguably rarer) Mk1 fabia sport seats, in decent nick for 100 euro. Its hard to find decent vRS seats but would be even harder finding someone to buy them. I see a fair few rough sets of vRS seats up around the £80-100 mark but I don't see them sell. I'd say clean vRS' are hard found already, especially in the south.
  48. Aight enough faffing around, made this monstrosity. Bottom plate is 74mm, 2 pieces of wood on the head under the "ears" and spin to win, liner comes out without a hitch. I'm going to cut the disk into a pill shape so it doesn't interfere with the block and it's going to be golden
