  5. That's not where your cat is, that's just two bits of exhaust that have come disconnected. No idea how, you normally couldn't separate them if you tried
  6. Sounds like a load of rubbish to me. Doesn’t make any sense, even if they were jacking all four corners on a lift and wanted to rotate the wheels, would just manually use switch to turn of brake and leave gearbox in neutral Normally would stop the car, apply handbrake, turn off, and put it in park. Everyone I know that changes a wheel due to a puncture or does summer-winter wheel swaps releases the nuts about half a turn before jacking, not aiming to wrench the nuts hoping brake holds wheel.
  7. Nice day outside so I got the indicator stalk done. Main beam now flashes again 👍 Airbag light was on afterwards so had to erase the code. Stalk was quite a bargain at £16.90 for a Meyle one.

  9. Haha, I found my first ever radio cassette! Hitachi TRK 5030. lots of very happy memories https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/268289766/1975-hitachi-portable-radio-trk-5030e?show_sold_out_detail=1&ref=nla_listing_details
  10. Well ! That initial question of mine has apparently opened a can of worms. My car is a petrol hatchback with a manual gearbox. I have pressed the "A" button to the left of the "P" button and the missing functionality [ i.e the automatic application of the electronic handbrake ] has returned. Taa Dah ! Thanks to all for their help, I must have inadvertently switched off the "A" button
  11. A bit of the wildlife we spotted today
  12. Scary. On every new to me vehicle whether new or second hand I check the oil level every week, if after a decent period no discernable loss shows and if the vehicle has a low oil level warning system like my Skodas have all had then I will leave it to do its job but every time the bonnet gets opened all the fluid levels get checked despite them all having low fluid warning systems, I also check those systems with VCDS and also manually where possible like removing the brake fluid reservoir cap. I check all my tyre pressures religiously once a week and the treads visually more frequently, this has at the least saved me from having to replace repairable tyres (screws/nails in tread, bead leaks) and at worst from causing an accident. The above was considered essential responsable behaviour when I started driving, I realise that times have changed but the dangers havn't, when I see insouciance expressed in that way I do find it scary.
  13. Convinced VW use the same one for every car in the range, even the one in a 2016 touareg looks the same as the one in my 2001 fabia
  14. I pick my new one up tomorrow, I received a photo from the dealer with it all covered up under a car cover!
  15. You might need Android Auto activating. I had the Smartlink Menu option, but it didn't work until I had Android Auto activated at a dealer. That was on a 2015 car.

  18. They sound like a bunch of incompetents ! I hope they didn't jack it up on the sills. All 4 corners are bent on mine ! 😞
  19. Could you fly and operate your sphincter muscles at the same time? 🤣 That said seagulls have mastered the art and are more proficient at hitting their target than the 633 squadron!

The ECU's are set to transit mode which I believe reduces all parasitic losses, the vehicle has to be opened using the key and only when the ignition is switched on will current be drawn. Thats my understanding from reading the VCDS description of the function. When I buy a new battery it may have been standing for 6 months, they never have a full charge as delivered.

  22. Much as already talk to my Amazon Alexa system I can imagine doing this to my autonomous self driving car ie get home at say midnight and "tell" the car to do off and charge itself and be back for 0800 in the morning for the next drive to the new destination. I would like 3 phase where I am and I understand from other posters on this topic that there is probably 3 phase wires only a few metres from my front door and a 22 kWh charger would be plenty I reckon for home us for the foreseeable future. EVs will try and and go further with similar batteries I reckon, we need to see more EVs with drag coefficients around the 0.2 Cd rather than 0.3 and they need to lose about quarter to half a tonne in weight by lighter batteries and lighter chassis. Audi built the A2 out of aluminium, disaster as it was, but just wish somebody else would move away from steel and adopt more aluminium, carbon or whatever to reduce the weights of these vehicle. My Zoe does not like hills due to its 1.6 tonne unladen weight, loves harvesting the kinetic energy on the way down though. As looking forward to battery block one could carry if one was doing a longer journey and/or to obscure places, like this...
  23. Identical spec and colour to mine ordered 6 months earlier and I still don't have a build week, as I've said previously there isn't any sort of conspiracy it just seems that Skoda are totally incompetent.
  24. I know how many people have fallen for that and got new tyres when they didn't need them just to get money out of them. There are a lot of elderly people who have retired here is this area who probably have. I certainly won't be going back there again. I will stick to going to Fakenham area where I have always gone.
  25. That's exactly what I mean; if they're trying to condemn tyres based on age and not wear or condition, what other stories are they making up?
  26. I would always change the console bushes for PU as it's a huge improvement in handling, the rest are not really worth bothering with.
  27. Make sure the cable is a good quality one. Make sure you have the data mode set correctly on the phone. Make sure your phone actually supports Android auto. A Huawei may not with the shenanigans with trump stopping Google access. Maybe find a friend who has it working on their car and try your phone in it and get them to try their phone in your car.
  28. See, one like that, AKA EV version of petrol-station, need to be as ubiquitous as petrol stations to enable use-cases like Ms Elanore. It is possible with today's battery technology: go there for a quick top up like visiting petrol station, 10min to over 50%. Go home to slow charge while sleeping, to 100%. If all petrol stations, overnight, replaced half of their pump with rapid chargers (and battery for reduced grid load, like Gridserve). It would instantly solve the infrastructure problem and open up EV as an option for almost everyone. For second EV, or become NICE family (no internal combustion engine ), really really need a dependable infrastructure when away from home.
  29. @TankTankBoom Yes, your car does have Lane assist, pictured on the pictures of the dash, on top to the right, there is a road symbol, as well as on the pictures of the front, you can see the A5 camera, triangle like shape on top of the windscreen, above the rearview mirror, and even if it did not have Lane assist, it can be coded, as well as traffic sign recognition, the button on the steering wheel you ask about is the shortcut to a menu to enable or disable assists, which the car has
  30. On flat surfaces it wont, tested this morning!
  31. This is the current irony with EV's, in part due to the charging nature of the technology, in part due to the bad rapid charging infrastructure. It only really suites commuter with a rigid daily pattern. (+ driveway) Sad to say this with 5 years of EV ownership, despite more EV's on the road, it still isn't for everyone. It's even sadder and worrying to remember 2030 is under 8 years away. I saved soooo much money commuting 60 miles each day (pre-Covid) in a ~80 miles range cheap EV. Octy and Leaf costed same to buy and are similar age, but the running cost is vastly different.
  32. So just swap the engine out for a complete AUB and ECU if you're determined to increase the power, it's a straight swap you can get done in a day if you have the tools and the talent.
  33. I say it is one of the plastic chassis covers.Mine is 2019.

@Gaz Dealer called, it's going to be next Tuesday. Time to deep clean the old car and get it ready to sell.
  35. A bit OT, but I worked with a guy who ran one of those and as the engine got to 8k rpms with his Miltec exhaust, you felt the gates of Valhalla were about to open. Magnificent engine. He now drives a Mustang EV! (although he rebuilds old classic cars as a hobby, so he isn't without some petrol in his blood) I don't like the synthetic noises that the current EVs make, although a Jetsons style wibble might be acceptable. I don't think it will come to pass, but if we were to get power cuts in the next 12 months, is there anything EV people can do? Would a simple mains generator be sufficient for a slow charge, or would the mains not be clean enough for the car?

An update. The car is a 2018 1.5 SEL bought in Jan 2019 pre registered with 10 miles on the clock . The car was manufactured September 2018 so sat idle at the dealers for about 4 months, it has covered 22,500 miles. Today I drove 70 miles to the East Coast and monitored the voltmeter plugged into the aux socket. Before start Voltage = 11.3 volts For 2 minutes after start the drive volts = 14.4 It then increased to 14.7 After 38 minutes it dropped to 13.3 on drive reverting to 14.7 on over-run At 50 minutes auto stop actuated Battery read 12.3 volts this fell to 12.1 after 2 minutes waiting On drive volts then = 13.7 on over run= 14.7 After 1 hour 35 minutes at jouneys end engine off and battery = 12.3 volts Return journey 6 hours later, before start battery volts=12.0 volts Drive volts = 12.4 After 3 minutes Drive volts = 12.7 After 30 minutes Drive volts varied from 12.7 - 13.0 Overrun alway 14.7 Journeys end after 1 hour 35 minutes ( 70 miles) Engine off battery volts = 12.1 On the over run or braking the volts always measured 14.7 with occasional peaks at 14.8 and 14.9
  37. Not that I know of. The fuel tank is under the boot floor with the EV battery under the back seat. At the aft end of the boot there’s a reasonable storage area under the floor - see my picture in the thread I linked above. This is big enough for the two charging cables and I have a jack, tools etc there. On the forward right hand side under the floor, there’s another area for the standard tool kit etc. Then on the right hand side wall behind the wheel arch, there’s another storage area. The left hand side houses the 12V battery.
  38. Little night shot, the steering wheel controls work the stereo but unfortunately doesn’t toggle the dash functions so I’ll need to experiment with that see if I can get some different buttons to work as I really don’t want to change the wheel, at least it looks good
  39. All sorted, sorry, there's an bloetooth audio autoplay you can deactivate

No, we are meaningless to them. There is no line here, this is already clear by now. There is no customer service. If you don't like it, **** off. They know we won't cancel after waiting so long to go into another line and pay more, so why not keep us waiting some more and keep newer and bigger customers happy, who are paying more. Simple...
  41. Check This is in the owners Manual Depending on driving style and operating conditions, the engine consumes some oil, up to 0.5 l/1000 km. Consumption may be higher over the next 5000 km. Check the oil level at regular intervals.

That clearly shows no Skoda is less than 6 months Karoq (quickest with some specs is 6 months) other specs upto 9 months New Fabia is now minimum 7 months Octavia is now minimum 11 months For UK (and probably Finland where @timster is) also need to allow for ship transfer from Emden, so can add about 3 weeks. So Skoda ordered today will be November through to many months into 2023 before it arrives.
  43. good build but not very good off road discipline from any of the drivers ... not leaving enough space between cars , and when clearing an obstacle then stopping right at the top of a hill so the following car has no where to go if they get into trouble ... no 2 way radios for communication ..... and this is how accidents happen
  44. This lovely lady was delivered today, she’s getting the full ceramic treatment tomorrow but couldn’t help but show her off. Very excited to have a big fast Estate car.
  45. I thought the high pressure pump was after the fuel filter, it makes very little sense for it to be before. On that basis the debris can only have come from the lift pump, that draws fuel through a guaze filter so it sound like the pump is breaking up.
