I’m picking my Octavia up on Thursday evening. Really looking forward to driving a car I pretty much bought blind. I test drove a MK3 TSI and sat in a MK4 diesel. That’s it. I’ll post a picture here and start visiting other threads on the forum at last.
  4. New grotesques waiting to be installed on York Minster
  5. Bloody baltic, but worth it.
  6. So while I’m waiting for the exhaust bits to arrive I decided to put some rivnut fixings in the tailgate so that it’s easy to swap the road number plate for the showroom vRS plates when at shows etc. The road plate was held on with double sided foam strips so no easy way of swapping them over and over. Pretty uneventful, not really photo worthy but I drilled the factory punched square holes out to 9mm then fitted two m6 rivnuts into the bootlid. Carefully measured the hole centres onto the show plate then drilled two 8mm holes for the black plastic m6 screws to go through. I’ll keep yellow screws in the car for the road plate obviously. looks quite smart with the small Detailing World sticker as well.. Speaking of stickers, I’ve put this underneath the bumper purely for the MOT man’s (and other nosey folks) amusement 😂 more soon when the exhaust gets here.
  7. They are never going to be in front of you for long unless you are stuck in traffic because they always go for any gap up the road and then will be right up your jacksy and you can not see the front grill. They are an Ultimate Drivers car, an ultimate pillock considering UK speed limits.

  9. Pumped hydro, hydro and tidal barages Tidal gives 4 generation periods a day (in and out twice) at very predictable times that are mapped out years ahead. Plus if you generate in, you can always block the outflow until it's needed and use any excess generation from the inflow to power pumps for the pumped hydro. If you look at cardiff bay, the barage there is a great example of somewhere that could (at least to the lay man) be easily upgraded to a tidal generation barage.
  10. The kia forums are full of how it's nasty inside, like an aeroplane seat etc. Many seem unable to get over the fact that it's about half the price of an EV6, so if you can buy two cars for the price of one it's a hard sell for the 50k one. Established premium brands are doing well, cheap EV will do well with the mass market buyers. I think the likes of VW, ford etc are going to have to up their game and drop their prices. Kia could be in a spot of bother, as the software is "interesting" imho, the car is premium priced and it doesn't have the bandge prestige over other cars that Merc, BMW, Audi or Porsche could count on.
  11. The front end / grille has been nicked from a Dodge SUV and squashed... as for the back it seems to be off a previous gen Civic R. Horrid regardless and very, very poor design (in fact I wouldn't even call it 'designed...' But then Domagoj Dukec has said in the past he doesn't really care what people think of his designs... so he clearly holds his customer base in high regard - NOT!
  12. Yep, no wideband on a 2009 BZG. I guess you are proposing to mix partial refills of E85 and E10 or E5 to get your suggested 40-50% ethanol. But why not just try it with increasing levels of fill/mix with E85 and E10 or whatever the standard petrol is there? If it starts running badly you'll know you've pushed too far in the direction of ethanol. Carry a spare 5 litre can of 'good' petrol so you can adjust the mix at the roadside.
  13. Update: The car went into the garage again last week. They found a secondary coolant leak caused by a broken clip on a hose which was replaced. I drove 300 miles over the weekend and the coolant level appears to be holding steady. Fingers crossed it stays this way. Thanks for everyone's comments and advice!
  14. Well there's a surprise, a car that is less attractive than the new m4 To be fair to the car, it does seem to be colour dependant, but it does look like a Dimma kit from the 80s Overall though, it's a poor show compared to the rather smart RS3 saloon and Mercedes A45 CLA. I'm sure it will drive well, BMW are on a bit of a roll in that regard at the moment, but honestly, I'd rather take the 240 Xdrive, at least on appearance. The old M4 looked lovely, the new one looks like a weird Mustang and similarly the old M2 looked quite aggressive and 'terrier' like, the new one looks like... well, the dog's dinner that the terrier ate.
  15. who will act like Rick and morty fans to people who dont like it - " you just dont understand the complexity of the design". No, i do, i just think its asinine and i dont like it...
  16. Sorry to burst the bubble but genuine oil from tps is around £20 a litre meaning the oil alone is £120, then the filter and new washer you are looking at roughly £160 for the genuine parts from tps. I very much wish it was £85 for the parts but not a hope in hell of that. The only reason dealers are so competitive on the price is they are partially subsidized and also buy the oil in massive amounts.
  17. I am on 19s with Goodyear Asy 5 tyres run at manufacturer pressures. I do not have any pictures yet as they can take a week or so to fully settle down. I will get one tomorrow to show how it looks 👍 I planned to fit them myself but ran out of good weather and time, as we have a 3.5yead old daughter and 10 week old son. So pretty much no free time. I also have obdeleven to reset the headlight level but am going to get an alignment done.
  18. its almoat like they took the feedback on the massive m3 grill to heart and said " well fine, if you dont like that, then we wont do it again... here take THIS instead, is it small enough for ye fussy feckers?"
  19. Most battery packs come from there. Huge number of car parts for ICE come from there. I think UK Tesla come from China, plenty of VW group cars have parts I’ve seen withmade in China on them.
  20. Nadhim Zahawi, Kwasi Kwarteng, Liz Truss just the start of those that have their Oil & Gas Business Donors, the Conservative Party is flooded with money from Oil & Gas. Boris & Priti Patel might be out of the picture now but plenty went towards him & her just this past year. Lots of Oil & Gas and energy companies representatives at the SNP Conference last week including Drax. http://theferret.scot/snp-criticised-hosting-major-polluters-conference
  21. It makes absolutely ZERO sense to put a cap on cheap renewable revenue when the increased price is induced by rising gas price. It sends the wrong message and will stifle investment in new renewable projects. The electricity pricing system is broken. Solution: fix the system! The generation is too reliant on one form of expensive fuel, solution: incentivise to get more cheaper generation built, not cap their profits! I'm sure have nothing to do with party funds funnelled from the fossil fuel industry. Hell, Truss spent four years working for Shell.
  22. A mix of fuels & energ sources are needed and Aberdeen & part of Fife & around the Moray Firth and Northern & Western Islands have loads of available electricity and more coming which is why they are producing Hydrogen. Pity that somehow there is seemingly according to the Prime Minister an energy crisis in Scotland & it needs Nuclear to assist the UK. What there is is too much being paid for energy that is being produced while the supply is being limited to manipulate the prices / costs. That is why the 'Cap on profits / mark up' might be coming. http://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63224014 The people of the UK are being conned at how cheaply electricity can be produced and provided and that the infrastructure and storage is an issue of Governments making. http://news.sky.com/story/government-plans-cap-on-revenues-of-renewable-energy-firms-12718382 Conned as well by middle east Gas & Oil Producers like those Kwasi Kwarteng MP was visiting only in February who were flying him around giving him a nice jolly and having undue influence. All coming out in the wash though after FOI requests. Lots of towns and cities are near the sea, most of the biggest are or by rivers, that is why they are where they are, or near hills. So possible wave, wind, hydro is not far away. Local transport is local and council vehicles are local. Hydrogen and electric for within the towns and cities, and hydrogen can get you city to city. Not rocket science or rocket fuel. http://
  23. The thing I took from the video is how massively inefficient it is to produce hydrogen. To produce enough hydrogen to give a car 300 miles range (for example) you need three times the amount of electricity an equivalent BEV would need. Scale that up national size and instead of needing (figures plucked from the air) 30 gigawatts of new generation to power the decarbonisation of cars, you need 90 gigawatts. That's a huge amount of extra generation needed in pursuit of an unproven technology. Its the electrical power needed to create hydrogen that makes it unviable IMO, not necessarily the technology to make it work.

  25. varoom, thanks a lot - I got 4x new sensors (allegedly removed from a Tiguan MK2) and it works now! I shouldn't have gone for the cheap ones. Now I just need to remove front bumper (still no idea how to remove that 2nd screw just under the headlights ), find a nice opening between engine bay and cabin etc...
  26. @Auxiliary I would not try it, and i think you should not either. I am not trying to encourage you, just encouraging you to think more seriously. If things go wrong have you another car handy? Best get the car serviced and running perfectly.
  27. No, I asked if mixing was how you were proposing to get 40-50% ethanol fuel.
  28. No I haven't tried it, and I have no idea how far you could go. Do the experiment yourself.
  29. There are two main types of oxygen/lambda sensor, one with just four wires which is what yours has both pre- and post cat, then there are wideband ones with five or six wires that are a bit more controllable, giving engine management more flexibilty. Earlier versions of the 1.2 12-valve had these more expensive 'better' sensors, but since about 2006 just the cheaper four-wire ones.
  30. I'd say no, I doubt it would even run properly, E85 works well on most modern turbo cars because the wide band lambda system will adjust fuelling to suit and the anti knock properties of ethanol allow much more ignition advance. Your car is not a turbo and may not even have a wide band sensor.
  31. @bmask90 have the 'Brakes' had any servicing / maintenance? Been looked at, stripped and cleaned, the pads condition checked? , & maybe a brake fluid change or 3 since 2014. Look after your brakes and they might look after you. It helps to reducing the chance of thinks breaking when you are braking.
  32. Thats a pretty dangerous statement to make especially as I have just looked at their reviews and they are quite good.
  33. You've posted this on a publicly viewable forum. Personal experience is Adrian Flux aren't particularly trustworthy either on policies or claims (some years ago, they put me down as at fault when someone drove into my trailer whilst I was stationary) I'm with swiftcover and have found them good to deal with, not had to claim with them though.
  34. Update to the original post, the car passed the MOT today with no advisories. But for what it costs I am going to change the rotting backplates, they are mega cheap and I have plenty of bolts in stock. Thanks for all of the replies team.👍
  35. No coding until you have the bits that need coding, the fridge wiring feed should be there, but it is down to the towball fitter to connect it up - some don't, so make sure you ask for 13 pin fully wired (or 7S fully wired).

I do like my wheels, but can't help but feel black extremes with diamond cut would be much nicer
  37. I finally got around to checking this just now. with 13.8V main supply to the module, I see almost exactly 13V at the two switch input pins (left window switch on pin 1 of 6-way, right window sw on pin 7 of the 8-way). When I lift either switch partially up the voltage at the corresponding pin goes to 6.8V approx, when pulled fully up as far as it goes, 3.3V. When pressing down on each switch I see 1.3V at the corresponding pin, when fully down it is 0V. These voltages will scale with the supply voltage, so will all be higher with engine running than just with ignition on, except for the 0V one.
  38. That's basically the entire list of parts I want to go for, except for the RARB. Glad to hear it rides well, any photos with the Pro Kit? I think rather than making it overly low dropping the front down makes sense.
  39. Hi , Obviously you mentioned how much the parts cost , could I ask how much you paid for fitting or did you do it yourself? I like the sound of this myself, the fact you have kept the Bilstein B4's as an OEM part, and used the Eibach springs to lower it, sounds like a really good idea. Love the way it passed the wife test🤣 Any chance of a picture?
  40. People will post whatever they wish to. Has battery charging come up yet, I don't read everyone's posts? 😁

Not a First Edition but an SEL delivered in Oct 2020 - currently on 1896.

I'm hoping that when I get my car back tomorrow that it's updated to 1896. I've asked the dealer to provide me with details of what software has been updated and what hardware components they have replaced. The frustration for me is that many of the issues being raised on the forum are being experienced by many owners, of all model variants of the Octavia, not just the First Edition. From what I've read Skoda do not have the ability to send these bigger software updates over the air, so it seems it does require owners to make contact with their dealer. Owners then go to their local dealer and explain the issue, and that seems to be where problems start. In my case in April, the dealer said they spoke to Skoda direct who said there were no issues with the Matrix lights, when their clearly are, and a member on this forum was an early adopter of new software aimed at stopping dazzling oncoming cars. Software 1810 was available at that time, but they did not update the car to it. So I don't know if it depends how the symptoms are explained when they call Skoda or if the technician is searching a database. However, it seems to me if they don't ask the question or carry out the right search they can get differing answers back. It's a shame because I really do like my FE. It's got a nice amount of kit, the 1.5 petrol I've got is more responsive than I expected it to be (my previous car was a 2.0 petrol Octavia vRS), and it's a very nice car to drive. The software is really letting down a fantastic car. To me I think they need to start distributing these bigger updates to the cars over the air, so more cars are automatically on the later releases of software. Skoda may find that this reduces the number of calls to dealer service departments...
  43. I dont think its true... It will be rare color, so I thinkt it will not be issue to sell it. Anyway, I do not plan it anytime soon to sell it so I am ok. The colour is just perfect. It lights up every parking lot full of grey, black or blue cars... You never miss it
  44. When I click on that link it says "you bought this item" and I bought it for the missus's 2005 Fabia to swap out while I was replacing the regulator panel earlier this year, so I would say it's just their info about what cars it will fit that's wrong.
  45. Yep 3B2837016R Do you mean the wire bit that the black plastic door pin sits on is the only broken bit? I'd be tempted to do without.
  46. I think 3B2 ending 016R I not on laptop to check if this is correct, bang it into Google and see.
