That would surely entirely depend on the knowledge and competence of staff at the time, and there'd be little to no chance of finding out now. None whatsoever in my opinion. Gaz
  2. The line about not trusting briskoda is warranted. A bunch of keyboard warriors giving advice on stuff they only know about because they once owned a Skoda 😀
  3. Less than 30mins after collection. 11 month wait but finally worth it.
  4. Carb Rebuild kit came in today so started on that. Carb came off fairly easy. Fuel bowls got some scuzz down it. All seemed pretty clean but the gaskets are dire. All apart tonight, soaking bits overnight to soften the muck. Might get it in one piece tomorrow evening.

Hi, there. I got my car two days ago. It was ordered 06.07.22 and was delivered on 15.11.22 (4 months). No additional extras. It is a Octavia Style, manual, and is absolutely gorgeous. I think everything is getting better now. Hold on, I bet you’re car will be fantastic and the wait will worth it.
  6. The risk is that the car will think the old (presumably duff?) battery is still in the car. It will charge it accordingly. This could prematurely age the new one. Definitely get it coded. Either get something yourself (OBDeleven is best value) or look up on here where someone is local to you and pat them in beer/tea/biscuits.
  7. Overall very happy with my Octavia. Initially some software issues however they seem to have been sorted for me with the latest update. The car performs very well both on a spirited drive and when trying to drive economically. I love the size of the boot and space inside along with the looks of the car. For the money I paid last year, I would struggle to get something else that ticks all the boxes I was looking for. I'm sure when I looked at a BMW 3 series with similar performance and spec I was looking at over 15k difference in price along with a smaller boot. This also impacted on the road tax and servicing costs.

Says who? For many years, we've had the legal powers to decide that entire catchment areas must be switched over to smart water meters, so long as it would increase water usage efficiency and decrease the strain on water-stressed region, thus helping the environment. On that basis, the same could be passed into law for electricity usage... y'know, since we're all in an energy crisis, and all. Given how much of their lives EV people seem to waste just for public chargers to become available, is there some kind of TV, free WiFi and a Costa coffee shop at every public charging point, yet?

It's a safe bet though that they would have had little or no knowledge or competence 🤣

    A full refund plus interest!
  11. Hello Dave, welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, the long-term driving data is probably unrecoverable. Re. coding the battery, this is definitely required as you have changed from EFB to AGM - which has a slightly higher charging voltage, and it also sounds as if the Amp-hours capacity is now larger than the old battery.

There is not a named driver on a V5. It is a registered keeper. That can be anyone in a dealerships name. A company, a Motability customer that had on lease. ? What recourse need there be on a 15 year old car? 2007. WTF.
  13. I just had a couple of sessions on the driveway working out a few bits at a time.
  14. I have so much older car then yours and it is my daily driver for nearly 6 years. All calipers are red like the car was delivered yesterday. Be persistent!
  15. I've not heard of this offer but I, too would treat it with suspicion. "Yes, Sir your software is OK... but we just happened to notice your brakes/discs/suspension/exhaust/etc. might need attention".
  16. KenONeill - It's a technical thing with the format in which Skoda have 'put up' the webpage - as confirmed earlier by varoom it is not in downloadable .pdf form. Attempting to use the Chrome "Print" command (either ink to paper or to create my own .pdf) produces a garbled mess (as varoom has also discovered), and the (presumed) only way to use either of these methods would be, as varoom stated, to screenshot each page individually & then print the resulting .jpeg(s). I suspect the manual has been uploaded in HTML (or some other basic programming language), and quite why Skoda should not provide a download facility escapes me. It's not as if the subject matter is like pirate downloads of films, music or TV programmes, and Skoda HAVE provided downloadable .pdf versions in the past. In addition I can't see that their would be a massive increase in costs to them in doing it. Referring to a post from another contributor, I do not wish to download & print the whole manual - only (potentially) some of the pages that are online only, and which the paper manual points out are only available in the digital version. Perhaps, in the overall scheme of things, 10 or 20 pages/sections. I can't think that it'll do much good but I'm thinking that I'll give Skoda a ring this afternoon & ask the questions of them. 17. For Amundsen, this has to be an original Skoda card. Links to the latest maps are here: Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2023/2024 Thank you @MartiniB for maintaining these
  18. Why post all that ^, it's not the slightest use to the OP, nor anyone else?
  19. Hi Warrior 193 and Big John. Thank you for your replies. It was a quiet Sunday morning, little traffic and I know I was doing 50 -60 in a 60 mph limit, as I had decided to keep pace with an Audi up ahead of me. I realised I was falling behind, but the accelerator wasn't responding and the message displayed was 'start engine manually'. I tried turning the ignition while still coasting but that didn't work and I realised I needed to drift to the kerb and put my hazards on. So I don't think I had taken my foot off the pedal when it cut out, but I can't be 100% sure as I was approaching a roundabout, which by the time I stopped completely, was about 30 yds ahead. I'm think you're probably right that the car did already have a problem and even though th dealer wanted to rectify any problem, I'm just so relieved to have been still within the 30 days to get a full refund. It was a lovely car, but two breakdowns in such a short space of time was just too stressful.

  22. Greetings varoom, I was supposed to get back to you last week, but I had a lot on my plate. The update has worked without problems, what it was now I can not tell you! I have taken another card in NFTS format, and there it went without problems. Either it was the actual card or the formatting. I do not know! Thanks for your help anyway

Yes should be simple. Take a look at Sasha's thread in the Octavia section. Should have everything you need.

  25. There's no need to remove the lip with a file before measuring with digital calipers. Just use something like a couple of magnets to measure the thickness of the disc including the thickness of the magnets. Then deduct the thickness of the magnets to get the thickness of the disc. Or if you haven't got magnets, use something else such as a couple of coins. That way, the digital calipers will be able to reach over the lip without the lip affecting the measurement.
  26. Looks like the dealer fitted a non-standard blade as mine is the original and 13" long.
  27. That must be a dealership where customers can get same or next day appointments and have not weeks to wait to get a service or even Software updates carried out on new cars with faults. Or warranty work done.
  28. Changing the battery requires coding using VCDS or similar or your new battery my not last or function properly.
  29. So yes, cylinder 1 is the one nearest the right-hand side of the car - from sitting in the driver's seat looking forwards!

Good. A pity it can not be simple and the tax charged at the point of first registration and to cover a 12 year life of a vehicle. Priced not by cars RRP,. But by size, weight, efficiency or not. Recycled materials used in the manufacturing etc. After that the VAT on electric covers things.
  34. Well, they would say that, wouldn't they? What's the source of these batteries - Panasonic, Duracell, Varta, re-badged as Skoda and sold at a higher price?

@wyx087 Some of us said this would happen, if not in the next tax year from today, years ago.
  36. Hello everyone. I have just purchased a new Octavia 1.5 tsi and love it! such a good driving experience, quiet and refined. Anyway just wanted to say hello and I look forward to being a part of this community.
  37. Glad you're enjoying your new car, welcome 🤗
  38. My experience... Going to https://digital-manual.skoda-auto.com/w/en_GB/welcome directly showed a German login prompt. Going to https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models first and selecting a model etc would redirect to https://digital-manual.skoda-auto.com/w/en_GB/welcome but show an owners manual. Subsequent visits to https://digital-manual.skoda-auto.com/w/en_GB/welcome then continue to show the model I last selected rather than the German login prompt. At some point the cookies etc set will expire and you will be shown the German login prompt until you reselect a model. Nobody is trying to mislead you, the webpage behaviour will change based on your previous browsing 👍
  39. Rather than letting the car idle for several minutes, I recommend driving very gently when engine is on. because it allows the gearbox oil, the gimbals grease to warm homogeneously. Otherwise, if you only let the engine idle, the engine oil will be OK, but gearbox and axles will be cold.
  40. Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything. Hi Richard, yeap I know, don't list bulbs either or how to change the door mirrors indicator bulbs. Until a number of weeks ago I ran a 1973 MG Midget as my only car for 15 years and other "classics" (over-priced and over-valued old cars) for about 15 years prior to that, so I'm used to the Driver's Handbook being comprehensive and helpful. IMO for engine oil & filter changes once a year or 10k-miles, whichever is sooner (soonest?) is the minimum - but it depends on a number of factors. If a garage is doing the job they may just do a cold quick change. If you do it yourself you can have the existing engine oil as warm as possible before draining to be able to get as much existing oil and muck out as possible and leave the oil to drain as long as possible to get as much existing oil and muck out as possible. This will mean you get more fresh new oil in and it is less diluted by the smaller amount of residue existing oil and muck left in. Towards the end of the drain I also pour some warm(ed) fresh oil in and allow that to fully drain to act as a final flush. As well as the thoroughness you may decide to consider the timeliness and frequency as well as the regularity and if your approximately 2 long runs a month aren't that long or regular you might consider changing the engine oil and filter every 6 months or 5k-miles instead if you want the car long term. Many will say as long as the oil is to spec get the cheapest you can, I'm not in that camp, I see meeting the spec as just the minimum standard I prefer to use good quality oils in the engine, gearbox (and rear axle) as the better oils offer better protection and for longer giving greater margins in the vehicles use and for if somethings go wrong. I went from twice a year engine oil and filter changes to once a year and using better quality oil (and filter) as I I used to 20 and 30(?) years ago. Of course there's much more to maintaining the car for a long life than just the engine especially with these modern and more modern cars. Take a general tip from me, don't let your car battery get low in charge even if the car still starts and the lights seem bright enough. And you can't drive these more modern cars always on economy mindset they need blow-out (Italian tune-up) runs than even more than with the usual draggy-arsed driver "classics" and that's not steady motorway stuff (check your online Owner's Manual). Here endth the sermon. 🙂
  41. Hello. I thought I would introduce myself with a short story . In 2001 A Skoda Superb Elegance appeared on my company car list and after seeking out a skoda dealer ( not too many back then) I opted for a 1.9TDI Auto in Saraha Beige IIRC. 3 years later and 105,000 trouble free miles it reluctantly went back and to my disappointment Skoda than was not on the list. I lost count of the times random people came up to me to ask about Skoda and I felt like an unpaid advert with the praise I doled out!!. Now retired I have bought myself a 2019 facelifted Superb hatch 2.0TS1 in Quartz Grey with 16000 miles on the clock , with optional 19 in alloys, auto park and virtual cockpit. So some 20 years later I am getting acquainted again with Skoda and enjoying every minute.
  42. That’s a poor show from a main dealer. They should surely rectify this and provide another?
  43. Yup, that sound broken. I suspect you've bought someone else's problem -you've done the right thing rejecting the car.
  44. And, indeed a "Fabia SE TSI " would be a mk 2 or later from the trim level and engine badges. FWIW, if you want extra light on the RH rear when reversing in the dark, you can (technically illegally) use the rear fog with the single reversing light. Round about 1985 my Dad had an Au'tin Oxymoron (Maestro), and using the rear fogs on it for reversing in the dark (like the Thistle Centre multi-story) was essential.
  45. The 340x30mm front discs have a minimum thickness of 27mm. The 310x22mm rear discs have a minimum thickness of 20mm. To say 1mm off the minimum thickness is really sloppy. I would take measurements to the nearest 0.1mm not the nearest 1mm. For example, what were the measurements taken on the front discs. There's a big difference between 27.5mm and 28.5mm. 28.5mm and you would probably just fit new brake pads. 27.5mm and you would probably change the discs. Bear in mind that changing pads and discs is easy and profitable work for a mechanic, and there's a lot of overselling going on.
  46. I can check the PR code for you, if you want to PM me your registration I'll send the file over.
