  1. Modern Hero's has just posted a good balanced review of EV ownership from a charging view point, using his recent John O' Groats to Lands End trip where home charging is not available to him, well done, it makes a change from all the home charging people who provide a really skewed viewpoint.
  2. Bit of background, condensed. 2008 Roomster, just what I needed at the time, brilliant. 2019 Octavia mk3 Scout, just what I needed at the time, towing caravan, brilliant. 2023 Sold caravan, health reasons. Out shopping two weeks ago, ended up buying a VW t-roc R line. Just what I need at this time. That's my Skoda life. 😉
  3. Still would have been more than I've spent so far, by quite a margin. I'm an engineer, so tinkering and fixing is what I do, I don't mind getting my hands dirty, fixing it and learning from mistakes. The Amazon one got me out the woods as I could get it next day, meant I could drive to work the next day. However long term it's clearly not a viable solution.
  4. And I bet you're the bloke who everyone gathers round so you can put them straight with your vast knowledge and charming wit. I wasn't rude to the OP and asked a genuine question - and try not to be in my content. You, on the other hand ........................
  5. I’ve heated washer jets and the lines can still freeze. Best to just use a really good winter additive at the correct dilution.
  6. I see no reason why it won't work on the mk3 Octavia. This is the coding I used to enable it on mine.
  7. Hi all, I joined this forum last week after buying a 2016 Superb and have already benefitted greatly. Having read some of the great topics here I chose to buy an OBDEleven Diagnostic tool to ensure that all was as it should be. I had already noticed that the DAB readio was very intermittent and looked here for solutions/reasons for the issue. Having set up the OBDEleven, I ran a diagnostic and it came up with a fault with the DAB antenna earth connection/short. Magic, all I needed to pop my car back to the dealer for a fix. So, in short, thank you all for the info/answers suggestions and recommendations offered on the forums, you have already helped me immensely. Best Regards, Mark.

Have they not just disappeared behind the seats when they have been folded?
  9. Brake test them.
  10. Surely if it’s foggy you need front and rear fog lights on, that’s why it’s designed to work that way.
  11. Have been on this forum for 15 years now after I got my first Skoda. This is a brilliant site, learned alot and helped alot when I've been able to. Being a Freedom member is worth the small layout. Once I've sold all my bits and pieces, I guess I won't be on so often, so thank you BRISKODA. 👍
  12. Hello and welcome Onur Gaz
  13. Thanks guys for the info. Hi Ric only just still in my 70s in 6 months I will be in my 80s Ho well its only a number at the end of the day its your health that's important. You all look after your self you will reach 80 or more if you look after yourself like you do the car.
  14. Saved lots at Aviemore with Tesla non Tesla rather than slow Charge Place Scotland Public Toilet Car park 70 pence a kWh and £1 a minute after 45 minutes. The Wilderness Scotland charger 22 kw is 145 pence first kWh then 45 pence. £5.00 overstay after 3 hours. Stirling Council Chargers / including Castle View are 35 pence a kWh, max 40 minutes, £1 a minute over, and no return for 90 minutes, / Farce.
  15. As long as you are not relying on it in a court of law to save your life. 🙂 I am not sure how much it tells you for your concerns here unless you mean the chap has the machine and measuring instruments and knows how to use them. I did note his text included comparing like for like oils. 😉 BTW Motul (UK & Ireland) sent me an email asking for car details at 17:11 today, I will give them and let you know their response.
  16. Hey Mike. Still going strong? You are in your 70's IIRC? About the battery. The ECU will be fine, meaning that you will not destroy anything, other than the "learned" values for an optimum fuel mixture at various loads on the engine, various environment values, and many other parameters that make the engine run smooth and non polluting. I recommend cleaning the throttle body followed by its reset.
  17. I have changed some batteries and done some ECU reset (with 3 ways). Check for possible faults via VCDS or relative, the ECU will ''learn'' as you drive the car about in a week or so and make some adjustments as happened many times with drivers after removind the throttle for cleaning.
  18. There are lots of insurance companies, some good some bad. Just because one bad insurance company insisted that refurbished wheels is a modification (it's not according to the insurance ombudsman) doesn't mean that they are all like that. Strangely, this bad insurance company thought that if you kerbed your rims and refurbished them that was a modification, but if you scratched your bodywork and repainted that it wasn't a modification. Clearly, neither are modifications...according to the insurance ombudsman.

That f*****g rear wash wipe is such a turd design. I have to clean ours 2-3 times a year and it winds me up far more than it should 😂. It's dead easy to do though. Plastic cap off, and then you can see the head of the sprayer. Thin screwdriver and you can lever the head off the base of the arm/motor. Use fine pins, compressed air or just stick the nozzle end in your mouth and try blowing through. Then whilst that's off check the supply isn't blocked by trying the wash wipe which should hopefully fire straight up in the air with no sprayer head on. The first time this happened I had half the tailgate apart trying to solve it, before I realised it's the removable sprayer head that gets gunked up.
  20. Infotainment's button, below the screen. It is just that if infotainment is stuck on constant loading, rebooting it is often the solution, as to many other issues.
  21. What a good idea; positively brilliant
  22. @wyx087The thing with should and could is that ii would not. This is not my first rodeo. It did not matter to me that it was locked in, just that it had eventually stopped charging and allowed me to use the CCS after their charge had finished. (I had not even hit the Emergency stop.) I hope the driver was lots of minutes over the 40 minute max charge time and paying £1 a minute. Charge Place Scotland and e-Volt chargers, (e-Volt owned by SWARCO.) At least at Stirling it is FES that does the maintenance. So it was just like the 2 arS£s the other days Hyundia,s. Locked in and charging finished, but it was the CCS they were using. .................. Only a 13.8 kWh battery so no idea why it was so long still charging.
  23. Problem solved. I asked a Skoda garage to look at the problem of removing the headlights as the car was with them for an MOT. I had been soaking the mechanism in proper spray penetrating oil since my last post. The largest and strongest guy in the workshop eventually got each headlights to move. The fixed and sliding plates had been held together by rust. He cleaned away the rust and lubricated the parts. Now easy to pop out the headlight for a bulb change. No charge.
  24. So tell us, what's your new form of transport??
  25. You might have needed disks but the warped disks line sounds like BS. I have never ever owned or even heard of anyone I know having actual warped disks. A warped disk would usually indicate a problem with the brake caliper since that can twist the disk itself. Contaminated disks causing pulsing/judder, absolutely had that loads of times. Can be cured by driving like a loon on an empty road getting the disks really hot. Garages like to try to scare people into replacing pads by using all sorts of BS terms. BMW used to quote "braking miles", I've had percentage wear and all other sorts. They usually start to look very awkward when you ask "what's the measurement?", and they haven't measured. And franchise prices for brakes are criminal. When I had a Range Rover the dealer quoted £1100 for front disks and pads. Got it done at an indy for £400 and he apologised for it being so high.
  26. Hello Gopal, I suspect your engine is burning oil, which unfortunately, is a common problem with the EA888 engine. Do a search on the forum for the issue.
  27. 2. Thanks i have seen a setting somewhere about the logos but i will take another look, the only reason i assumed i would have to upload them is they didn't appear on my previous Skoda's either for some reason. 3. Thanks for the link i will check it out. 4. I did not know that 😁 thanks i will investigate.

I suspect you have leaks. Valve itself or micropunctures. Check for small screws in tyres. I have had tons of that. If you doubt in readings - buy a manometer (pressure gauge).
  29. Depends on the error message, I think. AFAIK, if radar or camera are dirty, it should say that Front Assist is temporarily limited or something like that. At least I had such messages when driving in snow and radar was covered in snow. If just unavailable - that might be the old known issue which should have been fixed on newer cars, older cars had to go through service campaign 4S58 to address that.
  30. Hi Warrior193, thank you for the welcome This is a private sale. Cambelt incident was at 89,792 mileage, invoice dated 16 February 2023. Major skoda service carried out at 93,936 miles on 04 October 2023. The car is being sold now at around 94,500 miles. These are the private sellers exact words "It didn't completely snap. We've changed it in time. But the old one didn't have much life in it", vs the invoice labour description of "Diagnosing potential faults from timing belt failure, s&f new timing kit" completed by JBM Performance in Sheffield. I feel like something isn't quite right.
  31. Disappointed but that you for being the guinea pig
  32. We use android auto. My message is for @darushah, but I couldn't quote his message. 😀
  33. Damp sensor used in production although Lord knows why, they can also be found on the floorpans beside the cills. Worrying that a vehicle built inside a state of the art factory requires damp sensors, perhaps the days of bodyshells being left in fields to rust are not yet behind us.
  34. EFB batteries represents the next step in technology for flooded batteries. They have longer cycle life and can cope much better with deep discharge than traditional flooded batteries. https://carbatterygeek.co.uk/efb-vs-agm-battery-best-for-stop-start/
  35. @MarkyG82 - it's the same with Skoda - direct TPMS doesn't need resetting. Indirect TPMS does. U can see the differences in the image below. With the direct TPMS, the target pressure is in brackets. If the actual drops more than 4 psi, it will alarm.
  36. Great tip! I'll do that as I'm pretty sure the resulting rattles will have driven me mad 😂. Thanks 👍
  37. Yes it can be retrofitted. 2 new washer jets (genuine are £20 each) a ground wire, a power wire running into the cabin to the bcm and a single adaption change in the bcm. easy in theory but running the wires neatly inside the car can be a bit time consuming
  38. I should have had a closer look in the handbook:
  39. I normally used Hankook (Ventus Prime) but went for Kumhos ES31s (I think) this time. It seemed that 195s were cheaper than 185s when I bought recently. I haven't noticed much difference in performance so far, except that the Kumhos are quieter.
  40. Never paid any attention to the clip fixing but yes I believe it simply fits into a slot when the trim is removed. I removed the pillar on my Octavia to install dashcam wiring but failed on the karoq as I was frightened I'd break the trim - it's fixed in with clips that required more pulling effort than I was willing to try. From memory the airbag sat under the furthest away half of the trim from the windscreen so no need to remove it when the trim is removed. However before I even tried playing with the trim, I disconnected the battery.
  41. This software has been verified as working on the Swing and Swing Plus Radios present on the Skoda Fabia MK3 (2017-2021). It's better to don't proceed if you don't have problems with Carplay crackling: the only benefit will be this and it is not convenient for the rest. Reading below you will understand better why. The following, in fact, is only aimed at remedying Skoda's and/or authorized centers's inertia in resolving this serious defect with Carplay which is a potential violation of consumer legislation and is not intended to be in any way an official guide. Before you proceed: - be aware that if you have a radio that is not the one installed when the car was manufactured, by updating you could have serious operating problems because the "crack" that allows to circumvent the Skoda limitations could be removed. An authorized Skoda center would tell you that it is your problem and that they can't do anything, or ask you to pay a lot of money. Same for those who have second hand cars: the radio may have been replaced unofficially and you could have the problem above. - in the same SERVICE MODE menu check that the longest string of the installed version begins with MEN2_EU_SKGPx_ because if it is not, it is practically certain that this software is not suitable for your radio - be aware that those who updated had no problems arriving from software versions 8740 and 8742: if you have previous software, we don't know if it will work. Some users have suggested doing gradual updates (not verified if this is correct). If anyone has updated from previous versions please report it here. - be aware that in any case everything is at your own risk: it seems that many users here have not had any problem with the update. But it is a procedure that intervenes in different components of the car and as in all electronic matters something can go wrong. - be aware that the installation will be fully tracked: the radio will memorize the date and time of the installation. An alert will be activated in the 5F control unit (a harmless fault that can remain forever without creating consequences), precisely aimed at notifying the Skoda assistance network at the first service that an update has been made and this has not been confirmed with the official instrumentation. The warranty is clearly potentially compromised, or they may ask you for money to remove the error (even if it takes them very little). Because on the date and time you did the update the car was not in service in any Skoda center. It depends on how and who manages this alert. Below you will find further information on this alert and how it can be removed with the appropriate tools. PROCEDURE You have to: - use an SD card. It also seems to work in a pendrive but for now no user has confirmed it and in any case it is a less stable device. Always format in FAT32. - download the zip, extract the files and place them in the main folder of the SD/Pendrive. So no subfolders: just the various BT folders, etc. and the metainfo2.txt file. - insert the SD/Pendrive into the car, hold down the SETUP button until the SERVICE MODE menu opens, then open "software update / version" and press UPDATE. The system will ask for confirmation, do a few reboots, and finally, when everything is finished, it will want the Volkswagen "diagnosis tester" device to be connected. Here you can solve it by pressing cancel. The alert will be created in the control unit, as I mentioned above. If you don't want problems with Skoda, you can remove the trace in the ECU via the diagnostic socket: search google/youtube for "Checking software version management" and B201A to better understand how to do it. However, in fact: you need a specific device and software, like OBDEleven or others. Or you can do it without paying a software using a simple OBD2 elm327 dongle and apps like Car Scanner, but error removal procedure can be risky if not done with extreme caution. Nothing impossible, but here too, it is right that you know everything. One possibility, however, is that the Skoda technician could pass by instantly, out of haste or by choice. But if there is a problem, even if it was Skoda who tricked us into doing the upgrade ourselves, you can become the guilty party. I say this because in some parts of Europe there are testimonies of how the 8755 software is declared not compatible with some systems on a prudential basis although it absolutely is in reality (I guess they didn't want to make adequate investments on tests to be sure). They often don't care about Carplay crackling even if under warranty, saying: "Keep the car with the problem, Volkswagen doesn't authorize us to work on this, sue us if you want". Like I said: if we filed a class action against VW we would win and we would have money. But little money and legal fees to advance. And it's a problem that's too ridiculous and quick to solve. About the signature error on replaced radios / second hand cars: surely there is a further unofficial way to remedy this, but you have to search the web and you definitely need at least one OBD2 device. I cannot help you in any way on these issues, including the "Checking software version management" error. It's useless to ask me, I'm sorry. Here is a link to the update that should not expire: https://ln5.sync.com/dl/317e3e7e0#x48kb45t-c729295p-faxdwai4-und5yx7w password: carplay

  43. Yep, it certainly did, but better than a wrecked engine.
  44. To avoid having to do the sump plug get a PELA 6000 and extract the oil through the dipstick. Simple, easy and no mess. A fair few garages do it in a similar way.
  45. I have tried my app this morning and all seems to be working ok, so the must have sorted the Server out !

The DQ381 7 speed wet clutch DSG service interval as shown by Skoda / VW is @ 80,000 miles and oil change and no filter. If you have a keeper you might want to think on that and if you might have it done sooner and be sure the filter is getting replaced.
  47. Not a bodywork expert but I would have thought it is repairable , probably best to check with a body shop and if you can remove it yourself will save some money but they may want to do the whole job . If your game take a look @ YouTube and see if your brave enough 😉
  48. Having spoken to the warranty guy at my local dealership I can certainly identify with this. It is obviously a standard attempt to convince you not to proceed. In my case I bought a car with full dealer servicing at a different dealership and had it a year now. Today, he was coming up with things like the car should have had the extended range service done, otherwise Skoda wouldn't touch it under warranty The thing is all that is required is a full service history and by law a manufacturer cannot even insist on dealer servicing, only that the car is regularly serviced. In my case the car is 7 years old and only has 15,000 miles. If a full service was done say after 3-4 years and the dealer didn't notice anything, then that is enough to satisfy the warranty requirements IMHO. Given the known issues, you would think the mechanics in the dealerships would have been warned to look. In any case, this is a known fault, so the cars could have been brought in for inspection by issuing a recall. I will definitely be pursuing this as far as I can. Had a Fabia before and otherwise good cars to be fair.
  49. A really nice aspect of this BM2 device is that it can tell you the battery voltage with the car fully 'asleep'. Many people try to measure without ensuring this state has been reached, and then reach conclusions based on poor data.
