  1. Not me, honest It feels funny really, we were once part of that 'cabal', but now we're so much on the outside looking in, it hits me every now and then, how isolated we are.
  2. Said it once, but I’ll say it again; you are a complete, but also a quite amazing NUTTER AS! Absolutely incredible jaw-dropping work, which no sane person would even think about attempting; quite brilliant - I applaud you! 👏🏻
  3. I wanna be in the gang 😞
  4. At this point probably, but I’m well underway now! the only thing I wish I started with was a sportline 280 estate with a sunroof - as retrofitting the pano roof and 4wd system is a pain in the ass (but not impossible)
  5. So this thread is going to be a bit of a hybrid! As well as outlining the projects I am doing on my car, Ill supply as much detail along the way for new projects to hopefully allow others to do the same and also to answer any questions you may have. Lets start with the car itself; Car Skoda Superb MK3 TSI Sportline Estate in Laser White Engine Standard 2.0 TSI EA888 with 220bhp Racingline air intake Racingline turbo intake pipe Racingline turbo intake elbow Transmission Standard 6 speed DSG DQ250 Suspension Currently standard original Brakes Audi S3 Front Calipers with plain fascia plates Superb 280 Rear Calipers with vented discs Drilled and grooved black discs OE brake pads Braided stainless brake lines Wheels & Tyres Standard Vega 19 inch alloy wheels with 235/40R19 Bridgestone T005 Spare wheel - Full size, same as above Exterior Standard sportline black pack Maxton side skirts Rear mudflaps Maxton splitter Maxton fog surrounds Interior Rear seat release from boot area LED boot lights White LED boot torch Electric tailgate Heated front seats Heated rear seats Heated steering wheel Ambient LED footwell lights LED front door puddle lights LED rear door puddle lights Electric/Memory front seats ICE & Security Canton sound system Rear door keyless entry Tailgate easy open/close 12 parking sensors MIB2.5 Columbus radio Virtual cockpit 3 zone climate control Heated windscreen Heated washer jets Front and rear dash cam ADAS Adaptive cruise control Predictive cruise control Adaptive lane assist High beam assistance SLA headlights Side assist Cross traffic assist Self park Rear view camera with lens washer As you can see, for a Sportline that started off with only the following optional extras: Electric tailgate, MIB2.5. Its came quite a long way and heres a few photos to show the work done so far, if anyone wants further details on any of the current retrofits, let me know, the future ones will be documented as I go. Lane Assist 3Q0980654 camera fitted as well as a new windscreen - all features enabled and fusion canbus ran to the front radar. Heated windscreen Canton soundsystem An absolutly massive retrofit requiring around 150 meters of new wiring, all corners of the car, a lot of new speakers and a lot of custom made wiring 0 Side assist/Cross traffic detection Another expensive retrofit requiring new wing mirror glass at £400 each side, new radars and brackets behind the rear bumper and all associated coding and wiring Release rear seats from luggage area & Heated rear seat elements 3 Zone climate control Another massive retrofit - stripping the entire dashboard from the car to replace the complete heater assembly to allow the 3rd climate zone, this also gave me a good chance to neaten everything up behind the dashboard and also flush the heater core. pACC/Predictive cruise control Required replacing the front radar and also a calibration of it - done perfectly with any solid smooth object and a few tape measures and patience. Facelift tailights Fitting these allowed for dynamic indicators and unlocking animation - these arent a straight fit and require custom wiring adapters and new wires running to the BCM Virtual Cockpit Quite a specialist retrofit this one, needs access to the main dealer tool for component protection and immobiliser recoding - but so worth it! Carbon clean @ 50k miles Not much a retrofit but after 50k of constant motorway miles i thought it would be a good time to give it a walnut blast. Cost around £40 in parts and my already owned air compressor and garage vacuum LED boot lights and engine styling Nothing too special, just a custom made LED torch, LED lights that dont fault and Racingline air intake and associated parts
  6. Huh? Im a bit confused, the fuel gauge will go up and down as you use it and fill it up? what do you mean false readings? what is it you want from this? Help fixing something? Let people know? People come to the forum to discuss and also get help, to do either of these things you’ll need to give us more than 1 sentence please.
  7. Thanks. I took it to my local independent VAG/Skoda specialist and they reset it while I waited, and didn't charge me anything! Volks Autos | Complete Garage Services for Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda and BMW
  8. The EU's stance is one of what it considers fair competition. So it has Anti-Dumping powers if goods are people sold cheaper to the EU than in that country's own market, it presumes the goods are being "dumped" to destroy the EU's manufacturing so one destroyed that exporter can move in and supply with a profitable export to the EU after a period of destroying the EU's manufacturing base. This is Anti Dumping Duty ie tariffs. There is also Countervailing Duties that can be used to recover perceived losses in other areas, we have used this more against the USA than even China. There is also Safeguarding measures, or quota measures, can be quickly put in place to stop apparent quickly developing situations that threaten EU home supply interests. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An anti-dumping duty can be imposed if goods have been brought in at a dumped price, i.e. they have been sold for export at a price that is lower than the cost of production or the domestic prices. Anti-dumping duties are often imposed on particular companies. A countervailing duty can be imposed if a country has subsidised its exports. A product may be subject to both an anti-dumping duty and a countervailing duty. A safeguard duty or a quota can be imposed if unexpectedly increasing imports pose a threat to EU industries. Safeguard measures can be imposed quickly, and their validity is shorter than that of anti-dumping and countervailing measures. The safeguard measures concern all non-EU countries, i.e. third countries. The imposition anti-dumping and countervailing measures is always preceded by an investigation. The investigation takes up to 14 months (anti-dumping duty) or 13 months (countervailing duty). Definitive measures, an anti-dumping duty or a countervailing duty, can be imposed after the investigation. They are to lapse after five years. Provisional measures. The Commission can impose provisional measures during an investigation, no earlier than 60 days from initiation and no later than 7 to 8 months thereafter. A provisional anti-dumping duty is imposed for a period of up to of six months. A provisional countervailing duty is imposed for a period of up to of four months. A guarantee must be lodged them. The guarantee is collected as definitive, if a definitive anti-dumping or countervailing duty is imposed.
  9. Let's just say for a minute the EU is protectionist, who's interests do you think they are protecting? I thought this had been done to death in previous topics but apparently not <sigh> https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/europpblog/2017/08/14/the-eu-isnt-protectionist-its-one-of-the-most-open-economies-in-the-world/
  10. You mean the EU are trying to be protectionist?
  11. I see that two of the 11 partners are BMW and Audi, who probably know a lot about the batteries they use and probably don't need a passport at all. Makes me think they are trying to put a differentiator into worldwide Battery production and possibly have more say when none EU EVs are imported.
  12. I was thinking that I may buy a (for sake of argument) Chinese car and it may have some sort of specification deviation from the norm, so if the EU are keeping tabs on cars build and quality of components, they may also have a minimum spec for those car's batteries and I could fall foul of their regs if I took a car abroad. Perhaps I'm jumping a couple of stages ahead of the Passport's intent, but I'm suspicious of things like this, as I can see it as a way for import duties etc, to go up on cars (probably from China) into the EU. The next step would be a surcharge to take your vehicle into the EU if it didn't meet EU regs. We might adopt a very subtly different spec on UK cars and then fall foul of EU requirements? I agree, I should have stated all that paranoia in the previous post.
  13. Morris Minor convertible - Ah driving with wind in my hair (had some then) King of the road!! Triumph Herald convertible - I was so cool man ...😎
  14. Electric car charging ? No. In cold climates ICE (not a pun) get plugged in to block heaters to keep the glycol in the "cooling", yes cooling systems warm enough not to bust the "cooling" system. Diesel fuel itself starts to get sludgy around minus 12C. Glyloc needs to be very close to the range of being 60% strength with the water being the other 40% to give protection down to minus 45/50 C I gather so you need to get your hydrometer to get that just right. And media trying to paint the picture EVs have issues with vey cold temperatures . "ICE" car plugged in to a block heater to stop the glycol bursting the engine.
  15. ^^^ I think on a Skoda forum especially this forum we know what you get in some countries and what people ask on this forum regularly about can i fit this'. @Graham ButcherWhat 'All Weather Tyres did your Superb Come from the Factory with, are these 3PMSF / 3 Peak / Snow Flake tyres? They all come on All Season / All Year / All Wether tyres, Just that these tyres for 12 months of the year that most come with are not Winter Certified. As to OEM tyres, the forum is full of those wanting to change them because yes they are suitable for importing cars into the UK on right up till some people do not feel they are safe enough for them to be getting about on. PS. EDIT i see now that @Graham Butchercovered this. @wyx087 There are pre-heaters for ICE engines that Pre-Heat the coolant & oil, because starting the Engine from cold to Pre-Heat it is not Pre-heating is it ?, it is maybe getting the engine ready for you to drive off or heating the interior.
  16. Pretty much yes, as long as the actual coolant temperature stays in the range of 60C to 110C.
  17. Before I left work today I raised the seat as high as it would go and pushed it forward so I could see where it should be connected. Plugged it in and the heating element in the seat back started working 👍🏻
  18. But not above and yes this cold week here in the UK. Just the top half for me. Before I did this the temperatures were about 10 C lower still. Thanks. AG Falco
  19. The Skoda parts catalogue shows that the Origami comes in three versions as shown below. 20. I had a Skoda Karoq 2022 with heated windshield. It was foiled without any stripes. Windshield colour (tint) from outside looked like copper. Now I have a Skoda Karoq 2023 FL with heated windshield. It is also foiled without any stripes. Colour is neutral. The heating power of the old windshield was better = little faster.
  21. 1 point
I've just, today got two new vredestien winters fitted to the rear of my 2wd karoq to match the front tyres which have done not many miles. When I bought the car 6 months ago it came with two Bridgestones in the standard 215/50×18 with about 5mm tread, one Bridgestone on 3mm and a brand new budget unknown on te front. I removed all 4 wheels and fitted the wheels and tyres I had on my previous yeti, which are shod with kormoran summer 235/50×18 which are decent tyres. The standard karoq alloys I fitted the vredestien winters, which were part works from a trusted source, a good mate that had used them one winter doing only 2000 miles. So about a month ago I fitted the standard wheels with winter front and summers on the rear. I have had this many times in the past without any problems, although I know its not recommended. Then 3 days ago the snow arrived. I found the car nearly undrivable, good traction at the front but the back slipping and sliding all over the place. So bit the bullet and ordered two identical vredestien winters. Fitted this morning, the side streets around here are all still white, hard packed snow. Huge difference in the car. Still not as sure-footed as my previous yeti, but it was 4wd, this koroq is not. I will be swapping back to the other wheels in the spring as I prefer the look of them, they are a genuine vag wheel in gloss black. But the moral of my tale is now I say do not mix two different types of tyer on the car. Either 4 summers, 4 winters or 4 all seasons. If changing summers to winters and vice versa it's good to have two sets of wheels, or use all seasons all year long. I now have 2 half worn and one nearly done Bridgestones and one unknown budget only done 50 miles in the shed which I probably will never use. I will probably sell them, someone will take then to get an mot or sell on a car, or use themselves.
  22. Solved! In fact was related to the oil sensor but on the ECU side. The area was cleaned with contact cleaner and in this way the fault gone.
  23. Well, the question was 'character' - didn't specify whether good or bad 🤣
  24. New blade from EBay delivered today and have fitted will update on performance etc. New blade on left original on right.. And on looking at receipt, blade supplied by Heyner UK
  25. The other simple check: If usb-c sockets it's mib3 If usb-a socket, SD card slot and a CD/DVD slot mib2 if manufactured 2015-2019. 2020 saw mib3 introduced by Vag. Mib3 has a blanking plate in the glove box where you'd see the SD and CD/DVD slots of mib2. Then if it is a mib2 whether it's a mib2 standard or mib2 high. First uses SD for navigation. Second SSD for the maps. Columbus mib2 is a mib2 high unit. Each Vag brand gave it's own name to the standard and the high but generically standard or high, SD based mapping or SSD held maps.

  27. Just manage to snap it as it disappeared behind the clouds🌛
  28. What are the OEM your tyres the car still has fitted? The 'All weathers' That Skoda put on. -6*oC and i am away to get the drivers door of the Estate car open and get it fired up and the ice under the snow melted and then drive with great care on the 275 wide rear 'All year round tyres' that it has fitted. (RWD) I have been driving lots for many winters on very bad roads, but very very seldom ever on sh1tE tyres for winter roads. (I should have had the Greenhouse heater in it before the snow started.) EDIT. Doors were not frozen shut. Hurry up and slow down. Flight from Norway i am going to meet might be delayed as a big storm there overnight.
  29. Mine was a 57 Roomster (November 2007) and it was 2nd gear I heard the gear change noise. It does appear now this was a known 2007 Roomster situation. Reading that old post, how would you add extra oil ? It comes out of the side fill hole when at that level, would you have to tip the car to the side ? I just filled to that level, drove the car a bit and added again to fill level to confirm it hadn't changed (dropped) after using all the gears. The noise description Grumbling or Crunching, all I can say 2nd gear was not the silent slip into gear as the other gears were. You didn't have to use any more pressure to change gear, it was just not silent. I can't remember now was it only up or down shifts, but it was alway to 2nd gear. I didn't like the noise as the noise made me think something must be wearing more, in making a noise and it would only get worse until ultimate failure. So I was relieved when just an oil change returned the silent, smoother gear changes.
  30. Can you get us a code scan of your car, then we can advise?
  31. Newest revision with no silikat is 5Q0121407M
  32. So much for keyboard expurts, huh?
  33. Not really. Mine went at 38,000 miles (‭61,155‬km). As Colin said, brace yourself…..😖
  34. Manual or DSG. If DSG do that stat first
  35. I probably would never have stumped up the money for them but they were already on my Yeti, I dont know for how long but I have used them for a further 3 years and 50K miles and they are still in great shape so worth the extra investment. For when they do wear out I bought a length of Bosch Aérotwin profile rubber from an Ebay seller to recon them, I'm not expecting it to be as good as the original but who knows?
  36. Make sure they are Bosch Aérotwin because they also sell Bosch branded standard Chinese tat wiper blades for those who think the Aérotwins are too expensive, they are as sh1te as any other cheap wiper blade. Smart move by Bosch though and something that many other premium brands also do, rather than lose a sale they make even more money selling tat for an inflated price because of their name.
  37. Get what you can from them towards this genuine service and double check with them that the reminder is reset. After that, vote with your feet and don't ever go there again.
  38. The only explanation that I have is that is what occured. I only tried the change gearbox oil as I was reading quite a few posts on it. Such as this one I just found via Google: So I hear what your saying, but all I can respond is it worked for me, and from what I read back then others too. PS That's just one post out of a few around that time. I'm sure you could find more. All I can report is what occured and what oil I used. I can't say was the gearbox fully filled before, I didn't measure the amount drained. Was that oil I used a different viscosity to the original. Just don't think I'm lying, I'm simply reporting what occured.
  39. Because some of the Superbs can be fitted with a diesel powered heater system and can be programmed to switch on and off via the onboard management systems so it does need the engine running. Similar heaters can also be fitted into caravans for example. Here is a similar system for Volkswagen T5/T6 vans that have the heater mounted beneath them and the hot air ducted inside. Eberspacher Airtronic D2L Externally Mounted Diesel Heater With Easystart Pro Controller For Volkswagen T5/T6 | 12 Volt Planet There is one of these fitted into this superb self designed and built camper van and if you goto around the 10:50 area you can see it and they describe it.
  40. Its not so much the fact that they are not using OEM tyres, I mean they must be suitable or otherwise they would be fitting them, would they? My car is still on all weather tyres as fitted when new. It's got far more to with the engine power at the sometimes pretty big torque figures available and the drivers' inability to understand just how to drive on slippery roads, be they icy or snow impacted, we don't get enough of the bad weather for them to get used to driving in such conditions and for many it might well be their first experience of bad weather. So many people get these big powerful cars like BMW's etc and then just like Clarkson go "Power" and bury their foot in the carpet and wonder why their wheels are spinning, and TBH I can predict this getting worse as there seems to be a race to develop ZEV's with even more power and torque being delivered to the wheels right from the off, I can see many accidents being caused by the massive acceleration that many are now capable of and insurance premiums going sky-high as a result. I do agree that it is nice to have the ability to preheat / de-ice before setting foot in the car. Some can Skoda's have that ability, mine can be sadly they don't seem to be approved on models destined for the UK 😒
  41. Good evening. Once up to temperature mine always sits at 90c. Never higher or lower. Maybe a faulty thermostat?
  42. Mk4 towbar noseweight limit is 80kgs so yeah would be a struggle with 4 bikes + the weight of the carrier which is probably 15-20kg itself. Depends how fancy the bikes are I guess! I have a Thule 2 bike towbar mounted carrier. Had it about 10 years, it’s been great. There is a drop down mechanism to allow boot access without taking the bikes off. Definitely needed on all the cars I’ve used it on. Depending on the hinging a hatch bootlid might clear a towbar mounted carrier
  43. ..I had an Allegro ???? . . . ...I'll see myself out....
  44. If you're talking about mk2 Fabia vRS seats, then they will bolt straight in to a mk1 Fabia with no modifications. I presume that sepulchrave thought you were talking about mk2 Octavia vRS seats, which as he said will not fit in a Fabia.
  45. About the same as the same as when you was parked up before but it depends on what electric consumption your car is using at the time and whether any significant load was left running, or drain, over night. You want to use the OBD to compare against the last OBD reading for consistency as the phone charger might always show a different result to your OBD being different devices. Personally I prefer a reasonable quality multimeter directly on to the battery terminal posts if you want to know the battery voltage at that point, but you would have to had taken a reading this way when the battery was first installed to know the difference. Depends on what electric consumption your car is using at the time and whether any significant load was left running, or drain, over night but I would consider 12.0v bad. My wife's AGM battery arrived in the post at 12.4v which is fine for the battery but I personally prefer to install the battery at 100% charge, though it isn't necessary, which will show something like 12 point 7, 8 or even 9 on a multimeter (after its surface charge has been lost). Hopefully you are fully sorted by now. As my wife does lots of short journeys I found I have done more preventative charges of the AGM battery fitted June 2021 with an appropriate battery charger and maintainer than I expected, not many but more than I expected. Cheers.
  46. Yes, the same here, 25" for driver`s side. However this size is available only from Skoda, so the options are 24" or 26". I find 26" clears more of the surface of the windscreen. Been using them for years. P.S. Bosch wipers work excellent in frost. The original ones tend to freeze, become stiff (even if you clean them or work with anti ice stuff) and degrees below 5 celsius do not work at all. Engineering fault - too many tiny channels which gather moisture / ice.
  47. Take a look at my thread on this issue here My car is finally sorted. It required re-calibration of the camera, and that has to be done with specific equipment that many Skoda dealers do not have. Marshall Skoda Letchworth had to take it down to their Volkswagen dealer which does have the equipment, but for some reason they have use the equipment with a laptop loaded with Skoda software. I think the Skoda dealer in Milton Keynes is also Marshall. If you get any trouble with them, or get fobbed off about how they took it to an MOT testing station to check the levels, insist they get the camera re-calibrated, and to call their Letchworth branch for details on getting it done. The dealer commented yesterday that they've had to do a few re-calibrations on cameras recently.
  48. I don't get the spend lots on car audio movement. Sorry to say, but I am not a fan of cars on the road providing travelling noise polution. I much prefer those who keep their audio to themselves. Personally I don't see much point in spending 1000s on audio in a car which will always be a compromised envirnonment for quality sound. I know some seek volume above everything else. They will perhaps enjoy sound in middle to later life throgh hearing aids. Some very good digitally tunable ones ont there now. In terms of sound in a car, unless high end sound and noise cancellation has been built in from the start as with very high end motors. The aim of which is not normally sound but its elimination. The result may be better than stock but will always disapoint if purity and perfection is requied. We all have Personal choice and everyone is different but expensive audio in an average average car is not how i'd spend my money but I fully respect you choice to do so if that is your thing. Enjoy your modifications. its intersting to see what others do. 👍
