  1. Spent £450 at a local garage to have the brakes and pads done with OEM parts - after the local skoda dealer quoted me £1400 for the same job. Additionally spent another £350 on new tires all round, which Skoda quoted me £1000 for, as they wouldn't put anything but Michelin or Pirelli on the car. This morning they rang me to tell my warranty claim for the SOS speaker fault was declined, so i will just make do, as i'm not spending £130 on a 20 pence speaker to be replaced.
  2. Got one! 72 plate Meteor Grey with pan roof and DCC 👍 Missing the reverse camera so that will be the first job 😄
  3. A quiet Friday at work so did a few calcs based on my 4 year ownership ( almost to the day ) of my 2016 1.6Tdi Estate. Days Owned 1460 Maintenance, Service, Spares, Repairs £7220.48 Insurance £1568.73 Road Fund Licence £80.00 Total ( excl fuel ) £8869.21 Distance Driven ( Miles / km ) 100,608 / 160,973 Av. Miles / km per day 68.9 / 110.26 Fuel used ( gallons / ltr ) 1725.33 / 7843.52 Av. mpg / km/ltr 58.3 / 20.52 Cost per day ( excl fuel ) £6.07 Maintenance includes fitting of a new clutch pack & flywheel + transmission service. The rest being usual tyres, wipers, servicing etc all of which was carried out by an indy. Dull I know, but something to do whilst waiting for a courier to turn up, albeit a day later than arranged.
  4. Well Toyota GR Yaris are aplenty. Probably the best fast small car. Insurance might be high. I do not fit in one very well, i tried an automatic at a special dealers day and knew i would get more points or a ban as i would be tempted to show anyone up my arse just how well it went.
  5. I'm retired now, so the RS will have to fund the majority of the replacement. I'm going to avoid a Golf GTi as it's broadly similar in insurance, BMW not interested in, for the insurance costs. Looking at small hatchback, Toyota Yaris GT or similar size
  6. You need to go to the Skoda dealership for this; Component Protection is to stop stolen units from being put into other cars. You will need to go (with proof of ownership) and a receipt of the new unit (from somewhere reputable). Skoda dealers will only undo component protection after they have this information.
  7. If you are thinking of a 4WD Diesel Karoq, beware. Because of the rear differential taking up space where the adblue tank, and controller fits, they have had to move the control unit, would you believe, to be under the rear offside wheelarch! Guess what? It gets water in it, shorts out, flattens your battery at 3-10 in the morning and costs £300 for a replacement unit. Fortunately I have a warranty. (the units are £45 on ebay!) I didnt know but adblue freezes at -11°C.
  8. Crikey, I had a bit more fiddle and asked the pooter to remove the white boat. Took a few goes and a bit of a fiddle and it did this. I doubt it would stand up with a hi-res photo, but it is a bit spooky, all this Ai stuff. Now where can I order a 'replicator' like they have in Star Trek?
  9. Agreed mate, simple innit🤷🏻‍♂️

  11. **SOLD** Make & Model: 2013 Skoda Octavia Mk3 Estate, 1.6 TDI Elegance Colour: Blue Mileage: ~135'000 Price: £3700 Description: *** Now MOT'd and had some work done! *** Blue, 2013, Elegance spec (1 from top) Estate, it has half leather interior, 8" columbus sat nav, upgraded speakers, bluetooth hands free, satnav, factory DAB and most of the toys you'd want - auto wipers, auto lights, adjustable lumbar (very comfy seats!), heated windscreen and heated seats. Free to tax and 74mpg! Both original keys included, MOT until 16th October 2025. This has been my daily driver for the past 5 years, my 3rd Skoda, replaced with a 4th! Only up for sale now thanks to a deal I couldn't say no to on a hand-me-down 2018 Superb. It's been in the family since it was ~4 yrs old, when my dad became it's second owner. Drop me a line on 07828 288 697 Condition: Service History/Receipts/Recent Service work: I was planning on running it into the ground, so not kept great records, but it's been serviced regularly either by a local garage or yours truly! Oil (correct spec, fully synthetic) and oil filter every year, air and cabin filters cleaned annually and replaced biannually. Fuel filter and timing belt / water pump and a couple of brake discs were done ~4 years ago. Belt recommendation is 130k miles or 5 years, so due in another year on time, not miles - though on the continent, the recommendation is 210km, with no time limit - so it's up to you! Battery was replaced with the correct AGM type in 2020. There is no DMF to replace (or cause problems!) on this variant of the engine, though it could use a new clutch - it's not slipping at all though, so no urgency. Just today have picked it up following some work done at a local garage - fresh MOT (good till October 2025!), new front brake pads, and a service - oil change (fully synthetic 504/507) new sump plug, air and cabin filters. I've also had it cleaned inside and out and polished! A great daily driver! Extras/Mods: It has a quality tow bar fitted, by a local specialist, with hookup, at least 1 key and even (I think, in the bag!) the manual. Original bumper bracing bar, removed for the fit, also included, as shown in the boot! It only ever towed a cycle rack. It's had an aftermarket stereo in it for a while, which I've now replaced for sale with the factory Columbus unit. However, I left the 1080p rear parking camera and additional microphone in place, and am including an add-on, ultra-widescreen Android Auto / Apple Carplay device, which you can use alongside the factory radio to add that functionality. Alternatively, I think you can wire up the camera to the original radio, though I never tried myself. Shipping: No shipping! Collection: From a village near Ely, Cambridgeshire, CB7 Pictures:
  12. Out snapping the local pond life and also trying out a new macro lens.
  13. It'll be a few days before i get a comfortable hour to search erwin, will come back, thanks again
  14. That's not your fault, they will (or should) have inspected that car thoroughly before putting it on their forecourt as approved used. I'm sure they'll sort it.

I didn't really think anything of it. I drive probably 4 months of the year on ice / snow, so when it thumped a couple of times after crossing other roads and the power being allowed through and then not again, I didn't really think much of it, just that that was "how it should be" but "that was not good, should get that sorted if it happens too much". You could really feel the power being pushed around though, also on gravel (we have lots, and lots of it is 80km/h limited). With the oil changed, that completely went away. Was a joy to drift on the ice, just needed to remember to keep my foot in to prolong the slide... and then sit and wait for the power and grip to be enough to push it straight again. Same thing at any traffic light or roundabout - keep the foot in a little too long, a dab of oppo and we're good. ESP even allows it, especially in ESC sport mode. correct, my mistake.
  16. Yes. That's a common behavior.
  17. 3V0075111 & 3V0075101 fitted to my 2023 F/L (Superb 3V) model OK. They were sold for 2015-2023 model, so I guess the F/L is different
  18. Bit (OK, a lot) heretical on this forum but what about a Hyundai i30N? My nephew has one, quite impressive. https://www.hyundai-n.com/en/models/n/i30-n.do
  19. I'd go for a the non rsline fabia I think they are called sport monte Carlo or something, very similar looking and still a nippy engine. How much do you value comfort as they aren't going to be as good as the Octavia.
  20. The side bolstering on the "sports" seats stop the seat from fully folding forward. Prior to my Yeti I had a VW Touran and I managed to spec this with such a seat. Both vehicles are built on the same platform and you may find you could swap a seat over from the Touran. Colin
  21. BS is their business model. They hired in professionals and get whoever has time and a laptop.
  22. I've just seen an image & video on Facebook of a mk4 vRS dash that has a G-Meter as the right hand side "widget/info" on the Sport style screen with the long rev counter across the top of the screen. I've had a look on mine and i don't seem to have the ability to show a G-Meter (MY22 car). Is it something that is hidden in a menu somewhere rather than just scrolling through the available options or was this something that was added when the updated virtual cockpit was introduced (Along with the newer style sat-nav display with the dials over the top of the map) or is it even just something that isn't on UK spec cars?
  23. Cheers..... At least it's not just me not seeing it somewhere. I've just noted it mentions it as one of the one-click apps on their site. I'm toying with getting one of their dongles so will enable it when i do get one.

Well, I was not putting the inflation factor on the table. CPI inflation rate from November 2020 to June 2024 is 21.3%. Our price tag for the car was 47 k€ in 2020 euro value; 57 k€ in 2024 euro value. With more or less same extras today is quoted in 53 k€ 2024 euro value, 4k€ cheaper.
  25. In my 2023 Superb you simply close the door and press the lock button twice. The red alarm light flashes briefly and then doesn’t flash again - job done.
  26. Hi @WaveyDavey, The G-Meter extra option on VC can be codded with OBD11: G-meter (Checked) Control unit 17 - Adaption- Configuration of displayable contents - G-meter -> active Control unit 5F - Adaptation - Vehicle function list BAP compass_0x15: activated compass_0x15_msg_bus: Databus_Infotainment Cheers

I’m not entirely sure but i believe the system was there but not activated until 7th July
  28. I’ve just signed up, I’ll have a look 👍 although I’m not spending any money on mapping now, I’ve spent way more than I should of done already 🤣🤣

It's probably related to this new nanny legislation. https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/new-car-speed-limiter-laws-takes-effect-next-month-what-you-need-to-know-aGhzM8o8XXcf
  30. 1 point
Hmm this sounds like the new nanny state speed limiter requirements. I suspect you can disable in vcds etc but might now invalidate insurance etc should the worse happen. Easy way to turn them off, don’t drive up people’s arses and obey speed limits 😁
  31. Frightening isn't it. Apparently this is a beta type release, so it's only going to get better! Just watched a vid on it and they reckon that if you were to ask the Ai to remove a pair of sunglasses, it would add a set of eyes to the newly revealed face, as it knows humans have eyes (obviously it will have to guess at eye colour and shape, but even so! It's also running all this on my rather old pooter and not crunching those numbers on a remote web server/pooter thingie.
  32. I went to RIAT 2024 at Fairford on Sunday and took quite a few photos, but sadly the weather was once again not playing ball, although it never rained, every time I went to take a nice photo, the sun seemed to nip behind a cloud and for a decent photo of a warplane, it needs to be in full sunlight. Grey planes against an overcast sky is not the best shot to take. However, here a few of the most memorable and impressive planes flying, not in full display mode as I was at the far right of the runway and the centre of the display axis was some 1,300 metres to my left, so only managed to get take off and landing shots mainly.
  33. Mudflaps between pre-facelift and facelift "should" b the same as the body panels down there haven't changed. But then again, manufacturers like to play games n change things up to mess with us.
  34. There you go, fixed that bridge view, temporarily for you without the white boat in the foreground taking the attention.
  35. You don't need to jack the car up, just loosen the sump plug, slide the drain pan under and remove the loose plug and leave it to drain, then replace the plug and move the pan under the filter, remove that and drop it in the pan, clean up, fit new filter hand-tight and refill with fresh oil. I did mine last weekend and mine is lowered 30mm, still did it without a jack!
  36. I’ve never turned the 280’s off, nor the MKII nor the MKI before that… and not the Octavia before that!
  37. What tax revenue are Scottish Councils losing because of EV,s? They have fleets of them their selves. If they were to stop blocking or refusing solar farms and battery farms and actually encouraging those wanting to put them up have them on public land, COMMON GOOD land, which there is lots of, and redundant Greenfield sites that are not getting housing on anyway and is reclaimed refuse / dumps that have to lay dormant for many years. Get rental income in from that being used. The councils need the renewables to cut their emissions and costs. This is Scotland not England that had had a ban on new onshore wind for near a decade. This is where there is much more electricity than the country can use and where it can not all be exported because the National Grid is not up to it.
  38. I do run the A/C / Climate regularly for demisting & to keep the system seals from drying out (ex AC industry engineer). I just don't use the A/C for prolonged periods due to the low annual mileage & the rubbish summer temps we've been experiencing of late. You don't need mechanical A/C running when it's only 17c outside! I've long since given up doing anything on our cars that's more than just washer fluid top ups, tyre rotation & a few other minor tasks. There was a time when I spent all my spare time under cars doing engine swaps, repairs, body modifications & the like. I liked doing it but it was mainly because I couldn't afford to pay others to do it for me. Then I got company cars so didn't have to worry about anything other than putting fuel in them. Now we own & run our own cars, I'm getting too old to be getting under cars & can afford to have a local garage maintain them for us - just. I agree on the independence thing but it's also the convenience of being able to jump in a car whenever I need to do something on a whim & to get from A to B without having to do D-Day type logistic planning 3 days in advance. Today's a prime example. My car's in the garage & my wife has gone out with a friend on a whim so I'm stuck at home until she gets back & takes me to pick my car up later today. I haven't used a bus or a overland train since I can't remember when & I avoid them like the plague. That said if my wife & I go anywhere together locally, or further afield on a 1 day return trip, we nearly always takes her EV cos it's so much cheaper to run & we haven't used a public charger since we got it over a year ago. My car gets used for longer journeys, holidays or if we need to haul something that's too large for her car. The other snag is that while I have no problem driving my wife's car she doesn't like driving mine because it's too big for her!! I'm still not sure if we / I am ready to drop down to a single car yet. I guess all the while we can afford to run 2 cars we won't change but I'm sure there will come a time when we will have to consider it.
  39. Slight update, having used the car for a whole 4 mile journey it rewarded me by doing a wee on the garage floor. The resultant oil leak was the size of a beer mat to give some context on the puddle side. Turns out the driveshaft seal in the gearbox has given its papers in and decided it didn't want to seal anymore. Downsides of a little used car i guess? New seal en-route so hopefully i'll be back on the road asap.
  40. Yes it does both and works fine on our Kodiaq which we regularly use on ferries to and from Belfast. One thing to be wary of though is that it automatically resets both to 'on' when you next unlock. So if you lock the car on the ferry and then realise you've forgotten something and unlock and open the car to get it you'll need to turn the ignition on and untick the box again...
  41. My new 2021 sportline diesel
  42. In general, I would suggest ignoring anything marketed for "gaming". It's overpriced junk. Focus on office chairs, especially 'operator' chairs designed for 24 hour use, such as dispatchers, reception, security or similar. They usually have quite firm padding, but this is what makes them so supportive and comfortable over long periods. You can find a Pledge Solar for quite reasonable money and it has a wealth of adjustment. Ticks all your boxes and beyond, including inflatable lumbar support.
  43. It wasn't done to my Superb today, and it wasn't even me who did it, but here's a tale for anyone who's interested. My car was booked in with the usual local independent in a few weeks time to have new brakes, an MOT and look at the rear screen squibber, which wasn't squibbing. In the meantime we took a 10-day holiday in Perthshire, and on one day, on accelerating up a slip road and joining motorway traffic, various alarm and warnings suddenly started appearing on the dash - stability control, hill hold, ABS, cornering lights, front assist and park assist. Subsequent to that, on a number of occasions at car park speeds, the engine would temporarily refuse to rev enough to move the car properly, and on one occasion it revved without me using the accelerator, so that I had to brake to slow the car down. I had guessed from previous experience that an ABS sensor might be to blame for the warning messages, so I took it to the nearest Skoda dealer who, surprisingly, was able to fit me in for a diagnostic the following day. Following the diagnosis (£69) and their apparently routine "health check", I was advised that the following were required :- * OSR wheel bearing and sensor : £607.42 * NSF wheel bearing and sensor : £624.82 * front brake discs : £769.33 Total £2001.57 They said that the car was safe to drive, so I continued with my holiday and, on my return, took the car to the independent garage for the brakes and MOT, plus this new extra work. They confirmed the diagnosis, fitted new front and rear discs and pads, fitted both wheel bearings/sensors and carried out the MOT, for a grand total of £1234.60 ! Now, genuine Skoda parts may or may not be of better quality (although I've never needed new wheel bearings on a car before, so possibly not) but to get the same work that Skoda quoted for, plus rear brakes, plus an MOT, from an independent (who I trust implicitly) for £835.97 less was something of an eye-opener. As an aside, Skoda had said that the wipers were not clearing and required replacement, even though they were, and still are, clearing the screens perfectly well. They quoted me £63.72 for the front pair, and another £63.72 for the rear one, when I can get the Bosch Aerotwin front pair for £27.05 and the rear for £10.58 from wiperblades.co.uk as I write, and I know for a fact that they are considerably better than the Skoda items. Interestingly, while they were discovering that the wipers weren't clearing the screens, they failed to notice that nothing was coming out of the blocked rear squibber ! Anyway, I needed to get that off my chest - thanks for reading. Incidentally, I posted something a couple of months ago about press reports that a hard-wired dashcam was considered a "modification" by insurers, and might void the policy if they hadn't been advised of it. I informed mine (LV) at renewal time last month and, once I finally got someone who knew what they were talking about, was told that they considered it to be a "safety feature", rather than a modification, with no effect on my premium - it's probably worth informing your own insurers, though, just in case.
  44. You get the idea, if you need to ask "why?" please see the front wheel. Gotta wait till I can afford & sort some tyres now but they are nice & light at 8.8kg. Was a toss up between the Matt Grey or Bronze so I decided I'd go "a bit different "this time.
  45. My favourite photo of this car to date 😄 I deffo wasn’t overtaking and gapping that Porsche, although I’ll happily let you think that 🤣🤣🤣
  46. This is good advice. I spent a while in Ikea checking out all the seats before settling on the one I did. The adjustable lumbar support did it for me, but I'm a big bloke (6'4") so I need a big chair with decent back support. Definitely try before you buy.
  47. @Crucian IME one recommendation over another rarely helps when asking for a recommendation for something such as a chair. I think the best thing you can do is get to an office supplies place/ furniture store and try them out for yourself. Maybe PC World even have some now IDK We're all different shapes and sizes etc so what might work for person A may well be completely inappropriate for the next person.
  48. As the title suggests, I’ve been playing around with a Kufatec sound booster on my SuperB. I was never really happy with any of the EA888 exhaust options. None of them could fill the V8/EJ25 shaped hole on my heart so decided to have some fun with it. Scrounged together the parts second hand over about 12 months and eventually got it all together. There is no space under the car for the sound module so put it in the spare wheel well. This is not a big deal for me as the space saver spare doesn’t fit over my big brakes anyway so was an easy option. Used expanding foam and Sika flex to hold it in place. The module outlet faces down over one of the bung plugs in the wheel well…. I got my hands on a few OEM exhaust sound modules including the Kodiaq RS, Audi SQ5 and Maserati Ghibli. The Kodiaq module has profiles that are very diesel sounding. The Audi module is better but the way it translates revs sounds quite artificial. Profile 3 on the Audi module was my favorite. The Maserati module has the most realistic output in my opinion. Seems to have more layered and chaotic engine noises that are less linear on acceleration than the Kodiaq and Audi modules. The profiles are quite loud and day to day I’ve dialed the volume back to around 40-50% to give a slight but noticeable burble above the stock exhaust. To give the best indication of the result here is a video of the full-fat profile 5 option with 70-100% volume, irregular idle and a slight startup flare with the Maserati module… The intention is to keep this for the sloppy V8 burble and go to stage 2 and get some DSG farts on top of it.
  49. I've hired the Canon 300mm F2.8 II from Calumet and it's a great deal. Pick the lens up on Friday and return it Monday morning, total cost including insurance that Calumet sort is around £60 (not hired for a couple of years so it may have gone up a little). Still great value for 2.5 days on a lens that cost around £6k when new
  50. I'm pretty certain that if you deactivated in the infotainment menu, or push the remote lock button twice in succession, this not only does this deactivate the interior sensor but also deactivates the tilt sensors. Therefore the alarm is totally deactivated.
