  1. Thanks for the idea @mac11irl, but I believe VCDS has shown me enough evidence to reject the nice solution. Engine coolant temp and oil temp as read via engine ECU data are both very similar to what dash gauge is saying. I got a £184 quote for replacement of thermostat from the garage that gave it sn MOT on Thursday. When questioned, they told me this was for a pattern part too! So a genuine stat is arriving Monday via ebay and will be fitted by me in the next week or so. It should be a good opportunity to familiarise myself a bit with one side of the engine, and maybe give the alternator a look over while it's off.
  2. Came into the garden last night trying to catch a goldfinch ,taken through window with a big lense so a tad grainy ,fantastic to see it tho young male i think .
  3. I recall @KenONeill having strongly expressed views some years back on not using pattern thermostats. Don't know if that situation is still true?
  4. The nrw Superb has arrived! Very happy but unsure if the creaking sunroof is common and if there is any updates or fixes?
  5. +1 👍 Micks one's obviously more photogenic. Mine comes through somewhat akin to the Millennium Falcon making the jump to light speed 🙄 We only had one sunflower this year, the rest were eaten by slugs and snails. It's just made it above our 6' garden wall, so can watch the Sun go down: Gaz
  6. Great shots, Mick
  7. Both front bearings changed. Did torgue the axle bolts to the spec in the service manual 200 Nm + 180° 200nm was easy, the +180 on top was bit harder but with long enough extension doable.
  8. Yeah, modest hassle to change stat so it's going to be genuine and tested in boiling water first, I reckon.
  9. pattern stats and sensors are just a waste of time and effort..
  10. Every wheel is pictured in the Skoda wheels brochure https://www.skoda-auto.com/_doc/6d5c59b3-5d97-451a-ab78-2ef185e6e373
  11. Possibly the button to turn off the internal alarm sensors.
  12. I started my own detailing venture last year so went and got trained properly including a qualification with the International Detailing Association. Did a lot of study on the basic chemistry, and it is basic chemistry, to understand what products we use, why, what not to use and how products seemingly similar in name/type can work in different ways. I found it really interesting…and scary how many people either don’t know what they’re talking about but also those that offer a correct solution to someone but clearly don’t know why, just going with what they know.
  13. First engine problem noticed yesterday afternoon. Took it for a dual carriageway and motorway run to clear out some cobwebs, and even after 45 minutes the indicated coolant temperature still hadn't climbed past 70°C. Stat is tucked behind/below alternator, so not a 10 minute job. Have asked the garage doing the MOT to quote for it, but expect it's going to be too much, so will probably DIY. Amusingly, staring at the engine looking for stat location was the first time I'd realised that the engine is a different way round to what I'm used to; longitudinal.

Browsing brochure for Kamiq SE L and found that rear shock absorption is a feature of this trim level (see below). Unsure of what feature this could be (crash protection or what) I contacted Skoda customer service and was utterly astounded to receive the reply below. I tried hard to explain that rear suspension/ shock absorbers have been standard on all cars since before I learned to drive in mid 1960’s - obviously someone told to make a up a number of bullet points with no understanding of cars. 🤯
  15. I have bilstein top mounts with OEM bearings. Mainly because I just ordered them with the shocks. Running the same pro springs now as well. All good. No issues. Drives a lot better whether loaded or empty.
  16. Approved used Full service history 1 owner 3 miles
  17. Seem to happen with Nissan LEAFs and then being unwarehoused but then they are made in uk ie Sunderland (ha ha Sunderland, beaten by Argyle). Zoes were mass taken on to lease in their thousands and then splurged on to the market is why Renault dealers do not want them back but they are still great cars to run for about 20p a mile and claim 45p a mile for. The full story is very complex but boils down to how much a month to rent and run. UK Treasury rates for car mileage are so far behind real running costs and pay per mile will make it worse ie that will need adding on to Treasury rates to pay those making journeys for work, civil duties etc. Then many by cars as statements as well as work tools they are getting annual and pet mile allowances for and many payout far more than these allowances so a 3 year old LEAF for silly money may work even if only a 39 kwh battery and therefore circa 150 mile range and charging with a granny charger cable.
  18. The discussion I heard was about how EV's are being registered then stored, being sold later even to the point of calling them second hand up to two years later and how that was affecting the used car market in general. But people hear what they want to hear.
  19. Re the MINI comparison vid. Ok the Oxford built Mini Cooper S was a 2.0 lt automatic with sport box option so paddles. He never bothered to mention that without an S you can have a 1.5 TSI Automatic which still does the same trip at the same speeds and uses less fuel. Maybe on narrower tyres on smaller wheels. Drives loads better. Biggest omission is re the New Electric Mini. The SE he had, bigger battery, more power, heavier, but there is the MINI Cooper E and that would have needed charging as well. Same time to charge as 75kW max. But the lighter car is more efficient. Smaller Battery less power, lighter. very relevant. As is Tesla non Tesla charging at half InstaVolt prices. I never understand why they think an Adult will fit behind the driver. Either put 2 in the back. Or as a MINI really works. 3 people and the seat behind the driver dropped to get cases or stuff in.. A short lift for 3 passengers means a double leg amp or child behind a driver. I never get the higher seat thing. There is no battery under the seats like in a Stellantis car. The battery is under the interior floor and the battery bottom above the ground. The seat base is the same height from the floor. It is just the floor is higher from the ground inside. The floor to sill height is the same. I never actually see any of the reviewers with seat fully down and fully back as I drive. Which is why my short arms, finger tips do not reach the Experience rocker or the drive mode it anything more than half way across the screen without bending forward. I need the seat back for my position to drive, use pedals, and I have the steering wheel back and lowest it goes. They are Sh|te IMO, but the cheaper less powerful and lighter ones are better drivers than the more powerful and heavier . Then the torque steer is not fun. It is crap ECO sporty tyres with little grip / traction / friction / safety.
  20. Not used the Superb much over the last couple of weeks, so no update. However, I did a trip to Carlisle from St Andrews and back last Thursday, so about 360 miles all in. No indication of any problems, so it looks like the new battery has fixed it. Good to know, as I would never have thought of it, as the battery was starting the car with no bother at all, and nothing picked up on its annual service. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread, and came up with the solution.
  21. According to the manual it switches between 'Travel Assist' and 'Adaptive Cruise control(ACC)' . So unless the vehicle has the option fitted it won't be there.
  22. Skoda UK pervious recommendation for cambelt replacement at 5 years, regardless of mileage, was always out of step with remainder of VW Group manufacturer's (who use exactly the same engines) Skoda UK revised the cambelt replacement interval to match the others around the middle of last year.
  23. Hi all posted a week or so ago about suspensuion bushes, the noise was from the drop links but noticed that the rear bush on the wishbone/control arm was starting to split. Was looking to replace these with the better slid ones like I did on my old MK2 but was not sure about the part numbers for the MK3, I have now sorted the issue with a solid bush from Meyle part number is Meyle 100 407 0073/HD, these bushes are not listed for the Skoda but for Audi A1 and Audi TT 2012 but they are a perfect fit for the pressed steel arm that's fitted to my 2019
  24. I run a 2010 1.6tdi Golf - bought it new when the belt interval was hailed as being 100k - that was quickly revised down shortly after to 5 years. If the new belts are indeed 140k with no time limit why doesn’t the criteria apply to earlier engines after a belt change? In the 80’s when belts became fashionable I was in the driving tuition business and lots of my competitors were suffering expensive premature failure with no help from manufacturers. The reason given I recall was that lots of engine stalling puts excessive sudden strain on the belt. Could have been true? Either way, despite my Golf being DSG and thereby giving the engine a easier life I’ve stuck to the 5 year regime, coming up to my third change in a couple of months - the pain and expense suffered by my competitors all those years ago still has a haunting effect on me….😁
  25. Yes, I've noticed this. There was a 10ppl difference for some time. This was Saturday at Sainsbury's.
  26. I can also confirm the new osram night breaker laser fogs are much brighter than originals, I can now actually see them work at cornering lights. I used them as fog lights on an empty road and lights up the side much better too, so happy purchase for them as well
  27. My L&K already had the insulation from the factory and even had foam tape stuck on when the wheel arch liner was out.
  28. As gaz says it turns off internal sensors for alarm .
  29. This is something that kinda annoys me, they're made to defog the side windows and no air comes out of them regardless of setting and position
  30. Swap them from side to side always helps. Thanks AG Falco

Could possibly be translation of rear crash absorption.
  32. Yes, my Michelin Cross Climates made a massive difference compared to the previous Dunlop SportMaxxs. I'm always interested in 'simple' add-ons to reduce the cabin noise further.
  33. @Dooge great choice and great spec, you will enjoy it. I have basically the same except mines a wagon in business grey. Mine didn't have DCC, I've had Bilstein B12, Eibach springs, h&r rear ARB fitted they transformed how the car felt with it's wallowy feel. Great choice though as a family car and most people haven't a clue what it is. Enjoy.
  34. Just collected today. 6000 kilometres showing and very happy after a few hours behind the wheel. mk111 , I assume but registered Feb this year. Pleased to say it has all of the kit I wanted, inc reversing camera, heated seats, heated steering wheel. In fact the only (very small) thing missing is wireless charging. Sure I will get over it !
  35. Better than expected in all respects. Just over 58mpg and mostly short runs with air con atm.
  36. Oddly enough has anyone else noticed how the delta between PPL for diesel and PPL for petrol has been dropping recently? For example my local petrol station fiesel is 134.9ppl & petrol is 132.9ppl which is a delta of 4ppl whereas it only seems like a few weeks or so ago that delta was hovering closer to 10ppl. NB Premium Diesel & Super Unleaded are both 164.9ppl
  37. That's ood mine does all the time, maybe you have disabled the notification warnings on the mib unit or something, mine even lower the radio\Media to hear the Beep.
  38. As in a pic? Not much to say about it, appearance-wise. "It's a car, in a boring colour" 😁
  39. Latest Updated Speedcams - September, 2024. Here's the latest update of my customised version of EUR Speedcams ( September, 2024 ). They consist of the full EUROPE speed cameras which I've split up into four consolidated poi categories i.e. Redlight Speedcams, Fixed Speedcams, Average Speedcams and Variable Speedcams. They come supplied with my own preferred personal choice of icons, shown below, to match each of the speedcam categories. Remember to Install them as I explained in the first post in this thread i.e. after extracting the zip file remember to open the newly extracted folder and place only the PersonalPOI folder and metainfo2.txt file onto your sd card ( Please Note: a usb stick will not work! ). Also, please remember to select/tick the relevant newly added poi categories and the poi audible warning alert in your infotainment map menu settings after performing the update or they will not display on your map or audibly alert you. Hope you all enjoy them! EUR Speedcams - September, 2024.zip * Credit, past and present, to Nyky from Gpsurl for the use of his database without which these files would not be compiled.
  40. My Superb L&K from year 2020.
  41. why is it unfair? It's still less tax then is imposed overall on petrol & diesel. Why should EV owners pay less tax or get preferential treatment? Perfectly acceptable that Public chargers have VAT added at 20%
  42. @Winston_Woof watch this space as they say, the signs are looking likely that there will be a massive delay in the Zero Tailpipe emissions plan in the not so distant timeline. I always had my doubts about the speed of change from a tried and tested technology to a new and emerging one that we are not yet fully aware of all its pitfalls. Yes, there are many arguments for it on a pure local level, but there are other disadvantages, some known already, but many are prepared to sweep them under the carpet so to speak and label them as project fear all over again. It might help us all if we could all see our leaders all put their money where their mouth is and lead from the front, but when they are still going around in their far more polluting cars than most of ours are, you wonder why is that? I expect somebody will say it's because their cars are armoured and they of course need that protection, well if that is true now, it will also be true in 2030/35 when ever the date will be when the total ban on new ICE cars comes into force. My late father was a military man, and he always told me that the military had a motto about leading from the front, never ask / tell anyone to do something that you are not prepared to do yourself and the best way to prove that you are prepared to do it, is to be seen to be doing it for all to see.
  43. I’ve had my 280 for just short of 4 weeks now and she is sat outside a chalet in the Vendee’ while we take a 2 week break. Never missed a beat and has returned over 35mpg while loaded to the parcel shelf.
  44. Find a local VAG specialist and use them.
  45. Thought I would make sure they fit OK, they do fit with loads of clearance and I also believe they are going to look rather nice
