  1. Taken from my kitchen window this morning - there are nicer things out there than Skoda Superbs!
  2. The main advantage of 4x4 for most people, is the ability to move off briskly eg on an uphill join to a roundabout on wet roads, without a hint of wheelspin. Our other car is a Mini Cooper S which is 2wd but quite quick, however the wheelspin thing on wet roads is annoying.
  3. Reliability will be affected by what driving your do, as the diesel will have a dpf and so is not suited to lots of short journeys.
  4. I'll take that infinitesimal risk - I was present when the accessor went over my mothers Honda Jazz - a walk around, mileage check and he was on his way to the next one...........
  5. Yes, and I found Rain-X Anti-Fog quite effective.

For £60 a pair of shocks & £38 a pair of springs, why bother with breakers?? Is it worth putting second hand parts on.?
  7. Thank you so much for coming back to me. I've checked that website that you linked to and it's come back with the 027 battery, which is the same as the Halfords one. Our Roomster is a 1.6 Diesel and it does not have Stop/Start assist. The guy from Halfords took the cover off of our current battery and showed me that it had a BEM code on it, but I guess that doesn't necessarily mean that that code has been used to link it to the car?
  8. Hello from Czechia! I joined this forum since I am about to place an order for a new Octavia IV Facelift with a 2.0 TDI 110 KW engine and a DSG 7 gearbox. Can someone tell me what engine code does Skoda install nowadays? Is it EA288 Evo? What about the gearbox? Thank you!

This is why it's a good idea to remove your wheel arch liners once in a while... Some small rodent type thing/s had clearly spent a comfortable time in the snug spaces. But, there was also a lot of wet and damp dirt/mud low down in the places where rust could start at the front ends of the sills. I'll be washing it all out and then sloshing Waxoyl everywhere, before putting the liners back in with a recipe for squirrel pie as a deterrent for any future would-be dwellers.
  10. Drips down from there, yes.
  11. Cheers mate appreciate your help, so the lower EGR cooler pipe ( U shape) kept breaking, so I just blanked it using an egr blanking plate and gaskets, Ok will need to look at that, I thought I may be able to change the measurements for the EGR on the vcds but I'm using the 24.7.1v so that option is no longer possible
  12. I have removed the plastic jets which appear to be unblocked. I think I've spotted a wet hose under the bulkhead tray so I suspect there's a leak allowing the screenwash to drain down to a certain level in the hose between sprays, thereby requiring a delay to fill back up, and poor pressure because of the leak. I have an RAC warrant from the dealer - taking it back to them.
  13. Squeezy / Detergent / Washing up liquid in water works as an anti fog as well to help on the glass inside. Like we might have used on our swimming goggles when young and there was nothing else. Well other than spitting, but you need a lot of spit for a windscreen.
  14. Thanks. I agree 🙂 My goof up! I've had 2 cars on the go & was in the wrong forum asking about the wrong car. Sorry to waste your time. Thanks for the quick replies. Never do things in a hurry & in a meeting when only half concentrating
  15. The fee for charging at charge points is not just for the electricity but largely for recouping cost of the capital equipment. My company at the time ie Bollore, owned Source London, now 2.500 charges in London and Birmingham which cost cost thousands for single phase and tens of thousands for 3 phase chargers so much of that pence per kilowatt hour os for the recoup of CAPEX. Those of use with home chargers have paid hundreds if not a grand or so for chargers installed at home to tap in to house mains and supply 7 kW to the EVs, quite an investment that takes many thousands of kWhs of cheaper electricity to recoup that CAPEX, albeit it might add some value to the house when sold having EV chargers installed. The hardware does not come cheap and the installers are not on peanuts either as anyone who employs electricians knows, a good trade to be in then and now increasingly.
  16. Someone will help, but looking at the various threads there are over the years can pass the time til they do.
  17. Not that I know of. The normal procedure is to extract and weigh the refrigerant in the system.
  18. @Danoid - In short yes. I advise taking the car to an automotive A/C specialist and not a Skoda main stealer!
  19. My car is 8 months old and uses a EFB+ battery. my battery aging performance is down to 83% and my battery aging charged related is down to 80%. Maybe it’s not reliable.
  20. The engine type is in the text, not the thread title, but I missed it also.
  21. Remember that I drove to Poland and picked the new unit myself, but I'm sure you could get something similar arranged.
  22. Take the AI generated answers on Google with a pinch of salt. But is what the answer it gives to the search. Simples. If you have a car and no STOP / START OFF button then likely does not have Stop / Start.
  23. In Norway, only rental companies buy gas cars, because tourists don't 'get' EVs " In 2024, 88.9% of cars sold in Norway were all-electric, up from 82.4% in 2023." Also, I'm heading over there this August for some sight seeing. Will definitely rent an EV, absolutely no way getting ICE with Norway's infrastructure.
  24. It didn't effect that engine. You should be all good.
  25. The TDI 2.0 180/190 engines do feel lovely and peppy. They are quick and if you find a VRS with 4x4, they are super grippy too. I can say that the TSI engines are also good and again it depends on how progressive you are. If you want out/out power, then the TSI's go the extra mile. If you want quick, lots of torque without the wheel scrabling action, then a TDI is just great. Echo @Ultrasonic about making sure they you use it on long journeys. They don't like short journeys.
  26. Looking forward to hearing from them & assisting you with what they found out by asking those who,s job is remapping vehicles.
  27. Damn! My silly comment has set a few of us off!! I take it back!! 😆
  28. At the moment it is equipped with NGK Iridium BKR7EIX plugs, R8 coils and RTMG adapter plate. I'm not going to lie I have very little knowledge about it so I'm not sure if these are good or bad but it is an aftermarket mod? I think I could find that oil here in Au and easy to get 98, just have to pay the price tag for it.
  29. Sounds good. Timing chain and water pump done and 2 belts. The Supercharger clutch is part of the water pump. Just a case of using good Spark Plugs then & i recommend DENSO, & not Long Life Oil, even in Australia. so not the VW 504 00 / 507 00, 5w 30 FS III, but 5w 40 FS, so VW502 00. (Change this on a fixed service regime, 12 months, 9,400 miles or sooner.) & 98 ron Super Unleaded if you can get it. The 3.6 litres oil is not enough, that should always have been 3.9 litres with a Twin Charger. I used to put in 4 litres at oil and filter changes and that was the correct level checked with hot oil. @ the top of the Cross Hatch area on the dipstick. (The issue with 3.6 litres and then the Low oil warning light not on until sometimes 1.3 litres low was the death of many twinchargers.)
  30. Give it up George... There's no point arguing with him... As you said earlier he's blind to the point of the discussion taking place. It often happens with 'evangelists' of any sort... They just can't see past the end of Thier own nose.
  31. I had the exact same problem on my 2018 Karoq. Seals appeared to be fine. I dried out the light on the radiator for 3 days and sealed round the whole lamp where it meets the black lamp body with silicone seal. It seems to be fine now.
  32. After 10 faithful years, my VRS Octavia has gone onto the dealer network. Hopefully the next owner enjoys it as much as I have. It will be missed.
  33. I know, so did I but even now many people choose to ignore that fact. That divide is already upon us and it is those that are "the haves" are worst at acknowledging the truth in my experience and are generally the ones trying to tell everyone what they should be doing.
  34. Yep that's fine for you in your situation, whereas I have no access to a power point where I park my car and don't own a charger. Whatever works best for each individual is obviously the easiest way to do it. My comment was merely to highlight the fact that you can do it without a charger and with the engine running, as in the main post and explanation it suggests you need to have the engine switched off, which isn't true. Just for those of us like me where following the process you used would be impractical 👍🏼🙂
  35. I prefer the aero covers on as will be easier to clean with sponge! I think for the facelift, I feel as though I can just jump in the car and get going without having to wait for the entertainment system to reset, boot up and then switch off various settings because your preferences wouldn't be retained as in the pre-facelift. In the facelift a few button presses and I am good to go. Thank god the sound generator thing has gone because I would always select economy previously to get it switched off - now I just drive in normal mode and life is good and quiet with some sporty noises from the exhaust. Wireless charging and Apple CarPlay is fab - just put your phone down and it will charge, sync etc etc. and it doesn't need to be positioned in an exact sweet spot. I have Canton - difficult to tell the improvement over the stock system, must be better but bass doesn't shake the car or anything - probably more clear with additional speakers - would I get it again? probably. I also got a sunroof - not getting much action right now but really like it in spring/summer so glad I got it. Winter pack is great - obvs using it right now for heated screen and steering wheel. Infotainment system works very well and has had a significant improvement from previous version - responsive and screen a lot bigger. This is my 5th vRS estate and do miss the LED strips in the rear doors - I know this has gone for a wee while but just looks cheap and naff with the front doors having LED strips and then it just goes pitch black on the rear doors - am sure the bean counters could have afforded this in a £40k car. Can't think what else could be better but this is about it - so can't be all bad. No regrets about buying another vRS estate as I get no hassle from the dealer when buying new or servicing and Octavia's have not given me any grief over the years. Glad I bought this and not a Golf GTI - see ya VW!
  36. You will probably find that it will continue to start with its usual vigour, if it doesn't then definitely replace it. Is it time to replace? - Probably, not starting the vehicle after sidelights left on for 30 minutes indicates it has little reserve capacity remaining after 10 years of service, I dont suggest you have it tested as the results will be exactly that. If it continues to start OK then you have time to source the battery you want at the price you want, I would suggest upgrading to the larger capacity 060 version which seems to fit snugly in all the Skoda battery trays (take measurements to check), the cost is little more, sometimes even less for a significant extra capacity.
  37. "coded" would mean a battery that needs the car coding to it, normally a battery for a vehicle with an AGM-type battery. I don't believe the Roomster normally had these, but I could be wrong. Which engine is in your car (petrol or diesel, and the size)? Does it have stop-start assist? If you run your reg on this website, it's normally accurate about what it needed - https://www.tayna.co.uk/ Most garages can do the coding needed. If you've got a garage you trust, they'll normally test the battery that's on the car free or for very little, and let you know if it's getting on for replacement.
  38. Why do you want a picture? The answer to your question is the coil windings are copper winding wire, their usual failure mode is their connection to the connector terminals. What water does a cup of water contain except for the water in the cup?
  39. I got round to changing the battery today - a new 90AH Exide battery had arrived a few days ago. Thank you for the help and advice to everyone - swapping the old battery out was simple enough and all the fault lights disappeared once I'd swung the steering to and fro a couple of times. The Carista dongle prompted me to the app store as soon as the BT connected to my iPhone. The Carista software is simple enough to use - I chose the year's subscription for about £25 option - I probably could have got a free month by going for the £60/year/pay monthly option and cancelling it straight away, but that seemed a bit tightwad to me and I'm happy enough with £25. The software allowed me to change the capacity to 70 AH, the manufacturer to Exide and I gave it a different serial number, that only took a few minutes. Before I disconnected I ran the diagnosis programme and it picked up and cleared a few fault codes. I took the motorcar for a drive - long enough to get up to full temperature - and was surprised that the Stop/Start system has fixed itself. It probably stopped working a few years ago, but I never much liked it so that hadn't bothered me. Anyway - everything is working fine now and starting is no longer laboured. The old battery is still holding about 12.5v - around 80% charge - so I'll keep it as a workshop 12v source, which is always handy. Best wishes for a prosperous 2025. Alan
  40. The reason I ask is that there is a coolant thermostat for the gearbox in DSG equipped cars which is almost always found to be the cause of lower than ideal engine coolant temperature when it fails. Lots of threads about it in lots of the subforums.

use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bluetooth.vagerasedtcall with your existing OBD 2 adapter. should give you better reading than torque pro.
