  1. I have car 1.4tsi 17plate dsg, with warranty on it, Brakea not covered wear and tear part Oil leaks, any leaks covered Undertray cover, scrap yard, ebay etc Eml, car has to be given back to you with light cleared... Dealers responsibility
  2. I do understand your cynicism as I have enough bad experiences with the English motor trade to have a mountain of it but do have to give credit where it's deserved. OK yes it might be just upselling but if it is needed then it is, if is not of course that is another matter and if they want to sell it or actually offer a service then yes they need to give more information as an explanation of the benefit or need. In this case you put that they asked if you have a battery charger so it's not an out and out up sell, if they are finally advising customers about the need for battery recharging on these modern cars it is a good thing because as I put before many older drivers have forgot about this simple easy, clean hands car maintenance that can save a lot of time, hassle and money from car problems and breakdowns. It may also be the case that older drivers don't realise the greater need with the more modern cars but they should know really, where does the energy come from for all the driver comforts, "aids" and "assists", Just think of a list of all the electric items on a modern car, just with the buttons you can press to use them let alone all the ones the car itself uses. Let me assure you that from a previous life and experience generally I know that not all customers are great and many just want the bare minimum done to the vehicle often they don't really even the bare minimum but are forced into for some reason and even then they may ignore things like safety and statutory requirements and it's not a matter of they can't financially afford it. Obviously I have no idea of the state of charge of your battery and the Dealership could have been trying it on (again) but it is possible that the battery might need recharging it depends on many varying factors, or it might not desperately need recharging but might be best recharged. To force the undersized boot on to the other foot you did not have the figures for state of charge to know anyway, which is bad on their part. Also state of charge is not the full story about the battery but an indicator. There are many threads and posts on Briskoda for the various models of the issues that a battery in low state of charge has caused with the poster often unaware that the low state of charge is the cause of these unexpected warning lights, messages, error codes and issue(s). Of course not all issues are caused by low state of charge but many more than the average driver realises, the car 12v battery is very important and always has been but especially now on a more recent modern car. That may or may not be the case with your car, I can't know, or it could be a con I would never rule this out, but certainly there are many cars where it could well be the case that the battery needs recharging, to be more dishonest they would try to sell a new battery. I've not seen battery replacement mentioned at 2 years but I have 3, even VW put 4 years but there is no reason why those batteries could not have lasted a lot longer by the use of recharging, best done as a preventative measure than a distress need. Some people prefer to just use, abuse and neglect the 12v battery and replace it which is fine and their choice, to me that seems wasteful and expensive but it keeps the economy going round. So have you checked your battery to see if it does need recharging, that of course would be now rather than when at the Dealership.
  3. Might seem odd, but I don't know the servicing is necessarily all that far out. My car's a 2018 model, but was bought new by me in 2019. Transpose that to the car you're looking at and maybe it was sold in 2020, which, if it were on a long-life servicing schedule would make the 2022 service on time. This is of course conjecture on my part, but if it's the case then the next service might be due in 2024 and therefore was carried out five months overdue. Notwithstanding the schedules that Ootohere has already posted. And a brake fluid change is also going to be well overdue. I'd think it's been a company car doing distance work. If it were me, I'd go by condition, how it feels, and be prepared to walk away at the slightest concern or doubt. A high mileage car if fine if it's been well serviced, but as this one's borderline, I'd be prepared to be very critical. Maybe they'd consider extending the warranty in the circumstances to give you confidence and reassurance? Gaz
  4. Same here, I leave mine to 22c auto year round and never have an issue. If the ambient & car interior temps are hotter, it rapidly cools down to the set temp i.e. gets there within 2-3 mins. As always, mine did so this morning with 35c ambient and hotter still in the parked car. If those in cooler climes are setting to 16c when ambient temps are much lower, then the clima will heat up until 16c is reached as it's designed to do. There's nothing quirky with the Mk4 clima in my opinion, in fact I think it works brilliantly. As an aside, these cars (and all VAG cars AFAIK) are built with either a 'Cool' or 'Tropical' specification. The factory data sheet will show either code 0Y2 (Tropical) or 0Y3 (Cool) according to the car's import climate. I know mine is Mine 0Y2 Tropical and I imagine northern European countries would be set to Cool. Having said that, I don't think it has anything to do with the Clima calibration, I believe it designates the coolant type i.e. lower freezing point temp in Cool climate vehicles and possibly a higher boiling point in warm climates. Happy to stand corrected on it, but that's what I've been able to discover about the differences so far.
  5. I just set my climates control to 22ºC all year round pretty much. You could try Turing the air con off and just have the fan on low and blowing in some cool air from the outside - go all old school?
  6. You British people. 😁 My winter temp is always set between 21 and 24 and always on auto. 😅 In the summer it is between 20 and 22.
  7. I thought the OP was surprised that the car blew warm air when he set it to 17°C but it was 5°C outside. Myself and others pointed out the challenges with that approach.
  8. Yes, it has the Smart Clima, but you can select 'Classic' for those non-Smart controls. Similar to what others have said, I set mine to 21 or 22 all year; rarely anything different - it's best 'Set it and Forget it' clima I've come across in a car.
  9. I wired mine to one of the USB ports
  10. Surely you want to get your brakes sorted, however the price is ridicilious just for diagnosis. I would just get the rear brakes replaced (disks & pads, calipers if really needed), perhaps in more reasonable carage. Brakes are a wear item so wud not expect compesation from warranty. Oil leak. I would try to see how severe the leak is and then decide if I would just live with it. Or if it fixable with new seal or something. The price seems high. Undertay, again would check how bad and probably just live with it or fix it with some screws or whatever is needed. Oxygen sensor is most likely something you need to get changed anyway. Perhaps other garage cud do it cheaper? All in all, take it to somewhere else. Ask what the warranty covers and if they have a place where the work should be done under warranty.
  11. Liverpool Victoria, aka Britannia Rescue. I've never waited an hour, and this was lucky but I once handed the phone belonging to the garage I was in directly to the owner of the recovery firm and didn't even wait one minute to get a recovery vehicle.
  12. Thanks, everyone. I’d say we can wrap it up here for now. I’ll find a local body shop that specialises in detailing and see what they suggest, also to refresh the bodywork, as the car is now four years old, even though it has only 50,000 km. I’ll post an update here when I have more news. Thanks again!
  13. Yes I must have been many times and each time I must have been very bad or evil to have suffered with the British motor trade so much in this life. 😣
  14. ^^^ aside of the legal (illegal I believe) implications .............. Even if the tyre sizes mentioned have been mixed up by the OP ie 235 x 40 ............ vs .......... 225 x 45 ......... is still a circa 7mm difference in sidewall height.
  15. While looking at prices it is easy to look at size comparisons and see why some changes are just not on.
  16. Thanks Gaz. My thinking was ideally there would be a service every year, and recorded. With there being 1 main dealer service and now 1 with current independent car dealer it made me question things as it’s borderline high mileage/lack of service history, like you say. Definitely need to see and drive it and willing to walk away if any concern. Good shout on mentioning brake fluid change, and asking for extended warranty for reassurance.
  17. I think it is worth noting just how profitable running an electric car can be. My lad has had to transfer from the Worcester to the Gloucester depot for a few months. Firm is paying him just under £20 a day for his extra mileage. He has his hybrid Clio and that is doing about 54 mpg this time of the year. Would have to fill it up once a week as only has a 39 litre tank. So put him back on the Zoe EV insurance, less than a pound a day to do that, so he sometimes use the Zoe down to Gloucester. About 75 mile round trip so instead of £9 fuel a day it is less than £2 to use the Zoe, £7 saving ( plus servicing etc cheaper of course) Win, win for us and the planet !!
  18. He generalises lots. James that is. But also the Presenter who actually knows enough about EV,s. He has presented programmes with him driving EV,s. If nobody actually buys the cheapest most basic cars then you will never find a Used example. But DACIA will own ones and have in the UK the Dealers will own them and then people can buy as used. There will be ones sold to some people. Those just driving local & charging slow at home, work, or public might just want cheap, new Practical for their use.
  19. I fitted the Pirelli SF3 before this winter and I am greatly impressed by this tyre in cold weather, dry / snow / ice / rain ! I cannot judge yet for hot conditions...
  20. Ok you didn’t criticise but Inwas answering the points that OP thought it was on the paint, and at the time we didn’t have pictures of it. And you didn’t ask if he’d had someone look at it - you asked “have you tried machine polishing it”. Which is still not the first thing to go for. We can only go on the info and words at the time. A year old suspected sap/glue could still be broken down and removed with the right products. But I agree, since then, the picture identifies it immediately…in which case best practice is still to attempt to use chemicals as it’s the least aggressive method first. And like I say, you’ve got to use basically the same products to clean and decontaminate before getting a machine on it; and a detailer worth his salt will talk to the customer and ask rather than breaking out the Rupes. We’re at the solution now and I absolutely agree that he should seek a pro to do a proper job on it to avoid any complications or further unintended damage.
  21. It's annoying that it has 'smart' clima whereby you can elect to cool your feet. If the temp is set to 16 (which would have blown cool air in my MK3) it blows warm air on to your feet. I hate to sound like a technophobe but these newer, all access via a welded on iPad, control systems are not for me.
  22. If your car was registered with the DVLA between 2001 and 2017 it's taxation rate was set by the CO2 declared by the manufacturer on the certificate of conformity. If your V5 says 0g/km it suggests the MoD did not submit that document when registering, so it will have been rated as a pre-2001 PLG above or below 1599cc. I think you are stuck with that, i don't think it can be changed now.
  23. I can HIGHLY recommend the Goodyear Vector 4 All Season tyres. Its often cold / wet / Snowy / dirty roads here in Scotland. We run them on both our Octavia's. Absolutely blinding tyres. They can do down to about -15C, light snowy condtions and up to 40C in summer. What's not to like....
  24. The car is telling you that it is unable to complete locking and set the security. We really need a scan from ODBEleven or VCDS for us to provide any further details.
  25. You are quite right, it is up-selling of a service in much the same way as McDonalds' employees automatically encouraging larger portions (that you may not want). However, as others have already pointed out modern cars with stop/start and numerous other electronic loads and devices do require more expensive versions (EFB or AGM) than the traditional flooded lead-acid type to support the extra requirements. Also bear in mind that stop/start has largely been implemented by the manufacturers to meet increasingly severe pollution and consumption requirements. Anecdotal comments in Briskoda suggest that stop/start equipped vehicles battery life (even with the much expensive EFB or AGM types) can be as short as two years or longer than 5 years, depending on vehicle usage patterns. Occasional charging on an advanced charging systems (presumably those used by the dealers) can reduce sulfation present in lead acid batteries and theoretically extend their life. They may also detect a failing battery and offer a relatively high-priced replacement. There are two ways of looking at this: a) cynically, which I fully understand or b) this is offering preventative maintenance for the many owners that do not know anything, or even care, about vehicle maintenance but would complain vociferously when their battery fails in inconvenient circumstances soon after a vehicle service, which Murphy's law dictates is 'always'. Reading above, I think @nta16 put it better than I did lol
  26. Welcome. So Spark Plugs & Air Filter Replaced. And if they want to make it a Full Service they can do the Air Con Service. How long a Warranty are you getting from them? Check out a Skoda Warranty and be sure it covers the DSG. Skoda Main Dealer Servicing was not much anyway. No servicing for the DQ200 DSG.
  27. To revive an old thread and add some useful information.. We can add any/all SWaP/FoD functions to any car, regardless of if it's available to purchase in the Skoda store or not MQBEVO SWaP FoD.pdf
  28. I am patient with ya just needed more of an idea what the mark was 😁 now it does look like bird muck has etched into the top coat ,which is what i originally thought it may be ,as black is a terrible colour for showing this sort of thing ,so just my opinion of course but that needs properly polishing out ,if you dont feel confident take it to a local detailer or body shop who will mop the whole bonnet it may need cutting with a fine wet and dry aswell 👍
  29. 2 points
I would say go for a Mk4. I reckon they are a much nicer 'place to be' and more fuel efficient. The infotainment system gremlins are by and large fixed particularly with v1941 or 1969 which has sorted the repeated system restarts. Yes, there were a lot of issue with s/ware modules in earlier cars (2020/21) which ought to be fixed by now but have been told by a local dealer sales guy that there are some out there which haven't yet. If you do go for an early Mk4 vehicle I suggest going through a main dealer and ensure that all the fixes are applied and get assurance in writing that they'll do any which arise. Things to look out for include KPH/MPH settings (speedo & satnav), ACC thinking you're driving on the right (and preventing overtaking instead of undertaking), SOS module popping noise, road sign recognition reading as Km not miles), flickering fuel and temperature gauges. The early SE and SE First Edition cars had the smaller 8" infotainment screen, 'standard' cruise control and no SatNav so were not impacted by those issues. In fact, whilst mine was being investigated & fixed I had a 2020 SE FE on loan which was trouble free for the 8.5k miles I had it. During that time (5 months) I very nearly rejected my SEL FE to keep the loan car - very pleased I didn't as now it's fixed it is a lovely car.
  30. Yes I did feel around the heater matrix and both the pipes where hot, one scalding and the other slightly cooler but still hot. If this doesn't do the trick I'm going to have a look into this "N82 coolant valve" which apparently seizes up and somehow stops heating working. But that's a job for future me if this doesn't work out and would require a little bit of research into what it actually does and if I even have it. I was going to go down the route of a cheaper heater matrix but I felt safer just going with the genuine part as I know what I'm getting, I doubt there is much difference if any between any of the aftermarket matrix. Once it's all done I'll post back with the results and how easy it was to get it fitted
  31. Maybe a sensible idea for the Op @Andrew2024 to contact the DVLA if he hasn't already. Not read all of the link above yet but this may help - but replace Toyota with Skoda You need to get the certificate from Toyota GB for your exact car, and submit that to DVLA to get the CO2 corrected.
  32. Good point on the washing actually - microfibres are basically two types of plastic fibre; polyamide and polyester. One is good at trapping oils, the other at trapping water. Which means, washing at over 40degrees melts the fibres and kills the effectiveness. No hot tumble drying or sticking on the radiator after either. There are dedicated MF towel cleaning products (eg Carpro MFX) but otherwise some guys advocate chucking in some white vinegar or baking soda to help pull the oils out. Try to do a MF wash separate to other laundry as they’ll pick up lint from the other fabrics. And Stoner’s is a very respected product…I think perhaps moreso in US as it’s an American product. Substitutes Acid for Alcohol-based active ingredients which act as a solvent rather than surfactant.
  33. I agree with this. The 02 eml and oil leak should be resolved under warranty or consumer rights. Not consistent with implied sales terms. Durability and fitness for purpose.
  34. I too am interested in what this sounds like once you've had the work done. Any chance you could post a short vid of what it sounds like before and after? 🙏 I've seen many vids where the whole system has been replaced or straight-piped, but none where the centre res has just been deleted.
  35. @MarkyG82 I do see your point. Know how, experience and education is why craftmanship is what it is, craftmanship. So in that context it makes sense.
  36. Maybe depends on the car or / and gearbox though G. With my Octavia MK2 6 speed wet clutch 2005 DSG the sport setting revved the nuts off the thing ...... The normal 'D' setting though was just fine for as if you started uphill it seemed to hold the gear a little longer as you press the accelerator a bit more. Maybe depends on the engine too if Diesel, with the different characteristics PD vs CR
  37. I think that'll get you a discount on recovery.
  38. i have the 1968cc vRS TDI and i pay £30. im running a stage 3 tune with larger turbo etc @ 310bhp, a whole lot of fun for £30 tax you need to take the PLG off the reg book as its taxed accordingly.
  39. @dmniel Brakes - There's a reason why they get called "main stealers". £156 is more like the price of a new calliper and installation assuming the pads and disc to be good. Oil separator - Don't know Undertray - Don't know. EML - Is that even coming on?
  40. I know it is fashionable but it is not the best colour for somewhere that gets a lot of sun (or even the UK (40.3c)) but you have it and it can be sorted. I must admit I missed you are in Italy until I saw 500 Euros but in the UK anyone that does car paintwork without an expensive building and location to support might look at it and be able to do the work at short order and in a quick time for not too much cost. You might have to ask around to find these chaps and I have no idea of how things are in Italy. Good luck.
  41. Got quoted 1200 from Mr clutch. I thought that was pretty good. Don't say what make of parts would be used though.
  42. Is it just me or is anyone else frustrated by the small, and ridiculously shaped 'simply clever' cup holders? I love the huge door bin where I can store my water bottle, but I can't fit a coffee cup, (apart from a teeny one), into the cup holder. It's not even a circle! Does anybody know of an after market insert that can either fit into the holder to expand it, or replace the cup holder/coin tray?
  43. UK for me, if that helps.
  44. My point was more that seemingly everyone using the service dept are advised their batteries need charging - In my case today I was told it needed charging despite last Friday I'd done 240 miles and not used the vehicle over the weekend - whilst I wasn't told the actual figure/charge I find it hard to believe that every time I have work done (all too often!) I get the same 'battery needs charging' advice.
  45. The usb port beside the mirror is part of the £355 charging package option that includes wireless phone charging and the usb port beside the mirror.
  46. Looks like bird poo etching, will require some sort of polish to take the clear coat down to the lowest point and buffed then protected with ceramic coat or similar
  47. Error with the key fob, all sorted 😀
  48. I've seen them spin the thrust bearings on the crankshaft.
