That's fine - we do full on nerdiness, pedantry and nasel-hair (car) spotting here at Briskoda! 😁
  2. A couple from this weekend (including a trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park)..............
  3. Dumb bstards if it's true. Seems even more likely to be discovered than VW's NOx emissions dodge.
  4. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/531668-timing-belt-tool The 5 years / 50,000 miles was unique to the UK and was a Skoda / VW Moneymaker. The UK was and is counted as a 'LOW DUST COUNTRY' and that was the actual regime that should have been recommended or advice, pre June 2023 when the new guidance came in. (Because people with a 1.5 TSI ACT were not paying the £850-£1,200 being asked and were trading in cars instead then Dealerships would need to do them, maybe not taking 6.5 hours, but still not cheap if the car was to be serviced to the manufacturers. All of a sudden what went before changed.
  5. Apart from the warranty aspect, that would also indicate an inflated range per charge.
  6. Battery swapped, coded. All back to normal!

I was drafting at 55-60 mph and eco mode on the downhill sections

  9. Just a quick, short update. The DSG mechanic told me that sound and vibrations are coming from the gearbox itself. Its likely that some bearing (likely on the main pyramid) got destroyed. Once he opens and looks at the internals I will have more info, but that will have to wait till his schedule opens up. Really NOT the news I was hoping for, but what's done is done, such is life. I will post more details once I know them and hopefully some photos of metal machine horror.
  10. If using EV to mean Electrified Vehicle, but that is not a BEV. There are so many Mild Hybrids now and also PHEV,s. Dangerous things. And a brand new one going up, scary but just goes to show. Wait for the facts from 1st hand reports, the investigators. Get you on the road in no time. & maybe on the back of a salvage truck.
  11. Fiddling the Odo reading on a trip could affect the range per charge by stating that the vehicle has travelled 76 miles per trip, when it was actually only travelling 25 miles. The inflated cumulative distance would make it appear the vehicle was achieving a much greater distance between charges.
  12. I think the facelift has done a good job of making it look sportier
  13. Lots will come out if the Proposed Action gets to the courts. TESLA will have to defend but those bringing the case will not just have GPS or cars data but likely to have to provide from their phone or other devices their times and places as and when is relevant. Amazing that if this was going on that fleet operators, hire, and commercial or private drivers were not aware or caring. I had an EV that lost lots and lots of miles from the dash display but surely not from its ECU after an over the air update and a dealership carrying out software updates.
  14. Found it: Tesla Lawsuit Alleges Automaker...Tesla Lawsuit Alleges Automaker Manipulates Odometer Read...A class action alleges Tesla has manipulated odometer readings in its EVs to display greater distances than were actually driven in an effort to dodge repair obligations under mileage-capped warran... Seems fishy (for Tesla), it is certainly something I would similarly watch out for when near the 50k warranty limit. But I sure hope the plaintiff kept a driving log. But can't see how it could possibly relate to range per charge claims. (as claimed by @Warrior193 )
  15. from what i have read, the issue isnt with it altering the range, but with manipulating the total odometer mileage until it reads over the warranty cover distance in a shorter time period than it should reach that limit. range manipultaion was a different lawsuit a couple of yrs ago 😆😆
  16. its on thestreet.com classaction.org and carcomplaints.com its not getting media coverage because, well, lets face it the current US new media sphere is being very quiet about most things even loosely connected to Elon or Trump 🤷‍♂️ if i had more details than that i would them, but its all i have at the minute. Im sure it doesnt affect every vehicle, these things rarely do, and it may be a jurisdictional thing - ie its only been done in certain places. but it may be worth tracking for anyone with a tesla
  17. Lawsuit filed on Feb. 7 in California, reported on Newswire, published 9/4/25 - action involves a 2020 model Y.
  18. Thanks all. I’ve sort of now given up on this and just resigned to an interior set to 19°c and rely on the heated seat for any sort of warmth. 🙁😂

Best I have seen claimed for a 1.8tsi. The 2.0tsi engine versions rarely better 50mpg on a run although high 40's is easily achievable. However: a) I'm presuming that this was a relatively exceptional event for you so there must have been a lot more positive than negative factors involved. For instance, when I am rarely holidaying in Britain with a hire car, I get far better consumption on a busy moving motorway than I do on an empty one (the race-cycle peloton effect) b) You have quoted the displayed consumption, which may or not be accurate unless confirmed against actual consumption My now 11-year-old 1.4tsi consumption display used to be pessimistic (consumption better than display) when new but over the years progressed through truly accurate to being optimistic. Today if it shows 5.6l/100 (50mpg) then it is probably 5.9l/100 (48mpg) actual. My odometer is accurate, but the speedo is about 7% optimistic and always has been. I get the unusual situation where the average speed display (calculated by distance and time) is accurate while the digital speed display reflects the analogue speedo inaccuracy. Sorry about the full-on nerdy reply.
  20. Once again doing things... Blue mirror glass! Been wanting to do this for ages, so finally bit the bullet since mine were delaminating and generally being a nuisance as a result. It's quite the change, I've yet to try them at night though. Need to extend the wires that go to the heating element too, but that's low on the priority list just now. Today (14/04) was a trip to Inverkeithing with my mate to pick up some odds and ends for our Fabias. Somehow I left with a Flamenco Red bumper that was in a much better condition than mine. The car will never be a proper "show" car, but I like it looking well. Is this what the vRS boys mean by a "wide mouth" for the intercooler? All the better with the new bumper on, though. Reg plates coming as well, fresh set to fit.
  21. Not sure about the Merc's 7G DCT gearbox but would expect it to be smooth with a dual clutch system. Could be different matter if this is a dry system though. Not sure. My Octy 6 speed DSG wet worked faultlessly for the almost thirteen years that I owned it (as mentioned before, (I never serviced it either, just sayin, Lol) The 1 series with the Steptronic is beautifully smooth double clutch, no issues 1st to 2nd gear or any at all. Lovely car ........ (bar the road noise, as I mentioned elsewhere and as @Ootohere did warn me about.....) @Gaz I wouldn't expect a 1.6L to be a particularly firm ride, but obvs a test drive is a must for as many miles as you can get away with, Lol. I didn't test drive mine properly but love most of it except the OTT road noise on rough surfaces, especially considering how young it is. I am also considering a swap mostly due to this but also decided to take the state of our roads into consideration ........... A tractor is a bit slow but you catch my drift.......... Lol, as I cannot see much improvements and our roads just get busier and busier.... Good luck in finding what she likes.
  22. I've managed 28mpg average over the last 20k miles in my 2017 280 but last week I actually tried hard on a run from Cornwall to Gatwick and back in a day......42.9mpg....589 miles and computer still giving a range of 60 miles.
  23. Will look up later this evening for you.
  24. Yes, the brake light is integrated (see new pics attached).
  25. The cigarette lighter socket power is switched. What a great project, I had a diesel one that my Dad had originally bought but the bodywork was far worse than yours and I couldn't get it in anywhere to do the work on. I ended up scrapping it unfortunately along with my first car, also a Felicia. Needless to say, I have a few spares still lying around in the garage including a service kit (with oil) that you can get if you're interested. There's a few exterior trim bits too so let me know. And keep up the great work!
  26. To be honest you can pull that off as it’s not a factory fitted one at all
  27. While not perfect, testing the voltage at the battery terminals while cranking the engine on the starter motor is a reasonable test of battery health. A high-rate discharge is still the best test, but a dedicated battery tester is a relatively inexpensive and extremely useful tool to have.
  28. Hello, Are you still active here?
  29. Could be a stuck actuator on turbo or if its a variable fin one they could be carboned up. Mine used to go into limp mode due to actuator being stiff. I sprayed with penetrating oil and moved maanually for a good while and its been fine ever since. Used to go into limp mode randomly but if I stopped and started it again it was fine. Check the intercooler/pipes arent full of oil as well.
  30. It does not have a dry clutch DSG. So that info was duff right off.
  31. The kit arrived yesterday: So I set about it this morning, using the provided foam and felt pad. I taped the area so I didn't wander and kept my focus. It's a shame my photography skills aren't up to showing before during and after shots, but I simply couldn't get a photo of the scratches for love nor money. I spent several minutes of enthusiastic rubbing, cleaned it off and buffed. Then repeated this two more times. What seems to happen is that as the product starts to dry a bit, it whitens and shows up the scratches, and then as you buff it they start to disappear. I'm not convinced that I'm actually removing the scratches, but it's more likely the product has fillers in it that makes them not visible. Dunno. What I do know is it was bloody hard work and the bottom of my thumb aches. But I can't see the scratches, so I'll take that as a bit of a win. We'll see how long it lasts 🤞 I got an email the other day from the Carbon Collective who have just started selling their mini polisher again. At £240 it's a bit pricey (for me), but I think it'd probably be a good shout for doing localised areas of polishing, although I probably don't do it often enough to warrant spending the money. We'll see. Gaz
  32. 19°C and heated seat are you driving in just your underwear. 🙃 Heated anything takes a fair bit out of the battery, you may be fortunate and not have start-stop or a recent(-ish) new battery but if not you might want your charger maintainer ready for preventative rather than reactive recharging. If you've got a vacuum cleaner that blows as well as suck (hose to exhaust outlet) then a quick blast of air might dislodge any debris/crud/broken-bit that is there perhaps causing the transmission of the vibration noise. I bought a £30 Lidl vacuum cleaner just for the blow outlet and use it to better clean out a lot of items - but it's best done outside and careful not to be too close, concentrated, forceful in more delicate situations, like with a power washer, and never let go of the hose or it can go wild. I used it to blow off some surface rust I'd wire-brushed off from the underside of a neighbour's car and even though I was back a bit I wished I'd put goggles on. Made cleaning the "drive" of rust dust very easy though. Also good for back-blowing out other vacuum cleaner filters too.
  33. How does it stand in court of law (excuse my lack of knowledge on that front) to make the claim that his driving does not equal to recorded odometer? Tesla will likely produce GPS logs of driving, as they did with other lawsuits such as those regarding brake pedal. Therefore, the plaintiff must be able to counter that with some hard evidence. Again, can't see how it could impact range per charge. Rated range (and MPG) has always been standardised by WLTP or EPA. Nothing can be done by manufacturer. Edit; This is what I see in TeslaMate for one drive session (from out of P to back into P) odometer reading comes from the vehicle, miles comes from GPS log of driving. The Tesla mothership must have similar in their database.
  34. Regarding map upgrades. No idea. Industry has switched long time ago from built in navigation to do it via phone: 1) waze for online maps 2) other apps for offline maps.
  35. Why do you think Elon is slowly trying to gut all the US safety administrations and consumer protections are being stripped by Donny...
  36. Yes, this is the right connector pins 1 and 7 are for microphone (1 - signal, 7 - GND), 6 and 12 for RVC (6 - signal, 12 - GND).
  37. Thank you very much, the photo is just for the model of the car I am talking about.
  38. Welcome. It was just a bit of thinking. Mine were starting to get low at the rear before the front and seemed like a rumbling under braking. Glad it’s sorted though 👍
  39. Hello, Could you plese give me the concrete type of the LED bulb you used in your wife's car? Honestly I bought the most expensive "Canbus LED" one offered by the dealer. It's worth a try to use a different one before do any coding. Best regards.
  40. Re the Merc. When i drove one exactly like that it felt like the BMW 1 Series i borrowed that was pretty like the car i think @Tilt has. 1st to 2nd gear away from junctions / stops was horrible.
  41. A very very good clean and rust inhibitor applied before fitting, and check if the Fuel Filler area is already rusting from behind or has been painted.

Cheapest option is to buy the spavesaver, foam insert and tool kit on eBay or the like from an auto recycled. Can you use the extra foam box section with a spacesaver? Could you use your existing? You will likely be able to buy anything that was optioned with the space saver from skoda (expensive) or an auto recycler. Google search "octavia mk3 space saver kit", and "octavia mk3 spare wheel foam storage".
  43. Maybe but you’d want to be keen wouldn’t you. The audio quality will be pretty poor
  44. Probably should add. Wash, decontamination and paint correction £350 Ceramic £150
  45. Read an update from my side on April 2025. I have found an easier way, without OBD eleven, Excel, ODIS, etc... just an OBD adapter and carscanner. All necessary remarks were to follow, I placed. Costs and time saving way
  46. I’ll take a look at this. I might convert it all into a big forum topic for everyone. Got to find the time.
  47. Ad. 1 - OEM camera is connected to QuadLock blue connector pins 7 (signal) and 12 (gnd), you eitehr need an adapter from RCA to OEM pins like the one below or cut the yeloow plug and add original OEM pins instead. Ad. 2 - you will need to replace your PDC module, check if you are able to code camera in your current PDC. There can be three scenarios: it's not possible it's possible but you don't get a view of camera and PDC visualization on the same screen it's possible and you get a view of camera and PDC visualization on the same screen In case of first two you will need to replace your PDC. You can use either 1Z0919575G or 1K8919472C. 1Z0919575G is P&P while 1K8919472C requires re-pinning or special adapter. Big advantage of 1K8919472C is that it can turn on PDC automatically when you slowly drive towards wall / other car in front of you Of course in both cases coding might be required.
