  1. Cross Climate 3,s fitted. I will leave the pressures as is to see how efficiency is. Heavy rain coming but no frosts so I will see how traction in the wet is. 205/60 R16 V 96. At present available cheaper than Cross Climate 2 or +.
  2. to update this and for future reference for others..vcds also gave me "aborted due to malfunction " message when i was trying to calibrate the steering angle sensor in module 44. It turned out after many hours of research, testing, asking questions ll over the place that I am in fact a muppet and had not noticed that the rearmost wiring connector on the steering column and behind the window wiper stalk was not connected properly. whilst i feel like such a fool, it may help someone in the future. If you are getting a similar message, check all your wiring connectors behind the steering wheel.
  3. The best VRS is the 2.0 petrol mk3 with the clever front diff. Its the same as a mk7 Golf GTI with the performance pack.
  4. I will wrap myself in tin foil just like I do when using any modern day electronic device. Isn’t everyone doing this ?
  5. I'm in love with mine, especially since the Gremlins left with the 1985.
  6. If they keep at it they might get more research grants and keep them selves in a job. Holy camoly it must be a worry for those in electric trains, tubes, trams. Especially drivers of these.
  7. Another week another show @driverscollection show Sheffield
  8. Hi , My driving license is up for renewal next year and it's really easy to remove the oldies from the road ( I am 75 ) thus removing the car numbers. I fully support a fair driver assessment by a qualified accessor but no based on age.If you are caught driving in a reckless manor twice in two years your driving by standard should be apprised but regardless of age. I personally believe that we should employ a zero alcohol driving limit for drivers reaching retirement and a mobility standard again should be set. I witnessed yesterday an old couple having great trouble entertaining a high performance sports and I believe the driver was not in real control when driving off. I live in a small town that had in realty no buses and a train service that again has a cancellation level that is totally unacceptable. Driving standards should be assessed regardless of age.

Hello all, just purchased my first Skoda, an Octavia 1.6 diesel estate (2013) yesterday, so I'm busy scouring the forum for information and the benefit of your collective experience. Hopefully in time I'll be able to make a contribution as well ☺️ Cheers Jellingtonbean

Good evening and welcome @Jellingtonbean 👍
  11. You are right - unit behind glove box must be replaced either with Bolero 5Q0035842x / 565035842 or Amundsen (with built-in OEM sat nav) 5Q0035874x / 565035874 where x stands for letter A, B or C. I can deliver such unit, unlocked nad fully activated, in P&P version - if you are interested pls contact me in PM.
  12. Alex is well known and reputable, so you can buy with confidence.
  13. You concentrate on reversing 😉
  14. I could have it charging pre 7 am and at 100% and showing 104 miles range, say -2*oC, that was on the phone app. Get in the car and not pre conditioned and on start up it might be showing 106 miles, then i set off and 60 mph roads and a few 20 and 30 mph villages it has 80 miles range left after 30 miles. (Pre heating / deicing the car for 5 minutes before unplugging it made no difference to range showing on app but the dash might show more miles range. The demisting last winter was not working properly as i only found out when they said it needed the warranty work. But i never have Heating set higher than 18*c other than maybe for a few minutes clearing the glass / windscreen. Heated seat on maybe for 5 minutes and not needed on again. Dipped headlights always on in winter.
  15. The car is from Germany. It was serviced regularly: gearbox oil was changed every 60.000 km. Engine oil was first changed at 17 000 km Spark plugs also changed at 64 000 km and 128 000 km Filters changed Brakes. Service and cleaning Wiper blades Also, A heat exchanger was replaced. But I don't know if it is related to battery cooling or not. I have the service history, seems that it was properly maintained. Also, seems that every year the usage was very consistent. only 1-2k km difference from one year to another. But what I don't know is driving patterns. Did some rough calculations, assuming it was a company car, used mostly during work days, I get around 130 km / working day. Which I don't know if it is a good thing or not. It might be driven mostly electric each round, charged at office during the working hours, then drove back home. If that is the case, then I expect a high number of charge cycles, around 1400 if I remember my calculations correctly. 1400 cycles. High? Low? Average? I really don't know how to evaluate the overall condition of this car. Is not that easy like a petrol/diseel car.
  16. I charged to 100 % or 98/99 % nearly always. Always before heading off on trips. DC or AC. It only shows between 108-118 even in warm weather. It would do more but was most efficient between 15-20 *oC. I could still get 100 miles with some range left at as low as -10*oC. The only time i would not charge to full is if the charger was very expensive and there was enough to get me to my destination and then cheap charging. Usually on my way homewards and needing just about 70 miles, and also if a charger had a max 40 minutes stay and i had enough charge at the charger charging slow but at a stupid tariff.

From what I can tell, a fob with a button for a spring loaded key uses as CR2025 & one with full KESSY & the key inside uses CR2032. But best bet is to simply open it & take a look.
  18. As a car how are you finding the MG5 , ? I liked the boot size and you could get a mobility scooter in there without taking motor bit off which I have to in Enyaq , And I must admit I've just been on auto trader looking at low priced second hand ones , and my god has the price dropped, Tempted aint the word for a second car
  19. Just to put this one to bed; I got the car back yesterday after a week at my VAG specialist garage. DPF was comletely b**g***d and was replaced with a new Walker unit from Autodoc. The EGR cooler was damaged when the turbo was changed by a previous owner so was replaced; the cooler support bracket was missing so it was only supported by the physical connections to the other components. Two mounting studs were broken and had to be replaced. The oil leak was traced to a missing gasket between the engine block and the turbo bearing oil supply pipe, no need for a new turbo thank goodness. That probably explains what I thought were exhaust fumes getting into the car when the aircon was on (oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold). The second EGT sensor also was replaced so both now new. Goes like a rocket now. Running it on VAG Spec 507 Castrol oil so I'll keep an eye on the consumption. Altogether I've spent nearly £3,000 on this car but it will probably see me out.......
  20. MG5 good budget ev estate with plenty of go go , to much some times as I used to wheel spin 🤭 Not much difference between eco and standard on kwh Gave mine up as it was to low for my mum and brother to get in and out of and was causing me left leg pain due to lounging seat position Mine was a 2022 pre face long range excite in silver Also why didn't MG use psi for tyre pressures , you can go between C and F on temp
  21. That's why I included what I paid. I had no intention of buying a new car, but the differential between the discounts on new & what dealers were asking for year old cars was minimal. Might be an idea to start each new journey with all the "aids" switched off for now, so you can concentrate solely on getting used to the rest. Having switched from a Polo myself, just getting used to the size of the thing takes a while! I still get caught out when trying to pull in after overtaking on a dual carriageway without indicating, & having to wrestle the steering wheel. 🙄
  22. Please post only in English.
  23. +1 8 plus yrs with mine - no flaking or peeling anywhere. Still in mint condition.
  24. In the end I paid my 8 euros and went onto Erwin. Yes 40k for the plugs and 80k for the DSG as expected. It’s crazy that “customer services” couldn’t tell me that! Although with the last 280tsi I forgot about the spark plugs and didn’t replace them until about 70k. To be honest it was very difficult to tell the difference between the ones I took out and the new ones, other than the latter were cleaner. I couldn’t see any electrode wear and certainly the car went no better after I replaced them
  25. The factory fit wipers are made of cheese. Mine did last 6 months though.
  26. Thanks all, the generic scanner did the job perfectly and identified a bad number 2 glow plug. Now replaced and code reset.
  27. Mine too. 10 next March and zero issues like the OP’s.. and yep I have a wedding ring. However, the steering wheel is already shiny after 55k, which I think isn’t great and unfortunately, there’s no way to return it to a decent matt finish.
  28. Does anyone here ever feel a little odd when driving their electric cars particularly on extended drives, and not just BEV's but hybrids and PHEVs as well? If so then it seems that a new study has shown that they are emitting a far higher level of microwave energy then what is considered to a safe level apparently. This is alleged to be at its worst when pulling away and accelerating as well as when doing regen to top up the battery a report says. Microwave News | WakeUp Call for EV Industry
  29. Yes. I have a 25 plate with this option and it’s only self park which I have used on a single occasion to try it out!
  30. It also works in generic OBD mode so can be used on other makes too - I've used it on a colleagues Lexus to clear a DPF fault so he could drive home 50 miles at more than 30mph!
  31. I am tempted to consider. What is holding me back is the speed of battery development with solid state batteries giving longer ranges but not widely available. Give it 3 years and I might have the itch to 'switch'.
  32. This is a classic example of one side, the dealer not telling you 100% of the truth. You have a purchase contract with the dealer (which is under consumer law). The dealer has a completely separate commercial contract with Škoda UK. The two contracts are not linked (if they were conditional on each other, you would be perfectly entitled to see the other contract that your deal depends on). If the dealer won't sell you the car (yet) then presumably it's not theirs to sell (in other words Škoda UK haven't yet released it to the dealer. Your purchase includes the grant discount, but as previously stated your contract is with the dealer and not Škoda, and should not dependent on Škoda having another completely separate transaction with the Government. How and when dealer gets remunerated for the grant value is not your business, and not a reason for delay. If the dealer is delaying simply because they don't want to be out of pocket for £1500 for few days/weeks, then that is poor. They are a retailer and should carry the commercial risk with their supplier. I would go back to them and remind them your retail contract is legally separate from any commercial deal they have with Škoda, and not a valid reason for delay.
  33. As per others, I have several times had the car slam the brakes on to bring me to an instant stop when reversing and (in my opinion) way too far from the object it thinks you're going to hit. That said, it does seem to be speed-sensitive, so I assume the software does a calculation and decides I will hit this object in x.x seconds. It doesn't know I will be braking myself before I hit the object. What the car really does not like is when I am using ACC and it sees a car to the left (parked) while on a bend. It frequently slams the brakes on in those situations, to the concern of the driver behind, to the point I have long since acquired some muscle-memory whenever I am on non-motorway etc doing slower speeds and have stationary traffic that I know will be problematic to the ACC and so I switch it off until I am past.

If you are looking at both Fabia and VW Polo then might also be worth looking at Seat Ibiza too. They are all very similar under the skin, and many of the parts and controls are identical. However specs vary between them and the various grades, VW tend to put less in as standard, but on other hand no point in paying for something unlikely to use. Ultimately going to depend on what you can source at a price you are happy to pay.
  35. Another weekend and another trip out in the Octavia, we did Ultimate German car meet at the British motor museum with some 650 plus cars in attendance last week, Diddly Squat farm shop and Caffeine and Machine 310 miles in a day. This weekend we nipped to @Lowcoworld cars and coffee at Newark showground 😎 and put another few miles on the clock at the same time as remembering why i love this old Octavia of mine 😍
  36. The old bus did well again at Tatton Park VW show 2025 with a 2ND place (i keep trying we but bet cars that were up to 18 years newer and 150,000 miles less)
  37. I noticed in my SEL that one the front cup holder then is a symbol of a key with a wifi type symbol. Just curious as to what it means? It could mean it's somewhere to put your key, but I assume not as surely that would defeat the point of a cup holder? No issues at all just spotted it and was curious
  38. I think noone does mention it since you get plenty notification about dead key battery and you have spare keys that will still work after your main will be dead. As Cedwing mentioned, this is the spot for the key to unlock the immobiliser when the key itself cannot do it wirelessly.
  39. Best as in for keeping clean? That's going to be a ceramic coating realistically. If you want them looking perfect, then you're looking at taking them off, refurbing and then doing the coating. However, if its not going to be a showcar and you just want looking good and keeping clean easily, then just removing and giving a thorough clean and decontamination and then coating. By decontamination, that involves: Pre-washing, Iron fallout remover, Contact wash with shampoo, Tar remover, Claying. If it was bodywork, then you'd want to machine-polish to get the clearcoat looking its best (removing the marring from, amongst other things, the claying process) but probably not completely necessary for wheel barrels given the lack of exposure. Otherwise/Also, I'd look at low-dust pads when you change (I've got ATE Ceramic pads on order as good reviews) and decent barrel brushes to clean inside when you do do it. Personally, I'm happy just keeping my clean with brushes when I clean the car.
  40. Hi there i'm New on here and i have Skoda Kodiaq 2021 and I thought I would update the infotainment system. Can anyone provide the latest update? Many many thanks in advance. Details attached.

Thanks for both your help and took Austin 7 advise and sent his email to the company doing the repairs ,glad to say it looks like all is well but quite a saga and to be fair to the company spent WAY more time than I was billed for. As you can see from my posts it was originally diagnosed by RAC as an ABS sensor this was replaced but fault still there ... all the 5 lights still on and ESC and bent light function fault lights on info screen. Tec then opened up harness to see if copper wire in loom was broke all ok .Next step a new reluctor ring was suspect so went for a new SKF wheel bearing complete as this was the next possible cause of problems ..success we thought all lights out went for a run still ok then came back and took me out to show it was clear within 100 yds brake ABS and all lights on again and an intermittent fault with hard pedal kicking in the ABS . The ironic think is when lights all on car drove great when all lights where off got this vibration through pedal .Tec suspected it may be the ABS MODULE its self hope not that s a £800 part but phoning round asked loads of Skoda guys never heard of it in all there time .So booked back in again for another days look ,took on board battery situation although showing 12.8. 13 resting he put in new battery to try right away power steering sign and bulb signs went out . next was to check the 32 pin plug going into ABS MODULE tested loom on each pin and discovered a communications breakdown so replaced a new cable direct to NSF sensor ...all lights out and car seems to be all ok and all work is warranted for a year If this had been into a main dealer at £100+ an hour would have been a very costly repair as no diag tool was picking up a fault on module .hope you all have fallen asleep reading this .this is why forums are so good lets others narrow down things .
