  1. As we've had a hosepipe ban for a few weeks now, and for the foreseeable future, the car's been neglected, and not been washed for ages...ttok it to the local car wash earlier, then finished it off giving a wipedown with Poorboys QD, tyres dressed with Chemical Guys tyre dressing, and plastics renovated with Nanolex trim rejuvenator. A couple of days ago, I used the Gtechniq 2-stage polish and water repellant treatment on the sides and rear window (mine's not got a rear wiper, so was getting fed up with the constantly dirty window!). Even in anonymous "Uber" spec, it's quite a handsome wagon when it's clean...not that I'm biased at all 😅 Have a great weekend all!
  2. Recently visited the Helios installation at Fountains Abbey. National TrustHelios at Fountains Abbey | YorkshireHelios at Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire A spectacular sight once the sun had set ☀️ Some judicious use of Magic Eraser in the first image!
  3. What I meant was the words 'performance' and 'N/A 1.0 hatchback' generally don't sit together. If you want a low powered, fun car, go and buy an '09 Clio with the 1.2, take the interior out and put some sticky tyres on it - sorted. Lower powered cars are only 'fun' when they're small, light, and have an aftermarket Pioneer radio in them. Anything new with an N/A 1.0 is just too heavy and driving dynamics were not considered during construction. Mind you, I had great fun in my 2007 Fox - even if it was a bit ropey. My mum has a 2022 Ibiza FR with the 1.0 3cyl EA211 in it - 110ps and it shifts! Not quite as much as my vRS, but for 1/3 of the power it does really well.
  4. I finally managed to change the battery serial number on the control unit, not by activating the OBDeleven PRO subscription, which I believe costs around € 60 a year, but by going to a Volkswagen workshop and accessing it through ODIS. Total cost: € 30. And that’s the end of this annoying business… 🙂
  5. Initial thought, all EVs get the higher level grant and all forms of purchase and lease have 0% interest with a deposit of no more than 10%, plus introduce a vehicle scrappage scheme for ICE cars (this allowed me to change from a 12 year old car to a new one back in 2021). Costs to be met by increasing the tax burden on all those paying higher rates of income tax. This would make the entry, and ongoing lease/purchase, costs affordable to many more people currently running cheap ICE cars and no/limited savings and limited disposable income. We need to do something to make EVs affordable to all if we really are serious about net zero.
  6. The government should also be incentivising EV apprenticeships and training existing mechanics. It’s all just left to the dealers who are hedging their bets on whether the whole thing really takes off.
  7. Absolutely spot on Dave and the government should be doing something to rectify that. They probably would say they are, but I don’t see it. Build more charging stations, bring the price down, put in 7kwh ac chargers in as many places as possible. People that want EVs but are restricted by infrastructure should write to their MPs etc. We are at the point where the government is only really playing at it so their bit in the history books doesn’t look too bad, even the Tories brought in pro EV legislation, I reckon 25 more years of limbo maybe less if technology produces a mega fast charging battery that does 500 miles and can tow a 2000kg trailer.
  8. Temperature is probably a factor (in maximum voltage levels).
  9. These cable thefts are not helping the EV movement at all. This video shows cables being stolen from chargers near my city of Chelmsford, and the operators claim that each time it costs them around £30,000 each charger, one such operator has had a third of his chargers targeted, about 100 have been affected so far. It also seems that loads of home chargers have also been targeted.
  10. Hi All, Since the beginning of this year I'm a happy owner of a Octavia VRS. In May I did a tour of Scotland with it, was great fun to drive there. I was getting good info and tips from this forum, so had to sign-up. Already busy with some mods: Already put spacers on them 2,5cm back and 1,5cm in the front. No waiting on the MIB2.5 upgrade (removal of the CP of the amp is on-hold 😒) next will be lowering (kw adjustable springs)☺️
  11. Let's not get carried away debating 14.6 Volts vs 14.8 Volts. That's not helping the guy solve his problem. So - to address the actual question . It is normal for a low battery warning to pop up at switch on if the car has been idle for a while, such as 2 or 3 weeks in the airport carpark when you go on holiday. This may also occur if the car is only used for very short trips as the battery has never had the opportunity to fully charge. There is actually a considerable dip in voltage as soon as the door is opened, and more when ignition is switched on. This is what triggers the annoying low voltage warning. However, as Johngerard said above this will result in charging at the higher rate (14.6 or 14.8 i.e. something above 14.4 ) immediately after start up. How long it charges at the higher rate depends on what the BMS/BCM thinks is the battery state of charge - could be a few seconds or several miles. If this is not happening then there is some problem with the battery or charging circuit and controls. New battery was fitted and coded - Did you enter your VIN in your friends VCDS in order to do the coding - and did you enter a new serial number for the battery as well as new parameters ? If not the new code may not have been saved -so BMS doesn't know it has new battery. If the previous owner fitted mods (those LEDs) did he/she do any other changes ? Has the battery monitoring module on the battery negative terminal been removed? bypassed? disconnected? Has coding been changed to try to permanently disable Stop-Start? Don't forget the basics - a poor connection anywhere in the charging/battery circuit will upset the system. Does the voltage measured at the alternator match the measurement at the battery when charging? In one case we had similar problems to this with a Fabia TDi which turned out to be a poor connection of the engine earth strap which had burned/corroded after not being properly cleaned and tightened after the Skoda dealer did the cambelt and water pump. Hope this at least helps you to know where to look ! Goog luck! Please report back if you find the solution so others can find help when they need it.
  12. Another thing you may not know, and again I assume the 4.5 is the same - you don't actually need to manually release the EPB, if you put the car in gear and drive off (reverse or forwards) it releases automatically.
  13. Why go you want a Lockable fuel cap, when there is one all ready on the car !

There are no arrows on the switch. You need to push the switch / joy stick in the direction of the arrow ( in the handbook ) that corresponds with the direction you want the mirror to move. So pull down/back to lower the mirror. This is with the dot on the end of the switch / joy stick lined up with the mirror you want to adjust. L for Left, & R for Right mirror. You need the ignition on for this to work. HTH Thanks. AG Falco
  15. Thanks mac11irl - mine is 2015 so has the sticker in the boot thankfully.
  16. System, audit and enforcement should be strong and economic in each part. As an HMRC issued Demand Notes for well over 10M so my cost for return had a good ratio.
  17. You can probably take it up to 75bhp with a map. The best bang for buck will be a remap and some nice tyres. Otherwise, not much - get a car with a turbo above 1.0! Do bear in mind too, that it's only a little town car - it's not designed, or suitable, for fast driving. It's a great little car, but go easy!
  18. I'm considering this if I can find the same or similar spec, I'm going to give the dealer until the contract clause which then effectively nullifies the contract due to X amount of time over estimated delivery with the demand they deliver within two weeks which they have acknowledged. There are over 70 VRS on the Skoda website with some available immediately (around 5 in a similar spec) I'm also considering a polestar 4
  19. Given the scale of the "black economy" in scrap metal I don't think that would have a serious impact on this particular crime.
  20. It almost sounds like either the throttle is being electronically shut off (maybe a dodgy throttle switch/brake switch or the like). Or You are releasing the clutch too fast. What happens if you really really slowly release the clutch but dont put it back in. Does it still stall? If so, I'd say it's got an electronic problem. I had a fairly modern landcruiser which would cut the throttle to idle if the brake was at all pressed. This included when the brake switch was a bit faulty or not adjusted correctly, or for some, when they had a boot slightly resting on the brake. Make sure it's not that, your boot touching the brake a bit. That may cause the ecu to cut the throttle.
  21. True, but I was just highlighting a few well known and respected make that some people might know about.
  22. Both are very valid barriers to full mass EV adoption, unlike "I like vrrom vroom". I agree the latest grant is a farce. Too many conditions making it a lot of guesswork, the lower amount is too small. But the higher amount does make a noiceable change to leasing cost, eg. Ford Puma. Out of interest, what sort of incentive or financial assistance are you envisioning?
  23. When I was doing anti Bootlegging with HMRC we developed more and more useful ways of slowing down the smugglers. Of course we already had the power to seize the transporting vehicle. If it was a rental then that renter would likely be banned from renting from anyone again and small print in their rental agreement meant they were liable for restoration penalties. Also, those carrying alcohol, rather than tobacco, where oft overweight so big fines, points on licence for that. We were increasingly working with multi agencies to throw the book at such characters. But things evolve. With the Con party planning big cuts to the Civil Service it may get easier for criminals. There is lots of big data drilling going on with hmrc, bank accounts to tax returns and lots are getting caught out for under declaration and this is bringing in increasingly large amounts even if just incorrect declaration rather than "knowingly" making incorrect decision. Pay the amount owed, possibly interest charges and a fixed penalty but not so high as if HMRC can proved intent and then it is bigger fines and possible jail but jail cost us taxpayers big time. I prefer seizure of assets and spare jail.
  24. Many in this generation want to change away from ICE vehicles but are unable to do so without both some financial assistance (the latest Grant scheme is close to a farce) to lease/buy an EV suitable for their family, and a viable solution to allow those who have to park in the road to charge an EV. Remember there is no right to park outside your property (as an example, I am very rarely able to park outside my fiancee's house, often 200 yards down the road!).
  25. PHEV’s are borderline pointless you literally get the worst of both worlds. The facts about fossil fuel use are out there and people have a choice and have still got years of that choice. It would be nice if legislation wasn’t required but unfortunately it is, as is the case with most things. History will have a chapter on where we are now, where people who’d only ever known the petrol and diesel way were reluctant to change. Future generations will have more of an incentive.
  26. Rules like that only work with adequate enforcement. I would imagine criminals exist in all sides of the process. Extra regulation increases the crimes committed and chargeable when caught.
  27. Haha. and to think that there are some here who are in denial that these cables are being stolen and also that chargers that the MacMaster and others say are broken are staged for clickbait, jeez.... One thing though, you certanly don't hear of thieves stealing filling hoses from a filling station 😁. I must admit that I did have a chuckle when I read one of the other comments on the link you posted about siting them on McDonalds that are open 24/7 so will be plenty of people about, or have loads of CCTV cameras installed, which is precisely what they had at the Chelmsford site, cable still got nicked, even with their starring role in the movie.🤣🤣
  28. Failing injectors can cause misfires and bad pattern/clogged nozzles can cause black sooty smoke and low power plus poor mpg but if the throttle flap isn't moving then I would start there. It may be the wiring to the throttle body? Alasdair
  29. Solution? "smart water anti-theft measures" Source: Rapid charger anti-theft cables | Speak EV - Electric Car Forums
  30. Yeah, offsets 3mm lower from my googling, so I’d suggest insignificant providing I don’t lower the car or fit massive tyres. Guess I’ll have to try and get a photoshop done to see them on and measure some centre caps.
  31. Wow what a story and what a journey. Well done you and well done Super B. Great you let this live on. They are really a great all rounder for a family on travels or not.
  32. I’d vote for it Graham, but can you imagine the meltdown if Reeves announced in the next budget a complete shake up where EVERYONE paid their fair share ?
  33. You say "It's not an alternator problem as it charges (12.9v-13.3v-13.4v)."" That doesn't seem right to me. I have the same car (2017 1.6 TDi). I changed battery from original EFB to Yuasa AGM, Charging voltage most of the time is 14.8 volts. Did you change battery type to "FLEECE" when you recoded ?
  34. @Stonekeeper If everyone paid their proper share of taxation, instead just those that cannot afford to pay accountants to find loop holes etc, then things like the NHS, care for the elderly air ambulances etc would be able to be properly financed for the benefit of everyone and we would have far fewer charities as well as a result and then the country would be a far better place for it and everybody would be far happier I believe. And another bonus would be that our roads would be well sorted, no potholes or look like a patchwork quilt and far fewer accidents I think too.
  35. No-one should have been or be forced to have one until they see it makes sense and works for them. If we had left it to market forces I think there would be less resistance to the idea. I wonder how many in the past said "That T'internet ain't coming in this house" "I'll never have a dish on my wall" "Mobile phone, what do you need a phone in your pocket for?" Mandate ev take up immediately put a barrier around it.
  36. well thats an amazing story and so well written. fair play
  37. Nice to hear you got everything fixed 😊 i'll keep those ecu cables in mind 👍
  38. Ordered! Hope gets fast as the first hint of snow arrived and I am already late for swap 🙃

Hi guys, Just mounted a dash cam on my Karoq and I think it looks pretty good. The price was 50$ and it's a fhd camera 1920×1080 30fps, no wirring to the fusebox was neccessary, it came with a power cable that connects to the rain sensor. I am attaching few pictures here maybe it helps someone and also a link https://a.aliexpress.com/_mKO4uX2 They have also a 4k option. 🥂
  41. For all you guys that are really tired of this crappy bass and want to fix it permanently without adding anything else like DSP and Amps+Helix AAC+(or other alternatives) get the Audi 80A035382A and retrofit it into the spare wheel cutting the foam if you have storage space or adding it if you have a spare wheel. What you need to do it OE Style is: 1. Audi 80A035382A* take care for the code because 80A035382(Without the A) is on 40W and 2Ohm single channel 2. Skoda 5E5867427P for replacing the empty space after the removal of the Canton Sub Box 3. 191972714 Female plug (You plug the male connector that goes now into your Canton Sub) 4. 7n0972704 Male connector plug (That goes into the B&O Subwoofer). Take care of the pinout to keep the phase correct and enjoy the bass that should have been there from the start. I also suggest to add some sound insulation in and on/around the subwoofer box. This will remove the rattling and plastic resonance sound and make the deeper frequencies clearer. Enjoy!
  42. Hmm, I had not known about some of these EV's risky cars and possible fires with some of these cars, some from so called prestige cars, many of these seem to have been suppressed and limited press coverage until being forced into recalls and very expensive fixes.
  43. I recently changed mine for the first time. It's generally every 65,000 km. Please keep in mind that the DSG gearboxes are equipped with filtering system as well, that means you will need to change the gearbox oil filter as well. But here's the argument. In warm climates I've heard that they don't change the gearbox oil until 100,000 km on a DSG. But as the climate gets colder, the wear ratio is higher, so they advised to change the DSG oil around 65 to 70,000 km.
