  2. WILL LED BULBS PASS AN MOT?There are two popular alternative light sources that are often fitted to halogen headlights – HID and LED. But on 11th January the wording in the MOT inspection manual was updated to state that conversion of halogen to either HID or LED bulbs will automatically fail an MOT. To quote section 4.1.4 of the MOT Inspection Manual: HID lights (high intensity discharge) fitted to halogen headlights have been reason to fail an MOT for a while now, but fitting LEDs has always been a bit of a grey area. Technically only “E Marked” bulbs could be fitted to headlights, and LEDs do not typically carry such markings. However many people would continue to fit them as an alternative for halogen for longer life and greater output. LED’s are also a cheaper and far simpler alternative to HID Xenon bulbs that often require extra work installing additional wiring and ballasts. Any ambiguity on the rules for LEDs has been put to rest with this clear MOT guidance now though. It’s not entirely clear on the reasoning behind this new wording – some cite changes stemming from Brexit, others argue it’s just to keep any loopholes closed. But now it’s important as a motorist that if your vehicle is not using halogen bulbs when it should be, you’d better consider swapping them back as an MOT failure would now be entirely justified.
  3. Hello, Merry christmas. Today i opened the screen, cleaned the scroll bar with isopropylic alcohol and repluged it. For the moment, it works fine 👍🏻
  4. Mine came with LED interior lights everywhere except for glovebox and boot lights.
  5. Just a heads up for anyone looking to buy a 2019 moon white skoda octavia vrs 245 with Canton sound system After purchasing the Skoda Used Approved Octavia Vrs car myself from a main dealer in the South East, I found the car to be damaged and it also had rust/paint problems. Damage was the front end of the N/S front sill next to the jacking point Rust under bonnet + After 7 months of stress dealing with the main dealer and Skoda U.K executive office, I finally returned the car for a full refund last week. As I am still waiting for other agreed monies from the dealer, I cannot give any further details of the car at this time. I have never experienced such appalling customer service in my lifetime and just hope others don't have to experience the same thing.
  6. A few from our recent annual trip to see the Christmas lights at Belton.............

The first used Fabia - purchased Sep. 2021 - was a 2017 1.0 TSI(95ps)SE L (s/s) Estate 5d 999cc 94 BHP with 36260 on the clock. The clutch went at 37560 miles in November. The car was written off in a third party liability accident in August 2022. The second used Fabia - purchased August 2022 - is a 2018 Skoda Fabia 1.0 TSI (95PS) SE (s/s) Estate 5d 999cc with 22500 on the clock. Clutch failed in February 2023 after 2,309 miles and was replaced. That clutch failed on 1st January 2025 and when removed one plate was found to be split in two. The garage who fitted it was able to reclaim the cost from the supplier because it was quite clearly a faulty part, but I still had to pay for the labour. Now the clutch has once more failed and will need to be replaced. What else am I to think other than that there is a serious issue with clutches for Fabia cars? (I had done 74,000 miles in the Octavia, although I was the first owner).
  9. Viffer800. That’s great news and a decent price you paid 👍 I was not trying to put anyone off, rather that they do their due diligence and not believe they can buy a basic OBD 11 and happily recode the safety systems (as some YouTubers indicate is possible). John
  10. We did a nice drive out this afternoon in the sun and 5 degrees c 33 miles, mainly A roads with maybe e through Chippenham very little traffic as you’d expect today. 54.2 mpg. Not bad I’ve less than 1200 miles on my superb estate 150 TDI SE L. I had hoped for a bit more and maybe 63+ when it’s ran in at about 7/8/k miles or so. No complaints it’s a very nice drive providing I remember to switch off lane assist as pull off. My 67 plate Passat 2.0tdi achieved 63 average in Winter 68+ in Summer and 65 over the last 12 months I owned it. The Superb is a bit heavier and with the emission “improvements “ I was still hoping to average only a couple of mpg less long term. John

  12. I wanted a better quality OBD reader to diagnose info about a problem I was having and managed to get an OBD Eleven 2 Pro sub for a very good deal a couple of weeks ago. £40 odd and not available now. Chose OBD Eleven due to the VAG/Skoda approval. Got the info I needed and the car is going in to a dealer for a warranty repair in early Jan I subsequently treated myself to some One Click Apps credits at a similar discount to the reader itself. Changes you can make to a Karoq include >>> https://obdeleven.com/customizations/skoda/karoq/2021 e.g. I have adjusted the Tear Drop wiping, Alternative Parking for Wipers and a couple of the external lighting options. Very simple to do using the OBD Eleven VAG app on my phone. I have no personal interest in dicking about with Long Coding or any of the SFD tied down functions and was really only highlighting above that OBD Eleven can help 'someone' do it if 'someone' wants to :)
  13. Have you checked under the floor in the boot?
  14. I think more for a connection by enet cable and telnet unit but need to deep more to know how to access and have only 1 unit so I won’t take adventure to brick it 😂😂😂
  15. I had LED side bulbs in mine to match the whiteness of the xenon bulbs, to be fair they were in there when I bought the car. A mate doing my MOT says they have to be removed before I do the MOT, thankfully he had a check over everything for me. I also found I had LEDs for the high beams that made my lights flicker so they came straight out!
  16. U need to use a wireless dongle like AAWireless or Ottocast. Provided ur headunit can do wired Android Auto and CarPlay.
  17. Yes I don’t know how you are supposed to clean the wheels with the covers still on
  18. Worked perfectly but it was to hard to get it readed the clap is tricky i Have unsoldred and soldred back
  19. Depends which year your car is and whether you want Android Auto or CarPlay. If you have MIB3 then yes it’s built in. If not, then it’s a bit more year-dependent. If all else fails, you can get something like an Ottocast and use that as a link.
  20. As far as im aware a damaged outer sill would be Cat N registered if it went through insurance ? I guess it will either not be repaired and passed on as it is again or repaired without being registered. Looked at a Audi A3 Quattro the other day at a main dealer and it looked like they had stuck a second hand drivers door on it. Or it had had a terrible repair. Showed up as hpi clear. Just dont know how these dealers get away with it. Truly shocking 😡
  21. Just looked, could very much be but not showing the reg. If it is, its up for nearly £400 more than I paid in February this year. For sure, wouldn't want anyone else to get stitched up and have the same grief. Yeah, still waiting for other monies agreed on top of a full refund but seems like im going to have to chase that too. Unbelievable. Thanks very much 👍🏻

Sorry, thanks for letting me know, I thought I'd checked the link, obviously not, and I've missed edit, so the quote just above has been linked - or use this. -https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-eurocars/vws-vaq-diff-explained/30560 ETA: I've check (twice) both links work (at those moments, on my machine, checked after deleting 'History' on my browser, twice).
  23. It does seem it is on sale again with a well known website (if it is the same one). Hopefully anyone seeing your post on this forum will avoid this particular car and any grief that comes with it. Appreciate you cannot say too much until you have had the outcome you are after from the dealer. Good luck.
  24. The rims have arrived 🤩 Tomorrow I'm going to apply a thick layer of wax
  25. Update - popped into Marshall Skoda MK. Service Agent said they'd be able to open it but would need to be booked in to be fixed properly, under warranty. A Tech come out, released the flap, told me its a known problem - the flap now seems to be working properly. Its booked in 1st week in January. All sorted within 30 minutes on Christmas Eve. Panic averted.
  26. Politely ask your Dealer to demonstrate the location of the key to you. It usually would be located with any wheel tools supplied with the vehicle.
  27. I contacted Skoda support and tried various different approaches to no avail, the 'Globus' on the main screen was always greyed out. After the third email from Skoda support, they said they had done a few tweaks their end and to do a factory reset one more time. Tried again, the 'Globus' this time turned white, and then managed to connect and everything now working perfectly.

Update for anyone who is interested. I replaced the rear shocks with Bilstein B6's and it was clear the previous shock absorbers had gone. A very easy job and now the handling is much better. I have still got the front ones to do.
  29. Welcome back Lee! Reckon you could start making/selling them again...
  30. I recall the name - welcome back @seanw 👋
  31. Driving home yesterday (in broad daylight) my headlamps came on (on auto), along with hazard triangle and light bulb icon, both orange. Tapped “car” on centre screen and message “check right hand high beam”. Got home, and flicked lever to high - no right high beam. Thinking that would be an expensive job, resorted to wacking the light unit with my hand - and it worked! Out again today, and lights on - no warning came up - sorted!👍 Until the next time😂
  32. Glad to see I’m not the only one! As per my original post I was able to get round it by setting the climate option to “normal” and have the rest of the options set to eco in the customisable drive mode so as to retain the eco engine behaviour - shouldn’t have to do it that way but seems best way at the moment, although given some of the earlier software horror stories I’m content with just living with this minor bug I think!
  33. I apologize to my mates for delaying so much, I had forgotten about posting the photos with the 'summer' 18s, running 225/50 Against big thanks to Carlston whose details and information are always exemplary, to help me choose the right combo ... love the way these wheels look, and the balance of perfomance and comfort of the /50 profile is .... Superb! Only one drawback though - as we had discussed preventively https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/478950-what-size-wheelstyres-will-fit-to-superb-iii/page/5/ - these are too much tuck in ... I am not a fan of spacers, but are there any which are slim enough to fit with the OE bolts? Being these rims ET43, just to bring them to the edge of the wheelarches and get a "chunkier" look, maybe will also behave better on the road but can't tell ... In any case I am delighted ❤️
  34. Mine turned up this week. Fit really well. Bottom line goes in, little screwdriver to lift the carpet around the top edge and they slip on really snugly.
  35. I find these Skoda online manuals really bad. I would really prefer a nice PDF one too.

What a crock of s***e, its a bloomin car, a means of getting from A to B and not a games console That wasn't aimed at you by the way but at the stupidity of these new vehicles and their complications. Why should who is driving the vehicle matter to a tyre pressure monitoring system? If a tyre deflates it should bring up a warning, what is the point of any new or unidentified driver resetting the system?
  37. It could just be the normal "thumpy' tyre suspension/combination. Check tyres and tyre pressures. Bridgestone Turanzas feel hard to me, they are not my favourite tyre. tom
