  1. A 70 plate Octavia has SFD protection, not SFD2. You can unlock SFD using OBDEleven and a pro licence. I know this because I have a 70 plate Octavia myself, and OBDEleven with a pro licence. I have never attempted to change the brakes on my car, but I have made other adaptions which required SFD unlock. It's a really simple / straight forward / self explanatory process, but if you've never used OBDEleven before it does pay to do some reading up before you ever use it. The garage are just leading you on mate, SFD is a VAG group security system used on all their cars since 2020. It's in place to protect a vehicle from unauthorised adaptions. Personally I think it's crap that you have to mess about like that to have your brakes changed, maybe it was all just a ploy to get people to return to them for work done for which they'd charge them double the rate of anywhere else..? Wouldn't surprise me...
  2. It's a really useful feature on those rare hot days!
  3. Well when I started this thread I had no idea how many helpful replies I would get so thank you to everyone. I have now taken the plunge and ordered an SE L with the 2.0 TSi 204PS engine, towbar and parking package. This is clearly not the most economical engine but I do like my current 2.0 TSi 190PS engine and as long as it does about the same mpg I am happy, though current petrol prices are a bit of a downer! I also got a very heavy discount on the car but don’t take delivery until June. I would be most interested to hear from anyone who has experience of the 2.0 TSi engine.
  4. +1 for Dr Beckmann! That stuff is like magic although it pains me to tell the Mrs she was right that I didn’t need to buy yet more car specific things… Hopefully the difference shows up in the photos.
  5. 2.0 SEL DSG Driving slightly more gently but still making progress, and my highest range so far, mind you it cost £100!! to refill it against the normal £75. Not a lot we can do about that though, eh?
  6. Hi everyone, when you own a Superb iV MJ 20 and above and have Canton as option, you may have discovered that it is not quite the best sound system around. The basic problem with this system is that the new designed sub for hybrid is not correctly fitted into the sound setting, Don't know exactly the reason where the error happened, but the sub setting is shifted in phase so it cancels out the bass between 40 and 50 Hz. (picture 3) Skoda/Canton is not aware of the problem and is not interested. Tried several times. No chance. A solution is to reverse the polarity of the subwoofer connector. The outer and the inner pair of wires have to change the places like this 1 2 3 4 | | | | 4 3 2 1 I made some adapters for plug and play usage, but you can do the switch by opening the connector and exchange the position of the wires. The other solution is to remove the "noses" on the connector and plug it turned upside down. After this modify the settings like in last 2 pictures, and enjoy the sound. Before changing the EQ choose preset "Classic" and turn surround completely off. Best bass performance is achieved when setting focus to driver and fader moved to the front and one click to the right. PS: this solition is working already in >60 cars up to newest production 02/22 estate and limousine, so yes, your car is affected and yes, it will improve the sound a lot. PPS: if interested in a plug n play connector - please PM. Unfortunately international shipping (from Germany) is quite expensive. PPPS: this is definitely not a solution for non hybrid versions
  7. You’ve checked for updates? Can you check on the Ross-tech website and things like that?
  8. I had a B5 Audi S4 2.7 bi-turbo with KKK K03 turbos and the weaknesses were two-fold: Split in the various post-turbo rubber hoses which caused pressure drops and overspooling and, Running the turbo hot and then turning off meant oil would sit in the veins and cook, leaving a film of oil on the inside…this would then restrict the oil veins and cause oil starvation issues. Oil starvation would lead to bearings running dry and overheating. On that basis, if the turbo is starting to get hot and loud it may be something to do with oil starvation and the bearings, which would then cause play in the shaft. But this is all speculation. Best get it checked. Or, you know, Garrett Powermax 1… And yes the car is gorgeous.

Hi! I am Ayush and I am a car enthusiast. I am very interested in knowing and learning of different vag engines and their parts, how a component works etc. I currently own a 2021 Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI which is Stage 1 Remapped from Quantum Tuning and it's been more than 2 years on that remap. So, the purpose of this post is to meet the fellow users on this platform so that I can share and learn a little bit more about other VAG cars, remaps etc. Thank you
  10. I use carscanner on my 2016 (tdi not 280 - apologies if I’m not welcome is this corner of the forum….) With this dongle https://amzn.eu/d/011CjT7Z So far not found anything that I can’t do with it. Supports long coding, and full list of more preset coding options here: https://www.carscanner.info/coding-mqb/
  11. I have no idea. But just wanted to comment on your beautiful car! If you have more pictures put them up in the picture thread for us all to drool over! 2busy? Is that the Škoda version of 2sexy?
  12. Just a quick hi as this evening I purchased a 2004 Octavia 2.0 fsi Estate. There are a few immediate jobs I need to sort out but she runs well and has lots of history. Tatty but solid RHD Mk1. My Fourtrack is on its last legs so I found something very useable and will decide whether to bury the Daihatsu or rebuild it. Hope you will not mind my future questions as I am a ŠKODA newbie.
  13. I wanted to thank @Breezy_Pete for his patience with me going off on a little wild goose chase and for providing the info that stopped me. Thank you very much, Sir.
  14. I've just got back from an 800 mile round trip to Scotland to recreate a photo from 30 years ago that my late wife took. Sadly I had nobody to take it for me this time so there was a bit of leaping into place after starting the self timer. I used ACC in anger for the first time and it worked a treat on the way up on Sunday and most of the way back - I disabled it on the busy bits of the M1. Apart from when it mis-detected something as another vehicle and braked hard at 70mph. Which was nice 🫨 37mpg up. 40mpg back.
  15. Just to say I didn't manage to get the CC activated until today. There were a few minor mix ups and I only see my Daughter's car every few months. I eventually got it done (for anyone else in Cornwall or West Devon) I got it done SW Retrofits in Saltash. Great service for £80 + VAT. . Skoda had insisted that it's not possible to fit cruise control to this model and also the the Activation code I had asked for (5E0054800) refers to another Skoda model and not my MK 3 Fabia. It wasn't looking hopeful at first either because Skoda have changed where the box for the activation codes is entered in Odis but once found it worked perfectly. It toggles nicely between the speed limiter and cruise control. I also like the little symbol on the dash which says what speed the CC is set at. I don't have that on the CC my old VW. I'd say do your research to find the correct switch for your model and note the significance of the tiny 1x mark on the switch in the pic above.
  16. I bought this and fitted it to my current Octavia Estate and have been very happy with it. It wasn't hard to fit either. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/375279768181
  17. This seems to be about my level. There is one button. You push it. Then you leave everything alone and go and have a cup of tea or several. I can beat your wife (I probably could have put that better) as mine has been in a senior management role for 52 years, all of them blissfully happy , or so it says on the directive I've just been passed.... Co-incidentally just before I read you post I opened a letter from my garage (how old school is that?) reminding me of my MOT and I'm about due for a service. Thank you for the advice. I'll be back to the forum with my next crisis shortly.

    Thanks, that’s very helpful
  21. AFAIK generally at the front you want same for one side as the other for suspension including tyres, and same with rear one side to the other, unless you're doing some specialist thing other than normal road driving.
  22. "Community Projects' - they're a laugh. The local worthies get an office in the garden (now converted to a holiday let) but the ordinary locals get bugger all. We got £700 to plant daffodils approaching the village. My suggestion of free electricity for all in the 'benefit area' was laughed it by the developers but seems pretty fair to all IMO.
  23. Paul it was at total fluke, I've already been right once this year and I can't remember the last time I was right in twice in a year. Your wife sounds similar to mine but after 48 years you get used to it. I totally agree the the instructions tell you so little. With my earlier model after connect it up as per car's 'Owner's Manual' I leave the charger a few seconds to settle and then you can also see what the volts reading is before charging. One press of the mode button, give it a second of time to switch to car 12v charging (a second press will get you 12V with snowflake symbol for charging when the ambient temperature is below say 5c) and that's it leave it to do all the work whilst you carry out the chores your wife has given you. It may take up to 24+ hours to get to full ("FUL"). If you have to break off the charging for any reason to use the car no worry just put he charger back on when you can and get the battery to full on the next session. If the charger doesn't show "FUL" after say 48+ hours charging then let us know. Just in case you don't know, if you want to you can take your car in for MoT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date. Don't forget those chores you are supposed to have done. 😉
  24. Yes - I've noticed it, quite like it to be fair.

Škoda StoryboardMake your tyres last. Pay attention to storage - Škoda St...Tyres are a key component of any car and its only point of contact with the road. For that reason, they require proper care even when they are resting in the garage. How to store them properly, and wh
  26. Having generation on the doorstep seems to have no bearing. Most of Scotland has generation nearby yet they have the highest standing charges in UK. I have about 200MW windfarm 3 miles up the road, second highest standing charges in UK. Yet those places in the South with no generation nearby have very much lower standing charges. Those furthest from generation should be paying most for the grid upgrades to carry power south not the least.
  27. Not on a 2.0 petrol as they have a timing chain!
  28. You should really replace all four, but Haldex can cope with differences across the axles IIRC. That being said, it has to be within reasonable tolerance. I don't think it matters about the same axle, as the power is only split between the front and rear. E.G. my vRS needs to have the same on the front axle with the LSD, but the back is irrelevant.
  29. There was a similar question a few weeks back - take a look here….
  30. SFD 2 was started Summer 2024
  31. OK to answer my own question for anyone searching the subject in the future. Yes you can swap the subframe along with the newer style wishbones. I'm tempted to fit vrs/audi wheel hub carriers as well so I can fit 312mm brakes (a big improvement).
  32. I'll message you requesting the VIN, which will allow me to confirm correct current part number. It's possible that the number you've seen is a sub-part of the overall assembly, or simply an error on the label. Check your messages.
  33. Its handy when you realize its raining and a window is down but its not so good when it happens as you walk away from car and the key was pressed in my pocket. Came back to carpark with all windows down. Luckily nothing in car worth taking. Alasdair
  34. You're good with "Paul you're over thinking it". You've never met me and yet diagnosed my tendency to jump to the worst case scenario and work backwards 🙂. You also get a thumbs up from my wife, who has never believed in loyalty. I've bought the Ring battery charger and it's on the car now doing its thing (or so I assume - the instructions are in those pictograms that are universally incomprehensible). Since the weekend (and I know it's only Wednesday today) the car has been starting as normal and it's had two decent runs of 40 miles or so the last two days to the vet - for those who think £100 for a battery is a lot of money, my advice is don't get a Cocker Spaniel no matter how cute they look. So I'm going to do my usual thing of crossing fingers, stick my head in the sand and hope it was "just one of those things". It is due to go in for MOT and service in the next few weeks so if nothing else goes wrong between now and then I'll get them to test the battery and charging whilst it is with them - they're a local firm that I've been going to for 10 years or so and I can trust them to be honest.
  35. Installed the second hand sun visor. What a ballache that is. I refused to pay £30 for the very specific pliers for the job. The old fitting is essentially sacrificial in this instance. Tried numerous ways to insert two screwdrivers but in the end just bust it open and broke the plastic apart then removed the metal clips. New one just clips in without any drama. This was one of those “not essential but I know it’s broken so I feel like I should fix it” Also fitted Škoda metal valve caps. I know there’s a lot of debate about these corroding on etc but I smeared the stem in a bit of antiseize in the hope that this would prevent it. I’m on the hunt for dark centre caps now too. I saw them on Ali but they disappeared and I can’t find any more. Kopacek have some but they are incredibly expensive for what they are.
  36. Plus my best friend's wife is French and they travel to Paris regularly so that may be another possibility....
  37. Thank you Bap33! I appreciate those translations, luckily my wife is fluent in German (because she is..) and we also have some Polish friends who occasionally travel to the UK with a trailer pulling an AC 289 aluminum body... That may be a possibility!
  38. Don't think there's any rush as there's huge numbers of new cars in dealerships. Just need to be prepared to travel to find the right car at the best price. I paid a little less than you in June for one with a spacesaver & variable boot floor.
  39. Hey Rich, plug and play solution - 2 minutes, no effort, no risk, fully reversible. chopping off the noses - 10 minutes, some effort, risk of cutting your fingers opening the connector and reverse the order of the wires - with proper tool - 10 minutes, without - 1 hour of trying with needle. risk of messing it up with the order. but doable. No need to know anything in electronics. Just follow the scheme.
  40. Screen wash is about the only liquid I do buy. No oil for top up or servicing etc. Cabin filter changes at servicing, no air filters or oil filters. Hence why servicing and EV is so cheap as well as its energy top ups etc.
