Thanks for the replies all. After a month I finally got the second key, which meant I had to go back to the garage, a trip of 83 miles, so it could be co-ordinated in, took an hour. Free of course. I had to chase them a bit but all's well in the end.

UPDATE - CASE SOLVED. Hi everyone, I'd like to update you guys on the case. I just came back from my Europe trip. While being in Poland I got in touch with a guy who was familiar with this issues and already cracked the case. Using ODIS he turned "predictive route data" off in 4B module and after reseting few things(I'm not familiar with ODIS) headlights on motorway are acting exactly as on A or B road... I'm still not going to use full beam on busy motorway but when driving on motorway with low traffic it's actually working well. I cancelled my appointment with Skoda because obviously my modification in system would cause them to charge me for diagnostic and knowing they approach it was not certain that I would get anywhere with this case. So there is a solution but ODIS is the best option, apparently its possible with VCDS but its more complicated. Apart from couple of people, no one really responded to my post which is a bit disappointing, but I just wanted you to know that there is a solution! Many thanks 👍

Yes, the new slide pins slide in and out. I used some BTAS ceramic brake lubricant. I made sure I cleaned the face of the hub etc. I picked up a new hub today, so shall fit that tomorrow, fingers crossed this fixes it!

Extremely unlikely that the VAG product has any 'magic ingredient' in it, just buy a reputable silicone grease.

Have you checked the brake servo vacuum hose for splits or cracks at the junctions of the hard plastic sections?

Personally I'd avoid Halfrauds. I had a dipped headlight bulb fitted by them. The car failed the MoT a few days later because the "expert" forced the bulb in upside down.

^^^ Yes i read it. Last night in motoring news. It is not only going to be only EV,s being recalled by manufacturers'. Tesla are quicker off the mark doing 'Their Recall'.

I know the recall above is Tesla specific but… flush door handles aren’t EV specific, so I don’t see how this relates to “the truth about EVs”. I also have to go back again to the fire blanket and point out you are moving the goalposts again, a long term tactic used by every conspiracy theorist for centuries - “EVs are serious fire hazard” “They don’t combust anymore frequently than ICE cars which are also a serious fire hazard” “That’s different, EVs are worse when they do combust” “That’s fair, but heres a product being developed we can use to potentially help counter the risk when they do combust” “Ahh but that’s only been shown in ideal circumstances so that doesn’t count and there’s no procedure in place for in the real world” “But it’s just a concept demonstration, of course it’s ideal, like any other concept demonstration” “Still different because reasons, they claim they don’t need to be serviced” Etc etc Everything has issues that don’t come to light until available and in use en masse. If theres a wobble on disc check hub face for any dirt corosion first. Doesnt take much to throw the disc out. Could be a bad disc but as its heated up before disc/caliper change and no handbrake cable I reckon its the hub thats maybe out of alignment or bearing is shot. Used to have similar problems on an old volvo 940. I got a dial guage to check trueness of hubs/discs and it was out slightly on rear. From memory it was after my folks spun car in snow and hit kerb. Everyone who is seeing this problem should report it to the DVSA https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-recalls-and-faults/report-a-serious-safety-defect That way , there's at least a chance that VAG will be forced to admit there's a problem

Final connections made on the aftermarket blind spot detection kit this evening. All working well as intended. Next step is to experiment with OEM LEDs to see if I can make them work.

Hard to tell but I had a negative sniff test at first then I got a positive once I’d replaced the egr cooler and the charge cooler, ended up being the head gasket. Diag can be really tricky as there can be a few issues that combine to hide the true state of the engine. I thought I had it but then I ended up with another issue that was linked but made worse so needs some careful diag. I have a who thread on the diag and fix of mine if this helps at all?

Have found the same. Brake disc sizes are entirely random despite the make, model and trim confirmed. @Breezy_Pete knows his onions so take that as gospel. And tbh I’d just google it and see what comes up. Skoda parts is always an option.

Thanks for the reply no other error light doors/ seatbelt appear to be working correctly. Doesn't appear to be a problem with the battery, it was replaced 6 months ago. I tried error checking with Carista and that came up with 8 errors.. I cleared them but 3 returned. 1 with the infotainment system 1 with telematics and 1 with the multi functional module I'm on holiday at the moment so further investigation when I get home

There is no DPF. it is a 2013 1.8 TSI.

Ignore, I missed that it' a TSI! ☹️ I'd walk away from that - that yearly mileage for the past three years will not have done any favours to the DPF - if it's actually still in place (should be MOT failure if removed). DPF regen history would make interesting reading!

. @reedy10 Welcome to the forum. I am pretty deaf but it sounds pretty rubbish. Have you seen and read the Pinned thread on the 1.8TSI & 2.0TSI,s at the top of the Octavia Mk2 Forum? Maybe this engine has had work done, or maybe it could be an excessive oil drinker. 1.8TSI,s are a lottery. 76 pages of many horrors. Any record showing spark plugs changed any time recently, or air filter?

Dealer. 53 k miles, definitely matches mot. Been driven last 3 years 2 - 3 thousand a year only. No record of exvess use. Tes tappety sounds right. Ither than this the car looks great.

Welcome to the forum. Is this private or dealer sale? What is recorded mileage, does this match MOT history? I don't hear anything particularly unusual with that recording, possibly a little 'tappety' is there any record of excess engine oil use? Strongly suggest getting an independent vehicle inspection though.

My new AT,s are going on early ready for this years snowmaggedon. While the price is right.

@Graham Butcher I would not want some of the early EV crap. Point just is there was an EV generation before Tesla. C1,s were converted to EV,s. Point is that doing Google searches is all good and well, but all this stuff is mentioned again and again and is still in many people's minds without a google. Hoorah on the Recall of vehicles with hidden door handles. Unlikely the EU or UK authorities will be requiring the same from manufacturers. But they are going to have to design cars differently.

Not sure on the MK3 but if the bolts go through the wheel bearing hub from front the may protrude on the inside. If so make sure the exposed threads of bolts are clean. Just done my daughters volvo front bearing and used a wire brush on drill to clean up exposed threads. If you try and remove bolts with corrosion/dirt on exposed threads they can seize/break or damage hub carrier. Alasdair

Have had loads of cars with splashguards missing and passed MOT. Only once failed as it was loose but MOT guy kindly pulled it off and passed it. The bolts on my sons MK1 fabia were remarkably good though that was on front and small allen type. I soaked in penetrating oil for a few days. On the rear It may be the hub bolts that you are seeing? From memory I think you have to remove hub to replace splash guards on rear as its sandwichd between Alasdair

If they don’t come up with the second key, speak to the dealer principal to see if they will supply one foc. If not buy one. The car is not faulty if otherwise it is ok. You need to chase them rather than be dismayed when they haven’t contacted you.

So I've had the car four weeks now. Replaced the leather sides of the DSG knob as they were worn with some Ali Express specials. Sorry no photos but they fitted fine. Also replaced the door puddle lights with some LED units, bit chavy but hey-ho. Had to take the passenger door card off as someone had previously been there before and the cable was way too short. Sorted now though.

Thanks - I disconnected it at the caliper end. It was also rested correctly on its stopper (before I disconnected it) - I’ve attached a photo.

Tell them that knock sensors and the ECU hardware and software that interacts with them react in fractions of a second, so their argument is utter tosh.

Welcome to the forum. Provided you do not mix tyre sizes, ABS won't be affected - but a change in tyre rolling circumference will affect the speedometer reading to some extent - check a tyre site like 'Will they fit' and enter old and new tyre data. Manufacturers are usually mandated to set speedo to read high - so up to a 5% tyre circumference increase might actually make the speed reading more accurate.

Good choice as you can't beat an old school PD engine as with annual oil changes they run forever, I got rid of my PD140 at 200k and it was still running strong.

UPDATE: took off drivers side wheel and arch liner. Saw the latch cable in the gap behind the headlight. Fished it out and gave it a good yank and it popped the bonnet/hood. The junction box of cables had come apart. Closed it in place and it seems to be working now.

I can't comment as I don't know enough about the TDI engines, but I will say that VAG oil/coolant consumption figures tend to be a bit of a joke. IIRC VW say that it is normal to burn up to a litre of oil for every 1,000 miles or so - if your car is anywhere near this, you have something wrong.
