Retrofitting Cruise Control

Featured Replies

I recently took delivery of a new Octy III 1.6 TDI - my first ever brand new car :-)

However, due to an impending MOT I decided to source it pre-built, rather than placing an order from scratch, which meant that I had to compromise on a couple of things...

Generally I'm very happy with my new toy, but I would ideally have liked to have had it factory fitted with cruise control.

Having done a little research it would appear that it should be possible to retrofit cruise control to it and I've even managed to locate what I believe is the correct part number - 5E0 054 800B - from what appears to be a Latvian accessories catalogue:

http://www.skoda.lv/files/accessories/octavia.pdf

However, I'm not having much joy from either my dealer, or SUK, in terms of getting confirmation as to whether the part is indeed available within the UK and, if it is, how much it will cost to install.

Going by the previous Octy accessories catalogue I'm expecting it to be in the region of £190 installed.

I don't suppose anyone can enlighten me with further information?

Thanks in advance guys.

Rob

There are two different types. The additional stalk in the brochure is for adaptive cruise control and that needs the radar sensors too, so you won't realistically be able to retrofit it.

The basic cruise control has the buttons integrated into the indicator stalk, like on the MKII. That was an easy retrofit and may be just as simple in the MKIII.

You cant retrofit anything on the new Oct. Everything has to go via Skodas server.

On my mark II VRS it was a simple £120 retrofit, I would hope that the basic cruise control on the mark III would be the same. Love to know how they justify a 50% increase in the cost of basic cruise control as technology usually gets cheaper over time!

Really? How do you know that? It looks like you can turn stuff on and off on the install list in VCDS...

It may be possible, try calling some service departments and see what they can do (if you have already done this then sorry for suggesting again).

On my Fabia, I wanted cruise but I was being a bit of a cheapskate and didn't fancy a minimum of a three month wait so took the show room car at an incredible price with the intention of having it retrofitted. Initially this was not possible, it being at least a year before it was by which time I had decided I could live without it. Also, the parts where £180 and fitting was almost the same :( (note, some of the independents do these for the existing models at cheaper rates than Skoda).

So if my experience with the Furby is anything to go by, yes it will probably be possible, but maybe not straight away. And the cost could be prohibitive unless you really want it.

This time round I have chosen to wait for delivery and have gone for ACC. May even get a chance to try it soon as the car was built last week :)

Not sure if this helps or not but....

The vRS I'm picking up on Friday (fingers crossed) doesn't have cruise but my dealer said they could retrofit it. Said it would be about £300 but that the parts made up the majority of the cost. Have to say they did seem pretty up for changing spec/colours/parts for their customers so I'm assuming they knew what they are talking about. That said I'm not sure if they actually have performed the retrofit on a mk3 yet though.

Normal cruise will just be a new stalk and coding. It's a quick job to swap over the stalk to one with cruise. When vcds gets updated with the full coding it will be easy for anyone to retrofit.

That's what I'm looking for and hoping the dealer can provide ollybroad.

Given that the car's brand new I'd rather have it done by the dealer if possible and at least that way I shouldn't suffer any warranty niggles.

As long as they can code it shouldn't be an issue for the dealer.

Dealers will struggle to code, they have no info and technical won't advise them on a car that didn't come with it

I coded DSG paddles for someone on here who went to his local VW dealer and they couldn't code that simple job

I haven't seen the matrix for the latest BCM/CECM levels/functions so an upgrade may be required.

Has anyone managed to do this yet? I've been offered a rather tempting deal on my local dealers test car, but it doesn't have cruise control, and I'd really like to get it fitted!

I'd like to know this too :)

A Guildford based dealer said they could get the basic cruise control fitted for me by a freelance VW/Audi technician for £345 which would come under the car's warranty but, did add they in their own workshops could not do it.  So it is possible even if a little expensive, I suppose it depends just how tempting the showroom model is really.

Good luck with that, I haven't seen any info anywhere on coding cruise control on the MQB platform. Some things that were simple to do on the A5 chassis with VCDS still haven't been documented for the MQB, component protection and encryption are involved.

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

I think we agree that a call to the dealer may be useful to find out the price if it is indeed possible to retro fit. At least until the 'know-how' becomes widespread.

I can't imagine them doing it for less than the cost of adding it at the build stage though or no one would order at that point.

I don't think VAS will allow dealers to code items that were not there when the car left the factory without authorisation from Skoda.

Yep, well the dealer has said that it is not possible, which is a bit of a bummer. But I was hoping others might know better. It's not looking good on that front then :(

See the link below, £85.16 for the part. Not sure how much it would cost to bolt to your car and make it do it's thing but I guess not too much.  I'm sure two minutes on the phone to a dealer would give the answer

Why on earth would you "guess not too much" the guy is in a monopolistic position with countless knows how many training courses & bit of kit to pay for & as someone else said the component protection and encryption that are involved haven't been broken yet.  If you've got £2 or 3k off the list price for a showroom model without cruise and you've gotta have it well £345 ain't that much, is it ?

Has anyone managed to get one of these retrofitted yet?

Still not yet, I've sent a couple of emails out regarding this, but nothing back as of yet.

I've had this back from Skoda parts Ireland today:

Hello Michael

Im afraid the part number BEA300003 will not work for the MK 3 Octavia. There is no cruise control switch available as yet, but hopefully in 2nd half of this year.

I too am waiting to have this done. Standard CC was advertised on the demonstrator I bought but wasn't actually fitted and I failed to spot this before taking delivery (YES, I'm blue from kicking myself!). I have agreed half and half cost share with them to fit it once SUK authorises dealers to do this. Told it means replacing the left hand stalk (obviously), plus a single feed wire to this from somewhere suitable. Dealer in Winchester said last week SUK still doesn't list the mod as approved, so guess we'll all have to wait till that happens.

However, if it takes more than a month or two then I'll be writing to SUK to try and jolly them up.
