Living With A Sportline Plus 272 Hatch

Featured Replies

Hi guys. It would seem my woes continue. Has anyone has any issues with the automatic break being applied when you come to a stand still. I have noticed mine won’t come on anymore so when I take my foot off the break the car wants to roll forward. The green light with a foot no longer comes on. Is this a setting on the car that I have maybe changed or is it a fault?

cheers

Back in the Phantom Menace for my last night shift tonight after wife decided to visit our friend Emma in South Nottingham this afternoon and collected some garden produce on the way to work from my parents back garden. Used some country roads for a change and the big bus handles pretty well with loads of grip on the Michelin Pilot Sports. In the morning I filled the Karoq as it passed 403 miles and it used 40.09 litres due to wife having to do more short trips (home visits) which cost £42.86 and the tank average was 45.69mpg as the car passed 26,400 miles.:emoticon-0157-sun:

Been 7 months and 12 days since I bought the Superb and just like my previous car from Skoda the Octavia Vrs245 it has been 100% reliable and build quality has been faultless with no rattles or untoward noises. Now passed 7,000 miles on the commute home and will be driving it 5 times next week starting on Wednesday as a colleague is flying to Kenya for 4 weeks to visit his family so my company asked me to cover days while a relief officer does my nights. Wife is happy on 2 counts.

Checked under settings in the vehicle menu just now and first oil change from when it left the factory is due in 140 days or in 5,100 miles which should mean it will need a garage visit around 1 year after I bought it last December. This is a free service which is something I negotiated with the local Skoda dealer when I bought the car. Current mileage is 11,907 so that will mean an oil change around 17,000 miles which is better than I expected from the performance available with this engine.🚗

Try the 'A' button, next to the handbrake button.

Yeah I use the (A) autohold button at traffic lights so you leave it in drive then press to release when the lights change. Much easier.

No need to press the Autohold button to release it when in "D",  just depress the gas pedal. The system just depressurizes the brakes, unlike when using the parking brake, where the motors have to unwind the rear calipers.

Thanks still learning stuff regarding DSG and how it works. Will try that on Wednesday when I go back to work.

If the Autohold system is switched on, it sometimes helps if you apply firm pressure on the brake pedal. Releasing said pressure should = the car won't move & the RPM's drop to the normal idling speed.

No worries, that's it how it works on our Golfs.

FWIW, 17k miles is about right when using the factory-fill long-life oil. My personal choice for all of our cars was to switch to VW 502 spec. 5W40 oil, & change it every 12K miles or 12 months. Yes, it's going to cost more, especially re, labour & oil filters but if you purchase your own oil (& can persuade the garage to  use it)  it's not so expensive. I'm currently using Shell Helix, delivered free from Europarts, Car parts for less, etc. I've had £90 deducted from an oils service bill (VW dealer), 2 x 5 litres of oil cost me £39. Your Superb takes approx 5.5 litres, so next years service will only 1 x 5 litres to be purchased....

Last 3 commutes have seen 43.9/41.7 and 45.5mpg thanks to the warm temperatures and the mileage is now 11,988 and the long term economy on maxidot is 40.2mpg after 40 hours driving at an average 45mph (last 1,800 miles). Driven 315 miles on half a tank so far.:emoticon-0157-sun:

Just realised it's been a month since I put the RS6 replica's fitted with the 235/35R19 Michelin Pilot Sport tyres on the Superb and they are giving similar mpg as the factory Bridgestone S001 despite offering even more grip and traction even in the wet. I can't fault these and only a slight increase in motorway tyre noise and I highly recommend anyone thinking of choosing them to go for it. Done 1,300 miles on them so far this summer and current tank over 400 miles just commuting showing 39.5mpg overall with 600+ range indicated.

What's the speed difference with those tyres? Are you increasing you dial speed to match real speed or always going by the indicated?

The lower profile over the standard 40 profile means they are rotatting 3-4% faster so I'm still driving based on the indicated speed on the dashboard rather than relying on GPS timing plus the journey time is still around 37 minutes for my 27.3 mile commute regardless of the tyres fitted and time is time whichever way you look at it.:hi:

I guess as long as you stay legal and travel times are within personal tolerance all is good. Do your insurance company know?

Of course they even know I painted the brake calipers Skoda Rallye Green. One interesting point which surprised me was when I swapped the wheels over and set the tyre pressures to my choice of 2.5bar allround I didn't need to reset the TPMS as the car was happy with my settings without having to confirm and reset which sometimes happens on our Karoq for example. My average speed has stayed the same for my commute at 43mph BTW regardless of whether running the PS4 or S001.:)

Torrential rain :rain: this morning on my commute cross country route today as roadworks (no advanced notice) caused me an extra 14 miles making 41 miles to get to work yesterday and took 52 minutes rather than the usual 37 minutes. Lots of standing water and deep puddles yet the 4WD Superb brushed them away with no drama unlike a rear wheel drive BMW which would have been nerve racking (exciting) in these conditions. Despite lengthy roadworks at each end of the journey the car still managed 39.7mpg which matches the since refuelling figure over 504 miles so far with 95 miles left in the tank (current range 599 miles better than any EV currently on sale me thinks).

Can I ask how much your insurance increased with the remap and who you’re with?

When I bought the car last December I paid an extra £58 IIRC over my stage 2 Octavia Vrs245 until early May 2020 when I shopped around and got a cracking deal with LV which appreciate my age (55), clean licence and 15 years NCB so I now pay less for the 360bhp Superb than I did in May 2019 with the Octavia. I believe the Vrs is also Group 31 INSURANCE (out of 50 groups) whereas the Superb is in group 29. Finally I live in an area with little crime despite 2 people owning BMW M4 Coupes nearby. Also my wife's Karoq insurance went down with LV due to a multi-car policy as we have only a couple of days between our policies. Skoda Insurance wanted twice as much at £530 but then they have always been expensive.:hi:

Superb having a much deserved rest until Friday when I go back to work. Might get some Momentum on Wednesday from the nearest Tesco garage which is 4 miles away but it is so cheap there compared to the more convenient and local Shell garage we can combine a weekly shopping trip and still only use about one litre of fuel at £1.15 rather than £1.32 at Shell.

Ended up filling the car earlier than I had planned to check how much it weighed. With nothing removed including about 30kg of work stuff and near enough a full tank of fuel (probably 64 litres onboard) @Roscio it came to a wet total of 1,660kg and with me 1,740kg and cost me nothing thanks to my mate Dave for fitting me in between 2 lorries. Could have got it down to 1,630kg easily by removing items which you wouldn't want/need for a trip to say Santa Pod. With a quarter of a tank the weight would probably close to 1,600kg for ultimate performance. Having filled the car at an expensive Shell garage in the end a quick update on the last tank which surprised me for all the right reasons. Sorry to keep upsetting @ColinD with these figures but 535 miles driven using 60.82 litres at 39.99mpg. Overall after 7,306 miles at a cost of £1,058 exactly using 841.11 litres of 99 octane fuel for an overall average of 39.49mpg reflected by the Long Term which dropped slightly to exactly 40mpg.
