I started experiencing exactly the same issues in last few days. Could it be that this started because of some update or some online service? These issues had mostly be resolved with fw 1941. It's strange that many owners started having problems again now...

  • I had so many spontaneous reboots this week with even 4 occurring on the same day that the infotainment system was practically unusable. That’s why I decided to go ahead and install 1941 yesterday.

I also had the same constant dropping out of the eSIM signal after receiving a comms unit update (I can't remember the exact update description but it said that things like traffic, sat-nav and SOS wouldn't be working whilst it updated) a few weeks ago. It was connecting / disconnecting for the rest of that day but when i used the car a day or two later it was back to working OK again.

Hi. I didn't even notice this. I know I've experienced the poppop sounds and restarting maybe a week ago. I don't exactly remember, but there was an update maybe a week or two before that.

I'm out of my country right now and the car is driving me mad. The infotainment restarted at least 100 times during my last 4,5 hour drive.

At the end of Year 2 my Online Communications Unit (the component that links to the Skoda network) was replaced. That improved matters greatly following two years of frustration with constant infotainment restarts. I suspect that the issue with the globe-symbol greying-out - with the red X beside it - is due to Skoda network non-connectivity. I base this upon finding  that in ‘known’ telecommunications black-spots where cell-phone signals are unavailable eg in remote countryside areas that the Red X alongside the Globe occurs. Upon driving to an area with cellphone coverage the infotainment reconnects.

SW 1941 ironed out several problems but without the new OCU I suspect I would have continued to experience what I believe to be network connectivity issues.

Just a quick update...

I left my car for a day and a half in the garage and when I returned and started the engine, I got the message that the battery was low and the infotainment would be turned off (or something like that). Anyway, the infotainment did not turn off and I haven't had a single restart since.

Btw. today I saw the mail from Skoda that my "Škoda Connect: services have been deactivated" (the free one-year service is over). I got it exactly on the day the poppop sound and restarts started. To me, it looks like this deactivation did not go through completely and until it completed this process fully, the system kept restarting and retrying. Also, this problem started when the car was deep in the underground garage with a very bad mobile signal.

I have always suspected that this issue is caused by data transfer.

The only way is to substitute the display unit. Mine substituted under guarantee yesterday changed its version from:

Unit display hardware version from H44 to H49

Unit display software version from 2088 to 2103

It seems this display unit is the one from 2023 that solved this annoying problem

At the moment all is fine.

Hello,

Did this replacement solve the problems?

I bought one Octavia IV in 2024, which already has Unit display hardware version H49 + Unit display software 2103.

thank you very much

Hello all,

As many other people I also have infotainment restart, sound clicking problem.

My car wasn't used by last 6 days (I am at holiday now) and yesterday problem appear.

As I see it is globally problem, and should be fixed.

My history is also similar to another user here. I am second owner od the car. When I bought i couldn't change master owner. I went to the official service then they do some updates (and also change user name and details on their online system).

After that everything works great till yesterday.

Problem exist even i switch to privacy mode (incognito icon).

What i did (and still have problems):

removed my phones from car

clear cache and data in Android Auto app

disconnect any phone from infotainment

restart infotainment (10sec)

I think if it is global problem should be fixed for free (for first use, bring master user function) i paid over 150€ for fix.

Now the radio terribly crash... Most annoying is Spotify reconnect so music start and stop...

Fun fact:

If someone have HUD display, it still works and show arrow how to drive - so navigation work.

Could someone explain how to do update? Step by step and how to fit firmware to my version of car? Here is some details:

Hardware: H56

Software: 1941

Hardware ABT: H44

Software ABT: 2088

Navigation Database: 23.6

Codecs: 3.1.4

Btw.: Anyone tried to update map?

For me they would change screen.

So update to 1941 fixed some issues, then we updated to 1969 but problem still exists, now skoda factory said to replace screen in warranty.

You are lucky cause they will not charge You for that... They replace screen and "pc"? Do You have more information about replacement?

Yes, because its around 1000€. I have currently only information that parts are on way and have date for replacement. Will report when they will change.

Well, today I got little update - little travel during update and no clicking or radio reboot.

My 22 VRS has just started playing up - sat Nav getting lost (wrong county and wrong country!), my radio switches on automatically and systematically increases in volume till it max’s out. My software is version 1941. The car is going into the dealer in September - any recommendations?

Only see if they'll update it to 1969.

I've asked for mine to be done in 8 days time when one of my services gets done and they find out why the virtual pedal isn't working despite it being shown as active in the infotainment system.

I've had a few glitches appear since my car received a few OTA updates.

Hi CAtk.  You have my sympathy.  I’ve had this problem (not the nav switching county and country) for a couple of years and no software updates or trips to Skoda dealers have produced anything other than temporary respites.  Radio spontaneously coming on and increasing in volume even when the car is locked and switched off.   It’s happened when I’ve been driving too.  Info screen going crazy, switching on and off randomly, and randomly showing clock, nav, radio on-screen each time it switches back on.  The on/off intervals vary from half a second to several seconds, sometimes accompanied by clicks, sometimes not.

The three dealers I’ve used who have all attempted to provide a permanent fix to the car, and failed, have all said that they’ve not encountered Octavias with this problem before, which seems scarcely believable.
It seems inconceivable that Skoda are unaware that the problem is as widespread as it obviously is from the various forums complaining of this problem.   Might it be that Skoda know about the problem but have no permanent solution and are reluctant to admit it.  I would be really interested to know if anybody with an Octavia who has experienced these problems has ever had a permanent fix made through software or hardware updates/replacement.   My own feelings are that the internal design of the unit fitted in the Octavia mk4 is inherently faulty, so fitting a new similar unit won’t make the problem go away, nor will any amount of software updates, and Skoda know this.

I don’t know if the recently updated new 2024 Octavia mk4 has a different version of the infotainment system, but it would be great to find out if anyone has experienced any problems with it.

It’s disgraceful that Skoda can’t offer their dealers any way of sorting this problem, yet still take money from Octavia customers who keep hoping that the next software update will cure all.  My car has had this problem from new, has never been permanently fixed, is now out of warranty, and all future potential fixes will have to be paid for.  It cost me £100 for the last failed fix when I was away on holiday!
As I’ve mentioned previously in another post, very high temperatures inside the car, as you might get when it’s locked and in full sun, seem to trigger the infotainment/radio switching  on randomly and going berserk.   For the past two years, when it’s been practicable, I’ve been covering the windscreen with a reflective heat panel, putting a heat absorbing cloth over the infotainment screen and also leaving the windows open a smidge whenever possible.  Not once when I’ve done this has the infotainment system switched itself on spontaneously.  Surely this must be a significant pointer to the problem.

I love the car, but wouldn’t ever buy another Octavia until and unless Skoda made the infotainment system utterly reliable and a helluva lot easier to operate on the move.  The new Superb has decent controls, why not the Octavia?!

Well I won't be having another one. I can't afford it anymore.

The infotainment system has been better since 1941, but updates have allowed glitches in.

Anway I'm still looking at smaller cars, just wish they'd do the Fabia in RS trim. But ho hum.

Thanks for the note - here is the bad news - mine is a mk iv VRS and the problem is in the new model too - interesting that the problem started when the car was in full sun for a few days - that is a clue for Škoda to consider.

Hi CAtk,

You mentioned that the problem is in the new model too.  Do you mean the new, updated and revised 2024 Octavia Mk4?   If so, just wondered where you got that info.

Just out of interest, I looked up the last software update that was done in June this year and it was only the 1941 version.   Strange, as it would seem that version 1969 was available in June.   I have no idea why the dealer didn't upload it.   Maybe it doesn't work as well as it should and introduces too many additional problems into the system.

His info says he has a 2022 vRS and as the vRS facelift has only just been made available to order for a week i don't think it is a facelift car he has.

Sorry all - I was unaware of the 2024 facelift model. The info system is worse than ever today - only remedial is to switch it all off - no satnav or anything else. I haven’t tried but does this problem occur with a sync’d phone? could I switch to an emulation??

I have the same issue with my Octavia. The car is 2 weeks old (mk2024, pre-facelift model), so far the issue occurred twice (first time when I took the car, second time today) - Columbus has restarted several times and, after several restarts, went into black screen, few warnings popped out (SOS, parking sensors..). After I pressed the power button for 10 seconds Columbus started again, but warnings remained. All warnings were cleaned upon starting the car again and then I drove my car normally without any issue. SW version is 1969, HW version is H67.

I knew for the issue earlier but I thought it is fixed by the SW updates. Otherwise I would be considering buying other car than Skoda. I will check this with my dealer, but reading the forum I am doubt this can be solved.

Has anyone tried cleaning the screen with a product for glasses? I noticed that after cleaning the screen and touch buttons, I no longer have rebooting issues.

I have the software 1941 ad my car was rebooting often, it was not having a reboot with old software (1668) ad privacy mode (no internet services enabled)

I just use Lidl glass/window cleaner on mine.

Yes, It Is the one I used to clean the screen and also the on/off button and the volume bar, maybe it was a case I had not a single reboot.

Back to having this issue. Radio turning on and off 100 times on a journey. Can’t restart it cause it turns itself off during the time it takes me to hold the off button down. Radio blasting itself in the car overnight when the car is locked and ignition off. 😒
