Something has definitely happened in the last couple of days, apart from my above mention of the warning bongs/screen, all my personal settings have been reset, the two I noticed this a.m., the radio doesn't shut off when reversing and the rear wipe now does its thing every minute or so when the front ones are on - I'll have to go through the settings when I get a spare half hour.....?

Talking with a friend of mine, who know coding quite well, we realized mechanic just replaced the unit a screen without doing the replacement procedure first! That’s why the licenses/FEXs were NOT transferred from old unit to the new one

No mention of this on any of the main news channels, or at least not that I can find. If that happens, then it just shows the folly of the UK energy strategy: no more drilling in the North Sea, refiners closing/closed down, and reduced stocks of both oil and gas. What for? So that the politicians can stick their chests out and brag to their counterparts that the UK has more to reduce emissions than anyone else. Have we? In reality, haven't we just shipped all of our emissions overseas and made theirs worse as a result of that mentality? UK manufacturing moved overseas, and jobs were lost, sitting on vast fields of oil and gas that we can't touch because we lacked the forward critical thinking required to think it through before committing to such a dangerous path as Net Zero. European fuel stations running out of fuel as over 10% of them in France run out. Also Saudi, worlds larfest exporter of crude, has told Europe it will get no crude deliveries in October ! Should boost EV new and old sales which are already at record levels and cars moving off car lots faster than ice cars.

Car is 2016 Octy vRS diesel CUNA code engine, 150,000 miles. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to find out if the ECU has been chipped? Bought the car as the fourth owner and it came with 2cm wide wheel spacers all round which indicates that at least one of the past owners "pressed on" somewhat. In my ownership it's had the spacers removed (!!!), new DPF, new Bosch pressure & EGT sensors and repairs to a previously bodged turbo change; all done by a specialist VAG workshop I have been with for over 30 years with various Audi, Skoda and SEAT cars. Since the DPF and EGT sensor change, it persistently throws error code P2084 usually after a bit of gentle acceleration, which the workshop says is nothing to worry about. There is no loss of performance and it clears with a basic code reader. The workshop believe it to have been chipped at some stage which is why it keeps throwing the code; is this feasible and is there any easy way to check?

The difficulty with the online searches is the number of owners who report DSG problems is greater than I’m on those who have no problems. Clutch packs can wear same as a traditional manual so no different really except perhaps in cost. Mechatronic unit is the other failure item but never really find out why they fail. I saw a comment recently that the DSG failure rate DSG with the 1.5 TSI engine is the best combination. There is a dry clutch DSG 2013 VW pool car at work, it’s just had a mechatronic unit replaced at 75k miles, cost £1800, it’s driven by many people with varying levels of skill and mechanical sympathy, so I’m not surprised. We’ve got a dry clutch 2015 Fabia no issues with the DSG, I had a wet clutch DSG 2013 VW no issues with in 108,000 miles and I towed a twin axle car trailer with it as well. Your battery is an 096 EFB 70 Ah. Any reputable brand meeting this spec will be OK. If you change battery spec (to AGM or a different Ah capacity) then it MUST be coded. I have used batteries from VARTA an YUASA, supplied by TAYNA in the UK. It WILL WORK if fitted without coding but as PetrolDave said it SHOULD be coded in order to ensure correct operation of charging by the cars Battery Management System. I cannot say whether this is the only problem, but if there are other problems they cannot be dealt with until the battery is performing properly. If all is well when new battery is fitted you will probably get all sorts of alarm warnings and fault codes but these should clear themselves in just a few minutes when the car is started and driven.

After previous good experience with an Aygo I'm switching to Toyota after reading of (and helping tackle) the numerous software problems on Skoda's newer than my 2016 Octavia 3. VAG software outsourcing has been IMHO an unmitigated disaster which they have simply taken far too long to solve after making owners into effectively beta (or even alpha) testers - Skoda is a victim of that strategy.

If it is the original battery then 9 years life on a car with start/stop is pretty amazing. You SHOULD code a new battery so the Battery Management System knows straight away the capacity and can assume it's fully charged.

Hi, Buying a new 27 plate Skoda Karoq 1.5 with DSG gearbox. Interested to know what mileage you have on your Karoq with the 1.5 DSG and any issues you have encountered. Online searches seem to imply they blow up at 30k or go on for ever. Interested in real world driving. I do a 50/50 mix of country urban and motorway. Thank you.

I've probably said this before but Skoda have effectively been screwed over in recent years by VW Group taking thier software tech in-house and making a complete hash of it and by forcing their dealers 'upmarket' into fancy glass showrooms. They were better when neither were in place. I'd consider another Skoda in a few years when they've proved they've sorted software issues out but at present I'm happy with our 2018 Kodiaq and 2017 Citigo. If they don't get things sorted I'll be back looking at bigger Dacias or Kia / Hyundai or similar. Even a Chinese brand like Jaecoo might be on the list...

Check there is a cable from car to pads. If its there there should be a wear indicator built in to pads and be connected. On my Octavia it doesnt have one but some did so you can get pads with or without indicator. If the pads fitted dont have the indicator built in and theres a cable there for it but not connected the system wont work. From memory when pads wear it makes contact with disk and turns light on. Sorry you’ve got the same problem as us. We’ve had two steering racks fitted which each time give a brief interlude from noise. I was thinking it was shock absorber but maybe not what with your experience. My car to go back to garage next week for More investigations. I filled up at CostCo a couple of days ago and super has gone up 2p since then. Happily I'm not planning on going far unlike earlier this year when the prices leapt up just as I was about to drive up to Scotland on holiday.

I've bought 3 new and 1 used Skoda over the past 24 years, and have similar thoughts. Already when buying latest (used) manual diesel vRS back in 2019, I was thinking that this might be my last Skoda purchase, makes me sad because previous 3 new Skoda purchases were fantastic in almost every aspect. The Karoq used to be my go to choice for the next car right until they stopped equipping it with manual gearbox diesels and the Varioflex seating. I guess the ownership of Roomster and Mk1 Superb has built up my idea of what a good car should be, and the current Skoda offerings fly far below my level of expectations. Cutting fuel tanks and range while simultaneously making the (larger fuel tank) higher end models too wide and too long for UK daily life also did not help, all parking spots in my area are still the same size as 25 years ago and for long distance travel to Europe, the only manual diesel left in the new car range is the Octavia, with a pathetic 45l fuel tank (Mk1 Octavia vented diesel fuel tank was 64l !). I am increasingly looking towards Mazda, especially that you can get 3.3l V6 diesels in their SUVs (though automatic only) as well as a large-ish 2.5l non-turbo petrol engine mated to a manual gearbox in a much smaller car that I can still actually fit in (Mazda 3).

But point I’d like to keep on using at least smart link to connect my iPhone as GPS and vocal commands. However I didn’t patch unit at all; only thing I can do right now will be upgrading the MIB’s firmware to version 324 or 330 (actually is 320)

Only doing 7,000 miles a year is the very reason to change from how they leave the factory on variable / flexible servicing and go to fixed / annual oil and filter changed and an inspection Annually unless doing regular checks yourself. As advised by VW group / Skoda.

Have a look on yours (anyone with a mk4, please!), I don't own one, or I would. 🙂 Quite likely possible to get a camera phone pic without lifting vehicle, by reaching under bumper in each corner.

@Breezy_Pete Dunno - based on the Owner's Manuals I'd EXPECT all Fabia Mk4 models (or any 2020-onwards car for that matter) to have a brake-pad-wear warning system. Perhaps you could do as you suggested to Lar and "Look to see if there's a wire coming from any of the inner brake pads" with your Mk4. This 2019 topic discussed Fabia Mk3 brake pads https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/468756-brake-pad-wear-sensors-on-mkiii/ so some Mk4s may have pad-wear sensors and some may not, depending on the car's specification.
