Hi @dan245 I had a Octavia vRS CR DSG for 13 years. Loved the car and covered 139k mostly trouble free miles in it. April '25 I changed it for a '23 (73 plate) Karoq 2.0 tsi Sport line. I also tow a caravan with both. What I liked about the Octavia: Looks good 😊 Fuel consumption. Solo 50+, towing 30 Boot size Comfortable seats How does the Karoq compare: It's a mid sized SUV, personally I prefer the look of the Octavia hatch Fuel consumption whilst not as good solo it's only 1 or 2 mpg less when towing. The cheaper unleaded offsets this. The boot on the Karoq is easier to load (I have a spare wheel so a false floor) but it is smaller than the Octavia. Seats are more comfortable than the Octavia The ride I find is similar between the two although I don't have DCC. Even with the 45 profile tyres it's ok. As for towing, it's so much better. I had a tow trust detachable tow bar fitted along with the dedicated electrics by a local mobile fitter. Works as it should. Just check the vin to make sure it can be coded. Agree about the matrix headlights. Never been flashed but try not to think about replacing. Hope this helps

It’s a slippery slope. Then when you’ve exhausted the cheap parts you move on to more expensive projects! I’m fast heading towards the only thing left to do is order an eibach pro kit and lower it! Then I’ll have to convince the Mrs she needs things for her kodiaq!

One of the biggest disadvantages in the Sportline is the ridiculous 40 profile tyres fitted to the 19" wheels. The wheels are also 8J rather than the 7J in the rest of the range, so the standard 215 tyres give little protection to the rims over potholes & when parking. I have a SEL Edition that came with 18/50 & I dropped those to 17/55. You're already aware of the issues with the sunroof & while the dancing headlights sound great, it's something else to go wrong as the car ages. We're already seeing instances of LED indicator failures requiring a whole headlight replacement at over £1k. Whatever you go for, buying from an authorised dealer seems essential for the warranty, as does extending it as soon as it expires. Door locks, shock absorbers, electric boot struts & software issues all seem common.

Doubt the difference bewteen 94 and 91 would make any real difference but the increased side wall will help. 205/55/16 against 225/45/17 side wall difference is about 3/4" more. I run 205/55/16 on my mk2. Mid range GT radial FE2 94V and its not bad plus good tyres in dry and wet. Son has 15" GT radial all season on his fabia and again good tyre in dry and wet Alasdair

Everything has been back to normal for a few weeks now, I don't know if it was the car or the android auto. Skoda said there is nothing wrong with the audio system. I hope it continues to work..

Had different but similar warnings on my mk2 58plate 1.9tdi. Foglight symbol on bright with lights even if the fogs were off. Also quite a few dim lights. EML just showing,DPF just showing and a few that came and went all dim etc. I dont have DPF so I removed cluster and cleaned terminals etc and replaced and cured the phantom lights. Reckon it had come loose or was making a bad connection.Remember to disconnect battery before removing and replacing. Alasdair

The UK Government with the loudest voice (Sir Ian) AKA Sir Iain Duncan Smith is so very worried about China that they got their nickers in a twist about China and France building the new Nuclear in the UK. This government is so concerned over security and China that they do not want a Company fabricating wind turbines in a Yard in Scotland. No issues with how many Oil licences that a Chinese business has for oil and gas extraction in the North Sea because the is in partnership with Sir Jim Ratcliffe's company. (China National Offshore Oil Corporation / CNOOC) No issue with how many ports / terminals Chinese companies own (3), or business,s or allowing a huge Embassy to be built in London. This is a very very strange state of affairs in the UK. So wind turbines could spy on shipping. China has satellites............. & Oil fields and structures in the UK,s North Sea. & already many Chinese built wind turbines.

Alright, final update! A few weeks in with the Revo Stage 1 tune and what an improvement it’s been. For my application, Revo is no longer making a high/low torque map. It’s just one file with switchable maps for 95/97/99 octane. The mid range torque is impressive and coupled with the TVS DSG tune, driveability has improved drastically compared to what the car was like stock. They complement other perfectly. Fuel consumption has stayed about the same (although there’s a bit more temptation to get a little heavier footed), and temps are still spot on both in the city and on long drives. As expected, my issue has now become wheel spin all the way through first and second gear, sometimes to the start of third, so better and wider tires are in sight. Overtaking and getting up to speed have never been easier. Overall, if you’re been looking for just a little bit more of everything from your EA888.4/DQ381 combo without making any sacrifices, I can highly recommend it. As always, make sure to stay on top of your maintenance and run the correct fuel map.

This evenings task was to get out the cardboard spray booth again. This time painting parking sensors for the front sensor retrofit project. I used the punch for the bumper to cut holes in a small cardboard box and taped them in place as an easier way of masking up the sensors. The loom has also arrived but is missing the 18 pin plug and is for LHD so some wires also need extending.

I don't have a 'scope that I can use to test this part with however I don't see much movement in the value which I would likely see if the value was oscillating over time. Presumably we can't know if the superseded part was an improvement or simply a change of sub manufacturer. The eBay advert I purchased it from specifically listed my car model as well as the aforementioned OE part number so I thought it would be the correct type. For a non-safety critical part like this I was just trying to see if I could save a little money.

I replaced my 2 front tyres this month, and was also a bit surprised to find them worn down to the threads on the inside edges 😬 They were Goodyear Turanza T005 which I’ve been quite happy with, so replaced them with exactly the same and had the tracking done at the same time. The garage said they’d found the tracking “only slightly” out. The fact they were so worn down on the inside came as a bit of a surprise as I’d been checking the tread depth regularly…will keep a closer eye on the inside edges in future. Mine are mostly motorway miles and I usually have them at 2.2 bar. I might try them at 2.5 which I think is listed as the “fully loaded” pressure.

My 2009 79k miles had it since aug 24 so just over two years 11 thousand trouble free miles .changed all discs and calipers and obviously pads ,since i got the car its had some quirky electrical warning lights on dash ,if any light is lit in car sidelight boot light interior light etc etc etc then warning lights show up on dash a left hand green indicator light and oil low warning light if i indicate left the left indicator light on dash flashes but also the right , i am told its likely a short somewhere ,a bad bulb a bad earth etc etc its not caused me any problems but would love to find the fault .would a code reader be able to identifyespecially if it was a dealer version,?

I have thought that the suspension on my Octavia seems a bit harsh and, having searched the forum, it seems that I’m not alone. My car is an ‘Elegance’ with 17” rims and 225/45x17 tyres and the beam axle rear suspension. Looking at the driver’s handbook, it says that the load rating for both 205/55x16 and 225/45x17 tyres is 91. However, it looks like the majority of 17” tyres that are available have a load rating of 94, as are the ones on my car. I think this could be contributing to the problem, along with the 45 profile on our potholed roads. I’ve decided to go down a wheel size to 16”, as 16” tyres are much more available in 91 load rating, together with the 55 profile, I’m hoping for a more comfortable ride. Has anyone else tried this? Out of interest, what size wheels and tyres does the VRS have?

Try buying a genuine one from TPS, they usually deliver as well when you set up an account.
