  1. Yeah, but what if it shows up a message ' turn on guff messages'.…...
  2. You have posted numerous times about your Fabia problems but my point still stands, why would you expect Skoda or the dealer to repair your car when you are not a customer?. Just another forum member who wants to complain and belittle the dealerships because they don’t want to pay for your repairs. It’s the poor staff at the dealership I feel for when they see you walking in
  3. I read the last point there as 'if this symbol does not flash when the trailer board is hitched then one of the trailer turn signals is defective'. ie it would normally flash if bulbs are working but doesn't flash if they are not.
  4. . If you rotate the wipers on the shaft splines they'll park further up the screen, and at the end of the sweep the offending blade won't be parallel to the A pillar any more. There's quite a good chance that its tip will go beyond the edge of the screen too. One spline isn't much of a difference at the pivot point, but it translates to quite a lot 26 inches away at the blade end. .
  5. Came across this little fellow earlier and had the best sunset for a while....
  6. So, as an update, I built this: Asus B550i Motherboard Ryzen 5 5600X CPU ID Cooling se224XT Tower Cooler Adata 1TB NVME Corsair SF600 PSU MSI GTX970 GPU (Second hand one from a friend as you can't buy anything newish right now) Cooler Master NR200P Case 2 x Arctic P12 fans There's my old SSD/HDDs in there too. They'll be replaced in time. I got the 5600X in the end, not for performance now as I'll never notice that but more than it'll just last longer and as there's no more AM4 generations I'd rather what I have last as long as possible. Pleased with it though. Under non gaming loads it's silent. When playing games it's still quiet. All stays cool, it's compact, does what I need it to. Shame I couldn't get a new GPU but I'm playing older stuff right now anyway and the 970 copes fine. Eventually I'll upgrade.
  7. I've just fitted a genuine dab sharkfin and the wire to my occy. Ity was to a hatch, but estate are fairly similar. Im assuming your 2010 is a facelift. Not too hard, but I am a mechanic/technician of 18 years inc time at vw/skoda dealers so without trying to come across in the wrong way, I have an idea of what I was doing. The trim panels, for the most part, just pull off, and are held in by plastic white pegs or metal clips expect to break or bend a few clips. Some you can get away with not having, others are needed. I found the "c" post trim the most awkward(maybe the "d" post in an estate), and ideally it needs the left hand side of the boot stripping out completely to remove correctly but I managed to feed the wire by only unclipping and dis-mounting slightly. The "B" post trims, these you need to pull at the sides (next to the door seals) of the bottom end of the upper trim if that makes sense, this unhook it and will make it stick out at the sides then it unclips via 2 white pegs at the very top near the roof. This one can also be awkward to re-fit having to line up the seat belt slider. You can take power from the radio loom, but it is permanent 12v, This may not be suitable, in which case you may have to use an add a circuit in the fuse box off an ignition live and run that across the back of the dash to the radio area, then power your aerial from there. The pinout can easily be found by searching "vw/skoda quadlock pinout" on your favorite search engine image search
  8. The point is, if there is a sign with 1 (possibly even 2), when you are indicating, that means all is well, and that the trailer indicators are working! Its not an error light!

No problem with that at all just relieved if it sounds like I haven't got one of these silicone bags floating around in the reservoir
  11. Ok.. thank you for clarifying this!

Just remember to change the coolant every 5 years or 60,000 miles.
  13. Replying to Neil: Argos SanDisk Ultra Dual drive USB 3.1 Type C 32GB £13.99 Cat No. 769/9476 or 64GB Cat No. 784/5251 £22.99 It has Type C one end, which fits the car without needing the adapter, and the older USB on the other end, which plugs into my PC. It's on a sliding mechanism so the unused connection is hidden. Neat little gadget. I copied and pasted itunes to it and it works a treat.
  14. Most of that is already on the dash though .................and not ideal looking at radio for that sort of thing / information..........bit of a gimmick if you ask me.
  15. Where people deviate from the VW guidance it wont fit on. Suppose to be 4k. Go bigger and it won't fit on. Bought ones untouched are that.
  16. no problem with Transcend SDHC 32Gb Class 10
  17. We lived in France with a 1.9 TDI from 2005, with 213k. We drove to Poland in it twice (about a 2000 mile return trip) without issue. On one occasion during the 2019 heatwave, the highest temperature the car thermometer reached was 42 degrees... windows open this was fine! So if the car is well serviced age doesn't really mean much. Re-registering a UK car in France though will be much harder thanks to Brexit if you move, and has got to be done.
  18. I think it may have sold already - link PS: sorry to hijack your project log, a1. Keep it up, I'm finding it really useful.
  19. Yeah, I got the hidden screw out! Thanks for the warning though. You, sir, are bloody marvelous. Thanks for the assistance.
  20. With the screws out around the console you can lift the front up and twist to one side and it should slide out. Make sure the handbrake is up high like mine. Don’t forget the hidden screw right under the dash on the right side at the far back. It’s a very long screw and holds the whole center console in. The other way is to just release the bolts around the hand brake and lay it down to the side. I’ve never bothered doing that as I don’t think it’s needed.
  21. I have also heard mention, the security code way well be inside the stereo unit although it needs removing and careful searching inside, to find it. If its not the original and you still cannot sort it, it may be easier buying a replacement unit, along with its code or bite the bullet and have an upgrade! That SAID, IF IT IS THE ORIGINAL, MAIN DEALERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO EITHER GIVE YOU THE CODE OR AT THE VERY LEAST, RECODE IT FOR YOU AND USUALLY, IT WONT GET LOST IF THE BATTERY IS REMOVED. SURPRISED TO SEE IT HAS TBH. (SORRY FOR BIG LETTERS, COULDN'T CHANGE BACK).
  22. It sounds like your precat lambda probe may be giving inaccurate readings, first you need to check for leaks in all the vacuum lines, mainly the brake servo.
  23. It would be wise to post in the MK2 section if that is what you have. 👍🏻 10 points for bumping a 10 year old topic. 🤣
  24. It only does that if you try to change lane without indicating. Useful reminder at times.
  25. Welcome to the forum! Last information I received is that the 1788 is going to be updated to version 1803. It is available on the server for downloading to a USB-key, but the official release will be in a few weeks. Kind regards Wes
  26. My friend You are the only one following my post, even there is no such complete build Like this one on the forum regarding every aspect of the car tuning..taste is a funny thing😂😂😂😂
  27. @varaderoguydid you mean to post this in the thread about water pump failure? This thread is about silica bags...
  28. Skoda like all EU countries use water based paints - and frankly they are rubbish. I don't think you'll get much luck with trying to claim under Skoda 12 year paint warranty, but its worth a try. Does seem a bit sandblasted. Depending on how careful you are, you can mask off all the areas around the light and paintwork, lightly sand it down with a fine grit sandpaper (to get a keying surface) and then paint carefully with a rattle can.
  29. Mine is. At least, things on the left side of the car appear on the left side of the camera image if that's what you mean? Yours is also flipped. It matches what you'd see in the rear view mirror as the fencing is to the left of the car and the left in the image. If it wasn't flipped, it would be the same view as turning your head to face backwards. Namely the fence to the left of the car would be on the right on the image

Good evening everyone. In regards to Skoda Connect, it all depends on a couple of things. First, you need to pay the 42ukp (about 50eur) for the Infortainment license for your Amundsen or Columbus system. This will give Traffic Info, Weather and News Services. You will need the SOS physical button to use Care Connect which gives you tracking and live system diagnosis to Skoda HQ in CZ (another £42). Next, you will need to either get a CarStick (a GSM/4G modem for the USB socket) or set up a tethering hotspot (via Menu->Settings->WiFi) to your phone. Then you will need to add your car to Skoda Connect. It will ask for your VIN number (scan it using the camera or manually enter it), and then Skoda Connect/MySkoda will ask for a 6 digit PIN number from the MIB system (Menu->Settings->Skoda Connect->Registration). Type this in and after 5 or so mins, the car and MIB will sync up. To get Skoda Connect to give you the necessary service, you must maintain a data connection via either the CarStick or via the mobile phone data tether. Data usage is typically less than 2G of data a month.
  33. It was meant as a joke. At least I hope so
  34. Surprised at the comment that the difference in 10 years is huge. I don't think cars have moved on that much in that period as they were refined then and I think it comes down more to the model/trim level. Surprise for me is that when I drove home after test driving the XC40 is that my Yeti still felt good! And that isn't a negative for the Volvo as that is a nice drive. Only car I've owned that is a cut above the rest was my 2013 Audi A6 Avant Black Edition. That was lovely to be in and very quiet even though it was a diesel. Thing is that you soon get used to a different car as long as they come from the same market segment. Chris
  35. A sunny day can only mean one thing! Head for the beach? Nah! I took the opportunity to start cleaning the interior. What an exciting life I lead. I didn't think the interior looked too shabby, but the Vax waste water tells another story. A bit dirty, sure, but not this bad! I've still got to do the leather parts of the seats and carpet of the whole car (it's coming out to do that!), but I already managed to extract this... Minging! And I think the driver's seat is going to need at least one more attempt at getting it vaguely white.
  36. You are as well to brim it and then see what the actual consumption is over the next 100 miles or so. A bit early for a Air Filter replacement but looking to see how clean it is is worth doing. Do you want to leave it on Variable / Flexible Servicing. ? Was it a Demonstrator / Ex Management car? Surely they must have done some servicing before the sale to you. Registered November 2019 means the first Variable Service is due November 2021 even if it was in a Showroom for months. If due May 2022 then the service indicator was reset May 2020.
  37. You can use a 32GB sdhc card to update the Columbus system, I used a 64gb & it worked fine, it’s the Amundsen system that requires the Skoda card that comes with it
  38. Don't focus too much on car play if you are going for an android unit as these should run GPS etc as a standalone and bluetooth your phone in for calls. I am running a cheap £60 Chinese unit on which I have loaded CoPilot GPS, all the music I want is save to the unit internal memory, and I run Torque. Being cheaper this does not have DAB, but came with a GPS aerial and a rear parking camera that I have not needed to fit as I already have sensors. It has 1Gb of RAM and 16Gb internal storage but most now have more as standard. What I have noticed is that many are advertised as being car play which they may be, but the units OS is Windows CE so adding apps may be a problem compared to Android units. You will probably need adaptor cable and an aerial adaptor with built in booster which are readily available but add to the cost.
  39. Yes, what @just music said - and note that for the settings/user to be saved to the key it has to be the same key that unlocked it.

  41. Reading on the forum about possibility to upgrade navigation maps using USB stick (somebody mentioned that cars in Russia without data package on the eSIM are using USB to update maps) I decided to try this procedure. My initial driver was that a large roundabout near me was reconstructed (a year ago) with a tunnel underneath and maps that came with the car showed old information that was used during roundabout reconstruction. First, I tried the online update. After I installed Skoda connect app, registered and declared my user as primary, infotainment updated navigational database from 20.3 to 21.3. But unfortunately that didn't solve my problem with the map, my roundabout stayed the same with old roads around him. After driving couple of days irritated how can a year old change still not be updated in the current navigation data, I tried the USB procedure: From the https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ I downloaded 25GB of ECE 2020/2021 maps As I didn't have 32GB USB stick I used old 2.5" HDD in external enclosure with USB-C cable. This proved very useful because this enclosure has activity LED so you can see if something is happening with the disk I used MiniTool Partition wizard under windows to format my 80GB HDD with FAT32 4k cluster size as per instruction on update portal I extracted the zip file on the the drive I started the ignition, waited for infotainment to boot and plugged the USB disk to the socket closer to the gear selector The LED on the HDD started blinking, you can defensively see when disk is mounted and than infotainment started reading and copying data from the disk. This lasted about 10-20min. It is hard to say exactly how long because i was mounting fire extinguisher under the driver seat. When LED stop blinking I unplugged the disk. After the procedure was done I powered down the infotainment by long pressing the power button. After the infotainment booted again I immediately checked the navigation databases version and to my surprise it showed the exact same number 21.3. Disappointed, I turned of the car and went home. The next morning on my way to work I noticed that roads around my roundabout were showing correctly with the new tunnel underneath. Now the navigation didn't go mad when I went through the tunnel. After arriving to work I checked the navigation database and it still showed the same old version number 21.3. Now I was confused. The maps definitely changed but the version under System Information remained the same. It remains mystery what information is pushed over the OTA update and what information was copied from the USB disk. If somebody also has some know road that is missing on the map you can try this procedure and check if this helps.
  42. +3.3% not the best idea. second number isn't height mms, but percentage of width
  43. Yes, buying a new car can be more of a headache rather than a joy. Was considering a Karoq at the time but due to the 1.5 engine problems kicked it into touch. The XC40 is more expensive but by the time I'd specced up a Karoq with reasonable extras including a tow-bar it was well over £30k. and an XC40 2.0 petrol similarly specced wasn't that much more. And parked side by side it's no contest! We've had the Volvo for 2 years now and love it. It's bigger and rear visibility not as good as a Yeti but you get used to it, though I did spec. the rear camera. I think we bought at the right time as the closest petrol in now mild hybrid (and fuel consumption isn't that much better) and prices have gone up. Also they have removed some of the details from the R Design and are using them on the electric variants now. If I was changing the Volvo I don't think I'd have another one now as it would be over £40k. and I wouldn't know what else to go for. So will probably pay it off and keep it for a few years as it is just what we want. May return to the VWG at some point when forced to go all electric as there won't be their engines and gearboxes to worry about! Chris
  44. Thanks all. Picked up my first Citigo today. Drove the 2 year old 1.5tsi dsg Seat Ateca 80 miles as a part exchange. The new Citigo is a 65 plate greentech SE-L so a bit of a downgrade on paper. I haven’t driven a Citigo before so it was a bit of an unknown but the Seat was too much car for us and we needed a small one for short journeys. So, what were my first impressions driving it back on A and B roads through Kent and Surrey? I was expecting an underpowered tin box that did the job is was meant to, I wasn’t expecting something that was quite so much fun. There were a lot of national speed limit B roads and, by ‘eck, I’ve haven’t driven such a fun car in years! Keep it in fourth for the most part and third for the slower corners and it comes alive and laps up the road. Brilliant brakes, superb body control over bumpy roads, decent enough steering (though posssibly a bit light although not a problem), good gearbox if I remember the correct hand position from second to third, and all within reasonable speeds. I overtook a few vehicles without issue but have to say I’m glad of the 75bhp. Keeping the foot in when in second gear up to 5500rpm brings on a nice reserve of top end power up to around 50 I think. I did try to keep it in third on the 60mph twisty roads but it was better in fourth using the torque band, unless it was a sharper corner. Quite a spread of useable revs in a given gear which is really refreshing coming from the narrow power band of diesel turbos. Coming onto the motorway I held it in third up to the top end of the range and it got up to speed well, but fourth would have been fine. It understeered a bit on some tight bumpy corners but was predictable. I didn’t really push it too hard to see if it would bring the back end in, but it doesn’t seem like that sort of car - it’s fun enough without having to slide around. The motorway was fine, if noisier than the Ateca, but the engine sounds quite good and can still pick up speed. Some vibration at idle but minimal, more of a thrum. Might be because it’s got 35000 miles on it. Doesn’t rattle and feels really solid. 51mpg average for that journey and that reflects the style of driving. Seems easy around town, not the fastest off the line but perfectly adequate. So, there you go, it appears I quite like it.
  45. Ok. The misunderstanding is clear now. I always thought that IV (both capital) means mk4 and iV means hybrid version.

Quick update. I put a note through the letterboxes of the local residents asking if they had seen anything. I mentioned the times it could have happened and that it was a silver car. Had 2 knocks on the door. First was from one neighbour who thought, like I did, that it was my immediate neighbour who has a silver Mercedes. He did say his initial thought was it was Luke, a youngster whose car is junk but who hadn’t been around. The next knock was from Luke and his dad. It transpired that he had popped home at 1am to get some “baccy” and that he’d backed into mine on the way out. He said he checked his car when he got back to where he was staying and couldn’t see any new damage and assumed mine would be OK. He didn’t tell his parents but when they read my note, they asked and he confessed. So, he’s going to pay for repairs (£650) in cash as don’t want it going through insurance (he recently drove into/over a motorbike parked outside too) which is fine with me. He seemed contrite and apologised and I felt a little guilty as he’s young and we all dropped the ball when we were youths, but, I think (hope) he’ll learn from this. The body shop repair will be essentially invisible which is good. I’ll know it’s been repaired but it is just a car at the end of the day. I promised my wife I would remember that!
