  1. Hi fitted the water pump all the pulleys and the belt that was a sod to get on, figured out the timing turned the crank with a spanner no interference, made sure everything was clear, and went for it, it started first turn of the key and ran perfectly!!, what a relief actually brought me to tears. Could not get the bolt undone from the crank to change the oil seal, so put the engine mount back on took it to a local garage that had one of those hammer guns that undid it, so I will be changing the oil seal tomorrow and putting it back together, I know it means taking the belt off again but at least I know the engine is ok. Thanks to everyone that commented and gave advice. It's been quite a journey and an emotional one as well.
  2. It's been quite a few weeks since my last post, but fear not, I've been detailing aplenty. In fact, I've now got two Octys to stay on top of! Alongside the mk3 warrior, I also have a mk1 vRS in lemon yellow that I recently acquired. It's in need of some TLC, but it'll be a beaut when I'm done getting it up to spec (feel free to comment in my project log!). I'll tell you now, getting 19 years of grot out of a white/light grey interior is no easy task! This was probably the cleanest seat of all; A leak in the boot meant I had to take out the liner and floor out, so I figured I'd go the whole hog and take the carpet and interior out to give it a thorough clean. I can't imagine how hard it would be to do that in situ, and the underlay would become soaked from vaxing the carpet over and over again. Fabric/carpet process; Spray bottle: spread Screwfix No Nosense carpet cleaner to affected areas Work in to the fabric/carpet with a hogs hair detail brush Spray bottle: very warm water to help the cleaner flow Vax to draw up the dirt, spraying warm water as I go to help draw up as much as possible. Repeat, many times! For the worst stains, I used oxy action white stain remover (for clothing) and worked it in to the fabric/carpet as outlined above. Leather; A bit of a lazy 1-step wipe clean and condition with Turtle Wax luxe leather Here's how fabric looks during the first cleaning pass; Just one of the many filth chambers I emptied doing the interior. Disgusting! Even after several passes, the stains on the front carpet wells were still evident! A bit of a tidy up and wipe down of the floor was in order. No point putting a clean interior down on a mucky surface! And here it is, back together and looking lovely. Thanks for reading
  3. I've just rejected a MkiV SE because of the many software issues I've had with it. It's spent alomst as long at the dealers as it has on my drive at home. After having three software updates the cruise control (not adaptive) stopped working. The speed limiter still worked but I could not set CC, I could highlight it, but no mater what I, or the dealer did, could we select it. They re-installed some software and it started working again. However despite all the dealer visits I still get the well known 'Loading driver profile' lock up every now and again. I've had enough of having to pull over to the side of the road to re-boot the infotainment screen just so I can adjust the cabin temperature so i've rejected the car.
  4. It makes a big difference, initially there can be 200mA, it drops to lets say 60ish mA within a couple of minutes and then down to the basic quiescent current after 10 or 15 minutes on my vehicle, 30 minutes is a safe time to wait to be sure.
  5. Greetings to all! I have an update!!! I literally changed it all. Distribution kit, oil pump and belt. Using Motul Oil 5w30 with vag 507 specs. if it was worth it? Not at all! Stay still. Don´t waste your money. The noise continues, but far less, and goes way much sooner. I checked the old oil pump and just by turning it, it´s very noisy, especially the vacuum part. The best option it´s to live with it. I have made peace with it. Please don´t make the same mistake, likei did. My car now have 54.600 Km. Regards

As above, the radar isn’t disturbed, even if you remove the bumper. The radar isn’t mounted on the bumper, but some distance behind. I didn’t remove the bumper, just the screws at the top. No screws at the bottom only clips, but the clips at the bottom are inaccessible without removing the bumper. I wasn’t bothered about keeping the old grill surrounded, so just broke it off when I‘d removed as much as I could(top and most of the sides). The new one simply clipped in and was a good fit. I refitted the the six screws.
  7. My Octavia just updated today and it added Navigation for purchase, 390€ (ouch) I was thinking of adding it if the price wasn't too high because it's nice to have the map on the virtual cockpit but the price is a bit too steep right now considering i'm already used to android auto. But good to see they're updating the system.

  9. Done it, and you know what - The gas laws don't apply to thermometers. They do apply to liquids and gases though.

Every car ordered by the dealer has been lost from the system? maybe the issue is the dealer. im waiting for my build date but it’s only been ordered two weeks so I will be happy if I get it for the new reg in September seems a pants scenario for you tho

The current situation is bad with any brand you pick, it is strange however that they don't know how bad the delay would be.
  12. Why carburettor icing occurred on cars. Latent heat of vaporisation and pressure drop across a venturi. The same could happen with headlight washers, not so much the pressure drop but the evaporation of the volatile screenwash cooling the liquid. Any nozzle in an airstream will act as a venturi, its how a pitot static tube works and the freezing of them have been responsable for aircraft disasters. In general terms if you have a vehicle at the ambient temperature of say 5°c and you drive it through that air at high speed the friction will warm the surfaces in contact not cool them
  13. I've had way more than 75kg on my Fabias roof bars but didn't want to say that I exercised my own judgement and experience for fear of a savage attack from the safety police, but it came anyway. Hence my tongue in cheek sketch about how decisions are actually made in real life rather than 'on the spectrum' somewhere in internet wobbly world.
  14. Yes, and I'm still waiting for your explanation as to why neat screenwash that was liquid in the bottle froze on my headlamps if wind chill isn't a thing. Why carburettor icing occurred on cars. Why radiators freeze when the engine coolant is above 0c...
  15. There is a problem with the Amunsden you have to have your dealer to update it its a program that was to be turned off àt the factory but wasn't. The driving licence bit is for Myskoda app the dealer has to register your driving license to make sure its you as you can view details of your car
  16. Remember I did this on an old motor so do your own research before proceeding on the Superb.
  17. Into the air-con pollen filter box (it's behind the glove box - remove filter first) as the air is drawn past it'll carry the lube around the system.

I specified my 2014 factory build SE with sports seats. Actually slightly shaped with small bolsters for support. These seemed to be the same shape as higher spec leather models. They were excellent. First long run was nearly 700 miles towing a caravan down into France. I have back problems and spent form 2am to 6pm in the seat. No problems at all. Probably the most comfortable seats I've had. Colin
  19. Primary user requires the dealer to have set you up on their system. When they did this for me they had me delete the car from the app and they then did something to the car. They have to physically see your driving license before they can activate you.

@e-Roottoot I waved at a guy on a mountain type bike all in black who looked like you not far from Glen Clova hotel, (picture from the car park) about 2pm yesterday. Not you? We used the high road driving in and out. Lovely weather up here.
  21. Ah I think my refridgerant pressure may be low based on what you said needs more gassing it seems which might explain why they not kicking in will add some more gas and let you know the outcome
  22. The answer is to open the tailgate and use a tape measure.

In ECO mode with DSG I found yesterday going down fairly gentle long slopes in Glen Clova that the car gradually slowed down, whereas on straight flat roads it carried similar speed for a reasonable distance, quite bizarre. Barely worth all the effort, as driving intelligently with anticipation in Normal, I can get similar economy as other members have remarked that the fuel shuts off on the overrun.
  24. If you were to also flick the bonnet latch over after opening the bonnet (to make the microswitch in the latch register a closed bonnet) and before locking up and waiting 30 mins plus, you should see a proper 'asleep' reading. Not sure how much if any difference this makes. Would be interested to know if you fancy trying it? Remember to pull the bonnet release inside the cabin before trying to shut the bonnet afterwards though, otherwise it'll clang into the closed latch.
  25. The thing is to get a true resting voltage from the battery, you either need to disconnect the battery and check a good few hours after charging. Or you need to connect your meter to the battery ( and place somewhere it can be read with bonnet shut) , close the bonnet, lock the doors, and leave for a few hours. If you are checking the battery after unlocking the car opening doors etc, the fuel pump will have primed, interior lights come on and the car systems woken up, so you will not get an accurate reading.
  26. An update received today from BP Pulse.
  27. hope its the latter, cars are just a great big piece of metal and remember health is wealth
  28. I have my doubts about that. There are some plastic ones to go with plastic sumps in some recent cars, but alloy? The washers on some might be alloy. Copper washer will be fine, it's an M14 thread, so something that'll fit over that and not crash into anything on the OD. Bog standard I expect. Check for leaks 1 hour and 1 day after fitting/torquing and you'll be fine.
  29. Hi Roottoot. I am that man! Wimmy was my previous forum name, well before we bought our iV, because the registration form would not accept my chosen name. Now we have the iV I'm registered as Jim
  30. just to confirm I've identified and correctly placed the final 2x missing wires, the black/white currently in t16a pin 5 goes to pin 7 on the new 14pin connector, and the blue/purple which is originally on t16a pin 11 goes to pin 14 on the new 14pin connector (for automatic/dsg to sense if the lever is in 'Park') all that's left to complete the heated wheel retrofit now is to run 1mm red/black cable for live from t14 pin 1 to 10a fuse number 4 on holder c, and follow the brown white earth from pin 4 on t14g to find where it turns from 0.5mm into brown and black 1.0mm cable - this is where I should join my new 1.0mm brown and white earth from t14 pin 8 Then I test whether the existing climatronic module activates the heated wheel by turning on drivers' heated seat, or whether you actually need the version of climatronic control that has a picture of a steering wheel next to the drivers seat on drivers heated seat button
  31. They have a trained technician but not the experience ….. as EV’s be become more popular dealerships will have to change their skill set …. They are positive so will sort out the problem.

No problems. Further thought has told me to say that a used replacement gearbox may not have come from an Octavia, or from a Skoda at all. Don't stress that; just match the code. Also, ELSAwin is a website, but an hour's paid access is enough to get all the manuals for one car.
  33. My facelift 1.5 SEL coasts and cylinder deactivation at the same time.
  34. I had this on our (BMW) mini, it was the suspension bottom ball joint. I don’t know whether it might be the same on a Skoda (VW) but on the mini the bottom ball joint socket is some kind of hard nylon. The boot had perished and split letting in water and grime and the ball joint was partially seized, hence the creaking noise. New ball joint fixed it. Anyway, worth having a close look at the suspension ball joint boots.

The seating position is widely adjustable in the Yeti and you can struggle at first to get that sweet spot. In my view lumbar support is a must, we've had two Yeti's without and one with, it makes a big difference.
  39. 1 point
@Zapperthesnapper If looking at 2014/15 AWD Yeti the Haldex should have been serviced for the 2nd time by now, so if full Main Dealer Service History or Full Service History check for Invoices or a record on the Skoda Service System that these were done.
  40. Yes - all this is good. Looks like that the MK4 Scout's won't be arriving anytime soon in the UK, so it is worth keeping our existing MK3 Scout's going for as long as possible. Good luck to @Nickj633
  41. If the car is only going to be used for trips to school then i’d suggest just getting a cheap run around. I do very little miles in my diesel but when I do drive it’s mostly on long runs. I’ve had the regen happen several times in my ownership but never the light on the dash as most times if I notice it’s doing a regen i’ll then do a pointless trip on the motorway until I notice it goes into 6th gear again (thanks EU) To specifically answer your question i’ve done around 2-3k a year in my car in the last 4 years and no problem at all
  42. I would not have thought the shocks would affect lean in corners much.

The subwoofer! I'm not a fan of active subs that take up space, but these are very good and not the hardest to have installed: https://www.audison.eu/products/apbx-10-as2/ But for me, non of the system is up to a good listening quality, many disagree but thems the difference in people... You wouldn't need to go to the level of my system to get really good quality sounds.

We ordered our Style Combi iV late March and took delivery last saturday. The car feels great in every aspect. We're especially happy that we chose beige Suedia interior - it looks and feels oh-so-classy

Oof! That's a nasty whack someone's given your car. My kid opened my wife's door on our neighbour's car and put a tiny ding in it. I went straight round and rang their doorbell to own up to it and apologise. I'd rather take the insurance hit than be on bad terms with my neighbours, TBH. As it happens, they were lovely about it and didn't GAF, so all's well that ends well. I left the option open for them to change their mind and bung it through the insurance if it turned out that it later bothered them, which seemed like the reasonable thing to do. To put something like the dent on your car then hit and run is a pretty scummy thing to do.
  46. Picked up new SE model last night. Set up android auto using usb. When I got in the car this morning my suprise when it offered me android auto phone still in my pocket. Wireless working no issues.
