  1. Now guess why those of us who can only afford 1 car are not convinced by EVs.
  2. View from the top of Wainright No. 128 IIlgill Head. Probably would have been a bit more scenic if not for the clouds.
  3. Hi Beki, given the state of the coolant level after the service, I would not trust them to have checked the tyre pressures. If the perceived poor ride is not due to incorrect pressures, I don't think there is much that you realistically can do to improve - 16 inch, 55 profile is about as good as you can get without major suspension changes.
  4. So I just did. With the driver's door open, the Lock command is ignored, either if given through the KESSY sensor or keyfob button.
  5. Very good Ryan. I think they just finish off the look nicely.
  6. I wouldn’t buy a Vauxhall. No offence to anyone.
  7. You could buy a Panasonic DVD player for £25 at Currys. They have them in stock and thy play CDs

Finally. I need to pick up my car on Wednesday. It should have arrived in July, but I think it's not the worst scenario to have only 3 months of delay...
  9. @DieselMonte will be chuffed to know that I bit the bullet and bought a set of mud flaps for the front and back. I just wrestled them onto the car. Word of warning for anyone about to attempt this, take the rear wheels off! I bought OEM from a seller on eBay who is doing them for £45 for the lot. The pictures aren't stellar but I was drowning in WD40 as was my phone as a result.
  10. There's park&ride at Ingliston and at Hermiston (south side though).
  11. And you think that any other maker is better unless you're buying a spec that is already delivered!?
  12. Those in Scotland who can afford an EV should be able to hire at affordable cost an ICE, actually they can in much of Scotland, or in populated areas, or if they can not afford an EV they should easily be able to leave their ICE and collect an EV to use maybe locally or in built up areas in Scotland from the thousands paid for by Tax Payers that are sitting unused by Local Authorities. Covid has caused a problem obviously for where there are car clubs and cars to hire available. There is another charger on CPS another mile on the A77 at Turnberry, it still does not show on ZapMap or Plugshare. It was switched on and powered up for weeks yet never activated, This Dowhill Farm Charger is 25 pence a kWh. Hicups months later still with SWARCO, the Vid showing the App is what you can get even with good reception on your phone.
  13. Nice to get some balance from an ev adopter who isn't in full-time propaganda mode. 🙂 There are a few around who are so evangelical and preachy that they probably put more people off than they enthuse. 4/5 not going back is the way the data looks to me though, not surprised from California where air quality is such a big problem.
  14. Me too, I'm like an expectant father at MOT time. I can't settle till it's done & I know what I'm up against. Fingers crossed. 👍

Forget the dyno, do a timed 0-60 run or better still 30-70 in top gear if the figures are available. Back in the days when before Youtube and irritating influencers with stupid names like Shmee the road tests in Autocar or Motor magazines would give you the full range of performance figures, economy, dimensions, turning circle etc etc etc, nowadays all people seem to worry about is connectivity with their smartphone.
  16. I was told “it should be back next week”. My actual hope is that I get the car this side of Christmas, We have already missed a few key events that having a new family SUV would have been useful for. The Skoda factory is apparently shutdown for one more week to try and work through the backlog, so I am ever hopeful.
  17. If the car was advertised and sold as having cruise control, and you bought it with the expectation that cruise control was going to make it easier for you to drive. I would reject the car and start searching again. Weather or not cruise control can or can't be retrofitted is not the point. The two main questions are why have they misrepresented the level of spec and sold you an unsuitable car and secondly why should you be expected to fund any retrofit. You require a car that suits your needs.
  18. That's quite harsh. I can think of several reasons why regular updates are useful. 1. You may be selling your existing car and need to get an idea of when you are able to. 2. You may be planning a holiday that requires the new car 3. You may be deciding to cancel if the car is not here by X date Etc etc I find myself in a fortunate position that I don't have to sell my car until the new one arrives. There are others who are in a different position. Even so, it's "nice" to be kept updated about the status of my order. Not essential, but nice.
  19. Have a look at this - Unfortunately if you want to disconnect to install a replacement actuator properly you do need to remove trim in the boot to gain access to the connector. If you want a quick bodge then easiest to access the wiring from outside (via filler aperture) and cut the wire from the old actuator and then splice the wiring on new actuator to it using solder and glue lined heatshrink tubing or glue filled solder splices e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/CAMWAY-Adhesive-Connector-Terminals-Connectors/dp/B07R5YM2QN. The latter work very well but from my own experience you do need a decent variable temperature heat gun to get the solder to melt without damaging the outer tubing. In my own case I never bothered, my locking fuel cap has now permanently failed unlocked and I'm happy the risk of anyone trying to siphon fuel or maliciously poison tank content is negligible.
  20. Definately reset the linkages first, its an easy job to do and makes a difference. This is the video I used when I did mine the other day. Probably have to remove the battery and airbox like I had to, not difficult just a bit time consuming.
  21. we had a 1.9Tdi Comfort from new and did about 130k miles in it before we sold it. The subsequent owner then put another 50k miles or so on it before finally started to give up the ghost.
  22. I do! Doh, I missed it off! Hey Mike. I don't use a drying aid, but I'm fortunate to live in a soft water area. If I still lived in Suffolk, I definitely would do! Spotting and streaking was a nightmare, there, especially in summer. You could barely do a full panel of contact wash without having to jet blast it and dry before moving on. Cheers
  23. Skoda Favorit - production line, road test, crash test.
  24. They're so much snake oil in road cars, but well worth using in competition.
  25. This needs to be scanned. I suspect this maybe a dead battery showing itself up. The whining noise could be the belt tensioners on the cambelt going south or they are overly tightened. Anyway, its back to the dealer.
  26. Parts dispatched....I hope you get your LED indicators fixed.
  27. Good idea to sell the car if you're not using it enough and now, or before the bubble bursts which might not be for a while yet. For seat comfort have you sat in the front passenger seat for a journey of reasonable length as that should give you some idea of seat comfort for you. Seat comfort can be a personal thing, generally being short I dislike German car seating. Your Fabia seat sounds like it might have had more stress than normal, big person, mobility issues, deliveries driver. If the scuffy won't cause rusting then why bother until you really need to. My wife's previous car had a long rear panel that somebody dented and disappeared, she put up with it for 18 months until the servicing garage gave her a good quote on the repair (they must have need work at the time). I speculated that within two weeks the repair would have a ding from the public car park at her work, not even 24hours, she was so annoyed. If the car has only you and not a lot of heavy work stuff to carry too you should find the performance reasonable, handling won't be up to S3 but the use of speed and acceleration tends to be very restricted nowadays anyway. If you want more mpg pump the tyres up to 35psi as that noticeably reduces rolling resistance you lose a little on the handling but that can put more fun back into actually driving the car, different perhaps to the heavily(?) assisted S3. Course smaller wheels with narrower tyres would be more practical too but that's not the fashion.
  28. Was going to suggest something like a Vitara but the towing limit is 1200kg... What about a Sportage or Tucson? They would fit the bill in terms of capacity and I had a Sportage as a hire car not long back - absolutely full of toys and very comfortable and well built but shorter than the Superb. As an aside we went from a 4x4 Octavia II to a Kodiaq and my wife has no issues with the Kodiaq but did think the Superb too big...
  29. Here's the link by the way. https://www.carscoops.com/2021/10/skoda-fabia-combi-reportedly-canceled-due-to-strict-emission-regulations/
  30. Yeah - currently scouring Ebay for options but it may be that a new one goes on the Christmas List... Good point and reminder on the DVD player though! I do have one in the lounge already but it would need a looooonnnng cable as it's on the other side of the room but also have a Tesco's basic DVD player in the kid's room that I could temporarily re-purpose until something crops up!

It was a factory order using website configurator.
  32. There is a company that will send a potato (text a potato) to your chosen 'friend'. All very tasteful of course https://www.textapotato.com/potatoes-1
  33. Ah, I see you are a man who likes his 'Rock'
  34. Oh no, some additional online features aren't going to work for 4 whole days.
  35. Is there any way to keep the individual setting on the DCC? After every start I have to go into the dopey unit to select individual. My god the new Columbus is slow, a Pye valve radio from the 60s is faster to start up.
  36. NP. Neither do I, but this lets us subvert the idea behind the Ultra LEZ zone...

The 1.5TSI engines are generally good machines. Quite pokey. Definitely take on @roottoot advice - when was the car last serviced? Try new Air Filter and spark plugs and run on decent fuel. The car BTW knows if it is running on crappy fuel and it will adjust the performance (by retarding the ignition). I suggest that you get a service done first, then you can take the car back to Mr Dyno and see what happens then.

Unless the dyno operator correctly applies the expected transmission loss figures specific to the car then what will be measured is WHEEL bhp/Nm plus a guessed correction for transmission losses. Manufacturers specify FLYWHEEL bhp/Nm so unless the transmission loss figure is correct the numbers seen on a dyno will be wrong. A decent dyno operator will firstly do a run powered by the dyno to measure the actual transmission losses on that specific vehicle and then apply them to run(s) powered by the vehicle - this data should be shown on any graphs you have received.
  39. Brilliant news. You can sleep easier at night now.
  40. its been a bad week... Sunday i was up and gone to work for a 12hr site shift at 615am, got home at 930om. mon to thurs i was on site at 11am until 800pm every day, not home until 930pm, then eat, and sort out the house stuff, bed and up in the morning to face the breakfast and school prep then go to work again. friday i got home early enough to have dinner with swmbo and the boys, for the first time in a week. weather yesterday morning was terrible, and we all had a lie in until 815am! today, i couldnt sleep last night.. i think the fact we moved spud jr into a junior bed from his cot for the first time had me on high alert for either a thump or him waking up and goinplaging with his toys m the middle of the night.. neither happened, he slept fine. so i was knackered this morning, and slept after the alarm went off. typically its a smashing morning, would have been a great dawn up the hills 🤦‍♂️
  41. Hey all I've changed up my routine a little, based on some tips I've picked up (from random YouTube vids and the Detailing Central group on Facebook). Process (new in BOLD, removed stage strike out) Jet wash alloys, wheel arches and cills Spray alloys with AutoGlym Custom Wheel Cleaner & contact clean with Gyeon wheel brush Jet wash to rinse wheels Jet wash to loosen dirt up on body Snow foam (AD purple velvet) Jet wash rinse 2 bucket method wash (Sonax gloss - still using this and liking it. Exceptional value) Alloy clean (Gtechniq W6 Iron & General Fallout Remover then a general wash with the remaining Sonax shampoo) Dry (my trusty 10 year old woolly mammoth towel. Still going strong) Tyre dressing (AutoGlym Tyre Gel). Here's "Warrior" later on that evening, shining even on a dull day. I'm still loving the Vega alloys, they really suit this car and colour I think. Cheers

I would expect it to be in the Driver's Handbook. I put up a link previously for some quirky but very useful and informative videos, including opening the boot from inside. - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHH-B9onXpOqSbufztgrEsE0U-QjwooWU HTH.
  43. So, shoud I go back to the garage to check with them?
  44. I bought dynamic ones off ebay, loads of videos on YouTube to guide you, simple job
  45. Yep, these is definitely a job I will do. At the moment I'm just trying to get the vag com codes below treble figures 😂
  46. As mentioned near the start, we also plant UK trees. In theory we can go and look at them... maybe use google images to see how it's going We've got 7(trees) so far, Who -> link -> what3words location @BJB540-> https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=6080475053e8e226f71f21eb -> https://what3words.com/spared.regal.doctors @Rustynuts-> https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=60a7d44a0c5596478194a5b1 -> https://what3words.com/storage.brush.inventors @Gaz-> https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=60d0b2cd0cb1ce427218a024 -> https://what3words.com/roofed.shampoos.prowling @FUBAR-> https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=60f83fc8cfbe27191bf1ed25 -> https://what3words.com/adapt.retaliate.firepower @MikeTheThinker-> https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=61211e4b8774f7eb663e0de7 -> https://what3words.com/distract.somewhere.remove @varaderoguy-> https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=6149fcc5a5e9e4e00ee6e530 -> https://what3words.com/distract.somewhere.remove 'fraggles' -> https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=617189c50888826a11b8ba20 -> https://what3words.com/foster.flippers.slogged @AnnoyingPentium https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=61c203560bf34f7ecd599690 -> https://what3words.com/harmonica.replenish.unrealistic @Auric Goldfinger https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/499434-auric-andy-goldfinger/?do=findComment&comment=5619560 I'm going to 'award' these trees to the planters thus far... although my plan was tripped up by one by @AnnoyingPentium Your's will be next Now of course I'm likely to have missed a few, but these I can reconcile. If you have supported, let me know which ones, and I'll add you to the UK tree list
  47. Whilst I agree with you, I can see that it makes some people feel a little more warm and fuzzy and like they're getting acceptable service from the dealer - haven't been forgotten, if you like.
