  1. Lovely autumnal colours today..........
  2. Quick update👌🏻 1 amplifier to go. Than starting all plexiglass work. And speakers replacement.
  3. What’s not to like about the Lake District. Cleared up later :)
  4. Thanks for the input! Got the full kit fitted and everything is back to normal.
  5. Many thanks for the help guys. Got the full kit fitted last week and everything is back to normal . The Skoda Australia people still insisted to the VW service guy doing the job that the problem couldn't be the timing chain because my engine was built after June 2011! Surprise surprise, the kit was fitted and now the car doesn't sound like a tractor, rpm's are even, and the engine is nice and quiet. Sweet relief.
  6. I would not modify or alter the car whilst in the warranty period.

Just as an fyi … for anyone else - the key steps. Not the only way, but worked for me. I used 3 special tools 7mm Allen key socket 14mm XZN triple square socket OBDII Code Reader Connect up battery charger to battery (important step) Release EPB Retract EPB with code reader Jack car wheel up high (wheel about 10” off floor) Remove wheel Remove plastic end plugs from Calliper pins Unscrew & Calliper pins Push piston back fully by levering with a screwdriver between pads & disc. (No need for a retractor tool … simply push fully back) Lift off calliper and temporary tie up with cable tie to avoid straining brake line. Remove brake shoes Remove the 2 x Calliper fixing bolts ( technically they are screws) this was hardest part, I applied heat with a micro gas burner to heat up heads, in the hope it softened thread lock. Take out the Torx screw that holds on disc. Screw in 1 x wheel screw … to avoid disc dropping out when it becomes free I applied dismantling fluid around where disc fits on central hub … then some suitable wallops with a hammer to remove I cleaned area up with brake cleaner, removed any corrosion on hub face, and applied very thin coating of ceramic grease (used a brush to ensure very thin), also applied to ‘ears’’ on new brake pads, and the rear of pad where piston makes contact. Also sprayed rubber boot of piston with silicone spray. Cleaned new disc faces with brake cleaner … and fitted When fitting new Calliper frame bolts, I added Blue thread lock to the first 25mm. Redid all screws to correct torque. Release EPB with code reader Light short strokes on foot brake to reset pads. road test. check code reader for any alarms.

OK, so it was worth waiting for.
  9. @BlackEdDSG - Well, you could repaint it with genuine Lockheed "ironball" paint like on the SR-71...

Bit of Dynamat in the boot.
  11. Yes, I had the new kit fitted to an old style 2011 CBZB Octavia engine by my Skoda dealer. You need to fit new top and bottom sprockets as the chain design and width is different, also the chain guides and hydaulic tensioner must be changed. All included in the correct kit. https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/03f198158b-timing-set-1-2tsi-63kw-77kw-25113.html Note the warning given.... Timing set for cars with 1.2TSI 63kW/77kW (CBZA, CBZB) engines, set includes: timing chain, guide and slide rail, 2x timing wheels, chain tensioner and mounting accessories (screws + washers) newer version. For vehicles manufactured before 10/2011, it is necessary to replace all components contained in the set!
  12. And one more. Bit of a challenge to get in a position where I could take this shot!

Same off me congrats, god only know when I will get mine.

Because it is a 2.0 it will not be a 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG as pointed out in the 2nd post, that means it will be a wet clutch DSG.
  15. I believe that a chip/box that has been removed can still be detected in the event of a warranty claim. The ECU sets a flag when any parameters are operating outside of "normal" values and that can be detected on a dealer scan should the need ever arise. So maybe don't worry about the warranty and just go for the one you want.
  16. Certainly do. To the uninitiated it's pronounced Mil-guy rather than Miln-gav-ay😀
  17. I was going to do the V6 brake upgrade but decided against it due to reading about big brake conversions and the impact of unsprung weight, I went for Rotor drilled and grooved discs and Black Diamond Predator pads all round. The difference was night and day compared to the O.E set up

That's the same versions that I posted last week in the km/h mph thread. My SEL 1st Ed went from no suffix to F and 1810.

https://www.theskodashop.co.uk/products/skoda-front-wiper-blade-set-aero-fabia-08-5j2998001 I personally find that genuine wipers whatever manufacturer always seem to work best.
  20. I believe it is not possible to retain the last selected change in driving mode, it reverts back each time you switch the ignition off. I don’t use ‘Sync but I was under the impression that the setting remained until manually altered.
  21. A remap offers a much nicer drive that is well within the realms of stock wheels/tyres/brakes. It's the improvement in drivability that makes it better. Peak figures are not the game. A chip will manipulate the signals to get more power but the increase across the rev range will be not that much more than stock and could even make it worse to drive. As for warranty. This has been discussed so much that I'll just say one thing. A dealer will still be able to tell if a box has been on the car.

Yep! I went for Canton, DCC, winter pack, reverse camera and travel assist. My order went on the system Jan 8th. I got the car on 12th of November, so pretty much 11 months exactly lol.
  23. I lowered my 2.0tdi on a beam backend. Was a good improvement if you can cope with the added stiffness. I also had upgraded shocks which added to the stiffness but increased the control massively. Not a cheap route though. Springs only is much better solution for those on a budget. Could be worth waiting till you need to change a shock or 2. Remap on the 2.0tdi is much much better than a chip. Search the forum for details.
  24. Mesmerising, I had already watched another one of his on a 1.6 TDi Octavia I think which gave me the confidence to tackle the clutch/DMF on my 6 speed 4x4 gearbox. It was also after watching him that I invested in a 1/2" drive Bosch cordless impact wrench although unfortunately it did not arrive in time for the clutch job. I used to be as confident and as competent as him removing FWD and RWD gearboxes on my back, the workshop attached to the house I have just bought will have a 2 post vehicle lift, I think that I have earned it. I borrowed a friends workshop with a pit to do my clutch and asked an equally competent (in his day) friend to be my wing man for the job, poor eyesight and general aged incompetence meant I valued the help and looking over my shoulder.
  25. Accessing the fault light to obscure it is one possibility... Did the seller have an explanation about how that situation was resolved?
  26. 1 point
The genuine ones would only be something like Bosch anyway. Just get a set of Bosch blades from Halfords. Saying that I've never had a problem with halfords own brand ones.
  27. That car did not move in those 10 days according to the mileage so perhaps that was the time to arrange rectifying the faults
  28. A wander around an area I've not been to, an old quarry and plenty of lumpy singletrack and a minor off 🙄 Slow speed and thankfully the prickly stuff has died off 😄
  29. Yep. I agree with you that they look quite smart once fitted, although I initially bought them to combat the steaming up issue. Improving the look of the car is a bonus! 😄
  30. If the unpaired them, without asking you, they effectively took a car in with 3 working keys, and returned it with one working key. I would expect them to sort it, free of charge, because it is something they have chosen to do. First step is to phone service department and find out what they have done (and don’t accept being fobbed off by a receptionist who doesn’t want to look at job sheet)
  31. No i have no idea. And afaik the Scala does not have SFD protection so maybe it is a dealer only thing. Maybe someone with software knowlegde will shed some light. You could go on another forum like for example obdeleven forum where they unlock options with that dongle. Could be a cheaper alternative if it is possible with it. Good luck.
  32. I am fairly new to the Skoda. Have predominantly run Land Rover for the last 30 years but have gradually fallen out of love with the brand. I purchased a Kodiaq 190 DSG SE L with a few extra bits . Very please so far and the vehicle is capable of far more than I had originally imagined, just ground clearance issues but with the correct tyres it performs extremely well. Very easy to work on. I have an immediate project in mind which I will post in the relevant section.
  33. Yes thanks. not concentrating I was assuming wrong way round (original ET46, replacement ET51). Either way that combination wouldn't have been a problem. ET35 likely a different story. Tks

I use Android Auto with the HUD and it works fine. There was a bug with roundabout directions initially but that's subsequently been fixed.
  35. Your 2018 infotainment unit looks like a "Swing". The specification shown in the user guide for build 07-2018 https://ws.skoda-auto.com/OwnersManualService/Data/en/Fabia_NJ/07-2018/Manual/Fabia/A06_Fabia_OwnersManual.pdf as far as I can see it doesn't even mention Android auto in the Swing section, on page 112, it only shows SmartLink+ menu settings › In the main SmartLink menu, tap on function surface  . ■Activate data transfer for ŠKODA apps- Activate/deactivate data transfer for ŠKODA applications ■MirrorLink® - Settings of the system MirrorLink® ■Connect automatically via Bluetooth - Activate/deactivate the option of pairing and connecting the external device via Bluetooth® ■Allow MirrorLink® notification to be shown - Activate/deactivate the display of Mirror link® application messages on the Infotainment screen It might be worth asking @pab567 (maybe in the Bolero update thread) if he knows anything about the various Swing options - what updates if any are possible. For instance the Swing in my 2017 Rapid has no Smartlink options at all. Regards, John H

I only have an iPhone so can't help with AA, but CarPlay certainly *can* use the HUD. I say can, as only seen Apple Maps being able to use it so far. Google Maps on iPhone doesn't give HUD, neither does ABRP (though I have raised a request with them). I've heard Waze can also do HUD, but haven't tried it yet, will let you know when I get a chance. Any other apps you want me to try? Should also be noted, it doesn't appear the augmented reality bit will work with with CP or AA. I think Skoda will need to add some integration there to take details from AA/CP and use them to drive the chevrons.
  37. Headliner is out. Part of the plan to make sure my water leak is fixed. Carpets out next. Also it’s starting to sag in the back so I want to get it refurbished and re-covered. These holes in the body are there to accommodate rivets in the sunroof mechanism but in heavy rain they let water in. This foam tape works as an effective gasket and no more leaks! It can’t be the source of the damp carpet so work is ongoing on that.
  38. This article helped me to confirm the issue that I have in the 2012 Octavia 1.2 TSI - seemed to be Oil leak near the "out" pipe from the intercooler (Intercooler Charge Pipe) and smell in the cabin when switched on AC / heating. Now fixed it with Engine block breather Valve and Grommet. Supporting video in YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeExxTRZLjo Thank you very much.
  39. I should have put depending on the approach to the climb, I was more meaning that some people think you can't change gear other than to the very next gear - but the displays give instructions in the modern Fabia I notice, never shown 2nd to 5th though.
  40. @conniebell - Actually, @Wino has raised a very important point. Is your car a PD? If so it will have a badge TDi on the boot.
  41. I'm pretty sure that means either one of the two in front of the gear lever and NOT the one that might be fitted beside the rear view mirror. I can plug my music into either of the gear lever sockets and both will read it. I have wondered whether I have my infotainment settings as they should be, but I can't think or see what I'd change for the unit to read the files. It would appear that the same files we've downloaded for our Skodas will work in a VW as well, so I'm keen to try my download in my wifes Golf. Trouble is, she's not well so she isn't driving it and I'm not driving her car cos I want to get mine sorted out first as my mapping is older than hers. I find it difficult to comprehend that Skoda have got it so wrong and there's nobody that the man in the street i.e. me, can ask to get a definitive answer about how to do it. I saw earlier that you contributed to another thread on this subject in the Kodiaq section. There are currently 6 pages of posts there and still no definitive answer !! Assuming that Covid doesn't throw us a curved ball, we've booked to drive to France next May - I think I'll take my old Garmin which I've just updated with no bother at all 👍.

Couldn't see a thread of pictures, apologies if I've overlooked it. Here's our Enyaq that we collected today.
  43. My Mrs's 67 plate fabia has both we never paid for also when i got my 2015 octavia new it didnt have it but they released a software update which enabled it. guess it should work might need a software update.
  44. As I've mentioned elsewhere the defective software in these cars will end up in a fatality.
  45. His new bike nearly ready to roll, pedals going on later, on charge then a quick run around the local park to see what's what...
  46. heres mine getting after getting a proper detail and treatment..off course its ****ing down now as I drive it home
  47. iphone shots at the moment, busy on a project in Scotland. Some sunsets taken from the property.
  48. Yes, I believe the kit still fits pre-vin split engines. It's not clear why VAG did this but it could be as simple as discouraging dealers from working on life-expired vehicles. If the engine code is the same then the parts will fit, someone on here did this job recently with a pre-split car and everything fitted just fine, the tensioner components have indeed been modified to improve longevity.
  49. Here is a thread from maybe the same age of engine, it shows pictures of original and the version of parts this guy used to sort things out, maybe give you some extra info on this repair/upgrade. 1.2TSI timing chain change on the driveway.. | SEATCUPRA.NET There was also, I seem to remember someone from Italy that did an upgrade to the later/final "set of chain drive bits" on the same age engine in a Polo, rather than just using what VW Group chose to provide for a "refresh".
