  1. A couple from the Legend Fires North West Stages today in Beacon Fell Country Park.
  2. This guy seemed to want to show me his (very impressive) wings!!
  3. Mine is the comfort.
  4. There is a lot spouted about buses being environmentally friendly but when I last looked at pollution and emissions info you'd need over 20 people on a bus for it to be better than those same individuals each using their own car...
  5. Interestingly the most polluted location in Sheffield is the train station and specifically the pedestrian bridge over the tracks... The reason being the idling diesel locos spewing out black exhaust fumes and particulates.
  6. Picked up my last couple of bits this morning, fitted the rad pack up and ran the wiring to where it needs to go. Unfortunately my driveshaft has gone awol with parcelforce so waiting to see what happens hopefully it will arrive next week. anyway pics of the rad
  7. That's because the Ibiza was so brutally ugly.
  8. Here is wisdom. I gave up on my 16V conversion when I changed the clutch and realised it will barely hold the 8V engine, it's tiny and there's no physical room in the low-profile bell housing for a larger one, these kinds of packaging restraints are what happens when you fit the engine and gearbox from a wider Golf platform into the narrower Polo platform, you can't make the crankshaft or the layshafts shorter so you have to fit a tiny clutch and flywheel between them. I may be able to have a stronger competition clutch made for the tiny flywheel but that would probably cost at least a thousand pounds and spending that much money is simply unrealistic. In the meantime my 2.0 is in daily use and the 16V engine is still on the pallet behind the shed. Nothing ventured, nothing lost.
  9. Detailed.. And a change in direction on alloys.
  10. Comfort and up have them. As well as painted mirrors.
  11. For sure the ugly sister ...!!👍 Last project nearly had us all demented - A friends Porsche 924 with a Passat B5 130 TDi and 6 speed box. This all looked really simple on paper, I mean "Sure isnt a 924 transaxle just an extended Passat..? " So everything had to change - even the suspensions had to go 5 stud 924S. Every part of that bloody car was a nightmare. I was involved in the loom to get it all going. Even hid the clocks in the glovebox so the engine would run. The keybarrel was an absolute horlicks. Everything had to be changed or shoehorned to fit. I suggested at the time to use the complete Passat body control module to run all the ancillaries and lights and ditch the 40 year old 924 loom but that was rejected in favor of using only the engine loom from the Passat mated to the 924 loom. The car ran ok but with all good classics the gremlin's were at play. I just wasn't that happy at the time with the outcome but the others were all excited ..! The only instrument you had was the mechanical speedo and the Passat clocks were like the Blackpool Illuminations ! If I would have been left more time I would have got all that sorted properly. But it wasn't to be. That car did run and drive but I had enough of it - Too many cooks involved - Ended up half cooked - Last I heard of this car was 15 years ago. The thought of a project like that now gives me the shivers...! @ScriciMM we aren't bitter nor killjoys but we have all been there with projects over the years and fair enough some did work well but think about it before diving in to the unknown !! What ever happened to the 1.2 Turbo Fabia ??
  12. Scotland's highest are near the bus depots or the biggest bus gathering areas and a few streets with high buildings, narrow roads and bus stops and lots of gridlocked traffic. Maybe even with bus lanes. Similar roads for gridlock traffic but without being on bus routes seem not to feature on the high pollution lists. https://news.stv.tv/scotland/campaign-group-reveals-scotlands-most-polluted-streets https://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-52485383
  13. It's so difficult trying stop these kids from turning a perfectly serviceable vehicle into an ornament complete with its own roof garden and interior water feature. If you drive as much as I do you see these tragic objects everywhere, crying out for Car SOS to intervene or for the scrap man to just come and drag it away.
  14. Cracking moon this evening
  15. Wanderer, I think you might have sorted me mate! I activated and went into Developer mode and there is an option to select USB configuration and in that it was set to CHARGE ONLY. There is media transfer protocol there so I'll try that tomorow. Hopefully that does the trick. Marky thanks for your input too mate. The options are there but just greyed out. Legends, I'll let ye know tomorrow if it works!
  16. Same idea as starter solenoid checks. Most meters can't measure the current through the cable, but what is more important is final voltage to starter which is battery voltage ( under load minus the drop on the solenoid). Very similar to what happens to old car batteries. Internal resistance limits cranking current and hence voltage to starter in winter.
  17. On the meter front- check out both Aldi & Lidl for them. Usually circa £10 and as I'm more used to expensive Fluke ones, I'm impressed. Basic, but good enough for most jobs. On the topic of checking connections for continuity, may I suggest checking the voltage drop over connections when drawing a bit of power. e.g. at start up . A connection may show up as .01 ohms, but when drawing a bit of current that could result in a drop of 1 volt to a sensitive part when the current is that taken by a starter motor. It's another way using a cheap meter that is unable to check low resistance values/ high currents to detect bad connections using Ohms law as a partially bad connection will create a voltage drop on the connection.
  18. Finally got around to removing these dead critters from the rear inner lights, and put in some foam inserts to stop them from going back in.
  19. Definitely check the USB settings menu on your phone and a decent quality cable, Anker on Amazon is good, as is Amazon's own brand. As it's an Android device, have a look in tethering settings, another way to access USB settings is to activate developer mode in settings. To activate it. Settings ➡️ About phone ➡️ Software Information ➡️ Build Number. Tap Build Number between 5-7 times, if you have done it correctly the phone will show a small dialogue box, saying Developer Mode is active. So now when you go into the settings menu right down at the bottom you'll find Developer options. In there, there are a couple of USB options, only tinker with settings in here if you know what you're doing. 😉
  20. I would be cautious putting the seat covers through the washing machine, I did that and it totally ruined mine, the thin layer of foam that is embedded in the seat cover disintegrated and the seat covers came out of the machine nice and clean but all lumpy were some of the foam had been washed away and some had survived. They were so bad I ended up scrapping them and buying some Mk2 VRS seats as I could not live with how they looked!

I finally took delivery if my SE Drive on Wednesday. Went out for a proper drive today and am very pleased. It feels like a nice upgrade from our Mk.III Octavia. The family love it too, which is good!
  22. Apparently so as we know having read this thread and the linked one.
  23. Well, the superb does...
  24. Looking forward to doing that one. Any chance of getting it to remember individual settings from the DCC?
  25. It was done in Poland, ~ 1400 GBP. The whole car was done basically, whole interior with the roof, boot, doors etc, also wheel arches inside/outside, bonnet and under the windshield. It made quite a difference, the biggest one is that you really cannot hear much now from the road/tires.
  26. Most connector housings will have their part number somewhere on them, albeit often in tiny characters.
  27. Aye, I've seen a couple of Classics with the bump strip so I don't know if it was an option from the dealers as it doesn't show up on my 05/06 brochure.
  28. Didn't the poster of that make a post that it was still running? I'm not too sure though.
  29. Have you switched off 'Autohold'? If so switch it back on and see what happens with the parking brake. Here the briskoda community have gone on to prove me wrong by showing that the e-brake / parking brake will not automatically apply if Autohold has been switched off. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/502666-electric-parking-brake
  30. I have PSBushings ones, almost every bush they do aside from the rear beam bush (which will be done soon). They're cheap and do the job well. If you do the wishbone bushes you'll really only need the rear one, front ones hardly ever wear out although I did do both on mine. My old ones practically fell out of the wishbone: Vs the new PSBushing ones: I've found PS bushings to be pretty good for vibrations. I changed my arb bushes for PSB ones too, had new Rubber ones bought but put these ones in instead, only reason being I got a "kit" of bushes for another fabia, and got the right size arb bush for my car.
  31. That’s because the SEL comes with heated steering wheel anyway, I think 🤔 yes my wife and daughter are big fans of the heated passenger seat in my Yeti 😎
  32. @Gizmodid you wanna add this one to the tried and tested? High Beam Assist Stays On, Even After Ignition Cycle Go to 09 - Central Electronics Select Security access, code is 31347 Go to Adaptation Change the channel below to deactivated/nicht activ - ENG141650-ENG116639-Fernlicht_assistent-Fernlichtassistent Reset This will make it so if High Beam Assist is enabled, once you turn the car off and on again it will remember the last setting and re-enable it automatically.
  33. It's most probably an inadvertent prolonged push of the 'open' button on your fob. Do you keep your keys in your pocket at home?

If only I could start the car - I'm waiting on AA to arrive so that they can give it a kick and then I'll try what you say
  35. Not an apple and apples comparison but I went from an Octavia TDI estate (mk3) to a Passat GTE. Road noise is very similar. Obviously engine noise is less but wind and tyres create more noise at cruising speed in most cars. I've not noticed a significant difference at the sort of speeds that matter. Low/mid speed you get the same bumps and rattles but less engine noise.
  36. Did they do a software update while the car was plugged in and checking what software was on for the DSG and any fault codes? What matters here is how common since 2015 and by 2017, and this is different from those 2009-2015. ????????? Who did the diagnosis was it at the main dealership? ? Have they checked the TPI's regarding a 2017 DQ200 DSG? Be careful where people want lots of money to just replace parts that might not require replacing. Ignore the TPI's on the Pre 2015 DQ200 DSG's, you want to know about the 2015 on built boxes. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/439395-the-story-of-the-famous-dq200-clutch-slip/page/13 There is a TPI on the DQ200's from this age. Skoda / VW issued these because of the known issues. (After the Service campaigns covering 2009-2012's and 2013's-2015, those are 34F7 started in 2014 and 34H5 started in 2017. ) There is software updates and clutch update for some DQ200's from 2015 to 2017. Be sure the people doing it are experienced with DQ200 DSG repairs.
  37. This thread fills me with dread lads !! This is an obvious message to tell me to fix mine 🤔
  38. I'm sure you get a pop up or other message saying it needs activating and to contact a dealer. If you are getting the smartlink screen without it then you should be good. Incidentally, when it does come up (even when working) it looks like it's greyed out but you can still select. Just be sure to hit the right one. Mirror link is also an option but a pile of p00.
  39. Bought mine recently and after a flat battery and codes cleared from flat battery- throttle adaption seems to have made fly by wire pedal seem much snappier. Coming from a Megane GT turbo felt heavy and slow- could be my imagination but seems more comparable speed wise and more composed than the GT Turbo. Also lot higher insurance group for a marginally faster car
  40. Convinced VW use the same one for every car in the range, even the one in a 2016 touareg looks the same as the one in my 2001 fabia
  41. There's a time limit on editing your own posts. @Gizmo could you edit the autotrader links out on the thread? They contain the OP's postcode
  42. I got it 6 months old, but I worked away for lots of those years. Car was laid up for at least 50% of the time !.
  43. Not exactly hifi, but certainly from yesteryear. My first ever (and still working) Sony radio. Circa 1973-ish:
  44. See, one like that, AKA EV version of petrol-station, need to be as ubiquitous as petrol stations to enable use-cases like Ms Elanore. It is possible with today's battery technology: go there for a quick top up like visiting petrol station, 10min to over 50%. Go home to slow charge while sleeping, to 100%. If all petrol stations, overnight, replaced half of their pump with rapid chargers (and battery for reduced grid load, like Gridserve). It would instantly solve the infrastructure problem and open up EV as an option for almost everyone. For second EV, or become NICE family (no internal combustion engine ), really really need a dependable infrastructure when away from home.
  45. With the Zoe with its 55 kWh battery, 52 kWh displayed and usable, I am probably not being as brave as I could be. My main place of work, my office at Heathrow, has 10 destination chargers and I have only seen one other used so with me that is ten. I broke on as it would not give me my expensive 3 phase cable back so I pulled its face off and it had to be made electrical safe and is still out of service. Still not used any DC charging on route but used a few AC charging post, one at 11 kWh, all free as we as my works chargers being free, or in actuality being paid for by the host who ones the site ie my employer, the restaurant etc. Need to bite the bullet and give a DC charger a go. Looking forward to using the Gridserve meg stations, one in Plymouth which will be awesome with its 32 charge points.... A second EV, choosing between the new Megane-e or one of the MG is logical for me as I like cheap, paying even 6 months salary for a new car sounds too much to me, or 3 years car allowance.
  46. I'm afraid it's a total waste of time and money, you'll end up with what was a perfectly good car in bits that doesn't work any more, then you'll lose interest and buy something faster. So just cut out the stupid part, sell that car and buy a faster car.
  47. There is, but wouldn't you rather have somebody work on your car in person than a stranger who works remotely and can vanish as easily as clicking disconnect? 😊
