  2. Before we get into that debate... let's not. Ta.

Thanks for the article. I even found an apology somewhere in between, but with a note that Skoda customers are quite picky about their cars and hence have to wait 🙄 I thought it was like that everywhere, the customer gets to pick the colour and engine and extra equipment if necessary (active and ambition are not like super equipped imo). So we can blame ourselves for waiting and not picking a car out of stock 🤣🤣🤣🤣
  5. Last nights moon.

  8. There's a 1.5TSi Manual Style at home that someone else uses. They are happy with it overall. Things they are happy with How quiet the 1.5TSi is and it's more economical than expected Comfortable and very relaxing to drive Space. There's a lot more space than expected. The Style has a few "blingy bits" that make it look a bit better than the ordinary ones. Things that surprised How easy the infotainment was for them to use and set up the way they like it (as they are over 70 and struggle with an old Nokia brick phone!) Zero crashes, foibles etc from infotainment Ride quality for a car on 18" wheels - a LOT better than expected A few things that annoy are The anti-stall stuff that rises the revs for low speed maneuvering seems to switch itself off at random intervals meaning almost stalling. Previous car was a 2.0 Diesel Octavia and had enough torque at idle to manouver They hate the auto-handbrake. It's the first car they've had with auto-hanbrake and some adjustment time is needed. Virtual Cockpit has too many options/configurations for their liking.
  9. And he is also a great asset to the forum! Pete, have you considered offering your service on Ebay? I had a caravan power supply repaired by someone like yourself who did it as a sideline & I think only the one unit and rapidly became known as the go to guy, he is very much like yourself, wanting to save people money while saving serviceable equipment from landfill.
  10. Best or favourite car - a tricky one! Favourite has to be my old 'N'-reg Triumph Dolomite (1850cc version). I no' but a lad of 18 when I got it and it felt like a rocket ship (which it wasn't really) and with the addition of overdrive on 3rd and 4th made that change down to overtake a flick of a switch - so much easier and quicker. Shame it was a bit naff in the corners though. I've had better cars since but that one gave me the biggest smile.
  11. All my cars have been old-ish. The one I liked the most was my Mk6 Escort 1.6 Zetec. Beautiful smooth, trouble-free engine. Hard to say what the best car I've driven has been, Audi TT & 2019 Ford Focus Vignale were fun and I've driven a lot of newish hire cars.

skoda saying octavias delivery times are around 12 months.if so why is there some of us waiting for over 1 years for our cars.mine is coming up to 13 moths on 21 june.i take everything with a pinch of salt what skoda and sales teams say.
  13. Fairly strict, but thats to avoid people taking the mick out of all of us. You’ve got a very long way to go before I feel that Cut me a cheque out of your first 6 figure year

  16. Also @Carlston - That's how I read it too.
  17. This is the Fabia estate but probably the same (or similar) seat catch....
  18. My Manta GT/E was written off coming back from it's first MOT so I bought the salvage and rebuilt it for stage rallying
  19. I think a bit like music you are defined by your era. My love of cars comes from watching films like Cannonball run, Smokey and the Bandit etc. So the sounds of a big V8 is evocative to me. People 15yr younger might prefer the sound of high powered 4s like the Scoobies and Evos of the 90s. Maybe if your tastes are being defined now you'll find the insipid whine of a Tesla sends shivers down your spine. Or maybe you just won't care about cars at all. I think the golden age of motoring is past. Cars are (and have been for 20yr) becoming increasingly bland and sold based upon their connection to you phone. I really think I need to get a big silly V8/10/12 before they are all gone or banned
  20. I think he means a steering wheel. Not an alloy wheel from an Octavia.
  21. The robins expressed a clear preference for the meal worms over the bird seed!
  22. Colourful sky this evening. Really glad I polished the car as it makes all the difference to the reflection😃
  23. Beautiful 👍
  24. Did that make it a 'Sprint'? Mate had a 1500 when I had a Renault 16TL and I remember being dead envious. G
  25. I've just met the new owner of the vRS, an enthusiast who is loving the car and has already added a new backbox with large tailpipes! Glad to see it has gone to a good home, and remains local so I should still see it occasionally. He's not a car forum person but I pointed him to this thread to get the story of my car ownership.
  26. Looks like my race blue vRS.
  27. It looks to be metallic so if it is it is not Energy Blue.
  28. Many people wrongly think the DFM wire is a control from ECU that tells the alternator what to do. It's not though, it's just a feedback signal telling the ECU how hard it's having to work.
  29. Quite possibly its not been calibrated or set up correctly. Both sides should mirror each other in what they do.
  30. Having had Bilstein B4s and Eibach Pro Springs on other cars I am very interested to see what you think on the VRS. I'm on 83k now and for an 8 year car the suspension is probably past its best. I was always impressed at B4s and the less crashy nature of Eibachs so I would go down that route again.

Latest article about Skoda from slovak newspaper: https://ekonomika.pravda.sk/firmy-a-trhy/clanok/630257-sef-skoda-auto-na-slovensku-fabiu-ci-karoq-dodame-od-5-do-6-mesiacov-ceny-pojdu-asi-o-par-percent-hore/ Google translate: Skoda Auto head in Slovakia: We will deliver Fabia or Karoq in 5 to 6 months, prices will go up by a few percent The car can be manufactured without spare parts, such as control units or door panels. It passes the inspection and is exported to the parking area, where it waits for its completion. Another thing is cable harnesses, without them we can't easily assemble a car, says Jaroslav Hercog, head of Škoda Auto Slovensko, in an interview for the daily Pravda. Tomáš Bakoš 06/13/2022 16:41 The Mladá Boleslav-based carmaker Škoda Auto still does not produce to the maximum capacity. The problem is the lack of parts. So what is the situation, what parts are missing from carmakers? Not only the automotive industry is facing the impact of covid, which has brought about the severance of logistics ties, the closure or reduction of production at suppliers. Gradually, individual waves came with various constraints, which manufacturers and suppliers gradually adapted to a number of measures to ensure uninterrupted production. At the time of the covid, demand for chips from cars, where the rise was expected to be slow, was shifting to chips in consumer electronics as people spent much more time at home. This created an imbalance between supply and demand, which caused a second blow to most car manufacturers. Again, we said that worse things couldn't have happened anymore, and we had no idea what was coming on February 24 this year. Did the war in Ukraine come and with it other problems with works? Apart from the great suffering experienced by the people of Ukraine after the aggression, the war has exacerbated the effects of the shortage of parts even further. Production at many suppliers from Ukraine was discontinued, especially in the area of cable harnesses. However, in a short time, thanks to the great commitment of all parties involved, the production of cable harnesses was at least partially resumed. Our ambition is to continue production in Ukraine, and thus help even in difficult times. That is why we very much appreciate the flexibility of Ukrainian employees, who, even in times of war, were able to at least partially maintain production in the factory. As a result of this situation, we also feel that we need to diversify much more. Head of Škoda Auto Slovakia: We are launching a novelty, responding to the lack of vehicles on the market: What exactly does that mean? Specifically, in our case, this means that in close cooperation with the affected suppliers from Ukraine, we duplicated the production of cable harnesses to the Czech Republic. At the same time, we have secured new production capacity in Morocco. The aim of these measures is to provide even better security against possible future supply disruptions. These measures make it possible, if necessary, to increase current production volumes. Ways are being sought so that the flow of components does not stop. Since October, when production was last discontinued, we are still not going at full capacity, but we have not had to stop production completely. You mentioned diversification in production. The game is the production of cable harnesses in Morocco. What exactly is there, was it a consequence of the war in Ukraine? The current situation has taught us a lot and contributed to a reassessment of current practices and customs in relation to globalization. There has been greater diversification and a shift away from globalization. There is a much greater emphasis on securing the supply of components from countries that are less risky, whether from a geopolitical or logistical point of view. In addition to the war in Ukraine, I will cite the example of Asia, specifically China, which, due to zero tolerance for the covid, closes repeatedly and ships not only cannot sail, but there is no one to lock them for lockdowns, thus disrupting supply chains. However, I do not think that we will produce everything in Europe in the future. We do not have the capacity, the resources of the materials, the staff, nor the necessary investments to do everything at home. However, manufacturers will be very careful to be able to provide at least some of the key components directly, thus ensuring greater control over deliveries. Which parts are still affected? We know that only a handful of companies make chips. Is it possible to diversify it at all with chips? The production of chips is very demanding in terms of investment and technology. Manufacturers are located mainly in Asia - in Taiwan or Malaysia. It is a matter of several years to move such a factory to Europe. It will certainly happen that Europe will try to start producing some strategic components such as chips locally, which is already happening and that is good. Well, I don't think we'll be producing all the parts that go into cars here in Europe. Jaroslav Hercog, CEO of Škoda Auto Slovensko. Carmakers are missing parts. How are we to imagine what happens to vehicles, incomplete vehicles leave the production line and are delivered in parking lots? The car is a complex product that consists of thousands of parts. Without some of them, such as one of the control units or the already mentioned door panels, the car can be manufactured, inspected and exported to the parking area, where it will wait for its completion, as soon as the missing part will be available again. Another example is cable harnesses. Think of them as a network that travels like a car. If we talk about the main cable harnesses, then it is not possible to insert them into the car, because they are placed in the vehicle in the initial phase of car production and are often measured according to the model and equipment, even several kilometers. What are the current waiting times for vehicle delivery? The situation is gradually improving. Waiting times depend to a large extent on the selected model, equipment, engine or transmission. We can say that smaller models like FABIA, KAMIQ, SCALA or KAROQ can be delivered from five to six months after ordering, due to the fact that they need a smaller number of critical parts. Of course, even that is still more than we would like. For larger models, it's a bit more. The OCTAVIA model, where the already mentioned fire of the factory for the production of door panels also occurred in addition to the lack of chips, is currently waiting for about 12 months. We are very sorry for this situation. That is why I would like to take this opportunity to thank the customers who are waiting for their cars. I would also like to mention the fact that our customers traditionally order their ŠKODA according to their specific wishes in terms of equipment, motorization or preferred color. The share of such orders with us is up to 80%. Of course, there is also a group of customers who need a car immediately, and here is the opportunity to use the available stock of dealers or the newly introduced program of certified ŠKODA used vehicles, which customers will find under the ŠKODA Plus banner at our 17 authorized partners. At the beginning of December, the daily Pravda reported that the price of OCTAVIA or SUPERBA had risen last year. We have 12 percent inflation here, energy prices are also rising, which are additional costs for the plants. Is there a risk of rewriting price lists this year as well? We are certainly not planning to make our vehicles more expensive at such a high level, but we must reflect on what is happening around us. The prices of materials, energy and other inputs are constantly rising, and we are unable to compensate for these increases in efficiency and increased productivity. Our suppliers gradually pass on the costs to us and we have to compensate some of them by reflecting them in the price. Therefore, it may happen that prices move in the order of several percent. At the beginning of the year, we adjusted the prices and it may happen that due to high prices of materials and energy, prices will continue to move during the year. What further market development do you expect on the Slovak market of new passenger cars this year? We see that there is still a strong demand for new vehicles. The number of orders available to our network is at the level of covid years ago, which is a great result of the work of our network of dealers, attractive model offer as well as the trust of our customers. This year, the market could be around 85,000. However, we must also take into account the fact that we are still moving in a very turbulent environment full of unpredictable influences.
  32. Probably a Scottish thing. A licence is required in Scotland.
  33. It is a strange world just now and dealers / manufacturers can just sell or lease what they can produce and then register what people want. I like the look of Ford Pumas but have not gone and tried one yet. I could live with how they look.
  34. No. That's stock ride height for sportline. I don't want to mess any more with the factory geometry. Fitted a fat (25mm) rear ARB & planning some KONI dampers sometime but springs getting left alone

  38. Here is a Passat lowered on the Eibach Pro-kit springs. The Superb uses the exact same springs. Drop is approx 20-25mm if u have DCC. It's the same springs I have.

  40. My old 335d. Not very special I guess but it was the best car I've ever owned. Brutally fast, felt a bit murderous in the corners and pretty tame to run. For my SWMBO she loved, loved the first car she bought herself. It was a Mini Coupe JCW, her brothers car from new. She was gutted when it had to go because we needed a back seat. She loved it so much that now we have the space we've just bought another near identical coupe to keep as a summer future classic.
  41. I would just like to add my comments and recommendation to Pete’s window motor repair service offer. I am a new member on this Forum and was surprised and delighted by the incredibly fast response I received. From the moment I made contact with Pete he was absolutely superb with the information provided, his support and communication. Once he confirmed my defective motor would seem to be one he may be able to repair, I sent him the motor on the Monday before the Jubilee weekend. I was aware he would be unable to look at it before the Jubilee Friday but even considering that, I had my repaired and fully working motor back to my door on the following Monday! A truly incredible service. At the same time it has been so much more economical to utilise this option and also to save a perfectly repairable motor being discarded, not to mention the considerably higher cost of purchasing a new, or even secondhand, replacement. Should any other member find themselves needing a solution to an electric window motor repair problem, I cannot recommend Pete’s service highly enough. He did me an excellent deal all round and he will be my first point of contact in the event I ever have any similar problems. Many thanks for your support Pete. 👍 An all round first class gent.
  42. My car is due for delivery wednesday they offered that date then when i chose it they asked if i could delay delivery further as they are trying to reduce their carbon foot print. I kindly pointed out i've been waiting for over 12months for the car so thats offset his carbon foot print and to give me my god damn car!
  43. Opell Manta 2.0 GTE. Pretty car. I love all cars., the ugly ones too, Dacia, Skodas, everything except the Fiat Multipla. Example picture similar to mine. Slippery shape, vague-ish instrumentation could show over 130 mph, not bad for a mere 110 hp but it was slipper and light. True top speed more like 120 and acceleration about 8 seconds to 60 mph. Looked good, related to the early ie mk1 Cavalier, so front engine and rear wheel drive, fun in slip conditions like the MK 1 and 2 Escorts.

I've attached a screenshot of the page from the Superb manual regarding the correct way to use Kessy
  45. I had the microswitch (5Q0713128A) replaced on my Golf at the local VW dealer for £120 - warranty company paid the bill. If your not happy using the main dealer, try Vasstech at Thornaby, I've used their Durham branch and they were spot on.
  46. Do you mean to say that the rear indicator bulb lights up when you apply the brake when the indicators were not in operation? If so you have a bad earth and I speculate you may also have a non functioning rear screen washer. The earth terminal is behind the LH side luggage compartment trim, right under the connector in the washer pump tubing.

I turn the stop / start off every time I start a cold engine and might turn it back on when the engine oil is above 75 C. But only if I will be stopped for say at traffic lights. Most of my journeys are NOT on urban traffic heavy roads though. 1.2 TSI petrol, last tank was 60MPG, original battery was tested last Saturday and is still very good after 6 years and 64K miles. Thanks, AG Falco look here for your answer:-
