  1. This warning applies to all models fitted with the 1.2tsi EA111 chaincam engines, includes Fabia, Octavia,Yeti, Rapid, Spaceback maybe some others. Also a wide range of other VAG models VW, Seat, Audi with the 1.2tsi engines Today I picked up a Bosch Filter from Eurocarparts for our 2011 1.2tsi Octavia. Checked it before leaving the shop and it is the wrong style of filter. The sealing arrangement on this Bosch filter is for the 1.4tsi engine and is NOT suitable for the 1.2tsi. Also it is a Black filter and not Silver indicating it has a paper filter element and not the synthetic filter that is specified for tsi engines and is the only type suitable for an extended serivce regime (2yr/18600 miles) Bosch filters are rebranded filters made by other manufacturers and have appeared in this case to have changed from MANN made in Germany to another manufacturer now made in France. MANN filters being the OE manufacturer for VAG supplying VAG branded filters to dealers. This may explain the issue experience of @Dazl1212 and his knocking engine Now I know he definitely had the incorrect filter type fitted. So probably had low oil pressure damaging his engine. He ended up getting shut of his car Bosch evidently have not checked their new supplier is shipping the correct part. They are using the 1.2tsi part no but supplying a 1.4tsi part. What it should look like, note the rubber sleeve This is what the Bosch filter ECP supplied looked like except it was in Black and had the 1.2tsi part no printed on the box For reference this is the correct MANN OE filter That sleeve is important. Even Mahle in their video I posted elsewhere warn not to confuse the 2 filter styles. Genuine VAG filter
  2. There is a Swan nesting just behind a local restaurant - Mum was on the nest this evening, but we got a quick peak at one of the cygnets (several eggs still in the nest). So many rats! The duck was an odd one - constantly staring at me, with it's head tilted to one side. Was quite disconcerting😬
  3. Yep. You put the wipers in the service position. The manual states how to do this (I can’t remember off the top of my head).
  4. With something of a sense of guilt, given everyone's kind efforts, I'm popping back to say that I still haven't changed the car. The worrying noises coming from the Mk2 turned out to be a (somewhat dangling) water pump. With that sorted it's really hard to find a reason to get rid of this car. Despite being 13 years old, it's incredibly reliable, it's regularly giving me over 45 mpg, it takes whatever loads you throw at, the cabin is actually really nice (I'm still obsessed with the fact that the Mk3 loses the door card fabric and the right foot rest). I still think that when it dies it will get replaced by a Mk3 (so the advice remains helpful). But with the cost of every being so high currently, even 'man maths' can't make me part with a great car for something largely unknown. I was such a car guy. I never imagined I'd keep a car for over a decade!
  5. So the reason for this is your vehicle is on the crossover year so there are 2 options basically...
  6. Put the charger on the battery and alarm started to go off straight away (3 seconds or so), could not open doors but disconnected battery and have left on charger overnight. Will try it out with a full battery tomorrow, but probably drive neighbors nuts as cant turn alarm off afterwards. This will allow us to try central locking if key is not inside vehicle.. Going to be a fun day..
  7. I mean I guess you could, but so many people complain on here about it being a broken service. And it won't be "plug and play" cost wise this will be an expensive thing to do for little reward.
  8. Quick recap… Skoda Octavia Mk3 2016 /17 Recovered stolen vehicle, no keys, all doors locked, flat battery, all electric windows. Googled Skoda Octavia Mk3 bonnet release cable broken and none were the same.. —- What did we learn today… Don’t cut into grille, can’t do anything here… (see pics), there is nothing you can do from front. What works? Removed lhs front wheel and internal lining. There is a bonnet cable here, inside up above headlight that can be reached, however the join of two cables is different to everything I could find on the net. Had a look at wife’s 2015 Tiguan.. Lo and behold it has same bonnet release.. Pull case apart easily, with small screwdriver (small lid comes off), and grab join of cables and pull.. bingo bonnet open. No need to pull join apart. Sorry pictures not in order but should make sense, and hopefully help next person.
  9. I’ve had the car about 5 weeks and only realised yesterday that it has keyless entry 😂 No one at the dealers told me this when I picked the car up and so I’ve been locking and unlocking the car using the key fob buttons, which is what I’ve done with previous cars. But when I got home yesterday the car seemed to be playing up when I tried locking it - depressed fob, doors locked but then for some reason I double-checked the boot and found that it would still open. Assuming I’d not locked up properly I unlocked and locked it again . . . .repeat. Decided I’d leave the car as was and google the problem only to then realise that the keyless system was the ‘cause’ in so far as every time I touched the boot catch or door it would unlock. At this point the theme from the Muppets was playing loudly in my head and boy did Significant Other have a laugh. Perhaps I should have read the handbook more thoroughly, but hey no harm done. SO asked me today if there was any other buttons I’ve not found yet that’ll make the car fly 😏
  10. As both myself and Lady Munch have birthdays in May we got to discussing holidays and where we would like to be for our respective birth dates. She has always wanted to see Venice and I just adore Croatia and just so happen to have a friend who is the head of tourism is Split. Mrs has never been to Croatia so we started looking at how we could cover both dates, 3rd and 19th in two different countries. Sure we could fly in to either but that left 16 days between dates... What to do within those dates? Sittin on a beach is just purgatory for both of us.. Rather be out exploring the locality. Pompeii? yeah... ! Florence...? Yeah! Venice... Fk Yeah! Then she quipped that she has always wanted to see Lake Bled. I was quite happy with Split, Plitvice lakes, and yes, Slovenia. I must add at this point I have done all the aforementioned but this was some 30 years ago on a 3 month tour of Europe on 2 wheels! Looking at car hire costs it quickly became obvious that it was not going to be cheap to cover the destinations we listed with flights, hotels and car hire so I said... Beggar that (something like that) I'll drive it! One last tour whilst I still can and we take a month out of life and go see... What can go wrong??? Here we are, all planned and we simply cannot wait for the 27th April to begin our tour. Leeds-Hull Hull-Rotterdam Rotterdam-Luxembourg- overnight Luxembourg-Nuremburg (Joe Bonamassa Concert) - overnight Nuremburg-Liechtenstein- overnight Liechtenstein- Venice via the San Bernardino Pass Venice 3 nights Venice-Florence 2 nights Florence- outside Naples in the mountains 3 nights Naples-Tavullia (VR46) overnight Tavullia-Ancona for the night sail to Split. Split... 8 days of beer, sunshine and zero driving! Trips to Hvar, Brak, some deep sea fishing etc and my BD. Split-Plitvice lakes-overnight. Plitvice-Lake bled-2 nights Lake Bled- Vienna-overnight Vienna-Prague-overnight Prague-Dresden-2 nights Dresden-Hannover-overnight Hannover-Amsterdam-overnight Amsterdam-Rotterdam Home. Overnights include getting there in plenty of time to sightsee and plenty of time for a civilised departure to the next destination. If we have hiccup, so what. We sleep in the car lol We will be uploading pics and videos of our adventure so stay tuned.
  11. Not convinced it would be any fault of the brakes themselves. And the fault on impact strengthens my theory of a loose connection. Check the abs sensors and cabling while swapping out the parts.
  12. I think it's been used as an idiots scriber or centrepunch.
  13. I checked the part no on the box, it was the correct part no. as per Bosch catalogue. But knowing what to expect I immediately knew it was the wrong style. It was almost much shorter than the Mann/VAG filter. Many on this and other forums use ECP, they are usually a reliable supplier if you stick to the quality brands. This warning is for anyone with EA111 1.2tsi engines, whether doing DIY or using independents, many of which will use Bosch parts and not have a clue that what they are using is wrong as it seems to have a correct part no on the box/filter. I guess that hundreds have been fitted. And how many have had engines trashed, written off or had expensive unnecessary repairs Problem lies with Bosch. This lack of QA when they change supplier calls into question whether to risk using Bosch aftermarket parts at all. I won't from now on.
  14. On such a critical application as this engine I'd be tempted to pay the extra fiver or whatever for genuine from dealership.
  15. That was your first mistake, euro's hardly supply the correct anything for any application! Whats the registration for the vehicle you are trying to get the filter for, id be interested to look into it myself and see if its a supplier issue or eurocarparts issue.
  16. I think we can update you to 0480 version by Private Message
  17. Thanks for the info, but i have discovered the amplifier is in the aerial, removed from car and inside the aerial base is a printed circuit board, it did't look to bad and gave it a gentle clean with alcohol but did not fix the problem, looks like a new aerial base is what i need
  18. Thanks for comments, might try and do the Tiguan filter but have ordered filter and sump for Octavia and will see what happens after cleaning pump. The HU66 lock pick didn't work on this car. Appears they are either 9 or 10 pin locks, but could end up wasting more money so time to move on. Put charger on battery and alarm went off. disconnected battery and put on charger to get fully charged. Cheap lesson but now time to order keys and find panels.
  19. Ah.. Haaaa... I've only had the car a year, and this is the first time I've needed to replace them, didn't realise it was such a faff... Never had a car that needed a 'Special Handshake' to change the Wiper Blades!! 😁 Cheers Dooder!! 😎
  20. I said it looked like one... Arse, covered!
  21. It looks like the end of my mechanics stethoscope, the one that keeps falling out into inaccessible places under the bonnet!
  22. The filter has done its job but wherever the grit came from it will have been through the oil pump to get there, the oil pick up strainer will have caught any larger pieces. Is it normal? I dont know but will dissect mine at the next oil change, perhaps you could fit a new filter to the Tiguan and check the old one as a comparison?
  23. Trop Bon - Trop Con.
  24. Also worth clearing any codes that indicate an ancillary has been shutdown for power saving reasons, if there are any, and any codes on the seat memory and infotainment system - some codes are 'sticky' and will affect the operation even after the root cause has been solved until the codes are cleared.

Yes IMHO provided the time between post and bump is "reasonable" i.e. more than a few hours.
  26. Coolant should be flushed while cambelt is replaced if coolant pump is replaced at the same time. BTW, coolant pump replacement is a good investment on a TDI, since several overheating issues are related to coolant pump failure (pump stuck). Otherwise, nothing to add to posts above.
  27. No because new menu is from newer media unit, you cant transform crt monitor to lcd one…
  28. Service this evening New air filter New oil and filters No glitter in the oil or filter. Oil was very watery though. New fuel filter too Primed the system with vcds, lot easier than bleeding it the normal way, doubt that'd work on this anyway. What came out of the fuel filter. Might cut the old one open just to see how bad it was. Probably gonna service it more frequently now on since it's racking up the miles. Also got the darkside feed line aswell as all gaskets (genuine) to put the turbo on. Everything got now to fit the turbo, waiting for someone to get back to me if they can map it. New undertray got too. Was bought for another car but that ended up using one of my damaged trays, so now I've a new genuine tray to go on whenever. Also making another gearbox mount as the one on it is going.
  29. Looks like a knitting needle. It could have been used as a tool by a mechanic and left after doing work. I would say quite confidently it is not a part of the car.
  30. My comment re. you touching a nerve and also @J.R.'s reaction kind of suggests it's not us. I re-read my replies before sending to reign them in and keep them as polite as possible. I'll not bother in the future.
  31. Use a second hand unit for a fraction of the price - if it’s a like for like; any garage can do it, if it’s an OEM upgrade you are after then it can be done by a specialist for still a damn sight less than 3k - wouldn’t expect to pay more than £1000 for this

Delivery day is upon us! 30th May it has been scheduled for. I was expecting a week or more into June so this is great. SEL Estate PHEV + winter pack.
  33. Couple of photos of some Cygnets down at the local park plus some bonus shots of the newest resident of the home 😂
  34. I think you misunderstood my message. Driver Assistance systems are not an NCAP requirement as such, but are needed to get 5 star ratings. So consumers have the choice - they can buy Dacias etc which don't fit any, but get 1 star ratings or go for cars which have higher safety ratings. Most manufacturers want to see their cars getting higher ratings as this generates more sales, so market forces encourage them to provide the assistance systems. Insurance companies also increase their premiums for cars with lower NCAP ratings, which is another driver as customers want cars with cheaper insurance. My car has traffic sign recognition built in, which works when signs have the required design and are clearly visible. But they will not be recognised when they just show numbers or are hidden by overgrown trees etc. Clearly no manufacturer can accept responsibility for councils not maintaining their signs, or using signs saying "20 when light is flashing".
  35. Update. Ignition leads changed and it's running like a formula one car. Can't believe what difference new plugs and leads make.
  36. Hi Xantamisch - glad you got the problem sorted. Having watched your video, I’ve started a Crowdfunding page to try to raise money to buy a bucket and sponge for you. I’m sure the tailgate would have worked fine had it not been for the half hundredweight of crud plastered on it. 😂😂

  38. hi ‘82 I hear where you’re coming from, and in a carefree world, that’s exactly the approach I would take! Why stress about something? in a city, why do people Nick ratty bicycles? Why do people, Nick rubbish mopeds? It’s because it’s there, and it’s nickable. Ok Scalas are not high end, However, in the current world, the car is priceless, if it’s a wet, dark, miserable evening, and I want to get home. If I don’t have the car, because it’s pinched, I can’t enjoy it! 🙂 Best wishes. Martin.
  39. I appreciate we all find ourselves in different financial situations but when PCP was first being promoted, the idea was you'd be left with equity in the car which you could use as a deposit on the next. I NEVER understood that logic. I only use PCP these days to secure an extra discount and or benefits, paying the balance off in the days after taking delivery, but when setting up the PCP nearly every salespeople I've spoken to questions putting down the max. deposit. " That's not how PCP is designed to work " comes the reply. Too bloody right it isn't, it's designed to benefit the creditor, not the debtor. Those who take out credit seem to think it's the otherway round. The power of advertising eh? Unless you don't have the money to hand, I've never understood that logic. I hear lots of people like Yogi-Bear say things like the equity was greater than expected as if it's a good thing. It makes me question if these people actually know how PCP works? If someone finds that their car has more equity than they thought it would, that means they've just paid more finance than was necessary. I find that very confusing. Why would anyone see paying more interest than was necessary as a good thing?

@edbostanHow often are you doing or having oil changes as you have a few threads on the subject. Not to save money but to love your engine would you not just well be using VW502 00 rather than VW Groups recommended Long Life oils. (VW's record of long lived Euro 5 TSI's is not great.) Time will tell how those that get VW508 00 since 2018 will get on as the years roll on and maybe cars roll on with engines replaced. ..................... Plenty of the Oils meet and exceed the VW approved VW504 00 507 00. Castrol Long Life as recommended by VW Group is nothing special anyway. German Engines are some of the worst for early death of engines out of warranty. Note that French, South Korean, Japanese, Chinese etccar manufacturers might have other Recommended Oil Manufacturers other than Castrol. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/413293-best-oil-not-5w-30 I got handed my ass here by a knowledgable member. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/479648-tesco-engine-oil-brgains
  41. It will be water in the rear exhaust box from condensation. The water will evaporate during a long run, but build up again with short runs on a cold engine & with cold weather.
  42. Hello some version for MEN2_EU_SK_P4350L cant find any on mib-helper
  43. MarkyG82 -- Well, as you say, perhaps not bother in the future.
  44. J.R. -- I fail to see how you interpret my reply as entering into an argument. I have no experience of Pathfinder vehicles, nor am I privy to the variations available in their Bull Bar range - so I simply stated the obvious about sizing. I politely disagreed with your rejection of driver descriptions, and provided reasonable explanations for doing so. I agreed with your comment regarding bumpers "then" and "now", and voicing my memories accordingly. I made mention of bespoke simply to illustrate my willingness to purchase a "special product", and preferably based on a tried and tested design - one which could easily end up using the Pathfinder design as a template. However, in order to avoid any future upset, it is perhaps best you don't respond further on this topic. Thanks for your contribution to date.
