  1. Just sent this to my local Tory MP Karen Bradley. Dear Karen. As my local MP I wondered if you could assist in any way with this matter. There used to be two providers of RDS-TMC traffic information for the UK. They were Trafficmaster which used to send information via FM radio stations such as Heart and Capitol with the other being INRIX which still sends information via Classic FM. This is a very useful service for motorists as even vehicles that receive on line traffic information can use the RDS-TMC service in areas of poor reception. Trafficmaster closed down their service at the end of March this year. They supplied Traffic information to vehicle owners of the VW Group, Honda and many more manufacturers. This means that the system commonly called Dynamic Navigation no longer informs drivers of traffic hold ups, road works or accidents etc. As the system no longer works it does not suggest another route to the driver avoiding these incidents which can only lead to longer journey times and of course more emissions from the engines. I own an Audi A6 and along with many others have been told by VAG Group that they have no plans to either reinstate the Trafficmaster service or to switch to the still operative INRIX service which I believe will be providing the data for at least another eight years. I find this decision to be very poor both in terms of customer relations and of course the environmental issues it is certain to cause. I have added a link to an internet forum used by Skoda owners (part of the VAG Group) where you will observe the problem being discussed by many Skoda and owners of other makes of car which are affected by the Trafficmaster shutdown. The problem is also discussed on other forums but this one is the most in depth and populated by lots of unhappy owners who feel their needs are now being completely ignored by the various manufacturers whose vehicles are affected. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/512443-tmc-traffic-events-no-longer-being-receivedfirmware-update-required/
  2. Here are a few photos of my mk3 which I collected just 8 days ago following a long-drawn-out search for ideally another L&K to replace my mk2 one that got written off in April. The previous owner has removed all Skoda and L&K badges wherever possible, just glad they were unable to do the same with those on the interior. I must admit though I do kind of like the fact that it doesn't shout about where in the range line up it sits and the only external non logo badge is the Superb on the boot.
  3. Ignore what the box says. Do the fitments of both your old and new bulbs match up? If not, you need to return them for the correct set.
  4. Had high hopes for the sunset this evening, but it petered out to nothing sadly. Did spot some ducklings though 👍
  5. Battery management needing coding on the Superb 2 was only included on models with start stop as far as I know. A lot of the control modules get upset when battery voltage drops too low but the warnings will reset when the voltage gets back to normal. Any functions related to steering require you to turn the wheel lock to lock to recalibrate the steering angle sensor. All of the OPs warnings fall into this category.
  6. As if they will understand. It will go right over their heads Nor will they care and just say it's a commercial decision

  8. The spotting scope works OK for some stuff and is good for the moon but is difficult to line up well even before zooming in and on the one I have the mount between tripod and scope isn't stable enough. I can probably fix the latter with some fettling to tighten it up but the alignment issue would then remain., so I'm thinking something purpose made would be much better.
  9. I've been looking upwards for a while. It's surprising what you can see, even with 10x50 binoculars. I'm lucky to have Herstmonceux Observatory and Science Centre only a few miles away and access to dark(ish) skies as a result. I wasn't sure what to get, but it's easy to find recommendations, not to mention we have astronomy group open evenings at both Herstmonceux and Beachy Head. I also wasn't sure if I'd take to it, so didn't want to spend a lot of money for an entry level telescope. I decided on a 130mm Celestron, or similar. But then this came up, very locally (under two miles away) for peanuts, with three lenses, including a Barlow: It's a 114mm Helios (forerunner to Celestron), but I figure it's a good starting point. As an absolute novice, I've cleaned it, but I'm dead nervous about collimating, so I might join a local group to find my way. Yet to use it properly. Interesting to read @skomaz comment about his spotting scope - I'd wondered if one of those might be a better option for me. Gaz
  10. @pcbbcWell done that is indeed the solution on a mib2 hìgh. Reboot of the infotainment unit.... The long hold on the on / off. No cross in TMC... looking good. Route into Essex. I thought a DIY solution was going to be the answer 😉. Not sure which services it will pick up abroad now mind you. For others it was done with the Obdeleven with the Pro license. Works with a dongle white on an Android or the Next Gen black one Android or iPhone with the Pro licenses. People will be able to do this with VCDS. You have to feed that field in the 5f module, reboot the unit and Bobs your Uncle.
  11. Just at the point the EV nay sayers attempt to undermine the EV revolution Volvo launch the EX 30, no EV premium, quicker tha ICE equivalent cars, that actually cost more, pretty good range and styling that ignores ICE ques and goes straight to what and EV should look like ie and an air sucking and polluting out the back end machine but a clean lined vehicle using the latest headlights etc Better than the current best selling car in the world (The Model Y) (Best selling car, nut just EV with sales looking like hitting 1M this year, overtaking the Corolla) ?? (It is a bit smaller of course). https://thedriven.io/2023/05/26/tesla-model-y-overtakes-corolla-to-be-worlds-best-selling-car-in-2023/#:~:text=EV Sales-,Tesla Model Y overtakes Corolla to,best-selling car in 2023&text=The Tesla Model Y electric, the top of the podium.
  12. Cheers mate, that was a quick response. Unfortunately it is very far from me. Thank you any way.
  13. Once correctly set, I've used a pencil to put marks on the underside of roof bars to put my roof box at the same position each time I use it. A thin Onyx marker would be Ok too.
  14. Thanks, I think I might pop it over to my local mechanic. The nearest fella to me is a good hour away. He's quite "switched on" - the car used to light up like a christmas tree occasionally - cruise control off, cornering lights off, ABS and hill control off, auto start off - tracked to a cracked rear hub and the ABS sensor getting very excited as a result.
  15. They found my water pump leak at MOT, enough to be mentioned on the MOT 'cert'. I put my coolant pressure tester on it cold and it didn't even loose pressure over 60mins, but the drip and staining was deffo there so perhaps leaked only when hot. A lot of Golf forums (where the engine is more common) say to leave it alone as it will 'never get worse' but I couldn't bring myself to do that. Knowing my luck it would go pop while towing the trailer in the middle of the night with the kids and dogs aboard on the side of the A30 Cost me £670 at my local independent, including the parts kit with drive belt etc. Its such a common failure most parts suppliers do a standard parts kit for the job. like you, I could have done without the unexpected cost.
  16. Wonder what their definition of considerable financial support is? Current offer on Karoq is £750 PCP contribution + £249 for a 2year service plan which going on the history of the model, is rubbish. They might double the contribution to make you feel better but that'd still be below the historical average contribution which was probably around the £1750 mark. When I bought mine, it was £2750 + £169 service plan. And the list was a damned site cheaper than it is now and that' before taking into account equipment levels. Look at all the bits and bobs you have to add on these days and then go look at other manufacturers who included these as std even on their base models. And there lies the problem with Karoq which could be the reason for this sales push - they're finding it hard to flog. Can't see many 1st time customers being attracted right now so perhaps the tactic is try current customers. They don't have a full hybrid or PHEV or EV to offer, it's just an old school ICE which they're charging a hefy price for. My view is Skoda have lost their mojo at the moment hence they've found themselves competing with lots more modern options. We're changing down to a smaller car but if I were in the market for a car the same size, a Karoq wouldn't be on my radar. Our car is now 3.5years old and I don't have any complaint with it- it's been a great car. Thing is it's better equipped than the current cars, the latest engine is no different that the one I bought 3.5 years ago so why would I shell out £££'s for another less well equipped Karoq?
  17. Been there & done that with the water pump & thermostat change. In my case some discs & pads were needed at the same time. Bill was around £1k at my independent. It hurts when its an out of the blue necessity. I'm seriously looking at a used Electric car now for my wife & I to use as a daily driver & keep the 280 for long distance / holidays.
  18. From what I’ve seen the INRIX database is about twice the size of the Trafficmaster one, and contains a significant number of B roads. My feeling is their service is probably far superior. INRIX have also been broadcasting a TMC TPEG service on DAB since 2010. I don’t believe Trafficmaster ever progressed beyond FM. Although whether the MIB2H platform is capable of receiving TMC TPEG over DAB is anyone’s guess.
  19. It's possible, I am no expert you understand, that the fuel system is 'toast' , kaput, no good. If I understand you right , you have a Derv ,you a cidently fuelled with Petrol, you would've be the first to have done it, I confess I have. I too accidently put petrol in a Derv. In my older mk 2, I realized very quickly that I had , immediately switched to Diesel filled to the brim. The problem here is the derv fuel system works on a very high pressure system, petrol will ruin it, as soon as you attempt to start the car, even before the engine is turned over, the high pressure system is running. So driving a short distance with petrol, is going to wreck the fuel system. I got lucky I realized my mistake, they say if you mis fuel, don't even attempt to run the engine, have the system drained ,cleaned, and refilled, myself I drove less than 1 km to a friend's house, and asked what to to do, fortunately the old 1.9 PD is a tough old engine, ,....because only put a few litres of petrol I. ,I diluted it with another 55 of Derv, friend said it might run rough, but keep filling it up, it might be ok. That's what happened in the end , it was containimated but it ran fine ,untill I sold it on at 100, ooo miles on the clock. So , I believe that's the case with you, the injectors and high pressure system derv pump is no good, had you dropped and cleaned the tank, you might have be Ok , your 5 km just might have been to much on a tankfull of petrol.
  20. Fair enough but I wondered how many might see your post in this thread, if you don't get a reply(s) from here then perhaps put up a sperate thread on this section asking, or on the Fabia MK2 section, as someone might know the procedure that those nearer to you with VCDS can follow. Good luck.
  21. Thanks. Not everyone knows how to do it, so I thought that I'd ask on here, and if anyone knows how to do it then they could reply to me. I've asked a few people and they're not too sure.
  22. not all superbs have a battery management module
  23. You have to access it from below which means removing the complete centre console section. https://cardiagn.com/skoda-superb-iii-general-body-repairs-interior/
  24. In 2011 the Government were aware of the consequence of loosing RDS-TMC over FM Radio in the document attached. They said "Were the majority of FM stations to broadcast only on DAB today, these millions of navigation units would stop receiving traffic information. The navigation system would still work but would no longer know of congestion, accidents, road works, or other traffic events. Drivers would be less well-informed, and, not knowing of traffic problems, would join, and compound, queues." This requirement to supply traffic information to motorists appears to be the result of a EU directive presumably cast aside after Brexit however the Government saw a need, They tendered for companies to supply the FM RDS-TMC service in the UK and car manufactures paid for a licence. (I don't know if this is the same process in Europe ) FM-Radio is still with us and the move to DAB wasn't completed so the hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of VAG and other cars that are still on the road and will be contributing to the clogging up of the road infrastructure by the inability of the sat nav systems to reroute and miss the traffic jam. Has there been an increase in traffic jams since April 2023? Has anybody contacted their MP about this, after all the system in the UK was requested by the Government so that drivers could be informed about traffic and avoid congestion and pollution, the need is still there. Just a thought......... Traffic_and_Travel_Report_1_.pdf
  25. All sounds wise but still happy to find part number and price if you like.
  26. I’m such a Narna, lol i found the release tab and the slider slipped back and I tried a different slotting it and it clicked in !!! thanks fir your assistance @Breezy_Pete
  27. It's because of the law. The car must start in the mode the emissions were reported. So. Zero emissions.
  28. Thanks Carlston, a very comprehensive explanation.
  29. Buying an at least 20 year old car there are 3 things that matter:- Condition Condition Oh and condition!
  30. Hi, Welcome to the community. The mk1 vrs is missed by many who sell. it’s been a while since I had mine. The 1.8t petrol was fairly bullet proof. It was plagued by coil pack issues back in the day. That will be well sorted by now. the odd leaky boot, and in rain if you opened, any pooling water has a tendency to spill in. good luck on the hunt. The mk1 Octavia forum would be a fab place to start. A lot of topics going back over a lot of years.
  31. Unfortunately correct. However I expect it’s 1 more choice than VAG are likely to give you.
  32. That is for being a member of the community. hopefully we’ll see you back in a skoda. what did you go for instead?
  33. I doubt you'll get a full loom anywhere except Skoda/ TPS. There are several variants so aftermarket suppliers are unlikely to be interested. PM me your VIN and I can tell you part number and Skoda retail price, if you like. One thing you may not be aware of unless you've seen me mention it, is that it's very easy to completely remove the door from the car, massively improving access for a repair using connector repair kits as pictured.
  34. When I did both my front door wiring looms on my fab MK2 I got new ones from my dealer £190 with VAT for both O/S & N/S looms not to bad really. There was some wiring looms kit's in eBay but they looked a bit cheap to me
  35. Having sorted this now, for info to anyone else doing this in future - hard pipe is 3/16 4.75 with a DIN flare. Union is metric M10x1.
  36. They dropped them because as Euro 5's they cheated with defeat devices and the Euro 6 were not going to get the WLTP results required without a cheat so they had to make them 1.6 TDI SCR (Adblue). So 2.0 TDI with less power made sense. A 2.0 TDI 115 ps Golf 7 speed DSG i drove for a week was amazing for fuel consumption, but needed to be put in S at junctions as 1st to 2nd in D was dire. High 70,s MPG was easy and even into the 80,s MPG.
  37. I am back in the fold. Just collected this an hour or so ago. 2.0 TDi.
  38. Dolomite Sprint in Tesco car park. Tesco's seems to be a good place for interesting and unusual cars (for me at least!): Gaz
  39. Hastily taken through the windscreen shot of a 1975 Porsche, at sunset, Beachy Head last night: Would've got out and taken more/closer snaps, but he drove off the wrong way 🙄 Gaz
  40. I will give you a couple of nuggets to reflect on and then maybe the penny will drop with you. The fans will only cut in when the AC pump raises the pressure of the liquid refrigerant above the threshold, they should not cut in as soon as you press the AC switch, the pump has to compress the liquid and bring it up to the threshold pressure. Liquids are incompressible. Air is compressible 💡 R134a is pumped in the liquid state and expands to the gas state in the evaporator creating cooling, I've kept that bit simple it is only to illustrate that a refrigerant gas goes between the two states. If your name was Ian and not Kareems I would think you were the muppet that I tried in vain to explain why it was stupid to pump up the hydrolastic suspension on his girlfriends Mini with a garage airline, I tried but failed, hopefully you will be more receptive. You have now contaminated your system with moisture from the compressed air, the filter drier will need replacing and the system dried with several long vacuum downs. Had you in fact resolved the issue which caused you to be working on and ultimately screw up the AC system?
  41. Just sent this to Audi Genuine Accessories who sell the new maps. Let's see what they have to say. I was considering updating my Audi A6 maps to the latest 4G0060884AN version as I am at the moment running the 4G0060884AK ones. However I have noticed that as from the end of March this year Trafficmaster turned off their RDS-TMC services and as a result I and many thousands of Audi and other VAG Group vehicle owners now have a non functioning Dynamic Navigation feature leaving us unaware of hold ups and with no rerouting from the navigation unit to avoid them. I find this feature which was turned off with no notification to owners extremely useful and would like to know if their are any plans to replace it with the INRIX RDS-TMC service which will continue to operate over Classic FM for at least another eight years. If this is the case new maps containing the INRIX location tables and maybe a firmware update will need to be issued. This is a UK only problem which renders the Dynamic Navigation feature useless on our vehicles and it would be pointless for me to spend 199 Euro on new maps with non functioning RDS-TMC. Please advise.
  42. if YOU had contracted the third party, then yes, BUT it was Audi who contracted a third party to provide the service to YOU. Therefore it IS to do with them.
  43. 1 point
Take a look at the left hand stalk, if it has a limiter fitted then it should have the appropriate icon:
  44. "Black vRS Oct" said, "Thinking of going the smaller wheel route for higher profile tyre & more comfort". Fitting 205/55R16 tyres to wider 7J rims won't be as comfortable as fitting 205/55R16 tyres to narrower 6J or 6.5J rims. If comfort is your goal, perhaps look at 6Jx16 rims with the standard ET50 offset. 6Jx16 ET43 and 6Jx16 ET48 are also available. Fitting a 205/55R16 to a relatively narrow 6J rim, will also help protect the rim from kerbing damage as the sidewalls bulge out quite a bit. To maximise the comfort with a 205/55R16 tyre size, don't over specify the tyres. For example, 205/55R16 91H should be more comfortable than 205/55R16 94V XL, all other things being equal. 46. I also use only google maps. Never used the built-in one even though I have Columbus system.
  47. I think the hardware are the same. You can try navigation for free for one month. I tried it and realized that Google maps and Waze are much better. I didn't see the point of paying so much for built-in navigation, which I would use very rarely.
  48. ETA: - Briskoda VCDS Owners Map (click me) Perhaps , if you want to, you could edit in to your OP a hyperlink to that map/list of VCDS owners who offer help such as 'coding' batteries for those without VCDS, ODIS or similar other battery 'coding' facilities. I struggle to find the list or this thread as I can't see a way to make them a favourite/bookmark/go-to on this site. Cheers.
  49. More than the 3 wires to sort out there.
