  1. My heart bleeds for him.
  2. Just out of interest. I did a little research once into EV's that didn't gather much steam as my retirement was pending. But it came about as there was concern about the safety of EV's in certain environments. In my case the oil & gas industry. The concern was gathering pace due to reported thermal runaway in the battery technology, High voltage circuitry and runaway vehicles. Various stories were emerging but had more speculation than fact regarding causes and likelihood of occurance. However, it did unveil that in the event of an emergency the site would have some unique challenges ahead that hadn't been thought about when granting access to such vehicles. In the light of concern vs actual facts the stance was taken to not grant anymore vehicle passes until the current risk was understood. As in, how many EV's were already onsite on a daily basis and what areas were they travelling in. How could power be isolated if a car became faulty, how would emergency services be able to remove them if they lost power or were severely damaged in an RTI etc because of reports in the automotive industry about electric shock. And so it goes on..... Funny how a change in technology happens and then the world plays catch up. Phase 2 of the stance was to see which of those vehicles needed to be on site and whether total or partial restrictions were suitable. If this Luton airport fire is nothing to do with the EV's (which looks likely) then great but if it is I can see a heightened level of resistance once people start to investigate prevention and mitigation. Incidentally for the record, I'd love to have a Kia Niro EV someday soon.
  3. These are just the trailers for the main feature. I read a chap coming in to land saw two tenders dealing with one car and then... no car park, so that means either bad firefighting or something they could not put out. Question, how long before EV's are banned from multi story car parks? Fiasco coming to a town near you soon.
  4. Yes but it as a job on the side. Is he taking out expenses and then making that sort of money. Fuel / energy and accommodation for the job he is going to or the youtubing while doing it. If it covers all this eating drinking and being a bl00dy moan about doing it that is win win chicken dinner. Or Fish & Chips, All Day Breakfast etc. Graphic Designer / IT / Webpages, all good on the Southern district. It is like e-bay selling as a hobby that actually is a business / self employed.
  5. Hi All, I was on here a few years ago when I owned a stop gap 2002 Fabia estate 1.9 SDI which was a great little generator on wheels. It lasted me 9 months but was very apparent the last owner had 5 years of questionable MOTs with gouges in discs and rotten lower arms which I repaired so when it failed MOT I stuck it on Facebook to get rid of it. Last I knew it had been crashed, written off and was being broken for parts on a Russian website! Roll on a few years and I am back in a 2011 2.0 TDI SE Octavia with 99k miles. I picked it up in the summer from a dealer and I'm the second owner the first being the police where it looks to have been an unmarked dog car. Only a few holes in the dash and glove box from switches etc but a lot of loose/broken or missing trim where it was hastily pulled apart to remove kit before defleet. No real plans apart from drive away at it but a few upgrades along the way. Have stuck an xtrons head unit in, have a leather wheel sitting to replace the worn budget one and picked up and arm rest so far. Always on the lookout for easy nice upgrades and at some point 17" alloys and springs may happen with a light tint!
  6. I did reply to Skoda and suggested they read this thread, I commented that they could come up with a solution but probably simply don't want to.
  7. A diesel car is reported to have started the fire. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-67075159?ns_mchannel=social&ns_source=twitter&ns_campaign=bbc_live&ns_linkname=652676048ae7803bb6842d1f%26What we know so far%262023-10-11T10%3A20%3A57.962Z&ns_fee=0&pinned_post_locator=urn:asset:da8da83c-082c-4784-9a26-0419f41c06e0&pinned_post_asset_id=652676048ae7803bb6842d1f&pinned_post_type=share There was also a Liverpool car park fire in 2018: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-46290095 Statistically, the likelihood of EV being a major factor in spreading the fire in 2018 is very low. Sad to see people are jumping on this and blaming EV's when tightly packed car park fire happens with all cars.
  8. Definitely I asked him how he is going to fix and he said he will replace the oil sump or whatever broken, So, when I went to collect the car,I asked him where is the broken sump or the parts that you replaced, he was mumbling and gave me a part which was not even Skoda parts (I didn't realise it untill someone in this forum pointed it out). I still don't know what was wrong with my engine oil leaking and how this guy fixed it. Anyway, I would like him to do the job, but he is not clearly saying what is he gonna do. as an example, everybody I asked, they said they need to reseal it and also need oil replacing which he didn't mentionat all. he said he can fix it for £120 and also he looked confused as well. As far as i can realise this is a complex job and not normal mechanic is able to do it where as engine oil leaking is their part of expetise. That's why i am reluctent to go to him. I had the mechatronic looked at by a gear especialist yesterday. they said it is leaking from the connector (i guess transmission valve) on the side of the mechatronic where the gear connectiong to the mechatroniic.. it is not leaking from breather. They offered me to replace the whole mechatrone with a brand new one for £1,500 (1year and 12k miles warranty) or reseal for £360 without warranty. So, I am thinking I'll have it sealed with this expert VAG mobile mechanic for £260.
  9. You say it needs 24 Volts where are you going to get that from ? From what you have said I don't think you are confident with car electrics so what I would do is find a good Auto electrician and get them to do it, I know it will cost but would be a lot less than the damage that can be done if you get it wrong
  10. You sure it isn't due to increased energy cost, labour cost, parts supply shortage and opportunistic industry-wide rip off? That is correct. But I don't consider the same insurer increase the increase because why would anyone blindly renew? It had been like this for years, I can always find a better deal by switching, So I switch insurance every year. Some years the amount I pay goes down, some years it goes up.
  11. This is wrong on so many levels... 🤭
  12. Evening sun last night in the SW.

  14. Coolant under pressure can get through a faulty coolant temperature sensor that has become porous @J.R.. Thereafter it is confined within the waterproofing of the connector, except via the gaps between the wire strands of the conductors. Wicks along to other end of wire and through into the connected item at t'other end. Reported more than once on here. I'll try to find an example thread tomorrow if I remember.
  15. I should not have said app, as there is no normal app showing on the phone. But when I go into settings and then apps, I see the AA app in the list there. Then I press on in-app notification settings and the screen with connect a car comes up. Can't find anything to do with a cable data connection in connections either.
  16. When you go into Connected cars in AA on the phone do you see your car? Also, is the "Add new cars to AA" option enabled? If yes to both, my only other suggestion is to clear AA data on the phone and try starting again. Wireless AA works over wifi not Bluetooth and isn't supported on our cars.
  17. I just had a recent battery replacement. I knew about the possibility of errors and faults after a battery change, so I decided to use a secondary battery to power the car while the old battery is being replaced. Simply used a jump lead to put on the terminal in a way it's possible to remove the battery from the car and replace it with a new one. Not a single error message, I didn't even have to set the time. After that with the help of VCDS, I updated the information on the battery stored in the car. Technology, Brand and Serial Number. That was it. To my knowledge, only the battery tech, serial, brand and capacity is what describes the battery for the car. I believe the only actual value you need to change is the serial number. It is enough to increase the number present by 1 at the end to tell the car something changed. If this doesn't solve the problem, it is highly likely something else is wrong with the start-stop system, and will require further diagnostics.
  18. 5Q0511115AH is an increased ride height rear spring, so wouldn't be suitable for a standard ride height car. Here's some suggestions for standard ride height front and rear springs for the Octavia MK3 2.0TDI hatchback DSG VRS. These springs are probably about as stiff as you would want to go on this car without making the ride too hard. Being a VRS it has independent rear suspension, so is always going to handle better than the solid rear axle models. I suspect that like the VRS, the Octavia MK3 1.8TSI 180HP also uses independent rear suspension...along with all 4x4 models. 19. Been there, done that. I used to live in Bridestowe.
  20. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/10/11/london-luton-airport-fire-car-parking-garage-live-updates/ Notice how the fire so easily spread out as though it is flowing liquid? Plastic fuel tanks under a few min of sustained heat will let go and add more fuel to the fire. edit: https://www.bedsfire.gov.uk/news/major-incident-declared-luton-airport
  21. Small update on the Brisk Bambino Bakkie build! Noticed a small issue with the ACC, where the speed was constantly changing and power was being cut (which led to a ridiculously high fuel consumption; 8-9L/100km on a piece of highway that was previously done with 5.5-6L/100km). The guys at Tuning Service Huizen looked at it and found a small error in the registration of the gas pedal sensor/positioning and the amount of torque linked to that positioning, did some magic there and now back to enjoying all the Superb's power! Also had a few modifications done to the electronics of the car, so now the DCC slider has been activated, XDS setting stronger/hard, S3 4motion/quattro setting (more rear-wheel drive oriented), CarPlay navigation and the map in the VC can work simultaneously, update on the Columbus built to 1440 and some other knickknacks here and there. I have ordered some new brakes and surrounding ancillaries to go on the car early November. Will update again once that is done!
  22. This is the official report for the 2018 Liverpool car park fire. https://www.bafsa.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/bsk-pdf-manager/2018/12/Merseyside-FRS-Car-Park-Report.pdf Its conclusion: My takeaway: the fuel tank is only required to contain the flammable liquid for 2 minutes! Which of these related incidents were due to "EV turned a simple car fire into a disaster"?
  23. Have now got Koni Special Active on my passat and had Bilstein B6 on my octavia. I'll be going for B6 next time round. The Konis are just not supportive enough even with lowering springs.
  24. Exactly that. The Boomtown festival I mentioned in 2016. Very few, if any, EVs. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/boomtown-fair-music-festival-fire-hampshire-evacuated-80-cars-destroyed-a7189156.html This video was originally about breaking the transmission of Corona but I guess it could equally apply to cars catching fire in close proximity to each other. Snapinsta.app_video_754C3BB044ACB73BEFC63CD2A4FD7E96_video_dashinit.mp4
  25. A few years ago at the Boomtown festival in Hampshire dozens of cars caught fire after just one caught fire. It's the proximity to each other not the propulsion type. Very few, if any, were EVs.
  26. My motor trade insurance broker of 40 years, dropped his A4 in this morning (usual rear wiper motor failure) and I asked him. He said yes partly because modern cars are so complex but also because an EV, if it gets hit, is written off by the insurer for far less damage due to the complexity of moving a damaged EV around, insurers are naturally risk averse. I should imagine Luton Airport will concentrate their minds. He also said that instead of getting a new A4 every three years as he has done since 95, he is sticking with his 2 Litre petrol I convinced him to buy three years ago to get out of Diesel.
  27. Just received this from Skoda Support, shame they don't read this forum to find out what has really happened and what is actually possible: Dear *********, Thank you for your patience, and we are sorry for the inconvenience. The Škoda relevant department would like to inform you that the service you are referring to, i.e. the TMC service over FM RDS radio services, is provided by a third party. According to the information available to us, the UK TMC service provider has ended broadcast of TMC on the British territory over FM RDS radio services. On some vehicles, traffic services can continue to be received online via Infotainment Online services, as well as by use of third-party online navigation on the display using Apple CarPlay/Android Auto with either free to use services (e.g. Google maps / Apple maps) or many other alternative providers using a subscription. Unfortunately, our company is not able to influence such decisions of third parties in any way. Kindly accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused to you. We hope that within this answer the complaint will be resolved to your full satisfaction, and you will continue to favour the ŠKODA brand. With kind regards, Support for Digital Services ŠKODA AUTO a.s T: 00800 80 247 247 *****@*****.tld, www.skoda-auto.com
  28. Hello ApertureS, I appreciate your answer, do you think you can share with me the repair manual? It will be very helpful for me. Best, Bogdan
  29. Reached out to my dealer and he's come back to me this morning to advise that my car has been assigned a predicted week 46 build date. Not heard a thing. I'm 10 weeks into my wait which was estimated at 20 weeks when I placed the order.
  30. @@Lee There you go, I got it right for you, I must admit that I was puzzled that your avatar came up differently. I'm sorry I never realised it before, perhaps others will also get it right now 👍
  31. One day people will realise my username is @Lee so to tag me it's @@Lee If people think they've tagged me and I'm being rude for not replying it's because they tagged the wrong user. My At-At gif profile pic wasn't an accident. The actual @Lee is gonna one day wake up to a **** ton of notifications. Funnily enough I once met him and he also had a blue Rapid. But his was from the 80s and had a Rover K series engine in it. 🤣 Android 11 from 2020. Still one of the most popular versions I believe. I've had no problems with any apps including the Ookla speed test app I reinstalled tonight to get that screenshot. Carista updated the last month when I needed it after not using it for a few years. NHS app still works as does my HMRC account app. Both banking apps fine SM apps fine etc etc. Obviously mine is still more than just a phone and a camera. After I leave my laptop in the evening it's my means of surfing, shopping on Amazon etc and even streaming direct to the TV. Nothing that worked when I first bought it doesn't still work now. It's not slow either. I once had forty odd tabs in the Chrome browser in the background. Personal info redacted
  32. Canton was an optional extra for me when I ordered Jan 2021, it's not in all VRSs
  33. AHhh, dammit Ill install a switch in the front to turn it on then, just needs a 24v to activate the reverse and I can pick that up from the fuse box. Its not a camera per se its a rear view mirror front and back camera (Wolfbox G900), the reversing comes as as part of it. Thanks anyway
  34. Up in lakes for a few days
  35. Page 34, halfway down. More effort required. Tube is not a term of endearment in Scotland........
  36. Hawco has confirmed I will receive a new filter, oil and clutch calibration if needed as its a DQ250 box. Bitz quoted the same price Toots.
  37. An excellent video, now that is a presenter that I am happy to listen to unlike all the click bait narcissists.
  38. Lovely evening earlier..........
  39. I wish a Golf R's engine with 320bhp and 4 wheel drive. A 55 L fuel tank, sturdier seats and quicker infotainment system or system in general.
  40. Another one here for Michelin Cross Climates. I'm up on top of the Pennines, they've lasted approx 30 - 35K. They offer superb cold weather & wet weather grip and were quieter than the set of Bridgestones my Golf GTE came on
  41. Tremendously bright Moon this evening .............
  42. Thank You all for your responses. Eventually we did get a car that had 56k miles (2015 1.4TSi) - and previous owner changed the belt at 32k - so we are safe now - as EnterName mentioned maybe take the approach - "if in doubt, change it" - luckily we don't need to. Anyway, thank you all. jakk
  43. Update. Ignition leads changed and it's running like a formula one car. Can't believe what difference new plugs and leads make.
  44. Skoda / VW UK service interval is 4 years / 40,000 miles. That does not mean they need replacing then, but if they do they do, and yours might. Armoured lead threads and mis-firing TSI treads are common on here. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/495806-ht-lead-skoda-fabia Run the car in the dark and open the bonnet and see if there is a 'light show'.
  45. Can no longer view the listing but this was the title, the cost was £7.95 for 5, I have an optimistic memory!! Indexa Hlr-16X51 Red Die Spring - Heavy Load - Pack Of 5 ( 142644293618 ) And for the bonnet strut I bought a pair for £7.28 including 2 different sets of ball end fittings M6 and M8 but people seem happy to pay the Superskoda price. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/18021615666?iid=132708377524
