  1. Oh, forgot to mention (and back on topic), I have new car on my drive . Pishing down and dark. SO it's wrapped up safe and sound for several days, when I will finish some work I've got and can have a proper play. It's like unwrapping your Christmas presents and being told to "now put them down until new year"
  2. Just a wee story / option for anyone who's been told their discs need replacing: Despite having had a pre-MOT check and then serviced, I was caught like a rabbit in headlights when the MOT centre called to say the car had failed due to warped discs. So what do you do? The easy option is to ask the centre, in this case a fast-fit centre, to replace the rear discs and pads. If you're willing to part with over £300 that is. Another option is to take the car to Skoda who in my case wanted £372 to replace them. Another option is to go to local garages who in my case were wanting £430 to change them. Hmm, I don't think so. I'm advised that with an MOT failure you're allowed to drive the car home and up to 10 days before you can have a free re-test. I'm allowed to drive the car to have it repaired and back to the MOT test. I chose to drive back home and have time to think. The parts from named brands such as Bosch and Brembo etc came to around £115 so does it cost £200 and above for labour? I asked several Fast-Fit centres what was their fitting charge if I supplied the parts? All of them said they were unable to do this as they couldn't provide a warranty. OK, I don't want your warranty - how much? They said they were unable to offer me that service. In most cases they were supplying discs from manufacturers I'd never heard of ( cheap as chips ? ). Then I had a brain wave... buy the parts from Halfords online, have them delivered to the store and get Halfords autocentre to fit them 👍. Great theory... " Sorry but we can only fit parts supplied by us." But it's the same parts? " Sorry, no can do." What about local garages? There were a few who would accept me supplying the parts but all wanted at least 3wks notice. Obviously that wasn't an option unless I could do without my car for 3wks and pay for another MOT. But then I came across a service I had no idea existed. Europarts was one of the lowest priced suppliers, but they now also have a service where they can deliver the parts to a named garage on their list. You buy the parts from Europarts and then you pay the garage direct. So I gave that a go. You enter your postcode and up pops the nearest 20 odd garages on their list. In my case I was quoted from £66 - £180 labour. I selected the most convenient garage who were charging £72. I wasn't confident it'd all work smoothly but it did. All garages were able to fit the parts within 48hr of me ordering them. ( a few were 24hr if the parts were in stock at their local Europarts centre ). The parts with a discount code came to £107. I handed over £70 and was searching for coins when the guy said forget it. ( garages always prefer cash ). And that's it. Car has passed it's MOT, it now has Bosch rather than the OEM chedder cheese discs and pads and it cost £177 in total. So if you're after using good quality parts and don't have the facility or skills to do the job yourself, the Europarts option is defo worth a consideration. It was certainly a hell of a lot cheaper than using local / main dealer / fast-fit centres.

This photo was taken on a recent trip to the west coast of Scotland. 71 plate Skoda Karoq Sport Line 1.5 TSI DSG in metallic Race Blue.
  4. Yes, Clock time is set to Automatic but it’s the Timezone and DST that are manually selected. Seems crazy to me when the car knows exactly where it is (GPS) and has an active internet connection that it can’t determine the correct time for that location.
  5. I have a vague recollection we had a plastic board type affair over the distributor and electrics on our Austin 1100 and 1300 too...
  6. My brothers 1972 Mini Clubman estate had the board fitted in production, as did my 1983 Mini 1000 saloon.
  7. Probably Philip Schofield will get the gig
  8. No, they have oil pressure switches. Simple things that just short a wire to earth at a given pressure. Not able to give a pressure reading.
  9. I think the news reported correctly. Hangry presenter with a temper, missed his food slot and took it out on an underling (although he was quite a senior person that Clonkson thumped). 100% Clonkson fault, he behaved in an appalling manner. I'd have pressed charges if he had done that to me. I wish he hadn't done it though, as most importantly, he shouldn't have hit another person, but also because it deprived me of a show I loved. Even my mum, who couldn't drive and couldn't care less about cars, enjoyed the show.
  10. Had full timing chain kit and waterpump changed, with coolant and oil change £1800 all in.
  11. Hello everyone i applicated left foot ( free foot paddle) and gas-break paddle set to my car. Here iş the Picture. My car iş Skoda scala 2022
  12. Has anyone found a way to automatically set the timezone and/or daylight savings settings? I find frustrating that in a modern 'connected' car this is a manual process. Even my 1990s Cavalier updated itself for summertime.
  13. I checked my car earlier and it hadn't switched back to GMT from BST, it's nothing major to do, but it should do it automatically, everything with a clock in our house, bar 2 analogue wind up clocks and cooker do it themselves
  14. OK, fair point. But the car has an eSIM so it is connected to the mobile network, that alone is sufficient to set time & DST - every smartphone does it.
  15. I did just buy a second one for my Pug
  16. I know TDI150 is like a camel but 15,5l for 15000miles seems really low. Great performance! Happy for you. My average AdBlue consumption is 0.12l/100km over 100000km. TDI190 (+dead weight due to Haldex system) is a bit greedier, espacially if one has lead sole with gas pedal… 😂
  17. Here's an interesting thing. So my Jaaaag has some pretty old software and hardware in it and therefore doesn't have wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, but does have a wired connection, so I bought a dongle to help with this. I got the AAWirelss Android Auto (not 'that' AA and I think it’s also available for Apple) retails for about £60. Simply plug it into the car's USB connector, wait a minute or so while everything boots up for the first time and pair your phone as you would with a wireless Android Auto connection. That's it! and you seem to have full functionality. Not noticed any bugs yet, only time will tell. I'll buy one for my Peugeot which is similarly afflicted here is a link to the badger... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B71XC7VG?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
  18. Yep. Me as well. Brakes are a favourite to con people into parting with their hard earned. 'It's a safety issue innit sir/ madam'. Customer can't actually see the disk or pad for themselves and take the testers word for it and stump up because they don't want to be without their car and are led to believe things could be worse.
  19. The burning question is - did those rear discs and pads really need replacing? No information of miles covered - but a three year old vehicle (1st MOT?) - I'm finding that a little difficult to swallow. Given the vehicle had passed a pre-test and had a service, I'd be asking for a second opinion.
  20. The display shows how much Adblue (or DEF) you can/should put in, the car display suggests 15.5 litres:
  21. I have the 150 TDI EVO engine with DSG7.
  22. I'm another that got the 1941 files here but never got around to doing the update. Then today, I got the OTA update notification. I assume it'll be "grand".....

At least your sorted and back on the road safely.
  24. Yes. By reasonable, I mean for the jobs required and once you factor the parts required for those jobs at a guess probably near £900 if genuine. Possibly even £1000. Then that's £800 or £900 left for Labour. And they are two quite time consuming jobs. But it is a lot of money in my eyes, maybe not to the manufacturers. All in the name of expected durability. All expected sir. Just swallow it... Beyond 5 or 6 years you're on your own - sky is the limit..
  25. Thanks Ords, will try and have a look at this later and report back.
  26. @Rooted I don't have an oil pressure issue I was just wondering why it wasn't displayed but thanks anyway
  27. ... except on the van, my brothers 1970 Mini van still had the sliding windows (yes the upgrade from a van to a Clubman Estate 2 years later was very welcome!).
  28. Superb and Octavia boot is similar, a good chunk of the extra space in a Superb is in rear leg room. Given that, the Superb is much nicer for rear seat passengers and kids seats etc and as the kids grow it will be more of an issue. My 12 year old is 1m80 already and struggles in the Karoq (same as Ateca) and is fine in the Superb. If you want power, look at a 280/272 Superb which while it wont have 'sharp' handling it will be plenty quick enough for most people. The 220 is pretty quick too.
  29. I think they started switching over to wind up from 68/69
  30. I doubt that I have spent that amount in total for all my repairs and servicing in 40 years of motoring including tyres. The 7 years before that were buying, doing up and selling bangers at a profit every month so I did not include them because in fact the net cost of those repairs cost nothing and generated a profit. Equally I did not include the money I spent on repairing the various write offs I have bought and run for years. It's a different world out there and much of what I read scares me in terms of what is seen as reasonable motoring expenses these days 😒
  31. Nice pickup! I'm fairly similar to yourself. Queenslander but living in Tassie now. Previously had a Kona Turbo but upgraded to a Superb Sportline just last month.
  32. Mine was a 71 pre Clubman with the wind up windows and concealed door hinges but had been really messed around with, it may have been removed, I was sceptical that such a small shield would work compared to all the elaborate aftermarket fetishwear but it worked perfectly in the worst conditions.
  33. I had a 2021 car and now have a 2023 and the ambient lighting never even crossed my mind as an issue
  34. This means that the auto closing did not activate! When washing, when the key is nearby, the water activates the sensor on the door handle.
  35. If only Clonkson hadn't been an aggressive bully when fuelled by drink, we would possibly still have proper TG. I wonder if he has mellowed a bit now he is a farmer and could go back to the Beeb with the gang?
  36. The Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc era needs to have all the tapes destroyed IMO It started getting better with Paddy McGuiness/ Harris and Flintoff but yeah, Clarkson, Hammond and May were the best years.
  37. Petes posting of how to do it was excellent, as I read it I thought what great advice regarding the photo for the belt run because I got it wrong the first time but it looked absolutely correct and I could not initially see any other way that it could be run. Seeing both the photos compared to the obstructed vision I had its very clear to me now what I did!
  38. I get your frustration with your dealer but I certainly don't get "is it any wonder Skoda UK is 71% poor customer service" after you've just written "Had to call skoda direct who were very helpfull" 🤪 Isn't your problem with your dealer Arnold Clark ( say no more ! ) rather than Skoda? You also say you could have got a mk2 2024 car. Yes you could, but the order books haven't even opened yet and you're making an assumtion that wouldn't be going thru the exact same production delivery issues. If the car is already waiting at the port in Germany, what makes you think it'll be 2024 before you see it? It may well be but on average, the car will be available a month from now. You say you were promised by the dealer? How can anyone 'promise' something they have no control over? If the car had already been built and on their premises then yes they can make promises, but if all you did was order a new car then then you've been taken in by 'sales patter'. or you've mis-understood. I've never known a dealer to 'promise' a delivery date rather they'll say we expect it to arrive / be delivered to you around xyz. What I'm reading here has nothing to do with Skoda and everything to do with Arnold Clark. Your contract is with Arnold Clark, not Skoda. Yes you have right to be upset - you also have the right to tell Arnold Clark to stuff his car if it wasn't delivered when they said it would be. What does it say on your order form? Does it give you an estimated delivery date? For future reference, if you want a guaranteed delivery date then buy a car that's already in stock and not one that hasn't been built. That's true for any car you buy - from Audi to Zagonda, from Dacia to Rolls Royce.
  39. Skoda might be reading this thread - I just looked and all the standard Kamiqs have disappeared! I very nearly ordered a cancelled one but the dealer only realised it had an electric boot after several conversations, and then wouldn't swallow the difference in cost. I think electric boots have quite a big "wow" factor, but they're a can of worms if they go wrong (and they do) so I certainly wouldn't pay extra for it. That car is still listed.
  40. This makes more sense to me, more wraparound on little alt pulley Both 1.2 12 valve. BME superseded AZQ at end of 2004.
  41. You can have them professionally refurbished to the Original colour. I assume this was a used car you bought since the wheels were refurbed by KERB SIDE autos for some dealer / trader. The finance company do not even know the original colour or the state of the wheels on the car they financed. If you want the car nice while you have it then get the wheels done properly and return the car with better wheels than it came to you. Just do not get some outrages colour on them.
  42. 1 point
    One can’t compare a Kamiq and a Superb…
  43. 1 point
I have a friend in the industry & he doesn't think Estate cars will come back anytime soon. "Nobody buys them", hence why many companies dont offer them anymore. It's why I'm clinging onto the superb and Octavia as long as I can.
  44. You dont have to readapt anything, just clean it. You can readapt if you have VCDS, but not necessary.
  45. Thank you! Got it in Moon White (metallic)
  46. What didnt work about the ebay ones? Because as much as there may be a chance that they came out the box faulty - the more likely scenario is that there is a fault that isnt the boot struts and thats why it didnt fix it by fitting new ones. Have you got the fault codes or more specific about the cause of the fault? Also - if it helps i can get genuine electric boot struts for £900 or so (inc VAT)
