  1. I've just handed mine back after 3 years leasing it. Like other people on here, It was also probably the best car I've ever had. Was so quiet and refined and drove so well. Was always amazed at the fuel economy, like others regularly got high 50s mpg. One of the only gripes I had was there was so many creaks, rattles and squeaks that did my head in and the dealership wouldn't do anything about. Unfortunately I wasn't able to keep it or buy it after the lease. Also the cost has went up so much it was well over my limit to get another one. I will really miss it.

Just had an email back from the service manager at my local Skoda, they’ve sent me the invoice on what work was done to the car. when I collected it they wouldn’t tell me what was wrong as I’ve mentioned above and had previously said they haven’t had anything in with these bolts coming loose and only the odd car with the seals going bad. ill attach the section of the invoice I was sent to show work done but you’ll see that one of the bits of work was “ Removal of broken stud in cylinder head” and then later a repair kit so to me it would seem that the bolt did shear it’s head and others come loose. maybe this is why they didn’t I wasn’t given any info on what was done when I collected the car but who really knows.
  3. This is an extremely big assumption to make. You assumed: 1. BEV are more or similarly likely to catch fire, which current stats doesn't support. 2. BEV fire spread the same as running fuel fire seen in multistory car park, this is unlikely. 3. BEV vehicle propagate and catch fire at same rate or faster than ICE vehicle. This is unproven. I think you are not understanding the meaning of per mile stats. This is the data source wording, as referreced by the Guardian article: https://www.tesla.com/VehicleSafetyReport Total miles travelled by this fuel type of vehicle <divided by> All fire event for this fuel type This method is inclusive of the fact there's more of one type of vehicle.
  4. They don’t have the rear lights strips in the doors. It’s a big shame as the kids are always disappointed about it. also the promotional models showed prior to the mk4 release had them, even the early brochures listed them, but none of the cars came with them. must have been a last minute decision to not include them at release. the vrs does have coloured lights in the rear footwells though, and illuminated door handles in the rear
  5. Vehicle excise duty is set by politicians. Logic and consistency should not be expected.
  6. Jesus, has it been that long?! Anyway, returned to swimming since then, then stopped again. Tonight was my first night back, and I've signed up for the monthly pass. I've decided to go on Monday evenings and a Wednesday morning/evening (dependent on working hours). They offer a lot of different time slots, thankfully. Missed the swimming, so it's nice to be getting back in the way of it.
  7. Just checked mine as I couldn't remember, the rear doors do not have the led lights - it may be different for other markets but I doubt it somehow...
  8. Running the engine after normal driving is not required unlike old school turbo engines. However, if you've been giving it a caning right before you get to your detination then it should be run for a minute after stopping. In most conditions, say after a long out of town trip where you might have been giving it a bit of welly, the reality is that by the time you've driven through town/the suburbs to get to your house the engine has already cooled sufficiiently. This is from the owners manual: Risk of engine overheating! ▶ Do not switch the engine off immediately at the end of your journey after the engine has been running at high loads. Leave it to run at an idling speed for about 1 minute.
  9. Thank you very much for replying and apologies for taking so long to come back to you. In the end I didn't move forward with purchasing this car, the dealership were a PITA in regards to moving forwards with the purchase/questions asked etc. I looked around and managed to come across a 2019 Fabia Estate Monte Carlo at a pretty good price so went with that instead. Full service history, and was from an approved dealership so 12 month warranty etc vs the 3 months the other dealership were offering. So now to trawl this website and find out as much as I can about everything. Thank you again for your advice, it definitely helped with my next steps regarding this car!
  10. Roof colour 2G Exterior colour/paint code 2G/F8L. Says the VIN.
  11. You don't say that you have tried new bulbs; have you?
  12. I just sat in the car and tried the double press. It does work to disable the sensors, so if that's the problem then this is an easy way to avoid the problem, just pressing twice to lock. I have locked it and will see what happens for the rest of the day. If it is the sensors at fault, I will also try the infotainment option to see if that means I no longer have to push twice. Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate it.
  13. Relevant section from a November 2019 owners manual: If it does turn out to be the interior sensors, it might be worth cleaning them as dust etc can build up causing false activations.
  14. I think a double press of the fob deactivates the interior sensors and theres a button on the bottom of the door pillar that deactivates them ,just incase thats what causing the issues ,worth a try .
  15. We had this in our Paris and other cities EV car schemes. We were using solid state batteries so technical safer rather current Lithium ion and even Lithium Iron Phosphate, were use Lithium Metal Polyamide and Super Capacitors but there were some car fires. Fire investigators found that homeless persons were breaking in to the cars sat on their charging stalls and making a little fire to keep warm inside the car in the cold Paris nights. Not good in a car body that was composite as I recall. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolloré_Bluecar Estimated we lost 25 cars to vandals. Damn those mid European nomads.
  16. Or Per 100,000 vehicles from Sweden. But then there is the instances of arson that can skew the figures.
  17. Just to advise i managed to source a Skoda branded DAB capable head unit from ebay (1ST 035 869 A) and found a fitter fairly locally who could do the coding to the car.. Showed anti-theft component protection when first powered on and he had to do some sort of re-auth online to turn this off. Fitted an after market DAB antenna to the windscreen and now have full DAB as per manufacturer. Antenna install was easy enough. just had to remove pillar trim and side trim from passenger dashboard and could then route DAB cable straight through to where the head unit was located. Worth the effort in the end.
  18. Afternoon fellows, I had an issue in my MK3, the problema appears from one day to another. The offical dealer told me it's neccesary to change all the steering column and this cost around 3k€ (pieces) + 600€ (work). I hope someone could told me if have any clue about the issue or something to check. Here is the link to the video&audio: https://youtube.com/shorts/nU-TDXjdGVw?si=5j5fWUK7x-bYIDBx https://youtube.com/shorts/qOnbm1uc2FY?si=LI2OFBhvxMoEz1FX Kind regards and thank you so much!
  19. Just got a 120L for a fair price with just minor things to get it running. excitingly waiting for the winter!
  20. The 1.6 is a fairly low power engine. And the S3 is a fairly large car. I note that you are in Cornwall. Could suffer a bit on those steep hills you have. If you desperately need a diesel I'd be looking at the 2.0 if possible. If not then the 2.0 petrol is a very good engine. That all being said it sounds like you have found a reasonable car. As long as it's not a dsg you could do worse.
  21. There are four tail light bulbs per side, arranged in a ‘C’ shape. The upper section is brake / tail. Earlier models used a 21/5W twin filament bulb, later models (including your 2009) should have a single filament 21W bulb, the car regulating the voltage depending on the required output. The middle two bulbs are 3W (W3W). If you use 5W they may work but they often bring on the blown bulb warning and blacken quickly. The lower section is the same as the brake / tail but fog / tail instead, the fog being enabled for offside only.
  22. Clicking could be clock spring? Rubbing noise sounds like back of the steering wheel rubbing on the column plastic covers?
  23. I don't know about the superb. I suspect it being a more upmarket luxury model may have this feature that the octavia misses. Maybe someone with a superb can comment.
  24. Yes another fully synthetic oil too. 😄 Not that I expect anyone to believe other than what they want to, this is is the internet after all, but I emailed Millers Oils and they replied "you would have no issues using a fully synthetic product". I also emailed Mutol (a French company owned by a lady IIRC what the chap told on their stand at the NEC a couple of years back) but no reply yet from Mutol. I think you want Fuchs for a German connection. Or go Polish Czech to get a bit nearer Skoda than VW. BTW Duckhams might be a British brand but IIRC it is part of Moove which is Comma (Brazilian), Comma also made the Halfords, Wilco and their own name Classic Motor oils, all green in colour, like Duckhams famously was, IIRC.
  25. I think from my memory only the front when I've looked back at the rear doors to check I haven't seen them, which is a shame. I'll re check for you when I'm in the car next and get back as soon as i can. I believe mine is that model that you're referring to.
  26. Sidelights are just the tiny standard 501 type bulbs, 2 minute job to change. They have their own housing on each light unit. Check the Octavia MK3 all bulb replacements video guide on IAMASPANNER channel on youtube, it's one of the first ones he shows.

  28. Welcome. You need to become a freedom member to sell and then you can start a post here: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/333-wheels-tyres-for-sale/ Freedom lite is just £6 for the year: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/subscriptions/ Pretty sure there used to be a selling only freedom tier bit I can't see it anymore.

The repair was at no cost me but I do have a warranty on the car so I’d say that paid for it.
  30. Welcome to Karoq ownership! Hope you will be happy with your new Skoda. Im on my 2nd Skoda, and I have never bought the same car twice in all my years of car ownership.
  31. Good response, I can respect this and your views. I agree nothing much can be gained through this. The only thing I couldn't stand was your wording. It reads as though you are the authority and you can predict what will happen. So I felt compiled to point out assumptions you've made along the way and statements that are not yet proven to be true. Sorry if it reads as though I am dismissive of your views.
  32. I know you said you charged the battery overnight but your symptoms are typical of a battery that reduces its terminal voltage too far when cranking. Try using jump leads to another car when starting just to rule out the battery.
  33. The sidelight bulbs in my Octavia with Bi-Xenon headlights are W5W halogens.
  34. Sometimes I need some rest, too You have download link on PM.
  35. Welcome to your new rs. I use the voice control a lot for climate control; things let “set temperature to 20 degrees “, “my feet are cold”, or “the passenger is too hot”; also can use things like “my seat is cold”. Radio and media playback works well too. I still haven’t got the navigation voice control worked out so I usually get my passenger to set it or do so before driving off. The additional ambient lighting can be bought through the online shop; easier using a web browser on a PC or phone.

@Gary1320 OK. I recently bought an SD card with the latest maps for my head unit from the store linked below. That said, I think you can download the maps and create your own SD card from the link I previously gave you. https://www.satnavishop.co.uk/

But still something that should be capable of either being avoided or modulated by the driver, I appreciate that the ECU can and does do so and that yours was either defective or incorrectly programmed but surely every driver should be capable of safely controlling their vehicle in the worst of winter conditions on standard tyres with all the driver aids turned off? Or is that an unrealistic explanation from a previous generation? I do understand that modern heavy overpowered FWD vehicles on stupidly large an widewheels make the above much more of a challenge but frankly that is how one should hone their skills in a safe area away from other traffic. With every new car I have the first thing I do when snow or ice is around is to go out and play to learn the vehicles responses at its limits with the 3 letter acronyms turned off, granted its with very delicate control inputs these days.

  39. No, it was almost certainly a different engine but for most of the diesels with the alternator at say 14.00 and the AC pump at 17.00 the run is similar, the best explanation that I can give you is the one I did before:
  40. I love the DSG gearbox, the big wheels, it handles well enough for me. The fuel economy is very satisfactory, The seats are amazingly comfortable (Monte Carlo) my only concern was the lack of boot space for tool kit , tyre inflator etc. BUT with the seats down I got 2x 290 litre bags of pruned shrubbery in the back plus a couple of rubble bags.

  42. I have to agree with @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits, the sound I like is completely different to what my brother likes and what my SO likes.

  44. You have to turn it on in the infotainment. Just go in and look for the tick box.

A piccy of your wheels would help with identifying them ...
  46. Whoa that’s big money, low miles! I can afford this one
  47. Yes, various owners say different things about timing chains.. In my opinion I think the car surely worths and with such low mileage..
  48. Hello, As car is under such low mileage, it's too early to face any major issues. From my experience as having the same model, have in mind the turbos usually fail (wastegate actuator) on that CAXA engines and despite of replacing whole unit, you can search for specialized techs that can repair it. Also the timing chain is suspicious to start sounding (when engine cranking) and this is supposed to be after 150+ km.. Others have reported injector failures but in my country and as far as I know lots of persons owning the same, it is said that this is a rare thing. Generally this engine is very good when combining power and fuel efficiency. In my opinion this 1.4 matches most the character of this family car. I'm at 210+ km since 2009, and I have remained very satisfied. I've made lots of transformations, including LPG kit (STAG) since early 2022.
  49. If your car has ACC it wont have standard cruise as well. I believe it's one or the other. You will get used to it. It's 'Superb' 🙂
