  1. I'm a rubbish photographer but anyone still up really ought to go outside and look up! This is the Aurora Borealis from my house in Eastbourne, happening right now: Gaz
  2. Interesting how "We're literally boiling the planet!!!" is somehow less of an issue when there are jobs at risk in an election year. 😄 Apparently we are NOT in an existential crisis after all. Who knew, eh?
  3. After some convincing from a fellow Skoda friend, with a good recommendation - I finally decided to pull the pin (after a few years of ummm'ing and arrr'ing) and put in LED globes in Gandalf's headlights. I already had Phillips xTremeVision Gen2 D3S globes in there, been almost 4 yrs now. These new ones r J.W.Speaker D3S LED bulbs. 5700K, 4500 Lumens. Plug n Play. Initial thoughts - they're definitely more brighter. Fitment is good, just like the normal xenon bulb. Headlight beam is good, both high and low. Fans r a bit noisy, u can hear them with just accessories turned on, and the headlight back cover off. Not in a bad annoying way. With the engine on, u don't hear it. Happy with it. Fingers crossed that it lasts the distance now. Comparison below - top is Phillips xTremeVision Gen2 D3S xenon bulb, bottom is J.W. Speaker D3S LED. 4. Lift off!! This was Gandalf in MechWarrior mode a few months ago when I got the wheels changed.
  5. I went a bit left field, and have ended up with this: 2010 Volvo V70 D3 SE Lux. One owner from new (the seller), 33k miles, FVSH (Main Dealer), new battery and the only thing I could fault it on was slight perishing on the front tyres. And it was only three miles away 😎 it did 299 miles between its 2022 and 2023 MOT's - selling because it's not being used. All MOT's passed except for one in 2016 for tyre wear on one tyre. All journeys were long trips picking kids up from Uni, no short trips. I can get my mobility scooter in the back (seat off), with my folding bike, and not need to have the rear seat down 👍 Needs a good clean, but doesn't want for anything else. We'll most likely keep the Golf and sell the Polo. Don't need three cars. Gaz
  6. Trip to Beamish. Took the R3 and a 24-105 lens. A bit overkill for sightseeing tbh. Went a bit mad with the processing.
  7. I've cleaned and polished the car inside and out ready for our trip of just over three weeks across Europe to Lithuania. We leave in 11 days time, but as rain is forecast for most days until we leave and I have a hospital appointment next week, I thought I'd better do it while the sun shines. I washed the outside on Thursday and planned to polish it today (Saturday) but I had to wash it again today! On Friday, the wall behind the car was painted and although I parked on the road away from the house, the painters produced a lot of dust cleaning the wall prior to painting it and the car ended up covered in dust. I know it's not as detailed as many on here do it, but at 72 I'm happy with what I've achieved.

I think it's been posted before, but here is the beautiful Color Line blue model: Color Line: based on the LX, comes with the 2 color paint variations: Yellow Fun and Laguna Blue metallic, sold in the year 2000, upholstery fabric on seats and doors with a "Crown" pattern, 4 arm steering wheel, door handles, mirrors were painted in the color of the car, standard equipment included fog lights, split rear seats, tinted windows, special feature you can additionally buy was the "Harlekýn" color concept of seats.
  9. Quite possible that the recent oil change was slightly short of a complete fill.
  10. It is normal for an engine to use a small quantity of oil - provided the usage does not exceed specifications, there is nothing to worry about. Some engines may appear to not use oil between oil services, but small usage is normal.
  11. When this crisis was first known, probably back in the 1970's If planning permission for all new buildings had insisted upon South facing roofs, solar panels and battery banks we would be self sufficient. Yet we still don't do that today
  12. leaving the above to one side we don't even have the ability to be self sufficient in feeding ourselves (or clothing ourselves)
  13. even if correctly adjusted as of 2021 you would still fail a UK MOT simply for having them in a housing not designed for them. Other countries regulations may differ https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/special-notice-01-21-headlamp-conversions https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-private-passenger-and-light-commercial-vehicles/4-lamps-reflectors-and-electrical-equipment#section-4-1-4 Existing halogen headlamp units on vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp for light source and lamp not compatible. This does not refer to complete replacement headlamp units which may be constructed with HID or LED light sources. If a complete headlamp unit has been replaced with a unit that was manufactured with HID or LED light sources, it must not be failed for ‘Light source and lamp not compatible’ but it must meet all other requirements detailed in section 4 of this manual specific to the type fitted at the time of test.
  14. It's looking promising again for tonight so we'll be having a dry night and trying again...
  15. OMG! These LED bulbs can make appear a workmate and a full set of tools in my garage? Where can I buy them? I'll order them right now! 😃 ... Sorry 😁.
  16. The EU want to do the same because they want to be Green but forgot that they actually do not have the Materials for Batteries and even building cars from within the EU or Europe, or the bit of Europe that Putin does not control or is trying to take over. Then as it is they do not have enough of the energy in the way of Gas, Oil or Electricity to run the factories or the vehicles already on the roads without it coming from outwith the EU. China and much cheapness products has been suiting customers but obviously not Manufacturers in the EU and the Governments that these hugely wealthy industries have spent spent spent on pretending to be green.
  17. Mrs Gaz has gone to bed, but I’m buzzing. I can hardly believe what I’m seeing!! Those pics are just from my iPhone 😎
  18. Me too gaz in yorkshire
  19. Find a good Indy, most main dealers overcharge and over rated. At the age and mileage value unlikely to be affected, most people want to see receipts rather than a dealer printed record.
  20. I’ve been lurking around these forums for several years via internet searches, time to declare myself! So I’m now onto my 2nd “previously owned” Octavia 1Z TDI “Estate” as you call them (in Australia it’s a “station wagon”). Such a practical and fuel-efficient vehicle, I couldn’t stand the thought of shifting to some other vehicle after previous one became uneconomic to repair - clutch going, airbag sensor gone, plus other minor ailments then horrendous knocking from within the engine: lights out… Local mechanics charge a premium to work on European cars here and despite the increasing number of VWs and Skodas on the roads it’s hard to source after-market or reconditioned & parts from wreckers. There’s always the intake of breath between their teeth and dollar signs flash in their eyes when you tell ‘em it’s a Skoda… This is HiLux Heaven don’t you know? My first Škoda was a Roomster 1.9 TDI, best form-factor & efficiency ever for my needs, they never sold many in Oz coz they “looked weird”, it left with my Ex and a 2nd hand replacement was impossible to find due to scarcity…
  21. The hole just in front of the filler, at the bottom, is a drain, not a vent. There are other pipes coming up to that area, including one to the vent valve, which is opened/closed as the cap is screwed in, by the button-like thing on the right side, which you can accidentally or deliberately press when filling. It is supposed to be actuated by the cap being screwed in. Hard to imagine how any -except the drain pipe - could get blocked. The vent valve could stick, I guess? Look at diagrams of the tank on parts sites such as https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/ to see representations of the pipework. Diesels won't have the carbon canister or associated pipe(s).
  22. Great! Thank you so much! 🙏
  23. Exterior color / Paint Code 8T / F3K
  24. @CatalinG, tell me the 17 character VIN, and I can tell you the colour.
  25. I will keep the thread posted after the mechanic says his word. This might be in help for other users reading the forums.
  26. True. But.... 1. The undertray won't hold 300ml plus oil. So it will Leak out via drainage holes. 2. With oil consumption issues, they can occur outside warranty as opposed to being there from purchase. As said, I would recommend pcv replace regardless. Good luck. Hopefully it won't be a piston ring or valve stem seal problem. The ea888 gen3 is complicated. Even a cam cover gasket is hours and hours work due to it being the integrated upper cam journal bearing mount as well...
  27. Yeah. The front crank seal I think. I doubt it was leaking that much. Did you see oil on the ground? How much was in the undertray. Regardless, I would suggest replacement of a genuine pcv as maintenance. They are only really reliable for about 4 years 60 or 70k kms... What kms are on car?
  28. I have only just got back to this. Regarding the three reasons above: (a) you have to remember to do it. You also have to remember to carry the Faraday bag/tin box. (b) you have to assume the system is working correctly, i.e. that the button-press on the key followed by the touch on the handle really has disabled Kessy. If you are that concerned you can just test it while you are there. Walk away, wait 10 seconds and return with the key and touch the handle. (c) you have to assume thieves have not (yet) developed a way to overcome that. ?? You are already making assumptions e.g. that the Faraday bag works, that the stationary key has switched off, being two that come to mind. The latter will be even harder to test Thieves won't go to that much trouble in order to nick a Skoda. I'm not sure Skodas are nicked 'to order' to be shipped in a container to the Middle East. Range Rovers will be way ahead of you in the queue. At least with the lock/touch method even if the thief has captured the 'signal' once the 10 seconds are up they can't use it. tom
  29. Hooray 2024, mk.4 Fabia SE L. See the accelerator pedal then the edge of the dash panel the light coloured lump, thats my plug in the OBD.
  30. Exactly Westminster elite are so greedy for money that they have sold off the crown jewels, leaving just the NHS to go. We need to do take back control then so we actually own these essential services and allow farmers to grow food again. Paying them to do nothing is not an option. The other thing you mentioned was nothing but big fat lies and a smoke screen. The whole of UK is damaged, not just England.
  31. Houses in England have been built to so poor standards and with a lack of insulation before and since the 1970,s. They still are. Decades of Billions spent on adverts and insulate home schemes, and 6 or 7 decades on there are homes not insulated from being built in the 50s 60s . These poor old people in un-insulated houses were young once, were they ignoring the adverts, grants etc, or was it just lots of these schemes were a con, job creation and wealth creation for directors. Then Westminster was busy ensuring that the Treasury and England would be sure of the wealth from the North Sea being theirs. The greed and lying and cheating is just how they roll.
  32. Your local Skoda dealer should be able to tell you from the registration number or VIN.
  33. I haven't adjusted them at that point as it was still up on jack stands. I was just checking to make sure it was working before buttoning things back up. I did the adjustment once the car was back on the ground. I hate dazzlers myself.
  34. Pretty much all VAGs suffer from this (including my own Superb) . As long as the light by the SOS button is green (if its Red then functionality not available) then personally (& pragmatically) I just ignore the error and treat it as a transient nuisance. It could be caused by temporary lack of mobile signal at ignition on or any other transient glitch in the comms protocols Some people have , it appears , spent lots of time in & out of dealers in attempts to get this fixed. IMHO any such fix is likely a placebo
  35. Hi all, Just to add to this thread. I changed the window regulator on my driver side Fabia mk3 (1.4 tdi 2015) today. I do not feel the earlier comments are overly clear. But as suggested, to remove the window, there are plastic grommets either side that are circular. There are two pieces to each grommet. You use a screw and put it into the inner piece and pull out. I would apply some silicone grease beforehand though. Once this is out, the outter grommet comes out rather easily Reinstalling is the same but the process is in reverse. For reinstalling the grommets, I'd advise gentle tapping the inner piece into the outter piece with a tool (I used a small hammer and tiny metal tubing). All of this will save you time and aggravation. I've attached pics to assist. Once you've removed the grommets, push your window up all the way by hand and gaffa tape the edges so it stays in place. As this then gives your plenty of room to remove the old regulator and install the new one. Additionally, the part number for the driver side (front) window regulator is 6v0 837 462 c. It is easier to ring any local main dealer as opposed to looking online (I know from experience). I rang dealers in England and Wales who all had the parts in stock and price matched a new regulator at £80. Considering the aftermarket parts range from £60+ as do 2nd hand parts, I consider this a bargain. Hope this helps. Martin.
  36. Maybe the EU and the UK and USA should be just making the personal transport vehicle have to be as Efficient in there manufacturing and their functioning as possible. The Euro 7 emission introduction is pushed back. It really is about the lack of attempts at the Big manufacturers building smaller and lighter vehicles and still making profits. As it is BMW are partnered with a Chinese Manufacturer for their BEV, that are for the EU and UK. Not to have them selling cheaper, just built more cheaply and making more profits.
  37. It is not a 'Warm check'. It is at the Normal Operating Temperature. (Hot) when you have the oil level correct when at Operating Temperature, You then can know where it is once cold, and before driving places. If you open the bonnet, and even put in no oil the warning goes off for 100 km. So be aware putting in only 0.5 litres might nit be whey the light is off. DO NOT OVER FILL THOUGH. 0.5 first, then maybe 0,25 next could be enough. or maybe another 0.25 top up might be needed.
  38. That I did not expect. 😊 Looks like a real gem. Enjoy! 👍
  39. The thing that surprises me there is that only 2 of the Toy Otas were beige!
  40. The OP knows how to disable it (now)from the menu I think rather the point was it didn't do it previously. My implied presumption is that a PO had disabled it before the OP purchased the car and until now he |she wasn't aware that there was such a thing. Well that's how I read the OPs post anyways
  41. I attended a speed awareness course last year and was told there was no need for it to be reported to my insurers.
  42. Hi, Here is the final mod I wanted to make on my rear dashcam: Simply stuck with a double sided 3M tape. I had expected that the hole would be right in front of the lens since it has the same diameter, base on my first try. But this was without counting with the pitch angle of the rear cam and the width of the cam feet. Not that massive, and still acceptable (at least to me).
  43. 1 point
Yes, you should be good. My old '19 Superb 2.0 TDI was leaking coolant from the water pump and I went ahead and changed the timing kit + water pump and also did the oil pump belt as it is quite easy once the timing belt is off. There were no debris in the oil sump and the oil pump belt was in good condition with no wear signs. The car had ~85k miles ( 136k kms ) . Cheers!
  44. 2016 L&K 2.0 diesel 150bhp.

I got it for free from work 😂
  46. @Boki02 Do we assume that you are in a right hand drive car and driving on the left, like in the UK. It is just that usually the posts are ' My car pulls left' as to the kerb / verge. ? How long have you had the car, has it always pulled to the right? Are you paying money to these people to check the alignment and make any adjustments required and are they actual mechanics or Tyre & Exhaust fitters. Tyres come with run out stripes. (Not a lot of people know that #Michael Caine)
  47. You are not going to get it Up Plated even if you find people advertising that they can. As to the 1.4 TSI engine, ECU etc, is that coming from some crashed vehicle? A 150 ps one?
  48. If you are prepared top pay the sort of money to swap out a 1.2 for a 1.4, I would be looking for an alternative car!!
