  1. It doesn't. Plenty grunty enough as is, and I doubt the EGR and TB have ever been cleaned out, so only going to get better. Found out why it was sold just now. Reviewing paperwork handed over to me. Audi recalled it for an airbag thing (69r7) a month or so back. That was free, but the upselling included a quote of £471 for rear discs and pads, cambelt for a shade under 1k, and cheekiest ever - 'rear washer nozzle inop. Req investigation' 1 hour labour at £216. 😁 Nozzle off (30 seconds) soak in descaler, refit. At least that was my approach.
  2. The very good indicated efficiency from the weekend lasted just until the weather got lots hotter and over 15 *oC to over 20*oC. The AC had to be on a few times. My Offpeak tariff with Eon Next started today and i have had to set for the first time a charging plan on the car to start a charge at Midnight. 35 miles covered since last charge to 100% . Showing 67% now. 61 miles range. That would be 65 without AC on.
  3. nah, they were just hangin around in Audimaindealerland. its over the bridge from BMW island.
  4. Essentially, yes. However, I run my washing machine at night on cheap rate using the delay start built in to the machine, same with my dishwasher. As most of the time my house is running off a combination of solar and house battery I'm not using mains electricity at all, or at the most a few watts, I dump out to the grid from my battery for an hour the hour before the free electric period, then recharge my house battery and car and get a nice rebate of a few quid when the electric is free, and a bonus of export electric. It's hardly any messing about, takes maybe 30 seconds to set up the inverter controller app.
  5. Yes Go into S1 and start using the paddles and it will stay in Manual
  6. So if you normally did your washing etc in the free window you have to stop that in advance and do it at another time. So when the window is announced you can do it as "extra use". If the free window remains the same period each time your "extra use" will be your norm . It's a lot of messing about for a couple of quid? Why don't the energy companies buy their own battery banks and "make hay while the sun shines and wind blows" themselves to sell it when power generation is down? probably because the capital investment would take too long to recover? So they want people with money to do it for them and attract new customers with the concept. They can probably even claim the money discounted as "promotional/advertising" costs against taxes?
  7. I have tried to keep to the OEM parts/design however if it wraps around some proper structure in the seat then I may have a look at the aftermarket route although I think the structure is more under the split line of the seats than above. I have a feeling the leather thickness on the back of the seat is keeping the OEM bracket from fitting.
  8. Once again, to coin a phrase that someone else has already used, this once again rings of the "haves" and "I'm alright Jack"
  9. Don’t tell them about the chip, just get it booked in with a list of the problems and act dumb
  10. User error, must have pressed the lock/unlock button too long
  11. Maybe drivers in Ireland hit more things (and so would make better use of 360 view!
  12. I test drove an Enyaq back in 2022. It was a great family car, very comfortable suspension and lots of space. Feels like an evolution from previous Skoda models, which may be good thing if that's what you like. The bigger battery was available back then. Cars were still suffering from component shortages in 2022, I spec'd up a big battery AWD Enyaq with all the autonomous features and it came to similar price as a MY LR, without Tesla's charging integration. In 2022, downside was that the car don't do battery pre-conditioning for rapid charging. So you may not see quoted 100 kW in extreme temperatures. This may have changed now because it can be added via software update. The bigger battery will also support V2H after software update, VAG is limiting this feature to the biggest battery versions. BTW, spot on with the free extra electricity bit. But I think it's more aimed at people who can charge their battery, and thus normally have almost zero usage at that time. People who normally do stuff at that time can do more for free.
  13. Thanks for the insight. I'll see how it goes, if it becomes a problem it will go to the dealer, at least i'll have an idea of the possible problem/solution.
  14. What do you mean I only go to an alternate charging place once or twice a year as I have my recharging place at home so it fills itself up when I am asleep, do ICE cars do this trick ? Think both EVs and ICE will do this shortly ie nip off when we are asleep to fill themselves up but then we will probably get to the stage when hardly anyone has a car and there are just pools of them which come to you when called.
  15. No we ICE drivers get paid in free time, far more valuable 😁
  16. inadvertently pressing one of the fob buttons for too long , I remember a similar incident and had to juggle ignition key to reset.
  17. He may be referring to likes of this https://octopus.energy/free-electricity/ and this https://www.britishgas.co.uk/energy/peak-save/sunday.html Also post-code dependent sessions for lucky people living near wind farm grid connections. To most people with time of use tariff, the off-peak isn't getting more expensive and we are getting more and more cheap/free events. There had been 5 Octopus free sessions so far, I received £3.80 credit for the first 4 sessions. I turned on the tap to maximum for session last Saturday, consumed over 12 kWh of electricity during the free hour (charge 2 cars 7 + 5 kW and a 95c washing machine maintenance cycle) looking forward to about £2.60 credit. Wholesale gas price has risen a little bit, I suppose that is the reason for price cap to rise. It is driven by people who cannot time-shift their electricity out of expensive peak period, which still relies upon expensive fossil fuel peaking plants, and pushes up the average. So from my limited experience, free/cheap electricity certainly seems like more abundant. Whether that is the long term truth, it's anyone's guess. I feel cheap sessions will only get more often but also more extreme price swings depend on the weather. Related Beeb article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-66775731
  18. Another possibility on a little used car is there is some condensation in the fuel system. Try filling it with E5 99ron super unleaded. It will burn hotter and help evaporate any moisture (and is few percent better mpg than E10 95ron unleaded). The 5% lower biofuel also helps as ethanol degrades over time which is helpful if low usage means only fill up every few weeks

I might meet you sometime in the future in some Audi forum Been fun, good luck!
  20. Hi guys i work in an audio shop and i’m trying to get hold of a update for this skoda fabia 2019 software : 8740 Does anyoe have it? If so how can i get hold of it becsuse this customer is a pain in the ass😂😂😂😂😂
  21. Taxation has to be effectively collected and with Excise Duty on fuel it is just the easiest to collect except for those lorro=ies that come in to the UK with their diesel tanks brim full, do hundreds of miles on UK roads and then leave the UK again without buying UK fuel whilst doing huge damage and wear to UK roads. Collecting duty on the the electrical energy that goes in to EVs is just about impossible as there are so many way that energy go be harvested and put in to the EV. I heard one detailed chat on the radio where a bloke was talking about using the in car telephone systems we have ie for the SOS function and Over the Air updates to just charge EVs per mile as there just about is no other war to capture taxation from EVs. With free electricity sessions the running cost our cheap. servicing should remain half or less the cost of ICE cars. Insurance has been cheap on the Zoe and I think will be OK on the 170 hp Scenic. Tyres I was worried about being 19 inch ones but the 205s seem to be quite cheap. I want to ditch the Michelin Primacy ones for so Pilot Sports or Toyo or the like. I can see EVs being super cheap for the foreseeable. Will look at doing the Dereg/reg trick to set the VED month to March for both of my EVs but that does not kick in to 2026 to be anywhere near being a significant cost.
  22. As it's a dry clutch the same as a manual if it's stood for a while the clutch plate can become damp. A bit of judder the first few pull aways is not unkown.
  23. Those were the first warnings I got when the battery was failing but then the warnings were only at start up.
  24. confirmed in practice -> https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/510961-2023-280ps-lk-replaced-2016-220ps-style/?do=findComment&comment=5854160
  25. Even if the UK government restore the inflation escalator for fuel excise duty whilst electricity gets cheaper and cheaper, as it is, to the point of being almost free ? I can understand this for the like of Clarkson who has made a career of being contrary but ordinary people with an amount to spend each week/ month/year etc it is becoming just economic good sense to go EV to save 8p a mile and then to have that money to spend on other things rather than ARAMCO profits ?
  26. I don't use the Vgate as a fit and forget. I use it as I would use OBDeleven or VCDS. When I need to do something in my car, I plug in, do it, and then unplug.
  27. The Vgate is described as a fit and forget. It’s a useful tool, but the obd port was not designed to have anything permanently attached, so it would be better to remove it when not in use.
  28. I have similar Rory. My Karoq was made about the same month and year, and the DSG can judder occasionally. Usually starting from rest, first gear, especially on a slight incline. Perhaps a bit worse when starting from cold and/or car unused for a few days. If it judders i sometimes put the car in sport mode briefly, this seems to stop it happening. As you say, it is an occasional problem, that I never have when the engine is warmed up. Does this sound familiar? My previous 2018 SE-L Karoq did not have this problem. This was before a GPF was fitted, perhaps this made a difference to the set-up.
  29. Seems a bit strange to me, if you have reset the system it should know its normal for that wheel to be rotating faster and only measure each wheel relative to when it was reset
  30. Did you drill that after an afternoon at the pub 😉 Happy New Car!!! This is one of the final and probably the best versions of the PD IMO, they only offered it in 115 in this model of car IIRC, probably because they had the 140 and 170 2.0 PD which were ok until they added the DPF's to them which don't work well at all. Don't worry, you will get used to the clatter of a diesel eventually!
  31. 1 point
The latest versions are to new euro 6e emissions standards, so come with a lot of additional emissions equipment (which is new, their long term reliability unknown, and potentially costly to repair). So wouldn't use reliability of a more basic diesel (with lot simpler emissions equipment) from few years ago as reliable guide. With diesel now about 4-5p per litre more in summer (and often 10-15p in winter as it is similar to heating oil) and the tsi only being about 10% less efficient in real world tests, rather makes it hard to justify £2k extra purchase list price of the diesel. Probably why only 4 Skoda models still have diesels available
  32. Beat the spinning engine cover nut by drilling and tapping an M3 thread in the stud, and sticking a screw in it to counterhold. Credit to workmate Richard for that idea.
  33. Yup this is what I like about ICE. Brimmed the tank Fri, drove from Wigan to Ardrossan Saturday. Currently pooling around on Arran and (unless my GF complains) will more than likely get back home next Sat on the same tank(she hates it whenever a fuel tank goes below half). That said I would seriously consider a PHEV when I come to replacement. EV for the short local journeys, petrol for the longer runs. Best of both worlds.
  34. I think just ask the dealer those questions directly. If you don't , you are going off what people *think* should happen on here ! For what it's worth, our Dec 2017's screen's touchyness went on the left side a couple of months ago. I have an aftermarket warranty but that looked unclear on the stereo, a repairer wanted £200 plus sending the whole unit to them. So, using the advice on here, I bought a new screen digitizer for £26 and a couple of the right screwdriver type for another £5 and fitted myself after watching a good YouTube video. The only thing I did wrong was not quite seat the SD card reader board into its slot the first time. Otherwise, easy to do.
  35. Not aimed at yourself but parole like that usually being spoken down to me in a condescending manner from someone who has never ever worked on their own vehicle makes me all the more determined to prove them wrong (if that is the case), you will no doubt have seen me triggered a few times on this forum (usually ABS sensors or brake discs) where I end up posting that I have fitted mega cheap Chinese parts without problem but boy oh boy did I bouffer mon brin when it came to coolant temperature sensors When the CTS played up on my MK1 Octavia I fitted a second hand one from a breakers yard engine, big mistake as all the factory fitted ones would fail (there was a certain colour that I should have sought) then a dirt cheap Chinese one only lasted a short while, the correct coloured VAG item from TPS did what it should do and continued to do so. I have never had a problem with a pattern part thermostat and as Pete wrote its one part where you can easily check that its working correctly before fitting and being mechanical are very robust in service, no electronics with underrated electrolytic capacitors etc to fail prematurely.
  36. FWIW this genuine one is made by Bremi, who made it in Germany according to other stamping on far end (also 'BTT'). The 1.186.87 B is what told me Bremi. I paid £33 delivered, including o-ring from an eBay seller. Does seem to work when dunked in boiling water.
  37. Sorry for the delay, I took a break from the forum. The thermostat is not an on-off device that triggers a spring, it operates gradually and linearly over a relatively wide temperature range. The thermostat is held shut (no coolant flow) by the spring, the spring is opposed by the force exerted from the wax capsule which expands with temperature. As the engine warms up the thermostat gradually opens allowing coolant flow, as the temperature continues to rise it will become fully open by the rated temperature, say 88°c, in a healthy cooling system that will only happen in extremis, towing up a hill in hot weather etc, normally the orifice will be partially open to maintain the regulated 88°c. There is actually some coolant flow when closed, there will be a metering hole with a jiggle pin to stop it becoming blocked, that way the warming coolant can reach and pass over the wax element, if this flow does not happen the engine will initially overheat before the thermostat opens through conduction of its metal body and then the temperature will fall before being maintained at the 88°c.

Mine fits directly into the wheel well. There's then a foam insert that contains the jack etc. https://www.theskodashop.co.uk/products/copy-of-spare-wheel-kit-octavia-iii-vrs
  39. Some Companies are able to control a good proportion of the new/used car market and influence resale values. Marshall dealerships are Nationwide https://www.marshall.co.uk/contact-us/?postcode=&franchiseHash=
  40. As gaz says it turns off internal sensors for alarm .
  41. @saudidiscomanIf it is a DQ381 DSG (7 speed wet clutch) then yes 80,000 miles. *7 speed dry clutch DQ200 DSG,s, no service interval.* Do you want to leave it for as long as 80,000 miles though without a oil & FILTER change? DQ500 DSG,s are 40,000 miles servicing...
  42. originally trunk bulbs are only two no matter hatch or wagon, hatch have them in trunk, while wagon in cover. additional two bulbs in hatch's cover were my idea different type of bulb body comes in glovebox -> https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/393511-what-bulbs-are-fitted-to-the-s3-upgraded-bulb-recommendations/?do=findComment&comment=5375416 door's warning light also have different type bulb bodies -> https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/393511-what-bulbs-are-fitted-to-the-s3-upgraded-bulb-recommendations/?do=findComment&comment=5168994
  43. Hi, I have a 2011 Skoda Octavia 1.6l greenline i bought new. 524,000 kms, ( approx 328,000 miles). 3 cambelts and a EGR valve are the only major work on this car.
  44. Maybe my post do not complies with forum rules and I am so sorry if I'm doing something wrong, but this situation is really serious and against the warranty law: Skoda refuses to fix it, asks for money, with truly incoherent and embarrassing excuses although there is a solution! So I decided to do an upload of the 8755 software file in hopes of doing some good. https://uploadnow.io/f/3J8v0Br The absurd thing is that many Skoda assistance centers throughout Europe are unaware of the existence of this firmware and they don't even know why. An assistance center, who learned of its existence through me, told me that in official documents 8755 results as compatible only with 695 hardware, but it is not true, as seems that some of you can confirm. The further absurdity? Swing Plus produced since mid-2020 already have the 8755 installed. You can find it by searching, in Google images, "8755 MIB2" or "8755 696", "8755 695" and so on: you will find external labels of the hardware showing the software number. Why are Skoda and VW doing all this to us? We should file a class action and seek compensation, also to avoid other similar problems in the future, but evidently it's one of those situations where solving it ourselves it's more realistic.. and costless. After having struggled for a long time in vain, after being blamed and being told that - the phone is bad or too new (later discovering that it is expressly declared compatible by Skoda) - our cable is faulty, buy another one - to buy the Volkswagen cable which costs a lot and is much worse etc. etc. , all without any written trace, other than threatening them. What a shame.
  45. It will eat up the miles, I bought my MK1 Octavia dead cheap on its 3rd birthday with 188000 miles, I said if it gives me 3 years and then dies I will still be ahead of the game. I abused it as a van for 13 years, overloaded the suspension frequently, towed massively overloaded trailers for thousands of miles, only really ever did oil and filter changes and brake pads, I could not kill the vehicle. At 16 years old and 325000 miles it was still running like a Swiss watch, it was the electronics that ended up seeing it go to the scrapyard and me not realising that by investing in VCDS I could have easily found the problem which was almost certainly broken wiring in the door loop. Your plan is a good one and I intend to repeat the experience with my Yeti, I'm already 3 years and 40K miles in, it had 79K to start with. You should budget for a DMF change if it hasn't already been done.
  46. I have exactly the same problem now - after Ill help from Škoda! I contacted Škoda Support regarding other issue using MySkoda app. After 1 MONTH of ping-pong with them, they came out with 'solution' to deregister car from app and user from infotainment and register again. Well that 'solution' now requires passing same issue you other people are facing here. So looks like this is problem on Škoda side and it is general (not single country) and it is prolonged for a month now. We all have payed for that option in pricetag of our vehicle. Plus I paid for yearly subscription. And we are not allowed to use the service. I deem this not only unprofessional (that they cannot fix some software bug for months) but also more than poor businesses practice but even criminal behavior. I contacted my lawyer and he advised me to write then a strong message demanding enablement of the service in full extended ASAP or face charges for breach of contract and also I will sue them for waste of time. I don't think they will react, but I will sue them as my lawyer is sure this is solid case. I see this kind of strong action against Škoda directly is only way around their proven bad service and low concern on customers. I point out 'Škoda directly' as this has nothing to do with dealers as service is by contract and practice sold and provided by Škoda.
