  1. Last update - the Skoda dealer gave me the correct filter, no questions asked which was good. Got home, covered the engine and alternator with rags and replaced the filter, I added a little more fresh oil into the housing. Turned the car on and problem solved, it's now as quiet as a mouse - no error codes on Carista, nothing on my dash. Many thanks again
  2. Not harsh at all. Its your car and your money. How someone can give a fixed quote without looking/checking or knowing the engine would worry me in the first place. Once got a quote to replace timing belt on a Toyota lucida people carrier. Seemed very fair price until the garage realised that it involved removing front seats and floor pan plus front Aux shaft just to get to timing cover. They had no clue the work that was involved. When I took it in they made up some excuse and said they couldn't do it after all as they thought it was the petrol version even when I had told them it was a 2.2 3cte turbo diesel. Probably just as well they didn't get the job. My local garage(retired now) used to always inspect cars before giving a price unless they had worked on the car before. Alasdair
  3. ssstwitter.com_1741701855006.mp4 From a prvious post of his this morning 11/3/2025. HUGE CAR FINANCE MISSELLING NEWS! (Pls share) The regulator @TheFCA has just put out a statement saying it will consult on "an industry-wide redress scheme." Now, ‘consult’ is mostly technical, this really means its made up its mind. I’ve bashed out at top speed an explanation. It plans a section 404 redress scheme that will require lenders to proactively contact all borrowers who met the miss-selling criteria and offer them a fixed redress based on FCA rules. Therefore, people won't need to complain, they will be paid out an amount dictated by the FCA to firms based on their situation. This likely stretches the net of who’ll be paid far wider (and means there’s no need to use claims firms). There are two main types of Car finance miss-selling being looked at…. a) Discretionary Commission Arrangement (DCA). This is about 40% of car finance deals and applies where brokers and dealers could increase the amount of interest they charged customers (without telling them) on PCP and Hire Purchase agreements up to 2021 in order to increase their commission. This hidden commission has obvious problematic. This is the one I have been talking about and suggesting people complain about. If you’re one of the 2m who has put complaints in through my site, then it is very likely it was a DCA complaint. b) Commission Disclosure complaints. These are based on the Court of Appeal surprise ruling that if car finance agreements didn't tell consumers all details of commission including the amount (they rarely did) they were unlawful. It applies to up to 99% of car finance cases (including DCA cases). The Court of Appeal ruling took everyone, including the regulator by surprise and was not something it was looking at. Even I have concerns the decision risks doing more harm than good. It has been appealed to the Supreme Court which is due to be heard on 1 to 3 April. The redress paid out will depend on the Supreme Court decision… It’s important to remember while Commission Disclosure complaints are all about the Courts, DCAs were about a breach of the FCA regulations. Yet even on that, the regulator can’t act until it has clarity from the court. Of course no one knows what the court will say, but let me try and give three rough scenarios… - Most likely outcome. Many expect the Supreme Court to overturn the Court of Appeal ruling on Commission Disclosure complaints. If that happens then the redress scheme will only be set up for DCA complaints. This is still huge and the fact the payouts will be automatic means it would reach more people and likely be in the billions to low £10s billions (depending on payout size – more on that in a moment). - Possible outcome. If the Supreme Court upholds the Court of Appeal ruling, then the FCA would set up a redress scheme for all car finance (well the 99% affected by this). This would be huge, have impacts on the economic competitiveness, and could be at PPI scales of redress, running into the £10s of billions. If so, it is not impossible we would see the government intervene with legislation. - Unlikely outcome (but not impossible). There is an outside chance the Supreme Court will rule out the Commission Disclosure complaints and make a pronouncement within that which causes the regulator to rethink on whether DCA complaints are justified. That could mean no redress at all, but I think this is pretty unlikely. How much will people be paid out? I hear work is being done at the FCA on the level of compensation for DCA claims, yet from what I understand no decision has been made yet. My pure guess is it will be … - Method 1: All the extra interest that was charged due to the DCA comes back. This would typically be around £1,400 per arrangement. - Method 2: It may set up a ‘fair interest rate’ (for those in the know, mirroring Plevin in PPI) and only refund amounts above that. This would therefore result in a lower payout than the first method. As for compensation claims if the Supreme Court rules on Commission Disclosure complaints. I’m not sure anyone has a clue yet; it depends how it formulates it. Is it worth complaining now? There’s far less a need as the regulator is signalling its strong intention that it will make lenders contact you. Though technically it is only ‘it’s intention’ so nothing is firm, but it would be very surprising if it didn’t now follow through with this unless the Supreme Court throws out a big wobbler. Putting complaints in may be helpful for firms to know who is affected. So you may still want to do it, I just wouldn’t do it via a claims firm (as we don’t know yet if you’ll still have to give a cut to the claims firm under an automatic redress scheme, it’ll likely depend on the contract you signed) just do it via free tools like the one I have on MoneySavingExpert. When will we hear? The Supreme Court will hear the case in early April, then likely take a few weeks to decide. The FCA will then aim to sort out what’s happening on its redress scheme within six weeks. So we should be hearing towards the beginning of June. I hope all this helps, this is just my first pass at it, things can change (including my view). Here’s what the FCA said… Statement on motor finance review next steps If motor finance customers have lost out from widespread failings, we are likely to consult on a redress scheme We are currently reviewing the past use of motor finance discretionary commission arrangements (DCAs). We’re seeking to understand if firms failed to comply with requirements relating to DCAs and if consumers lost out as a result. If they have, we want to make sure consumers are appropriately compensated in an orderly, consistent and efficient way. Since we launched our review, a ruling by the Court of Appeal has raised the possibility of widespread liability among motor finance firms wherever commissions were not properly disclosed to customers. The Supreme Court will hear an appeal against the Court of Appeal’s judgment on 1 to 3 April. We have been granted permission to intervene in the case and have filed our submission with the Court. We want to provide as much certainty as possible to firms, consumers and stakeholders. So, we are confirming that if, taking into account the Supreme Court’s decision, we conclude motor finance customers have lost out from widespread failings by firms, then it’s likely we will consult on an industry-wide redress scheme. We previously said it is more likely than when we started our review that we will introduce an alternative way of dealing with complaints. Under a redress scheme, firms would be responsible for determining whether customers have lost out due to the firm’s failings. If they have, firms would need to offer appropriate compensation. We would set rules firms must follow and put checks in place to make sure they do. A redress scheme would be simpler for consumers than bringing a complaint. We would expect fewer consumers to rely on a claims management company, meaning they would keep all of any compensation they receive. It would also be more orderly and efficient for firms than a complaint led approach, contributing to a well-functioning market in the future. Next steps We are no longer planning a further announcement in May. Instead, we will confirm within 6 weeks of the Supreme Court’s decision if we are proposing a redress scheme and if so, how we will take it forward. The Court of Appeal case involved complaints about discretionary and non-discretionary commission arrangements (non-DCAs). Our next steps on non-DCA complaints will also be informed by the outcome of the Supreme Court case. Depending on the Supreme Court’s decision, we may also consult separately on changes to our rules. Throughout our work, we will continue to consider how to make sure affected consumers are appropriately compensated and the motor finance market continues to work well, with effective competition, for the millions of consumers who rely on it every year.
  4. Agreed - have the garages said what is wrong, to explain why they've concluded it's new engine time? A lot can be done to repair an existing engine. Sometimes it's better the devil you know. On the bright side, CXXB is quite common and fitted to a range of VAG vehicles. I'd think going for one from a Golf (or maybe a Seat) is a good shout in order to avoid taxi's or van engines, but that's never any guarantee as to a replacement engine's overall condition. Getting one with a known background, service history, and warranty is probably the best you can aim for. Gaz
  5. If somebody quotes to replace an injector on a PD engine and they are surprised that the injector is inside the rocker cover...... FOR THE LOVE OF GOD RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS MAN
  6. Okay quick question 2 of my rear parking sensors have fallen through the bumper so do I have to remove the rear bumper to push them back into place or can I remove the rear diffuser and get to them from the underneath? Thanks
  7. Is that the Port of Tyne? Apparently they have storage for 90000 cars, so finding the right one might be tricky.. Is it true that the dealer can tax the car once it's at the UK port? It could be the difference between paying the Premium VED or not. It's a question I'll be asking our dealer on Monday when we go for our test drive. Not overly confident that we'll get an answer as we can't even find out where our car is at the moment.
  8. Hi 17" rims DO increase confort. I have currently 17" rims as winter wheels and my Skoda Superb Mk3 Estate is more comfy than it is with its 19" summer wheels. The drawback is that steering loses a bit of its sharpness in tight turns if you you want to speed up a bit the pace... But in winter conditions, it's rarely the period to speed up... ;) 18" rims may be a good compromise, if you don't want to have 2 sets of rims.
  9. Don't put different sized tyres at the same time!! U either stick to 235/40/19 tyres on all 4 corners, or u change all 4 corners to 245/40/19 tyres at the same time. Don't have 2 of each type. Insurance will b void, and ur ABS will not b happy, hence it will disable some of the assist systems, including ACC.
  10. @Graham Butcher Which Media group, publisher, journal or channel was it that 'reported' it as an EV fire?
  11. There was a reported EV car on fire in the tunnel under Heathrow Airport yesterday morning and was covered by a couple of YouTubers but I didn't post about it because I had serious doubts about the validity of the reports seeing as the fire brigade quickly extinguished it. Well as it turns out it seems my gut feeling was right and turns out the car was a diesel after all. Heathrow Airport tunnel fire: Was it really an EV? | Auto Expert John Cadogan
  12. It is unusual for me to praise US buyers but they are much more orientated to what is a cars model year. Sometimes it is good to specify some odd features so one knows one is getting the latest build. With EVs the battery packs can improve by a percent or two as energy density incrementally improves so the later factory build can have more battery storage. The car makers, like Renault, will keep calling the car 60 kWh but actually the battery is bigger when measured by draw test and using car scanner though sometimes the BMS will disguise the lower and upper buffers. The tiny Dacia Spring battery has driven 40 km past nil % state of charge. My 60 kWh Scenic did not even give a performance warning until 11 miles past zero percent battery showing. Spring's actual battery useability is from -9% and can charge to 106%. A 15% useabilty more than 100% displayed. Keep meaning to get Car Scanner to see some of the internal information. Maybe we will see hybrid batteries growing quite a bit well as those batteries cheaper so hybrids will get better. If they "save" drivers and fast parcel operator running costs they should not stay in the customs warehouse at the ports. Cheaper finance coming too with lower Base rates should also help car sales.

Update. I visit my nearest skoda workshop they have take all the Hardware data and forwarded to the skoda india team to rectify the issue, because they said they haven't seen issue like this. So they are blank & sent the data to superior team. Once they reply on this, he will call me. In india, if you get your vehicle coded by unlocking extra features which company have hidden them. They they try to afraid you, by telling that you will not get warranty on this that...if they find out they just drops the car right away. And my car is coded by myself.🫢
  14. Thanks Joe for sharing. Can you be more specific in how you installed the camera. Did you connect it behind the screen? How was connecting? Was it easy to take the screen out? Why is the glove compartment open what did you do there? How did you feed the cable from the back to the front? How did you expose the back to get to where you connected the camera? Was it plug and play? Did you have any issues after installing? Any other useful information will help. I have ordered the camera and would like help with installation. Did you have a guide? Any videos? Thanks in advance. Danny

The bodywork is crackers - I did see this at UD 2025 but I didn't think to look at the back. Love the attention to detail with the submarine lights, door handle lights, etc.
  18. Bit of a downer. This might have shown up the limitation of you code reader, or the problem or code might have not shown previously anyway. I think charge pressure actuator position has been in threads on here before. Depends what's in the TPI, no doubt you've seen lots of info on this issue, doesn't sound like it might just be the arm or pivot points to be a simple clean and lube job (and not sure you can really lubricate other than a quick spray of GT85). I have seen actuator upgrades for soup'd-up cars with I think stronger spring(?). If you've not seen this thread a poster is on to one track, which might be very common. - Tut, sorry I can't find it now but you've probably seen his posts on a VW forum about seized actuator arm (IIRC) and there being a TPI. Good luck.
  19. I drove it realistically on local a roads and also had a few moments to see how it accelerated did about 25 miles and was saying 2.8 miles/kWh
  20. New (to me) '71 plate iv Sportline Plus.
  21. Luckily my wheel option only comes with Hankook as an option on the website Are they quieter? . Had an Octavia VRS few years back came with Bridgestones and they were very loud for road noise
  22. Thanks to everyone on this thread for the tips, especially in the video about the third screw hidden behind the button. I didn't want to dismantle the mechanism too much - I knew I'd lose the spring somewhere so what I did was to clean up the moving parts, squirt of brake cleaner followed by a little WD40. I then took the spring out of a biro, shortened it a bit and added it to the spring at the front right* thus giving a bit more force and BINGO! It might not last if the biro spring stretches but at least I know what to do. Mine is a left hand drive model so could be the opposite side on a RHD.
  23. How long did it take from build week for dealer to give you a delivery date. Mine is confirmed build week 13 Test drove an Edition 85 at the weekend and was very impressed with the way it drove. And range fully charged implied more than quoted on the website 🤣 Edition was good but looking forward to my one with Maxx pack etc being delivered
  24. It has already arrived at the dealers so they're preparing it for handover.
  25. @Seasider Fair enough, but on here and elsewhere since 2009 people have complained of DQ200,s going up the gears too quickly from starting off. Being into 4th or 5th by 30 mph etc. 1st Gear in a 7 speed DSG is often just used for starting off and coming to a stop but then there are many different maps with DQ200 DSG,s that are fitted from 70 ps to 192 ps in over 50 different applications / models. If your car can be put in a higher gear in Manual and not just ignore you when it needs to protect it's self then good. Crawling along at between 5-10 mph and the DQ200 shifting up or down is why some go to S and hold 1st to a higher RPM. If you can choose 2nd and it stays in 2nd at under 10 mph then sorted. If you know your manual driving of the Semi-automatic gearbox is more fuel efficient that is great.
  26. There's still time to get yours before 1 Apr. Got the call this morning from the dealer. I'm collecting the car on Saturday. I'm quite excited!
  27. I have concluded that newer Kamiq's do not display the gear unless you are in sport mode. Similarly they do not tell you if ACT is active but you can sort of tell.
  28. Oh yes - FAT32. Thanks👍
  29. It all really depends on what has happened to the engine. That noise could be a dropped valve, a loss of an injector - or the crank has suffered failure. I agree it sounds horrendous, but as a first port of call, a scan needs to be done to the car and some proper diagnosis. I think its important to figure out what you'll budget will be. Replacement engines can be sourced, but is the cost more/less that the vehicle is worth? The death knell will be if the car has either suffered oil starvation / poor maintainace, spune a journal bearing and its ended up scoring the cylinder or a valve has failed and has scored the cylinder lining. 5E is refering the fact this is a MK3 Octavia. You get 5E5 for hatchback/limosine or 5E9 for estate/combi. You are based in Scotland (according to your profile); I suggest that you find a good VAG specialist garage to get to the bottom of the problem. My personal recommendation is Autohaus in Edinburgh who are fantastic.

  31. 19" Trinity wheels with Michelin CrossClimate 2's Price: £200 Description: If anyone has been following my diary thread, these are the original wheels that have been replaced with 17" aftermarket ones. A set of 19" Trinity alloys from a Skoda Superb 2016 that has done 110k miles, with Michelin CrossClimate 2's that are over half worn. Condition: They almost certainly are original given the state of them. If I was to attempt to sell these up, the wheels don't seem out of round, and the tyres seem ok. The two biggest issues are that one wheel has a slow air leak, needing to be pumped up again every week or two. A tyre place attempted to find a leak in the tyre but couldn't, so remounted it which worked for a few months. This probably means its due to the corrosion around the rim of the wheel. The second is one of the bolt holes has damage marks. I genuinely can't remember if this was me, as it could be, I distinctly remember being in a situation where I needed two breaker bars and fire to get one of the wheel bolts loose. All the wheels have kerbing and corrosion around the rim, with some having bubbling deeper within the wheel. There's corrosion all around the centre caps, and general mankiness rear side and behind the cap. I've tried my best to clean them up, but there's only so much I can do. Tyres are Michelin CrossClimates, at the OEM 235/40/19 size. In general, it looks like most have inner wear, which probably tells me I should get the car's geometry looked at long term. Perhaps a couple more worn in the inner side than others, but I reckon they're good for 9-12 months. So the wheels could be used as is, but that would be a bit mad, they should be refurbished, hence what I think is a low asking price. The wheels are anthracite with a diamond cut finish, so I reckon that would probably be expensive if refurbed to original finish (assuming it can, depends how deep the cutting would be). This site https://fawheels.co.uk/prices suggests diamond cut set of 19" wheels would be £480, so that would be the ball park I guess. Collection from Rugby (CV23) massively preferred. I could probably deliver them if the distance is reasonable. I'm extremely loathed to want to ship almost 100kg of wheels with tyres!
  32. A tool that you may need, and may not have, is a 9mm 12-sided socket. This is for the M7 screws that hold the clutch pressure plate to the flywheel. I can lend you one if you want to get in touch (and I can find the one I bought!).
  33. About £200. Depends where you live and what they do. Call AA motors in Hull - used for my Yeti. Also, useful info here https://www.jcr-leeds.com/haldexservicing/

  36. Would a Mk3 Fabia fob have a motion sensor in it ??? I'm assuming the car is not keyless entry ??? And that would be the only logic that the fob would have a motion sensor in it. I'm happy to be educated if i'm incorrect. If it has keyless entry, then okey dokey. @Snickthemapw You do not have to get out of the car to lock it with the fob, if you need to.
  37. Any more news on your delivery date TAP? I'm still waiting but I was confident I'd get a call from the dealer today......I didn't.
  38. Is the window glass original? If it has been replaced/smashed in the past, the metal gap in which the window sits can be uneven and allows too much acoustic vibration. Aside from taking all door trim off and evening out the window slot (lots of work without guarantee of success), a much easier thing that you could try beforehand is to put a couple 10mm wide x 1mm-2mm thick sponge neoprene rubber strips (sticky on one side) inside the outer window seal grooves. This will press the window more firmly against the other window seals when the window is fully up. If this reduces your noise a lot, it's a cheap fix. If not, the precut sponge neoprene rubber is cheap so little harm done other than 10mins lost to put in / pull out the strips. I had a similar problem on driver side (window smashed/replaced before I bought the car, I actually replaced the glass on both sides with original Skoda glass a short while later), except in my case it's above 100mph... autobahn runs. Now largely addressed for some years by the said neoprene strips, though still driver side marginally noisier than passenger side. I did replace the door trim and the window seals on the side where the window had been smashed, and noticed the window gap was quite uneven. In hindsight, I should have tightened it further and evened it out, but could not be bothered to take the door trim off again at the time.
  39. Just a quick one regarding the Haldex service, I really wouldn't focus too much whether it has or hasn't had a Haldex service. Obviously if it's never had a Haldex service in its life and it's done 100,000 miles, maybe factor in a new Haldex or at least a new pump after you buy it 😄. I would factor either doing a Haldex service yourself or book the car into somewhere that actually knows about Haldex'es which isn't as common as you'd think. I am generalising here, but a lot of places (even Skoda dealerships themselves) will class a service as draining out the oil and topping it back up with fresh stuff. While in-part they are 60% of the way to servicing the Haldex, they miss out on the crucial 40% of the job. On the pre-facelift Yeti's it will most likely have a Gen 4 Haldex I believe fitted to it. This will have a filter that needs changing and a mesh screen in front of the pump that needs cleaning. On the post-facelift Yeti's it'll have a Gen 5 Haldex which just has a mesh screen in front of the pump. If you're lucky, some places will drop the oil and fit and new filter in the Gen 4 Haldex. Very few places will know about the mesh screen in front of the pump or go to the small effort of removing the pump. There-for, junk will build up in front of the pump which leads to the pump working harder and harder until it eventually burns out. There is also a procedure that is meant to also be followed after the Haldex has been serviced which VCDS (or similar) is needed to complete the service 😀. Here's a video where I briefly talk about the Haldex and how important it is to get service at the right place 😀. Oh and yes, our 4x4 Yeti was meant to have had a Haldex service and just look at the state of the pump! 🙈 After Alana and I bought our Yeti, within 2 or so months of ownership, we drove it just over 2 hours and 110 miles North to Darkside Developments in Barnsley to make sure our Haldex service was done properly 😁. Not that my advice is worth any more than the next persons, but I'd factor in a Haldex service into your buying costs 😀
  40. As mentioned above, yes older pre facelift models did show gears, facelift models don’t. Facelift model doesn’t coast when lifting off throttle, well at least my 1.5 tsi DSG doesn’t . Also doesn’t show when in 2 cylinder mode either.
  41. First thing I noticed when I downsized from a Kodiaq to my 24 1.5 tsi Kamiq Monte Carlo was the lack of gear numbers when in D. Must say after the first few days you don’t even realise it’s missing, the gearbox is clever enough to be in the right gear, so do I need to know what gear it’s selected, it appears not. Even when in sport mode and the gear numbers are displayed, can’t say I’m looking to see what gear it’s in, I just let it get on with what it appears to do impeccably.
  42. The change is one Skoda / VW brought in. No point others saying what their older cars pre Updates do. It is a shame you only get D with in Drive, Automatic shifts, but really does it mater, 'Scream if you want to go faster, kick down or accelerate, and the car changes gear. Use S or Manual if you want to know what gear you are in.
  43. I think they've given me the wrong filter. I've just been to my car to check and the one on there is part number 04E 115 561 AC. From the pictures at the bottom it's "flat" with a thin rubber seal on the outside. However I've just been looking at other filters and I think I should have been given 03C 115 561. This one has the two rubber rings protruding outside of the housing. I was given this by a Skoda dealer and didn't notice myself when putting it on. Will give them a ring now and see what they say. I'm assuming I need to re-drain all the oil out to replace it? There's no shortcut? Any long-term damage being done in the meantime, I'm hoping I can get home and sort it in the morning before work. Oil changes are easy but getting the undertray out is the hardest part, especially trying to get to the very back two screws which are nearly in the middle of the vehicle)! I don't have an oil extractor either - I would use it in this circumstance but prefer to do the traditional way to get rid of gunk.
  44. Thanks everyone for your input. An update. Took the car to the dealers Thurs 6th and went for a long road test with their technician, 20 plus miles in order to get it on a dual carriageway with long sections with no roundabouts, lights etc. The technician experienced the fault for himself saying that he could feel the restriction in the steering as if it was sticking. Left the car with them and later in the day they phoned to say they had found a fault and and Skoda apparently had a fix for it. They were waiting for Skoda Technical to respond to them. Left the car with them overnight as I had nobody to give me a lift availiable and the dealership is awkward to get to on public transport. Skoda still had not responded by Friday lunchtime so went and got my car back. I'm assuming it's a software fix and hopefully we will get it sorted early next week. My dealer, I think is the largest Skoda dealership in the North East and is a family run businesses with an excellent reputation so I believe they are trying their best to sort this. Thanks.
  45. On mine is here between Time & Date and service.
  46. Go to 'vehicle' 'settings' 'units' and then you have a drop down menu. I do this often, even on the go, I like to measure in km/l, but all my friends here reason in l/100km, and of course when I have to disclose to you my exploits in fuel consumption, I switch to MPG UK ... 🤪
  47. Maybe it doesn't matter what color it is, if your sensor has something like this sieve on top. I think the cause of the error is that there is sediment from the oil that closes the oil flow and the sensor and reports an error to the computer. I replaced that sensor, it was located in the front, it is easy to change. first I removed the propeller from the cooler to have easier access with the tool.
  48. Thanks for the help gents i’ve changed the brown pressure switch earlier and seem to have sorted the issue as far as i can tell under the conditions i was experiencing it. Hopefully its sorted..
