  1. Whilst fixing an ABS wheel speed sensor a week or so ago, I noticed that Carista reported an issue with the glow plugs on cylinders #2 and #4. I hadn’t had any problems with starting, but then it is summer and I’d fitted a new battery last year, but I decided that for the small cost (£37.70 delivered) I’d fit new glow plugs. This was a fiddly rather than difficult job. First one needs to remove four T30 screws that hold down the fuel pipes that run over the glow plug wiring, then open the plastic conduit that carries that wiring with a flat blade screwdriver to get sufficient play in order to pull up the plug caps. I used a pair of long nosed pliers to gently pull up the plug caps as the wires look quite delicate. With the wiring lifted up there is just enough room to remove the plug caps - #4 is particularly fiddly. I vacuumed the cavities before undoing the glow plugs, then used a long 10mm socket to remove each in turn. Some of the threads were a bit squeaky, but a bit of WD40 spray helped. The new plugs were easy enough to re-fit and torque up to 18 Nm. Of the old glow plugs, the impedances of #2 and #4 were clearly out of tolerance; #1 and #3 were fine, but I changed them anyway. Carista reset the fault and everything is fine. Hopefully I won’t have to do that job again for another 95,000 miles.
  2. A week or so ago I was driving locally when I got a Christmas Tree of error lights flash up on the dashboard. Started with ABS, then stability control, then parking system, cruise control sensor, tyre pressure, blah blah.... Cleared them all with the OBDeleven I bought a year or so again (recommended on here). Drove down the road and the lightshow repeated... Quick search on here, found a thread describing similar symptoms, ordered a new ABS sensor off eBay for £18, half an hour to get the wheel off and fit it, clear the errors again, check it worked - and all sorted! What a great and useful site this is!!
  3. Well, I decided to do the old Throttle Body clean today and oh my word the amount of crud and soot deposits in there was ridiculous. After looking a quite a few vids on how to do do it and may I say making it look like child's play, I decided to give it a bash, after all, how hard could it be.....right? Wrong!! Unless you have arms like Stretch Armstrong (reference for anyone over 40) and hands like a schoolgirl, this is anything but easy. Fiddly is an understatement and the lack of room is quite something. Anyway, rant over about the supposed difficulty level (or my lack of skills) take a look at just how manky it actually was.

Evening folks, come here to see if you can help getting my Bugrat back on the road, built from a 1989 136 I think, I'll post in the appropriate section This is what it looked like 17 years ago when I last owned it.
  5. Upgrade from 03xx to 04xx is not possible the regular way, patch must be installed, search for MIB STD2 Toolbox
  6. Welcome to the forum. If your question is 'Is this Normal' ? no, it's not - most likely you have an issue with the thermostatic sliding sleeve on the coolant pump.
  7. If the 12V battery has a short circuit, it will be empty in a short time... How do you test the battery? With a load test? Everything else is worthless.
  8. If it opened normally, does the car still close/lock from remote? That would be a sign that 12V is still alive. With the steering on the proper side of the car ( I see you're in Finland) I suppose you can open the engine bay. Try to connect an external 12V there; there's a "+" connection point in the fuse box (no need to go directly to the 12V battery.
  9. The last map version for Columbus RNS510 family was V17 so I beleive what they offer is scam... When you click the link it changes a lot:
  10. Hello, I have this problem on mine. RS from 01/2021, H44 screen. I dont want to spend 1500 euros for a new one. The H47 are also bull**** and the H49 are to rare. So i opened my screen and disconnected this ****ing scroll bar. The ON/OFF is not needed (if i need to put it off, i remove the fuse) and i can up/down the volume on my steering wheel. No more problem !
  11. Now sorted. Prompted by Phonostar, I was hunting around the menu for a rescan. Couldn't find one but did go into the previously empty Manage Logo tab & there it was. So just selected it & all is well. I was expecting it to update automatically. So anyone with a new Karoq with Columbus, the correct download is this one & then you have to select the logo manually.
  12. Step one has to be to check all 4 tyres and reset the tyre pressures. If the warning are still there at the moment then make a little video if you can. That way if it happens again you have something to show the dealer.
  13. Hi I did have a quick search and a look around but couldn’t find the answer To post something for sale, do you need to me a specific criteria, or do you need to pay for a membership! Thanks

Lovely. I know of only one other Bugrat but I don't think the owner is still on here. I can get you in touch with him if you struggle to get help on here @Bugrat
  15. i would find a battery supplier that actually knows what they’re doing and get your battery tested and if a new battery is required , fitted and coded as is required.
  16. +1 for opening the bonnet now, although that said you should still be able to get in manually. AFAIK even if the key is completely dead, the car should show some sign of life. I was meaning 12V battery not as necessarily the battery itself, but that system. That is the only failure that would cause the car to die entirely, with nothing working. To stick it into neutral manually you'll need to lift up the DSG shifter facia and find the little yellow level. Then you have to release the EPB - I've no idea how to do that. It could well be the key, but if it was dead then I doubt it would unlock itself and then die a second later. It also doesn't explain the dead car.
  17. Could be the key, especially if cannot lock car again. The key battery level might be enough to illuminate a red LED but not enough to transmit that correct key is in vehicle. Try replacing key battery with best battery you can buy (not one of those weak pound shop type batteries). If coming back tomorrow try second key, and if safe place, consider unlatching the bonnet as it will be pig to open if can't get into car to release it.
  18. @pab567 Question for you i am trying to update my fw to a newer one because the one i have atm is buggy as hell (i have MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0367T). I would like to update it to MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0478T but i need to find a service pack version to update my software so it lets me update to P0478T do you maybe have any ideas where to find it or do i just need to drive it to a skoda shop so they do it? (im new to this sory for any dumb questions) if you pm me i can send a pic of what it says when i try to update it to P0478T. Thanks and sory to bother you. Have a nice day all!
  19. Alternator can produce anywhere from 12ish to 14,8V (personal experience). But AGM is considered to be completely charged at 12,8V
  20. Appreciate the kind words Gav, and yes nice spec Fabias are creeping up in price. With mine I’m confident it’s pretty unique in the market place, especially with the finish all over, so I’m looking for circa £10k for it.
  21. No, I'm laying out history. Funding for research happens on both sides, no doubt about it, that's how academia works. But funding by "interested bodies" specifically for "foregone conclusion" only happens by fossil fuel industry simply because that is the only way to get the conclusion. Funding for scientific research will always have a goal, but the conclusion is usually not foregone. Again, let me point you to my previous post. Where papers arguing for climate change are usually written by large number of authors and peer reviewed, published in well regarded journals. Paper against climate change are typically written by the single person getting paid off. Then published in poorly peer reviewed journals. If you are arguing otherwise, you should be the one providing sources. As for Al Gore's organisation. You must be talking about this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Investment_Management I've gone through a number of search results and I've not seen any record of shady practices by this organisation. Have you? I sense there is a misunderstanding between providing funding to research and having editorial control over said report/paper's conclusion. Unless you can prove the latter, as I have by fossil fuel industry, just saying "significant funding (mostly from high worth individuals)" doesn't mean much. Oh and Graham, no one is taking what the authorities tells us being 100%. They are influenced by lobby groups, for cars it's the incumbent manufacturers.
  22. The Skoda service is useful. They may be able to tell you it's fine to drive 5 miles to a motorway services (next junction, home etc) depending on the problem you have.
  23. thanks for that, do you have link for them?
  24. That is part of the problem, so many people have already formed closed minds and as such anyone who has a different opinion must be on the losers side of the debate, because we are not following the current authority lead narrative. I've always stated that I have an open mind, and I don't just take what the authorities tell us as being 100% factual, as many of us have already witnessed some massive climb downs and reversals. When I was going to college learning my craft, I was inspired by a number of the professors there who used to say "as you gradually learn something, that's when you also realise just how little you do know" and also "Never accept that something your told by authoritative figures as being 100% factual, because if that were true then there is no room for new discoveries". I was taught that if you do X and the result is Y, that is just the start for the inquisitive, and is a point where most people will stop at, but the inquisitive will ask, why does that result happen, what if I did Z, what is the outcome then and why is that different, this how great discoveries are made, but also not all discoveries are great, is the Nuclear bomb a great discovery, when it has the potential to wipe out life on earth?? We should all have inquisitive minds and question things, not just accept what we are told.
  25. Go here, use ctrl-f to find the various pages for 'assembly carrier', then pick the right diagram depending on your engine code. The bolts may be the same for all, dunno. Car Parts Catalog - LLLParts
  26. Thanks @Warrior193 It was several hours after the car was shut off and appears to match the problem above with the faulty relay, fingers crossed. It is the 190bhp 2.0 tdi
  27. Peer review relies on the peers being independent, but since the majority of the peers are themselves receiving funding from "interested bodies" they cannot be seen to be independent. So the peer review process has, by pressure from the same lobbying bodies, become untrustworthy. My Professor at university was deeply concerned about this starting to happen back in the late 1970's so this is not a new problem, and one which there is no desire to tackle because of this "funding dependent on the correct conclusions" effect.
  28. Our 05 Fabia doesn't, but you may regard that as something silly. This thread revealed a much more recent Skoda example: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/529835-missing-anti-theft-fuses/

Very slightly stretched tyres reduce sidewall/carcass flex (shoulder roll) and can marginally improve handling in that respect. Many prefer an increased contact patch, however, and in most cases a stretched tyre is for... idiots.
  30. Off to France for 12 days tomorrow morning so this week I’ve given it a full service with plugs, oil and air filters and fresh Castrol. Today and yesterday I’ve cleaned out and hoovered the interior including leather cleaner and full exterior wash finished with ceramic polish. Looking good but I’m sure it won’t when we return home.
  31. @nta16 these air hoses spring bands are more weapons than clips!
  32. Yes I've ordered today with the £1,500 grant and £1,000 summer splash offer too just got the wait now.
  33. Thanks. No not the age of the car as it is the Skoda Web page which was proving faulty. Skoda sent me link, which didn't work and gave me a message that the site could not be found. Tried it on phone, two computers and a totally separate person just in case it was our router/WiFi but with no luck. Reported back to Skoda who "for my convenience" submitted "the link" again. Surprise surprise, it worked. Clearly demonstrating there was a fault despite their claims. Rgds Grahame
  34. I'd agree, buy a new set and replace them one at a time, I still have that job to do on my own car VAG Indie had dropped the subframe when replacing the engine mountings, and did not replace any of these subframe bolts! I quickly bought a new set, but not done that yet, I must try harder!
  35. For clarity, my comment had nothing to do with climate change and everything to do with you repeating something that is getting tiresome.
  36. I got the 1985 s/w update over the air a couple weeks ago. When I started the car it told me an update was available and gave me the Update/Cancel options, so I selected Update. Then next time I started the car it told me the update was ready to install, Update/Cancel. Update again. I haven't noticed any major changes though. But I don't get map updates OTA. Only way to get my maps DB version to update is if I wait for the 29GB zip version to be updated on the Skoda Updates portal and download it to a USB and put that in the car. Works like a charm, after about 20mins of driving I parked up in a supermarket, and when I got back and started the car I checked system info and the map DB version is now 25.6 (was 24.6). I don't see any s/w updates on the portal though. Only maps and DAB station logos (which I've never got to work - I follow the instructions to put the USB in, on a station with no logo there should be an option to Add Logo, but then it doesn't show any logos to add.)
  37. Remember there have been many examples in history where scientists have been accused (wrongly) of being the Luddites. Credibility in scientific reports comes from independence, and there have been so many cases where scientists have failed to get funding for research projects offering an unbiased study into climate change consequences and causes. Why is there such a problem with getting funding for independent reports without a foregone conclusion? Because there is virtually no independent funding available, it all comes from companies, quangos, lobby groups, etc. with a defined agenda who don't want questions raised about the validity of their public statements. That doesn't make me a climate denier or a Luddite, just someone with a scientific background of nearly 3/4 of a century who has read so many reports that have proven to be inaccurate because they started out with a foregone conclusion, that in the fullness of time turned out to be inaccurate or in extreme cases just plain wrong.
  38. Final Update: I didn't do anything further to the car and I noticed last Sat morn (and since then), after about driving 90km over 4 days, that problem vibration has gone. I am guessing that with the new sensor it took the ecu a while to re-program itself. Car still has it's old vibrations/rattles/squeaks, car has 200K km on it, so as long as they don't get worse I am happy. Thanks to all who helped.
  39. RA6162 is an increased ride height rear spring because it's sold to replace 1K0511115CS and is sometimes used on the Octavia MK2 4x4 Scout. The HD (Heavy Duty) rear spring that KYB lists in their catalogue is much stiffer than 1K0511115BG because the HD rear spring that KYB lists has a wire diameter of around 12.5mm whereas the 1K0511115BG has a wire diameter of around 11.75mm. The Octavia MK2 catalogue lists ten different rear springs for the front wheel drive standard ride height car, in increasing levels of stiffness as you go from 1 to 10 in the list. The HD KYB is around 8 or 9 in the list due to its 12.50mm wire diameter, although KYB don't give the OEM part number that it's sold to replace. Other options to 1K0511115BG include number 6 and 7 in the list. These would give a stiffness somewhere in the middle of the number 5 and number 8 in the list. 1K0511115BG (number 5/10 in the list) (One aftermarket brand lists this rear spring as having an 11.75mm wire diameter) https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/1k0511115bg?supplier%5B%5D=253&supplier%5B%5D=246&supplier%5B%5D=32 1K0511115BH (number 6/10 in the list) (One aftermarket brand lists this rear spring as having a 12.00mm wire diameter) https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/1k0511115bh?supplier%5B%5D=253&supplier%5B%5D=32&supplier%5B%5D=246 1K0511115DE (number 7/10) in the list) (One aftermarket brand lists this rear spring as having a 12.25mm wire diameter) https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/1k0511115de?supplier%5B%5D=253&supplier%5B%5D=32&supplier%5B%5D=246
  40. Hi @RogueFabia , To post for sale adverts etc in the market place, yes you need to pay for Freedom or Freedom lite membership, through the site shop. (Click on the words in my post and it will shortcut by hyperlink to the right place)
  41. On any TDi check check coolant expansion colour (should be bright pink). Look for any signs of any debris in the tank. VW used a bag of silica beads in the expansion tank to "prolong" coolant life. The bags split and blocks the heater matrix. It's well documented on here. You get cold air on the drivers side and warm on passenger side. Expansion tank has the word MIT SILIKAT on the outside. It can be replaced with one without the silica bag. My blocked heater matrix for this issue cost me £600 to replace and flush the whole coolant system out twice. Mostly labour. DSG is very good to drive. servicing every 40k miles is circa £2-300. Oil and filter change.

Not helpful, I know, but I love to tell this story: we locked ourselves out of a VW Golf on the Isle of Skye many years ago. We were just around the corner from the local police station and the twenty-something constable came to have a look. In under a minute, he had us in the car. "I wasn't always a policeman," he said.
  43. It does seem strange. Previously our XC40 was the same so we sort of got used to it. On the theme of getting used to it, when we took the Elroq in the get the towbar fitted, they gave us a Seat Arona. It had a noisy, smelly engine thing in the front and an old fashioned DSG lever between the seats. It was a long journey home as most cars we couldn't catch and the one we did catch we daren't overtake as we didn't have 3 miles of clear road in front. To add insult to injury, we had to put petrol in it before taking it back. I guess the point I'm making is that some things are easier to get used to than others🤣🤣
  44. I pick up our 85 Edition on Wednesday 🤞it’s felt like a very long three months…
  45. We've had our Elroq since 28th March (great timing to avoid the expensive car RFL supplement) We've done about 4000 miles around the South West of Scotland and I think we've seen three, although I think one we've seen twice as it's local. The local one is Race Blue and the other one we saw was Timiano Green. I fancied Timiano when we ordered ours but daren't risk it as I hadn't seen it, so went for Velvet Red instead. Timiano's quite nice when you see it in the flesh. Our's went in to the dealers this week to have the towbar fitted. Not sure why I didn't order it with the car. Must have been a senior moment. The towbar is exactly the same as the factory fitted option, except that its about £400 more expensive. The good news is that, after 4000 miles, I still can't find anything bad about it.
  46. +1 for the USB phone charger option. It can be used in the front or the back - and if you or your passengers have USB-A ,USB-C or other versions, they can be interchanged rather than commiting to a particular version.
  47. Yes, agreed. I've an Anker one off Amazon that works fine.
  48. Sure looks a far easier option.
